Finishing line or start?

ARRIVO O PARTENZA?

by Matteo Grazzini And so, 2020 begins… In what seems to be a long time ago but is actually not that distant given the fast pace of modern life, 2020 was looked at as a turning point: all goals were supposed to be achieved by 2020, from the Horizon program to greenhouse-gas emissions limits, from environmental protection agreements to China’s industrial pollution control targets.

Well, here we are. Let’s see if these goals will be met within the next twelve months, but the starting point, at least for the textile-clothing industry, is a 2019 which brought a lot of regrets and some concern. It was not, in fact, an easy year, which was to be expected at the end of 2018, with ridiculously low, if not negative, growth rates for some sectors. But, as the former President of Biella’s Association of Industrialists Marilena Bolli says, textile districts don’t give in easily and keep pursuing sustainability via research, which remains a key issue in 2020. And there are also several inspiring success stories to keep us going, such as the city of Biella itself which, owing to its textile industry, has become part of the UNESCO creative cities network and its urban spaces once devoted to textile production are now among the city’s cultural treasures.

And then comes our traditional tour of trade shows, including an exclusive interview with the General Manager of Première Vision Paris Gilles Lasbordes.

We also deal with Carpi, a textile district which shows great flexibility in adapting to changes and is becoming increasingly open to foreign markets; we discuss the Pitti Filati show and its Fortezza da Basso venue with the President of Firenze Fiera Bassilichi, plus our usual tips for trade show visitors and exhibitors, but this time we suggest how to take a relaxing break at the most beautiful spas in Florence, Milan and Paris.

E così è arrivato anche il 2020. In un passato che sembra ormai remoto ma che in realtà è appena dietro l’angolo se consideriamo la velocità dei tempi in cui viviamo il 2020 era indicato come un anno di svolta: tutto è stato “targato” 2020, dai bandi Horizon ai limiti sulle emissioni di gas, dagli accordi per la tutela dell’ambiente ai target cinesi di riduzione dell’inquinamento prodotto dall’industria, anche quella della moda e del tessile.

Ebbene, ci siamo arrivati.

Vedremo se nei dodici mesi che ci aspettano gli obiettivi saranno raggiunti ma il punto di partenza, almeno per il settore del tessileabbigliamento, è un 2019 che ha lasciato sul campo tanti rimpianti e anche qualche preoccupazione. Si è infatti chiuso un anno non facile, come si poteva presupporre già alla chiusura del 2018, con percentuali di crescita irrisorie, se non negative per alcuni settori. Ma, come ha detto per esempio l’ex presidente dell’Unione Industriale di Biella Marilena Bolli, i distretti non mollano e vanno avanti per la loro strada, fatta di ricerca e sostenibilità, giusto per rimanere sui temi del 2020.

Ad accompagnarli ed accompagnarci ci sono esempi di successo, come la stessa città di Biella, che anche grazie al tessile è diventata simbolo dell’Unesco , gli spazi una volta dedicati al tessile ed adesso patrimonio delle città che li ospitano. E poi le fiere, con una Première Vision Paris raccontata da chi la dirige, Gilles Lasbordes, con un’intervista esclusiva concessa a Showcase.

Ci sono i tessitori di Carpi, un distretto che si sta adattando al cambiamento dei mercati e che si apre sempre di più all’estero; ci sono gli spazi della Fortezza da Basso che ospitano Pitti Filati descritti dal presidente di Firenze Fiera Bassilichi ed infine i consueti e richiesti consigli per chi va a lavorare in fiera. PV: innovation and rules that never change GILLES LASBORDES, INNOVAZIONE E REGOLE CHE NON SI CAMBIANO

Dates, exhibition spaces, type of exhibitors, the companies’ place of origin. All textile trade shows have changed to some degree over the past few years, in order to strengthen their market positioning or gain access to physical or temporal spaces occupied by others. In such a frenzied state, Première Vision struggled to hold its course by making some major decisions, first of all, by bringing all the shows held at Parc des Expositions under the PV Paris brand umbrella and then by creating Blossom to meet the request of pre-collections.

But when it came to a change of venue or date, Première Vision did not budge an inch from its stand, not even when Milano Unica decided to move its date forward to July. Five years after the launching of the new PVP formula, the trade show’s General Manager, Gilles Lasbordes, is ready to take stock and discuss the present and future of PV and of the traditional and new textile world. "When we decided to bring all the Première Vision shows under the same umbrella, our goal was to prevent the various sectors represented at the show from dispersing and from not being connectable to the same textile industry and project by visitors and customers.

This way, we gave everyone the chance to promote and showcase their products. And we did it at a time when the fashion market was going global”.

Première Vision has been unwilling to budge on its stand on dates so far. Is there any chance you might rethink the September show’s date?

For us PV is February and September. We are currently monitoring the market and, in 2015, we had the Institut Français de la Mode carry out a survey to have a better grasp of the fashion production calendar and, based on the survey’s results, we created Blossom PV to introduce the luxury pre-collections three months ahead of the main collections. Anyway, the figures of the past few shows are always available ,we continuously discuss them with buyers and exhibitors and we will keep on doing so in the near future.

Was Blossom a fortunate decision?

Yes, indeed. PV is held too late in the season for pre-collections and by creating Blossom we met the request of luxury brands asking for pre-collections to be released on the retail market in advance.

Many trade shows opened their doors to exhibitors from the Far East and Turkey. What is your stand on the issue?

Under the previous general manager, Première Vision decided to open the trade show to non-European companies as well. In 2002, the first exhibitors from Japan, South Korea and Turkey arrived by going through the same admission process as European companies, that is, through the Selection Committee. Nothing has changed

In questi ultimi anni le fiere del tessile hanno cambiato volto, tutte, chi più e chi meno, inseguendo un nuovo posizionamento sul mercato o cercando spazi fisici o temporali occupati da altri. In questa girandola vorticosa Première Vision ha cercato di mantenere salda la rotta prendendo prima decisioni importanti, come quella di unificare sotto il brand PV Paris tutti i saloni in programma al Parc des Expositions o quella di creare Blossom per assecondare la richiesta di precollezioni. Ma su luogo e calendario mai un passo indietro, neppure quando Milano Unica ha deciso di fare il gran passo dell’anticipo a luglio.

A cinque anni di distanza dal lancio della nuova formula di PVP per il direttore del salone Gilles Lasbordes è il momento di fare un primo bilancio, tra presente e futuro, tra tessile tradizionale e nuovo.

“Quando decidemmo di riunire tutte le fiere di Première Vision sotto lo stesso ombrello fu perché volevamo evitare che i vari settori che caratterizzavano la fiera si disperdessero e non fossero collegabili alla stessa industria tessile e allo stesso progetto da parte dei visitatori e dei clienti. In questo modo abbiamo dato a tutti la stessa possibilità di promuoversi e mostrarsi. E l’abbiamo fatto in un momento in cui il mercato stesso della moda stava diventando globale.

