Updates From The Dean- Issue 3

COSM Faculty Research Council and the COSM Office of Undergraduate Research Committee
We received 17 nominations for the new COSM Faculty Research Council. The leadership has been reviewing the nominations, and I expect to announce the full membership soon. As a reminder, the goal of the Council is to advise the dean and leadership on issues related to our growing research enterprise as well as assist with the development of programs and initiatives that support COSM’s role in the Georgia Southern Soaring to Research Excellence efforts that are underway.
Undergraduate research is an integral part of our growth and enhancement plans for COSM research efforts. We have also initiated conversations with the COSM Office of Undergraduate Research Committee to expand the scope of that group to help the college take a more strategic approach to supporting and growing the research experiences for our undergraduate students. Stay tuned for more information on these changes in the coming weeks.
COSM Buildings
As most of you probably know, the COSM programs are located across three campuses and 11 buildings:
  • Armstrong Campus - Science Center and University Hall

  • Liberty Campus- Campus building

  • Statesboro Campus - Biological Sciences, Math-Physics, Herty, Natural Sciences, Military Science, Botanic Garden, and Engineering

While we have some state of art facilities in some of these buildings, there are a number of them that are having some issues. I am working closely with facilities and the department chairs to develop action plans to begin addressing as many of the issues as possible. It will take time, but I hope you will begin to see progress on some of these issues very soon. If you are having building issues, please contact me directly or your department chair to make sure we are aware of them. Some of them are relatively easy to address, but we can’t work on solutions unless we are aware of them.
