New Degree Programs - Issue 2
As we begin to develop a vision and roadmap for COSM, the discussions for potential new degree plans are moving quickly. It is imperative that COSM begin to offer new programs that help us attract students that are currently not considering Georgia Southern. We have the core programs in science and mathematics that are needed for a firm foundation for our growth and future. With the new environmental sciences and sustainability programs, the efforts have begun to add some of the available interdisciplinary programs that both meet work force and economic needs as well as being attractive to students. We must continue to develop collaborative and interdisciplinary programs that follow the model of Environmental Science. We have proposed three new degree programs for inclusion on Georgia Southern’s degree program forecast report to the USG. Should these programs be selected, they will be on track for a fall 2025 start date (and yes, it takes two years to create a new degree program!). The proposed programs are:
B.S. & M.S. in Biomedical Sciences
M.S. in Data Science
Ph.D. in Advanced Materials