Première Vision è sempre stata ferma sulla questione delle date.

Possibilità di un ripensamento sulla fiera di settembre?

Per noi PV adesso è febbraio e settembre. Stiamo monitorando il mercato e nel 2015 abbiamo fatto un sondaggio con l’Institut Français de la Mode per capire l’agenda delle collezioni di moda ed in base a quello abbiamo ideato Blossom PV per poter presentare le precollezioni del lusso tre mesi prima delle collezioni principali. I dati delle ultime edizioni sono sempre sul tavolo e li confrontiamo con i buyers e gli espositori e continueremo a farlo anche nel prossimo futuro.

La scelta di Blossom è stata positiva?

Assolutamente sì. Per le precollezioni PV arriva troppo tardi e con Blossom abbiamo assecondato una chiara richiesta dei brand del lusso di avere a disposizione le precollezioni per andare in anticipo sul mercato della vendita al dettaglio.

Alcune fiere hanno aperto le porte a espositori provenienti da Oriente e dalla Turchia. Qual è la vostra posizione in merito?

Fin dalla precedente direzione Première Vision ha deciso di aprire il salone a aziende non solo europee, come invece accadeva in precedenza.

since then and we keep granting admission to companies based on their profile, innovative approach and creativity. Of course, mistakes can be made despite all the Committee’s efforts, but in the long term this procedure turned out to be safe and reliable and all the offerings meet the show’s criteria, which do not merely apply to the luxury sector.

What are your plans for the Chinese market, which is undergoing a change after the economic boom of the past few years? Is it true that PV is planning an event in the USA? It’s still too soon to talk about China. It is clearly an important market, the third leading market for clothing following Europe and the US, but we all know that it is going to become the first market within 2025 and, in 2030, its market share is expected to increase by 20% as compared to Europe. So, we’re talking about the leading market and the question is “What can Première Vision do to support it?” , not how to plan a trade show there. We are working on it and we will soon be ready to say how PV is going back to China. As for the US, it’s a completely different matter. We just launched the Sport show in Portland, which was very well received, and we are getting ready for the two 2020 shows, in February and July. But we are also looking at other events, including New York, in order to reposition our show mostly in the sustainability direction.

The Portland show proves that the newest developments lately have been achieved in the field of technical fabrics, along with denim. Are you planning a show devoted exclusively to this kind of product?

No, not right now. We keep an eye on technical fabrics but only with regard to their use in the fashion field or from the sustainability point of view.

Nonostante il lavoro attento del Comitato qualche errore può succedere ma nel lungo termine questo procedimento si è rivelato assolutamente sicuro e affidabile e l’offerta è rimasta omogenea ai criteri del salone, che non riguardano solo il settore lusso.

Quali sono i vostri progetti per il mercato cinese, che dopo il boom degli anni passati sta un po’ cambiando volto? Ed è vero che PV tornerà a organizzare un evento negli USA? E’ ancora un po’ presto per parlare della Cina. E’ ovviamente un mercato importante, per quanto riguarda l’abbigliamento è il terzo dopo Europa e Stati Uniti, ma tutti sanno che entro il 2025 diventerà il primo e nel 2030 avrà una quota di mercato del 20% in più rispetto all’Europa. Sappiamo quindi che parliamo del mercato principale e la questione è capire come Première Vision possa supportarlo, non cosa fare là adesso a livello di fiera. Ci stiamo lavorando e tra un po’ sapremo dire come PV tornerà in Cina. Per gli Stati Uniti invece la storia è diversa. Abbiamo appena lanciato il salone Sport a Portland raccogliendo pareri entusiastici e ci prepariamo alle due edizioni del 2020, a febbraio e a luglio. Ma stiamo lavorando anche ad altro, compresa New York, per riposizionare il nostro salone soprattutto sulla strada della sostenibilità.

La fiera di Portland dimostra come il tessuto tecnico, con il denim, sia quello che ha avuto lo sviluppo maggiore negli ultimi tempi. State pensando ad un salone dedicato solo a questo tipo di prodotto?

Al momento no. Lo seguiamo ma solo in relazione all’applicazione della moda o per quanto riguarda il punto di vista della sostenibilità.

A support to textile companies ENTE MODA ITALIA: UN SUPPORTO ALLE IMPRESE

Ente Moda Italia is a non-profit company established in 1983 by Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana and SMI Sistema Moda italia – Federazione Tessile e Moda. Its mission is mostly to support the expansion of small to medium-sized Italian companies in major international markets by planning trade shows or helping the companies take part in existing shows to provide them with business development opportunities. It is obviously one of the driving forces behind the success of the Pitti shows. Its partners are the company’s founders, Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana and SMI – Sistema Moda Italia. Sitting on the board are Carlo Colombo, Gianfranco Di Natale, Stefano Festa Marzotto, Antonella Mansi and Alberto Scaccioni. Showcase asked a few questions to President Stefano Festa Marzotto.

What role do you believe Ente Moda Italia will be playing in the near future?

Ente Moda Italia should further develop its role as a point of reference in the internationalization of Italy’s small and medium-sized fashion companies. We have a thirty-year experience in the field, which we daily put at the companies’ disposal, we have well-established relations with trade show organizations all over the world and we operate autonomously in many international markets. So our role must necessarily be that of internationalizing as many fashion production chains as possible, also in order to compensate for the downturns in the domestic market and closer markets.

What is the guiding light of your presidency and what are the greatest difficulties for the sector?

My job and my team’s job- for nothing we do can be achieved without a team- is to accompany small and medium-sized Italian companies in those foreign markets which are particularly sensitive to Italian brands and find new foreign markets where we believe there are business opportunities and establish contacts. The greatest difficulties are related to tariff barriers to trade and bureaucratic obstacles which do not allow the fluid circulation of goods and people.

La sua mission è essenzialmente supportare l’espansione delle piccole-medie imprese italiane sui più importanti mercati internazionali, organizzando fiere o aiutando le imprese a partecipare ad eventi già esistenti per creare opportunità di sviluppo commerciale alle imprese.

E’ ovviamente tra i soggetti che contribuiscono al successo delle manifestazioni di Pitti. I soci che la compongono sono i fondatori Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana e SMI – Sistema Moda Italia.

Il consiglio di amministrazione è formato da Carlo Colombo, Gianfranco Di Natale, Stefano Festa Marzotto, Antonella Mansi e Alberto Scaccioni.

Showcase ha rivolto alcune domande al suo presidente Stefano Festa Marzotto.

Che ruolo vede nei prossimi anni per Ente Moda Italia?

