Charlotte Abella

Vice President of Marketing If You CareÂŽ/ Source Atlantique, Inc.

C

harlotte Abella has been Vice President of Marketing for Source Atlantique Inc., one of the largest specialty food importers in the country, since 2015. At Source Atlantique, Abella works with specialty food brands in developing and implementing shopper marketing and consumer digital and social media programs. In addition, Abella has overall responsibility for the brand If You Care, a complete line of environment-friendly kitchen and household products carefully and deliberately crafted to have the least environmental impact and the lightest carbon footprint possible, while at the same time, delivering to the consumer, the highest quality and most effective results. Abella started with the brand in 2004 when she first worked at Source Atlantique, with just a handful of items and now, If You Care is the leader in pushing the limits of environmental and social responsibility in its categories, featuring over 40 products. She oversees brand management, new product development, supplier relations, and export sales.

Prior to her current position at Source Atlantique, Abella held a variety of marketing and communications roles outside the food industry. Her most recent work was with the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to business development for small to medium sized companies in New York City. Abella was born and raised in the Philippines but was exposed to different cultures at a young age. She lived in Singapore with her parents when she was a child and has traveled extensively on a global basis. She is most passionate about food, traveling, yoga, and the If You Care brand.


Nikki Sumpter

SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer Atlantic Health System Prior to joining Atlantic Health, Sumpter served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Learning at JPS Health Network in Fort Worth, Texas. While with the organization, Sumpter was named a Most Powerful Businesswoman by the National Diversity Council and Texas Diversity Magazine, and JPS was recognized by the Dallas Morning News as a Top 100 employer.

A

forward-thinking leader celebrated for inspiring positive change and engagement across large health care systems, Nikki Sumpter is Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of Atlantic Health System. Under Sumpter’s purposeful leadership, the integrated care delivery system, which boasts 16,000 team members and 400+ sites of care, was honored for the 11th consecutive year as one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For. Most recently, Sumpter was honored with the 2018 Great Place to Work for All Leadership Award, designed to recognize the integral strategic and cultural influence of talented women leaders from Fortune 100-recognized organizations.

Sumpter began her career at Carolinas Healthcare System, now operating as Atrium Health. During her tenure, she was awarded with multiple promotions in recognition of her talent for fostering positive workforce relations, and emerged as a key strategic leader on the HR leadership team. Sumpter holds a Masters in Human Resources Development from Villanova University and a Bachelors in Business Administration Management from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Morris-SussexWarren Workforce Development Board and Cornerstone Family Programs.

Women’s Initiative Network

T

he mission of the BD Women’s Initiative Network is to create an inclusive and supportive environment that facilitates the retention and advancement of women across the organization. WIN Franklin Lakes strives to expand, enrich, and enable the opportunities, experiences, and goals of women at BD in Franklin Lakes. BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world and is advancing the world of health by improving medical discovery, diagnostics, and the delivery of care. The company develops innovative technology, services, and solutions that help advance both clinical therapy for patients and clinical process for health-care providers. BD and its 65,000 employees have a passion and commitment to help improve patient outcomes, improve the safety and efficiency of clinicians’ care delivery process, enable laboratory scientists to accurately detect disease, and advance researchers’ capabilities to develop the next generation of diagnostics and therapeutics. BD has a presence in virtually every country and partners with organizations around the world to address some of the most challenging global health issues. Monica Council-Miles Manager, Social Investing BD

Prior to joining BD, Council-Miles worked within the entertainment industry at Motown Records, WNYW Channel 5, and at VIACOM, where she supported creative marketing strategies for Nickelodeon and Spike TV brands.

M

onica Council-Miles is a member of the BD Social Investing team, where she oversees corporate giving and grant programs, employee giving, state and local volunteerism, and special volunteerism events. She also develops relationships between BD and nonprofit organizations that operate locally in New Jersey and on a global scale. Council-Miles supports BD’s associate resource groups, which drive the inclusion and diversity goals at BD, in planning team-based volunteer opportunities that drive associate and community engagement.

Council-Miles is a 2017 fellow of the Bergen LEADS Civic Leadership Program, and is a Management Associate with the Information Technology Senior Management Forum. She served as school district parent liaison for the Pennsylvania State Education Department’s Dyslexia Pilot Program and is a member of National Black MBA Association. Council-Miles earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and media from William Paterson University. She currently lives with her husband and daughter in Milford, PA.

In 2017, Council-Miles launched BD’s first multi-site employee engagement volunteer event: The BD Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Implemented in collaboration with Rise Against Hunger, a global NGO, this initiative each year brings together hundreds of BD associates at more than a dozen locations across the United States, to pack shelf-stable meals to feed people in vulnerable communities across the globe.

Luba DeGroat

IP Operations Manager BD

L

uba DeGroat is an IP Operations Manager at BD, a medical device and instrumentation technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. In her role, DeGroat is responsible for driving operational efficiency, optimizing IP services and managing IP-related projects. Her experience includes process improvement, lean Six Sigma, data integrations, and project management. DeGroat has been an associate with BD’s Law Group since 2014. Committed to diversity and inclusion, DeGroat co-chairs BD’s Franklin Lakes chapter of Women’s Initiative Network – External Outreach, where she, together with her colleague Jennifer Singelyn Dietrich, build meaningful partnerships with external organizations whose mission aligns with BD.

