Updates From The Dean - Issue 2

The College has been approved for six faculty searches this year with a Fall 2024 start date. Four positions have already been allocated and the search processes are getting underway. We were given approval for the two additional positions just this week, and we’re working through the process with the department chairs to determine how to best use these two additional positions in the most strategic manner. There are potentially a few additional faculty searches that could get underway based on some expected retirements.

Here are the details for the initial four faculty searches getting underway:

  1. Advanced Materials: As part of the initial steps towards creating a PhD program in advanced materials, a faculty line was allocated to search for an assistant or associate professor. This is an open search that could be in biology, biochemistry, or chemistry depending on the best candidate in the pool.

  2. Biomedical Sciences: As part of the initial steps towards creating BS and MS programs in biomedical sciences, a faculty line was allocated to search for an assistant or associate professor. This is an open search that could be in biology or biochemistry depending on the best candidate in the pool.

  3. Environmental Chemistry: An assistant professor placed in the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics that supports the PhD program in Environmental Sciences.

  4. Molecular Biology: An assistant professor in the Department of Biology that must participate in the biomedical sciences program as well as other areas of the biology department.

For all four positions, I am less worried about their teaching coverage than I am ensuring they help us grow and expand our research as well as prepare the College for new degree programs.