Ente Moda Italia deve sviluppare ancora di più il proprio ruolo di punto di riferimento per l'internazionalizzazione delle piccole e medie aziende italiane della moda, nel suo complesso. Abbiamo alle spalle un'esperienza trentennale che mettiamo quotidianamente al servizio del sistema delle imprese, abbiamo rapporti consolidati con organizzatori fieristici di tutto il mondo e siamo in grado di attivarci autonomamente in molti mercati internazionali. Il nostro ruolo quindi dovrà necessariamente essere quello di internazionalizzare quante più filiere produttive del sistema moda-persona, anche per compensare le flessioni del mercato domestico e di quelli più vicini.

Quali sono le luci guida del suo mandato e quale la difficoltà maggiore per il settore?

Il mio compito e del team, perché da soli non si fa nulla, è quello di accompagnare le imprese italiane specialmente piccole e medie in quei mercati esteri ricettivi dei marchi italiani ed inoltre individuare nuovi mercati esteri in cui riteniamo possano esserci opportunità di lavoro e metterli in contatto con gli operatori del settore. Le maggiori difficoltà sono quelle legate alle barriere tariffarie e agli ostacoli burocratici che rendono poco fluida la circolazione di merci e persone.

Who are, in your opinion, the ideal partners in the promotion of the sector?

First of all, our professional associations and then the public bodies Mise and ICE. Florence-Milan, Rome perhaps: which are Italy’s fashion roads?

Italy as a whole, because the Italian production chain is made up of companies based in every single region and with deeply grounded roots. But when it comes to promotion and establishing contacts with other markets, we can count on Florence and Milan which, over the years, have become major trade show destinations where menswear and womenswear production from all over Italy is introduced to the world.

The sector’s latest performance data are quite disappointing and the prospects are not bright: what is your opinion and what message do you have for young people who are not attracted to the sector anymore?

I’m a born optimist: the history and tradition of our companies, unique of their kind, will never die, even if a few seasons are not as successful as we had hoped. My message for young people is: come and visit the companies yourself, breathe in the atmosphere and get a better understanding of what allowed Italy to become the world’s leading manufacturing country. Come and have a taste of the passion, values, teamwork, success and even disappointments- which build the character and strength of our companies- straight from the horse’s mouth.

Quali sono i soggetti che vede come partner ideali per la promozione del settore?

Il coordinamento con le nostre associazioni di settore in primis e gli organi pubblici, Mise e ICE. Firenze-Milano, forse Roma: quali sono le strade dell’Italia della moda?

E’ tutta l’Italia, poiché la filiera italiana è presente con aziende con caratteristiche qualitative e riconoscitive in tutte le regioni con una tradizione molto radicata e particolare.

Per la promozione e l’incontro con il mercato invece ci sono Firenze e Milano che hanno costruito negli anni dei momenti professionali distinti di incontro presentando al mondo le produzioni di tutta Italia coordinandosi con gli appuntamenti e i prodotti uomo e donna.

Gli ultimi dati relativi al settore sono abbastanza deludenti e anche le prospettive non sono rosee: qual è il suo commento e soprattutto cosa può dire a quei giovani che non sentono più l’appeal di questo settore?

Io sono sempre ottimista: la storia e la tradizione delle nostre imprese uniche al mondo continueranno anche se qualche stagione non brilla come vorremmo.

Per i giovani il messaggio è che devono venire nelle imprese a respirare ed a conoscere ciò che ha permesso all’Italia di essere leader al mondo di questo settore manifatturiero.

Percepire da chi è attore principale nelle imprese, anche se piccola, la passione, i valori , il lavoro di team , le soddisfazioni anche le delusioni che formano il carattere e la forza delle nostre aziende.

The home of Pitti’s trade shows has always been Fortezza da Basso, a venue whose charm adds much to the attractiveness of the three shows. Showcase talks about this key to the success of the trade shows, which has drawn both praise and criticism over the years, with Leonardo Bassilichi, the President of Firenze Fiera since July 2017.

The collaboration between Firenze Fiera and Pitti Immagine continues: what is its strength?

Florence’s trade show and congress center is based on two leading players: Firenze Fiera and Pitti. There is great complementarity between the two subjects. Through our combined efforts, we bring together excellence and expertise in many fields, from fashion to culture and craftwork, and we are able to bring multinational corporations from all over the world to trade shows and congresses here in Florence. I believe that Florence has become a leading destination in this field in the past few years. Of course, we cannot compete in terms of size, but in terms of quality and increasingly personalized services we can. We are not interested in mass production, but in developing niche sectors which are consistent with the local economic and productive fabric.

We’ve heard rumors about renovation plans for the Congress Center: what are the latest news?

Renovation works on the Palaffari, owned by Firenze Fiera, began in December 2018: a modern and eco-sustainable congress center has been carefully considered to respect the original architecture, with an investment of 8 million euros. Reclamation works took one year and the building’s renovation, which began in the first weeks of 2020, will be completed within 2021.

And what about the renovation works on Fortezza da Basso, what is needed to give further impetus to Florence as an international exhibition and trade show destination?

We know very well what is needed: the construction of a new exhibition area for which we already have the resources and design. On January 13, 2020, as soon as the Pitti Immagine Uomo show ended, renovation works on the Fortezza da Basso- owned by the Region, Città Metropolitana, the City and Chamber of Commerce of Florence- began, while the preliminary works on the first lot of walls started a few weeks earlier. We are also preparing the call for tenders for the design of the new Bellavista pavilion to host congresses attended by three thousand people. In all, the relaunching plan involves an investment of 80 million, 50 of which provided by the Chamber of Commerce, 10 by Firenze Fiera and 20 through CIPE funds.

La kermesse di Pitti ha da sempre il suo ambiente nella Fortezza da Basso, location con fascino che arricchisce le tre manifestazioni. Tra gli elementi fondamentali per il successo dei saloni, suscita plausi e critiche al tempo stesso, Showcase ne parla con Leonardo Bassilichi, da luglio 2017 presidente di Firenze Fiera.

Continua la collaborazione tra Firenze Fiera e Pitti Immagine: quali sono i punti di forza di questo connubio?

Il polo fieristico e congressuale dell’area fiorentina è fatto da due grandi player: uno è la Fiera, l’altro è Pitti. C’è grande complementarietà fra i due soggetti. Insieme mettiamo insieme eccellenze che vanno dalla moda alla cultura, passando per l’artigianato. Insieme riusciamo a far arrivare, per fiere o congressi, multinazionali da tutto il mondo. Penso che negli ultimi anni Firenze stia provando sempre di più a essere un protagonista di livello mondiale in questo settore. Certo, non possiamo competere con le dimensioni, ma possiamo farlo con la qualità e con i servizi sempre più personalizzati. Non ci interessano produzioni di massa, ma sviluppare settori di nicchia che ben si sposano con il tessuto economico e produttivo.