Prior to joining BD in 2014, DeGroat worked as an Operations Specialist for the New Jersey State Judiciary in Passaic County, where she oversaw daily operations of the Law Library/Self-Help Center. DeGroat holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Hunter College, CUNY. She lives in New Jersey with her husband and two children, where they enjoy spending time with family and friends. She is also a Girl Scout co-leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout Brownie Troop.


Jennifer Singelyn Dietrich Senior Program Manager BD

As co-chairs of the WIN Outreach committee, Singelyn Dietrich and Luba DeGroat have partnered with the Girl Scouts to put on “BD Girl Scout Day” at the BD campus – introducing girls to the life-changing work being done at BD and encouraging the girls to pursue their dreams.

J

ennifer Singelyn Dietrich is a Senior Program Manager at BD, where she is responsible for leading cross-functional project teams to develop new products. She began her career at BD in 2010 as a Senior Engineer in the Technology Leadership Development Program (TLDP), and has had the opportunity to work on a variety of products within the medical and diagnostic segments.

Prior to BD, Singelyn Dietrich completed her PhD at the University of California, San Diego. Her undergraduate degree is a double major in Materials Science & Biomedical Engineering, with a minor in Industrial Design from Carnegie Mellon University. Outside of work, Singelyn Dietrich and her husband live in New Jersey with their newborn. They enjoy travelling and exploring the outdoors. Singelyn Dietrich is originally from New Jersey and spent her childhood days focused on her studies, while being actively involved in sports and in Girl Scouts. She earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, which taught her many of the skills required in her Program Management role.

In addition to her role of Program Manager, Singelyn Dietrich has held a variety of leadership roles within BD as part of the Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) and TLDP. She is passionate about helping others through the products she develops and through outreach activities, focused on inspiring others to pursue STEM-related careers.

Megan Lunde

Customer Success Manager Amperity

Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise

M

egan Lunde is a Customer Success Manager at Amperity. In this role, she works with retail clients to help them harness the power of their customer data to build outstanding customer experiences. Before joining Amperity in 2019, Lunde worked at American Express on the team that launched Plenti, the first coalition loyalty program in the U.S., and as a marketing consultant for the Global Merchant Service business. Her contributions at American Express were recognized with the President’s Club Achievement Award in 2016.

In subsequent years, she attended Jockey Hollow Day Camp’s Day & Away program, which led her to Camp Hoover, a resident Camp near Newton, NJ. Lunde spent six years at Hoover as a camper, and worked as a counselor, lifeguard, and unit leader.

Lunde is a lifelong supporter of the Girl Scout movement and an outdoor enthusiast. She first joined as a Girl Scout Daisy in Troop 1221 in Mendham.

Lunde holds an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Stanford University. She lives in Madison with her pup, Bella.

Lunde credits Girl Scouts for sparking her enthusiasm for outdoor recreation. In the summer of 2019, she led a group of friends in a challenge to hike the length of the Appalachian Trail in New Jersey (75 miles!).

The Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award was founded in 2014 to pay tribute to the former Girl Scouts of the USA National President (1996-1999) and former Girl Scout Council of Bergen County Board Chair (1974-1980). Celebrated for her outstanding leadership of Girl Scouts, Ellie is dedicated to the mission so all girls may reach their full potential. Through this award, we honor Ellie Ferdon’s vision by highlighting an exceptional young woman with a very promising career ahead of her.


Jean Myers

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey Volunteer and Leader

Mitzi Goldbek Spirit of Girl Scouting Award

J

ean Myers is a Girl Scout Alumna and Lifetime Member, a Gold Award Girl Scout, and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She has served as a Girl Scout Volunteer for the past 14 years as the leader for each of her two daughters’ troops. As a Girl Scout, Myers loved camping and participated in two Wider Opportunities (now Destinations) travel activities with Girl Scouts of the USA, during which she visited the Girl Scout National Center West and took a two-week backpacking trip to Wyoming. She was among the first Girl Scout Gold Award recipients of her council, and served as one of their National Council Delegates.

Now a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Myers strives to inspire and foster in girls a love of the outdoors, adventure, and camping. In addition, she guides her Girl Scouts through their Take Action projects, and one of her proudest moments has been helping her youngest daughter’s troop earn their Girl Scout Bronze Awards. Myers holds an undergraduate science degree from Mount Holyoke College and two graduate degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has been teaching for more than 20 years and is currently a science teacher at a private school. She resides in Teaneck with her husband, son, and two daughters.

The Mitzi Golbek Spirit of Girl Scouting Award was founded in 2007 to memorialize the former Girl Scouts: Lenni-Lenape Council executive director, who led the council from 1989-2002. Celebrated for her innovation in programming and council growth, Mitzi was an advocate of good food shared with friends and family. Through this award, we honor Mitzi Golbek’s vision and her 39 years as a Girl Scout.
