CarolineBrand,Chase Bullard,LilyCooley,Camden Harper,JulietteMontas, LydiaNavitsky,Weston Sadler,andSophiaSydnor campaignedinarespectful mannerandwrotespeechesthatshowedtheirpersonalities,explainedtheir qualificationsforoffice,anddefinedtheirvisionfortheStudentLeadership Council. WhilewepickedtwodeservingwinnersonApril20,2022,weare proudofeachoftheseindividualswhoshowedushowmuchtheycareabout Grymes,andweweretransfixedbytheirabilitytoconveytheirthoughts withenthusiasmtoouraudience.
WhilecelebratingNational PoetryMonthinApril,2nd gradeexploredavarietyof techniques,includingrhyme, repetition,andsensory words.Studentspresented oneoftheiroriginalworks tofriendsandfamilyatour poetrycafé.Thismoment ofself-expressionwasvery touching.

4th Grade Homeroom Teacher Theeighthgradeincludedtheseventhgradeinanewtradition- acombinedclass retreat!Thetwoclassesspentthedayoncampusplayinggamesandgettingto knoweachotherevenbetter.Thegroup’sfavoritegamewasthewaterballoon challenge.

Itisalwaysajoytointroducenewbooksto studentsintheGrymeslibrary! Onespecialopportunitytointeractwithnew bookslastyearwasthroughparticipationinthe VirginiaReaders'ChoiceAwardprogram.Our studentsjoinedstudentsfromacrossthestate toselectVirginiabookawardwinnersfor2022. Throughouttheyearstudentsreadnewbooks nominatedfortheprogram.InApril,students selectedtheirfavorites,droppedtheirballotsinto ourballotbox,andreceived"IVoted"stickers. AfterItalliedthevotesforeachbook,totals wereforwardedtotheVirginiaStateLiteracy Association.OnceVRCAwinnerswereannounced inMay,studentswereabletocomparetheir favoritestothestatewideawardwinners.

Myfavoritemomentinthe2021 -2022schoolyearwasgoingto ColonialWilliamsburgwithmy eighthgradeclass. Itwasso funspendingtimewithmy studentsoutsideofschool. We enjoyedourtimeatColonial Williamsburg,BuschGardensand theScienceMuseumofVirginia. Iespeciallyenjoyedcreating memoriesandlaughingtogether. Whetheritwastouringwithapirateonascooter, screamingintheescape room,orsharingamealwithSeñorLongStraw,Iwillneverforgetspending threedaysontheroadwithsuchaterrificgroupofstudents.Enchanté!