Da tempo si parla di lavori di ammodernamento del centro congressi: quali sono le ultime notizie?

I lavori al Palaffari, di proprietà di Firenze Fiera, sono iniziati a dicembre 2018: nel rispetto della sua architettura originale verrà adeguato a un moderno ed ecosostenibile centro congressuale, per il quale si prevede un investimento di 8 milioni di euro. I lavori di bonifica sono durati un anno e la ristrutturazione, che inizierà nelle prime settimane del 2020, sarà conclusa nel corso del 2021.

Cosa serve per dare un ulteriore slancio a Firenze come centro espositivo e fieristico di livello internazionale?

Ciò che serve lo sappiamo già. E’ realizzare la nuova area espositiva per la quale abbiamo già risorse e progetti di massima. Il 13 gennaio, al termine di Pitti Immagine Uomo, sono iniziati i lavori di ristrutturazione della Fortezza da Basso di proprietà di Regione, Città metropolitana, Comune e Camera di Commercio di Firenze, alcune settimane prima erano partite le operazioni preliminari di cantiere per ristrutturare il primo lotto delle mura. Stiamo anche definendo il bando di gara per la progettazione del nuovo padiglione Bellavista che permetterà di ospitare congressi da 3mila partecipanti. Complessivamente, il piano di rilancio prevede un investimento di 80 milioni, 50 dei quali arrivano da Camera di commercio, 10 da Firenze fiera, gli altri 20 attraverso fondi Cipe.

Which matters need to be addressed at the national level and which at the local level?

I enjoy focusing on what the trade show center can do for the local area and its economy rather than the opposite. But it is clear that no development of a trade show-congress center is possible without the infrastructure required to reach the center and this involves all government levels. Therefore, the construction of the high-speed train station and new airport runway is crucial and must be completed as soon as possible. Equally important is the construction of the Tyrrhenian highway and port of Leghorn. Florence is not an island, but a final exhibition destination which thrives only if perfectly attuned to the surrounding social, economic and urban fabric.

There has been some talk about Bologna Fiere’s interest in you in the past fall: do you believe a merger is a possibility in the near future?

In the past few months, Firenze Fiera aroused the interest of many leading players in the field, probably because we were able to reposition the company at the national level in only three years’ time, mostly by working on some of its best products, such as MIDA, the new arts and crafts show, and Didacta, Italy’s first trade show devoted to education. So, we will keep going in this direction…and then in life it’s important to be able to choose.

What relationship do you have with Milan, the city that hosts the country’s major events?

Florence and Milan have always been complementary to one another. Suffice is to say that the Fashion Week begins in Tuscany and ends in Lombardy. In the past few years, Milan relaunched itself as a tourist destination by completely remodeling its territory and economy. I would like to see Florence do the same, and the Fortezza da Basso could be at the epicenter of this cultural change.

Mi piace più pensare a quello che la fiera può fare per il territorio, per la sua economia e non il contrario. Ma è chiaro che nessuno sviluppo fieristico-congressuale è possibile se non ci sono le infrastrutture per rendere raggiungibile il polo e questo riguarda tutti i livelli di governo.

In quest’ottica, la realizzazione della stazione ad alta velocità e la nuova pista dell’aeroporto sono infrastrutture indispensabili da completare nel più breve tempo possibile. Altrettanto importante è costruire la dorsale Tirrenica o il porto di Livorno. Firenze non è un’isola, ma un luogo finale di esposizione e incontro che può vivere al meglio solo se tutto il tessuto sociale, economico e urbano circostante è adeguato e in perfetta sintonia.

In autunno si è parlato di un interesse per voi da parte di Bologna Fiere: una fusione che può essere ipotizzata per il futuro?

Firenze Fiera negli ultimi mesi ha suscitato l’interesse di molti player primari del settore, questo credo sia dovuto al fatto che in tre anni siamo riusciti a riposizionare la società a livello nazionale, lavorando molto anche su alcuni suoi prodotti migliori, come MIDA, la nuova mostra dell’artigianato e Didacta, la prima fiera della scuola in Italia.

Dunque, andremo avanti su questa strada… e poi nella vita è sempre meglio poter scegliere.

Qual è il rapporto con Milano, città che riunisce i maggiori eventi del Paese?

Firenze e Milano sono da sempre complementari. Basta pensare alla settimana della moda che inizia in Toscana e finisce in Lombardia.

Milano poi ha saputo reinventarsi negli ultimi anni: partendo da un’intuizione, come l’Expo, ha rimodellato completamente il territorio e la sua economia. Mi piacerebbe che anche Firenze potesse cambiare questa cultura. E la Fortezza da Basso ne può essere l’epicentro.

“A lost tradition means a lost future”. These words were spoken

by Chinese academician and architect Wang Shu, and no words could better introduce the main topic of this article, that is, some amazing examples of twentieth-century textile mills converted into cultural spaces open to the public.

Not only places which illustrate the history of textile industry, such as factories’ archives, but also spaces devoted to art and public debate. Most of these former textile factories, which are fine examples of industrial archeology, are found in Tuscany and Northern Italy. Industrial sites preserved and converted to other uses, unlike many forgotten mills and factories across the country which ended up abandoned and then demolished or remodeled into a style completely different from the original architecture.

Those who decided to convert remaining industrial buildings to uses other than manufacturing had two choices: create an archive or transform them into spaces accessible to the public, with the help of state or private funds.

The former choice was made, for instance, by the Historical Lineapiù Archive, established in 2012, which contains over 33 thousand pieces representing the company’s historical heritage from 1975 to the present day. Everything has been catalogued by season, material, color and type of yarn and then digitalized, from experimental knitwear garments to color cards, from decorative knitted objects and tapestries to rare books. The Archive includes also a collection of vintage and contemporary clothing made by prestigious fashion brands by using Lineapiù yarns, a Stitch Room with 5,000 stitch swatches, a Library and, the newest addition, the Room of Rarities, featuring a collection of over 1,500 pieces of lace, embroidery and textile samples dating from the late sixteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries.

And all this in addition to a studies center, a museum and also one of Italy’s major documentation centers for the preservation of knitwear yarns and textile materials.

Also the famous Ermenegildo Zegna brand created an archive to house and collect material on its over one-hundredyear history. The idea came up in 2003 and became reality in 2007 with the opening of the Casa Zegna complex housed in the Trivero Wool Mill. The Archive’s website was introduced in 2013. The Archive contains about 1,000 folders of paper documents and over 100,000 phototypes, Lanificio Zegna’s oldest sample collection, from 1910 to 1960, a technical library.

