Your blueprint to a successful relationship with your alumni mentor!

Dear mentees, Welcome to the GSP Alumni Mentor Program!

We are so glad you have chosen to be part of this program. Your mentor has been selected just for you! Here are a few tips to help you make the MOST of your mentor experience:

Be responsive. Once you've been introduced to your mentor via email, make sure you reply to the message within a day or two! You and your mentor will then make plans for your first meeting. The key to a meaningful relationship with your mentor is consistent communication!

Be curious. Ask them everything and anything! What's their favorite Georgetown memory? Ask about their career path and tell them about your dreams and aspirations! There are no bad questions! Alumni mentors love talking about their Georgetown memories and giving advice based on their experiences. It will definitely help to break the ice!

Be authentic. Each and every alumni mentor already cares about you; all you have to do is be yourself. Our alumni mentors' goals are not only to help you become who you want to be in the future but also to care for the person you are now. Be authentic, be real, just be YOU!

to share, they're here to help you through it!

Be open-minded. It may feel awkward at first with your alumni mentor, especially because they're someone you haven't met before. Take a chance with your alumni mentor and share yourself in your entirety (as much as you're comfortable!)

In the words of a current mentor, "I see myself as a resource for my mentee as they make their way through Georgetown and think about their lives beyond campus; helping them think through graduate school/the job search; and serving as a sounding board, someone to talk to when stressed."

Make the most of it. You will only get out of this relationship as much as you put into it!

In the words of a recent grad, "The alumni mentorship program has been one of the greatest assets to my professional development. My mentor went out of her way to connect me with professionals in my field of interest, which opened the door to one of my summer internships. My mentor checked in on me both professionally and personally. I can turn to her for career and academic advice as well as during times of my life when I feel drained and overwhelmed. She is someone I greatly respect and admire, and it is a relationship I am thankful to have at this stage in my life -- one I know will continue and develop beyond my time at Georgetown." - Sabrina Pérez, C'24.

Congratulations on making this decision to invest in a mentor relationship! We will be in touch throughout the year and ask that you keep in touch with us.

We are here to support you, so please reach out!