But there are also industrial buildings which were once filled with the noise of looms clattering and are now devoted to culture, in particular, textile culture. Two of them are based in Prato, that is, the Museo del Tessile, housed in the former Campolmi Factory, within the city’s medieval walls, and the Lucchesi Factory, which is just outside of the city walls.

Le parole sono di un accademico ed architetto cinese, Wang Shu, e significato e professione sono il miglior prologo a questo articolo, che vuol raccontare alcuni mirabili esempi di conversione degli opifici tessili del secolo scorso in spazi aperti alla cultura, alla conoscenza e al pubblico.

Non solo luoghi per raccontare e spiegare il tessile, come gli archivi delle fabbriche, ma anche spazi dedicati all’arte e al dibattito: Toscana e nord Italia ospitano la maggior parte delle ex fabbriche tessili diventate ottimi esempi di archeologia industriale o di recupero di immobili altrimenti destinati all’oblio, come purtroppo accaduto a molti stabilimenti abbandonati e poi abbattuti o completamente stravolti nella loro architettura.

Due le strade che si sono presentate a chi ha voluto destinare capannoni e stanze ad una funzione diversa da quella produttiva: creare un archivio per tramandare e custodire i campionari oppure convertire gli spazi, con l’aiuto del pubblico o con investimento privato.

Al primo gruppo appartiene, per esempio, l’Archivio Storico Lineapiù, inaugurato nel 2012, che conserva e ordina oltre 33 mila elementi che costituiscono il patrimonio storico dell’azienda dal 1975 ad oggi. Tutto è inventariato e digitalizzato, dagli esemplari di maglieria sperimentale, alle cartelle di campionario, passando per oggetti in maglia, arazzi e libri rari e tutto è ricercabile per stagione, materia, colore o filato utilizzato. L’Archivio ospita anche una collezione di abiti vintage e contemporanei realizzati da prestigiosi brand con i filati Lineapiù, una Sala dei Punti con 5.000 telini, una Biblioteca e l’ultima arrivata, la Sala dei Rari, che raccoglie una collezione di pizzi, ricami e campionari tessili composta da oltre 1.500 esemplari prodotti dalla fine del ‘500 fino alla metà del ‘900. E’ questo, oltre ad un centro di studio ed un vero e proprio museo aziendale, anche uno maggiori centri di documentazione per la conservazione dei filati per maglieria e materiali tessili.

Nella stessa direzione si è mosso per il suo archivio, che racconta storie e prodotti di oltre cento anni, un brand come Ermenegildo Zegna. Un'idea nata nel 2003 e concretizzata nel 2007 con l'inaugurazione del complesso di Casa Zegna all'interno del Lanificio di Trivero. Nel 2013 è arrivato anche il sito web dell'archivio, che fa da guida virtuale lungo le principali linee di sviluppo del “mondo” Zegna. In freddi numeri si tratta di circa 1.000 faldoni di documentazione cartacea, più di 100.000 fototipi e la parte più antica del campionario del Lanificio Zegna, dal 1910 al 1960; poi ancora una biblioteca tecnica, pellicole storiche e filmati con circa 1.000 titoli e oggettistica pubblicitaria prodotta già dagli anni ’30.

Ma ci sono anche luoghi in cui una volta rimbombava il rumore dei telai ed adesso invece trova spazio la cultura, anche tessile. Due sono a Prato, ovvero il Museo del Tessuto, nato negli spazi una volta occupati dalla fabbrica Campolmi, appena dentro le mura medievali, ad un passo dal centro storico, e la fabbrica Lucchesi, che invece si appoggia all’esterno delle stesse mura. illustrates the history of textile industry and, thus, the city’s history, and temporary themed exhibitions, such as the current one showcasing the costumes worn in the Pinocchio film by Matteo Garrone, running until March 22. The Lucchesi Factory leans on the city’s fourteenth-century defensive walls and overlooks an ancient entrance gate to Prato. Promoted by FAI visits and openings, the factory represents a very good example of integration between the past and present, between a museum in a factory and textiles in a museum. It houses a vast collection of fabrics and late-nineteenth century technical books, as well as a medieval loom, machinery built in the postwar period, vintage clothing and family memorabilia.

The most representative symbol of old textile industry in the Biella area is the former Fratelli Zignone wool mill, better known as the Pray Fabbrica della Ruota: a large building dating back to 1878, located along the Scolo stream and housing a factory which, after several changes of ownership, the 1927 flood and the postwar period crisis, shut down in 1966. Later purchased by Carlo Beretta, the factory was donated to the Biella DocBi Studies Center in 1991 and is now a cultural center operating within Biella’s ecomuseum system. Its historical archive is open to the public and web-accessible too. The Lanificio di Stia factory, based in the Casentino area, in Tuscany, after years of neglect, was converted into a museum offering a journey through the history of the local textile industry which, in the past century, employed hundreds of people in the area. This 23,000-square-meter Museo dell'Arte della Lana stands as a testament to that golden age, but also to the architectural value of buildings built between the 18th and 20th centuries. And the history of wool is traced from the dawn of civilization to the Industrial Revolution.

una collezione permanente che racconta la storia del tessile e quindi della città stessa e mostre a tema, come l’attuale esposizione sui costumi utilizzati per il film Pinocchio di Matteo Garrone, aperta fino al 22 marzo. La seconda invece ha mura trecentesche come pareti e consente di vedere anche un’antica porta di accesso alla città. Al suo interno, valorizzato anche dalle giornate del FAI, il vero esempio di integrazione e convivenza tra il passato ed il presente, tra un museo in fabbrica e il tessuto in un museo. Vi si trovano un'ampia collezione suddivisa per tipologie di tessuto e antichi volumi di fine Ottocento con le disposizioni tecniche, ma anche un telaio medioevale accanto ai macchinari del dopoguerra, abiti da collezione e ricordi di famiglia.

Nel biellese il simbolo del tessile che fu è l’ex Lanificio Fratelli Zignone, conosciuto ormai come la Fabbrica della Ruota di Pray: un grande edificio costruito nel 1878 lungo il rio Scoldo per dare vita ad un’attività che, dopo vari passaggi di proprietà e ragioni sociali, un'alluvione nel 1927 e le crisi del secondo dopoguerra, terminò nel 1966. Acquistata da Carlo Beretta nel 1991 è stata donata al DocBi-Centro Studi Biellesi ed adesso è un centro culturale inserito nel sistema ecomuseale della provincia di Biella. L’archivio è un patrimonio di storia e conoscenze disponibile a tutti e fruibile sia in Rete che con visite e laboratori. Un percorso simile a quello del Lanificio di Stia, nel Casentino, in Toscana, che dopo decenni di abbandono è tornato ad ospitare il tessuto per un percorso espositivo che racconta la storia di una produzione che, nel secolo scorso, ha dato lavoro a centinaia di persone del luogo. Il Museo dell' Arte della Lana è lì, con i suoi 23.000 metri quadrati, a testimoniare quell’età dell’oro ma anche il valore architettonico dei vari edifici costruiti tra il XVIII e il XX secolo. E la lana è raccontata sin dai primordi della civiltà umana fino alla rivoluzione industriale.

Walking among the stands A SPASSO TRA GLI STAND

by Matteo Grazzini Our usual tour of international textile-clothing trade shows starts with the waving of a flag, like at a bicycle race. Flags are, in fact, the theme chosen by Pitti Immagine for the three trade shows held at Florence’s Fortezza da Basso, with the last one being Pitti Filati, the show that traditionally marks the release of our winter Showcase issue.

“Show Your Flags at Pitti”! is the slogan of Pitti Filati, with the choreography by photographer Franco Pagetti, art direction by Angelo Figus, who also curated the setting at Fortezza da Basso, and set design by Alessandro Moradei. The trade show, in its 86th edition, features Sustainable again, the sustainability project launched for the first time last June. Combining top-quality yarn production and respect for the ecosystem is a challenge taken up by every single company participating in the show, over 130 in all, including knitwear, accessories and services. A high attendance of exhibitors that provides further evidence of the importance of this trade show, which is always a reliable indicator of the health of Italy’s textile-clothing industry.

At the same time as Pitti Filati, there is the new Colombiatex show, in Medellin, which, as far as Italian companies are concerned, is of great importance for the textile-machinery industry, for Agenzia Ice has greatly promoted the Italian participation in the fair held at Plaza Major, South America’s major textile industry event.

From February 4 to 6, Rho is the European capital of the textile industry, with the 30th Milano Unica show featuring the 2021 Spring/Summer collections of companies looking at the high-end market. Special focus again on Japan and South Korea, vintage fashion, young designers and professional associations. The show’s new 2020 addition is the Startup Textile Connection & Innovation area, located at Pavilion 16: the area devoted to startups selected

by Startupbootcamp FashionTech and Agenzia Ice along with the innovative TexClubTec companies. They are Italian and international startups, chosen among 1,200 candidates, which will introduce solutions designed to revolutionize the entire fashion chain, from more sustainable fashion products and business models to digital solutions and artificial intelligence and product traceability

Il nostro abituale giro tra le fiere internazionali del tessileabbigliamento inizia con lo sventolio di una bandiera, come una corsa ciclistica. Quello delle bandiere è infatti il tema scelto da Pitti Immagine per accompagnare il trittico di saloni della Fortezza da Basso di Firenze che si chiude con Pitti Filati, la fiera che da tradizione segna l’uscita periodica di Showcase.

“Show Your Flags at Pitti”! è lo slogan che accompagna Pitti Filati con una coreografia studiata e realizzata dal fotografo Franco Pagetti, con l’art direction di Angelo Figus, che cura anche gli allestimenti in Fortezza da Basso assieme al set design di Alessandro Moradei. Un numero elevato che conferma l’importanza di una fiera che da sempre fa da termometro per lo stato di salute del tessile abbigliamento italiano.

In contemporanea a Pitti Filati si svolge, a Medellin, la nuova edizione di Colombiatex, che per quanto riguarda le aziende italiane, è importante per chi opera nel meccanotessile vista la presenza di un’area verde-bianco-rossa organizzata da Agenzia Ice a Plaza Major, sede del più importante evento dell’industria tessile in Sudamerica.

Dal 4 al 6 febbraio sarà invece Rho la capitale europea del tessile, con l’edizione numero 30 di Milano Unica, con le collezioni Primavera/Estate 2021 protagoniste negli stand delle aziende che guardano al mercato di alta gamma. Confermata la formula ormai abituale con gli osservatori su Giappone e Corea del Sud, il Vintage, lo spazio per i giovani designers e le varie collaborazioni con le associazioni di categoria. La novità del 2020 è l’area Startup Textile Connection & Innovation, situata nel padiglione 16: lì si raggrupperanno le startup selezionate da Startupbootcamp FashionTech e Agenzia Ice insieme alle aziende innovative di TexClubTec. Si tratta di startup italiane ed internazionali, scelte tra più di 1.200 candidature, che avranno la possibilità di presentare soluzioni in grado di rivoluzionare l’intera filiera della moda, da prodotti e modelli di business per una moda più sostenibile, a

Held on the same three days (a true challenge for the smaller companies which will have to divide their time between the two shows, besides preventing German customers from reaching Milan) is Munich Fabric Start, Northern Europe’s major textile trade show. “Despite the overlapping date of Milano Unica, after having discussed the matter with exhibitors and visitors, we are sure we can count on three successful trade show days”, Sebastian Klinder, the Managing Director of Munich Fabric Start, said.

Of course, we cannot but hope for the best results.

The following week will be devoted to the Parisian fairs, including Texworld and its “sisters” (Apparel Sourcing, Avantex, Leatherworld, Shawls&Scarves, Texworld Denim) and Première Vision Paris. The Messe Frankfurt shows held at Le Bourget expect a higher attendance of exhibitors this time around, because of a large group of Pakistani companies taking part in the fairs, while the Parc des Expositions of Villepinte sticks to the successful strategy adopted in the past few years, with the world’s major textile show introducing the main collections two months after the pre-collections’ debut at Blossom PV. Our tour ends at Filo, which this season features both a change of venue ( it moves from Palazzo delle Stelline to MiCo) and a change of date (February 27 and 28, Thursday and Friday in place of the usual Wednesday and Thursday): larger spaces to accommodate more exhibitors and more services for companies and visitors.

Ed è l’augurio che anche noi gli facciamo.

La settimana seguente si aprirà con il carosello parigino tra Texworld e le sue “sorelle” (Apparel Sourcing, Avantex, Leatherworld, Shawls&Scarves, Texworld Denim) e Première Vision Paris. Chiusura di tour con le novità di Filo, che in un colpo solo si sposta di sede (dal Palazzo delle Stelline al MiCo) e di data (27 e 28 febbraio, giovedì e venerdì anziché mercoledì e giovedì come al solito): spazi più ampi per assecondare la crescita di espositori e più servizi offerti ad aziende e visitatori.

The textile industry is a “world heritage” BIELLA, IL TESSILE È DAVVERO UN “PATRIMONIO”

“Craft and folk art”. This is the definition of the sector that gained Biella and its textile district the recognition as Creative UNESCO City, in the second half of 2019 as the result of hard work and of a community initiative which brought various individuals and corporate entities participating together in the project. As such, the definition “Craft and folk art” actually diminishes the role played by the local textile industry and crafts in providing the city and surrounding area with a card to play on the international scene in the relaunching of the Biella “brand”. At a time when caution might be a safer course, Biella opted for action so as to prove that a crisis can be sidestepped and even overcome by using planning skills, far-sightedness and the power of ideas.

In late October 2019, Biella joined the UNESCO network thanks to its creativity, along with the cities of Torino and Alba, which were given the same recognition by the United Nations’ Cultural Organization for other reasons. Biella’s official symbol and logo looks very much like a colored and twisted yarn of wool, but it actually represents the “Third Paradise” by worldwide-famous artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, who was born in Biella and designed the logo for the nomination, joining a manifesto supporting the project signed by the Ambassadors of the Third Paradise and concretely showing how different individuals and entities from the same district collaborated on the project.

Being part of the Creative Cities network is a cause for pride for all those who worked hard to achieve a goal which Como, instead, was unable to attain: “I am very pleased with this extraordinary result, which enhances our deep commitment- the President of Biella’s Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio Franco Ferraris says- because Biella has a huge potential not only in the textile creativity field”. “This is a win-win for the whole communitythe Mayor of Biella Claudio Corradino says- and months of hard work and dedication have been rewarded with success”.

“Here at Cittadellarte we are very happy that Biella was given the recognition of Creative UNESCO City under the auspicious symbol of the Third Paradise”, Michelangelo Pistoletto enthusiastically says.

“Craft and folk art”. Questa la definizione del settore che ha assicurato a Biella e al suo distretto il riconoscimento di Città creativa Unesco, arrivato nella seconda parte del 2019 dopo un lungo lavoro che ha coinvolto molteplici realtà in un progetto unico.

Il nome in inglese forse addirittura sminuisce il ruolo svolto da tessile e artigianato nel dare alla città e al suo territorio una carta di valore da giocare sul tavolo internazionale nella partita del prestigio e del rilancio del “brand” Biella. In un periodo storico in cui la cautela ed il rifugio dietro a mura di magazzini e fabbriche apparentemente sicure potrebbero prendere il sopravvento sulla progettualità e la lungimiranza Biella ha dimostrato che le crisi si possono aggirare o anche sconfiggere con la forza delle idee.

Da fine ottobre Biella è entrata nel network Unesco grazie alla sua creatività e si è aggiunta a Torino e Alba, che per altri meriti possono sfoggiare il logo dell’organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per la Cultura.

Biella ha affidato il suo simbolo ad un intreccio colorato che non può non ricordare un filo di lana ma che in realtà è il “Terzo Paradiso” dell'artista internazionale Michelangelo Pistoletto, che ha origini biellesi e che lo ha messo a disposizione come logo della candidatura, sottoscrivendo un manifesto a sostegno del progetto a firma degli Ambasciatori del Terzo Paradiso e dimostrando in modo fattivo l’interazione tra più soggetti dello stesso distretto.

Biella’s entrepreneurial culture consists of all those factors which contribute to the definition of the added value of intangible assets: an added value which is the signature feature of our top-quality production, and not only textile production. The challenge which we need to focus on now is making ourselves known, being able to better communicate our characteristics, our niche identity in various sectors, and opening up to the world. I’m referring in particular to rail links: I will never tire of repeating that a direct train to Turin and Milan would positively impact on the area at all levels: demographic, real estate, tourist, social and economic in general. I wish Biella and us the best of luck, I hope we will not lose the enthusiasm which has grown over the past year due to the nomination and that our passion will translate into initiatives aimed at Biella’s further development”.

The victory of fancy A ZETA FILATI, FANTASIA CHE PREMIA

When the market calls, A Zeta Filati is ready to answer. The Tuscan textile company is very pleased with the results of 2019, in terms of both sales figures - which have been increasingly strong and are an indicator of how well the staff performed as a team- and latest developments, the most important of which has been achieved when 2019 was coming to an end. A ZetaFilati, in fact, closed a major business deal in the final months of the year: the take-over of Mister Joe, a yarn manufacturing company for industrial knitwear taking part in the Pitti Filati show, which Alessandro Aiazzi brought under A Zeta’s “protection” by taking over all the shares and rehiring all former employees.

“This way- Aiazzi explains- we are joining the knitwear world with a trusted and well-established name while staying true to A Zeta’s identity. We plan to keep the companies separate at first, but then we will merge them into a single logistic and operational structure, though still keeping the two brands distinct”.

The official debut will take place at the Filo show, where A Zeta will also introduce a new top-quality line: “We are happy with the show’s change of date- Aiazzi says- and we also like the new location”. A Zeta Filati can count on a total 2019 production volume of one million kilograms of yarn, including the Home line, which gave very successful results over the year.

The company has definitely performed very well both in Italy, especially in the Brianza area and Prato, but also on foreign markets, in particular, Belgium. Not to mention two of A Zeta’s key services: customer assistance and fast sampling time. “Our fancy yarns- Aiazzi concludes- have been very well-received in both the weaving and furniture field, which is and will continue to be a very rewarding sector in the future. The Prato district is still very alive and kicking in this field, but the market is not big enough for everyone, which is the reason why we need to produce what the market requires and follow the trends to constantly innovate”.

Il mercato chiama, A Zeta Filati risponde. Il 2019 è un anno che l’azienda toscana può mandare in archivio con grande soddisfazione, sia per i numeri, che sono in crescita ormai da tempo e che premiano il lavoro di tutto lo staff, che per le novità che sono arrivate, la più importante delle quali proprio al tramonto del vecchio anno.

A Zeta infatti è entrata nel 2020 sulla scia di un’importante operazione chiusa negli ultimi mesi del 2019, l’acquisizione di Mister Joe, produttrice di filati per maglieria industriale e per aguglieria di fascia alta, presente anche a Pitti Filati, che Alessandro Aiazzi ha voluto portare sotto l’ala di A Zeta, rilevando tutto il pacchetto azionario dal precedente proprietario e garantendo ovviamente il mantenimento del lavoro per tutti i dipendenti. “In questo modo – spiega Aiazzi – entriamo nel mondo della maglieria con un nome già molto conosciuto e apprezzato senza intaccare l’identità storica di A Zeta”.

Il debutto ufficiale a Filo, dove A Zeta presenterà anche una nuova linea pregiata: “La nuova data della fiera ci piace – continua Aiazzi – ed anche la location ci sembra adatta”. Ed alla fiera milanese A Zeta arriverà forte di una produzione annua, nel 2019, di un milione di chili di filati, comprensivi anche della linea Home, che tanta soddisfazione ha dato nel corso dei mesi. Italia, con la Brianza e Prato in prima fila, ma anche l’estero, con il Belgio, i mercati che hanno risposto meglio. Presenza costante dal cliente, campionature veloci e tempi di produzione ristretti, sono gli elementi essenziali nel servizio offerto da A Zeta.

“La fantasia dei nostri filati per tessitura – conclude Aiazzi – è piaciuta sia per l’abbigliamento che per l’arredamento, settore quest’aultimo che ha dato e può dare ancora molte soddisfazioni.

Ritengo che il distretto di Prato sia ancora presente e vivo ma il mercato non è grande abbastanza per tutti, per questo dobbiamo essere in grado di sviluppare il prodotto sulla base delle richieste dei clienti e nello stesso tempo seguire i trend per essere sempre più propositivi".

Getting the district RIPRENDERSI IL DISTRETTO

Two years have gone by since Gruppo Colle left Confindustria Toscana Nord and, as the elections for the new president of the Textile Section are approaching, the Val di Bisenziobased company looks at the district as a whole, at its potential and future. The first issues that need to be addressed are the Prato area, with its companies and local problems, such as the management of Gida and the Buzzilab matter; relations with the regional and city government; and Milan, where Sistema Moda Italia holds Prato in great esteem because of it being upstream of the textile production process.

“The time has come to start thinking about a company union Gruppo Colle says - which defends the companies’ interests and spurs them forward. This is Confindustria’s job, including dealing with textile waste, energy costs, training, relations with trade unions and the national and local government. And Confindustria can do it because the association is made up of extraordinary professionals”.

“We need to relate to whomever wishes to and can help us Gruppo Colle continues - starting with the Regional and City Government, with which there has never been enough and clear communication. We need to bring attention back to the real manufacturing industry, we need to go back to being a textile and not fashion production district. And we need to reflect on the parallel district, on relations within the textile chain, and on what steps forward we’ve made in the past ten years, during which a good deal of professional expertise was lost”. Gruppo Colle hopes that “choices are made in order to bring Confindustria back to its role as company union. Discussing fumes, industrial waste, emissions may not be pleasant, but these are our everyday problems, rather than Prato’s positioning on the world fashion scene. We need corporate culture, both young people and the more experienced ones. Had there been corporate culture, things with Buzzi and Gida would have gone differently”.

Sono passati ormai due anni da quando Gruppo Colle ha deciso di uscire da Confindustria Toscana Nord e, alla vigilia o quasi delle elezioni per la nomina del presidente della sezione Tessile, dall’azienda della Val di Bisenzio si guarda alla totalità del distretto, alle sue potenzialità e al suo futuro.

Uno sguardo che inizia dal territorio pratese, con le sue aziende e le problematiche più locali, come la gestione di Gida o la scomparsa del BuzziLab, passa dai rapporti con le istituzioni come il Comune di Prato e la Regione Toscana, ed arriva fino a Milano, dove Sistema Moda Italia tiene in grande considerazione il distretto laniero in virtù della sua anima “a monte” della filiera.

“E’ il momento di pensare ad un sindacato di impresa – dicono a Gruppo Colle – che difenda le aziende e le stimoli. Questo è il compito di Confindustria che comprende l’occuparsi di scarti tessili, dei costi dell’energia, della formazione, del rapporto con i sindacati e le istituzioni. E lo può fare perchè in via Valentini, come a Lucca e Pistoia, ci sono professionalità eccezionali, persone che sanno di cosa si parla, non semplici burocrati".

Poi lo sguardo torna verso il "Palazzo": "Dobbiamo relazionarci con chi vuole e può aiutarci - spiegano ancora al Gruppo Colle - a partire da Regione e Comune, con i quali forse ci sono stati poca chiarezza e poco dialogo. Riportando l'attenzione verso il vero manifatturiero e facendo un passo indietro, tornando ad essere il distretto della produzione tessile e non solo della moda. E bisogna fare delle riflessioni anche sul distretto parallelo e sui rapporti di filiera. Quali passi avanti abbiamo fatto negli ultimi dieci anni, durante i quali abbiamo perso tante professionalità?". L'augurio è "che vengano fatte delle scelte che portino un ritorno di Confindustria verso il sindacato d'impresa. Parlare di fumi, scarichi, normative, emissioni, rifiuti può non essere bellissimo ma questi sono i nostri problemi quotidiani da affrontare, più del posizionamento di Prato nella moda mondiale. Per affrontarli ci vuole una cultura di impresa, con i giovani ma anche con i più esperti. Se ci fosse stata forse anche le vicende Buzzi e Gida sarebbero andate diversamente".

Small companies keep the fight up CARPI: PICCOLE IMPRESE COMBATTONO

In the Modena area, there are about 2,600 textile companies, 1,200 of which specializing in knitwear and fabrics and 1,400 in clothing. The production plants are located mostly in the Carpi district, made up of small-sized and micro-enterprises, scattered across the area, which specialize in knitwear and clothing. This Showcase issue’s focus is, in fact, on Carpi, which is very well-described by two local entrepreneurs: Federico Poletto, at the head of Staff Jersey, a company which was established in 2006 and produces knitwear fabrics, in addition to a line of active sport clothing under its own brand name, SkinSonic, or that of its customers; and Graziano Daviddi, the owner of DavidTex, a company started in 1981, which produces knitwear by using circular knitting machines and provides a complete subcontract service, from the analysis of the product requested to graphic and CAD design, sampling and orders.

The Carpi district’s main market is the domestic one, although many companies are seeking to expand into foreign markets lately. “Italy is an important market for us- Federico Poletto says- but also the US, Europe- in particular, France and Germany- Turkey, Korea and Japan lately”.

David-Tex’s customers are mostly Italian: “Our main market is still Carpi and, to a lesser extent, Prato, Piemonte, Bolzano, Veneto”, Daviddi says.

Carpi has changed a lot in the past few years and textile companies along with it.

“The companies that still thrive in Carpi are the ones that were able to adapt to changes. The business has changed, along with the way a new product is created- Poletto explains-. Up to fifteen years ago, we mostly worked for fashion brands, we designed a collection, the customer made some adjustments and big orders came in. Now we need to go faster and be more proactive and innovative. And our product quality has definitely increased: low-quality products cannot compete with those produced in the Far East or India”. Daviddi agrees that quality makes the difference today: “The ready-to-wear doesn’t exist anymore, big orders for large-scale retail trade are produced in countries where costs are considerably below ours. In this area, only small productions targeted at the medium-high end market survive”.

Of course, innovation and research are important in such a context. “Our efforts are mostly directed to researching into blends, yarns, processing and performances”, Poletto says.

Nella provincia di Modena sono attive circa 2.600 aziende operanti nel settore tessile, di cui 1.200 specializzate in maglieria e tessuti e 1.400 nell'abbigliamento. Queste attività produttive risultano concentrate soprattutto nel distretto di Carpi, caratterizzato dall’estrema diffusione sul territorio di piccole e microimprese, specializzate soprattutto nella maglieria e nelle confezioni.

Il focus di questo numero di Showcase va proprio su Carpi ed è fatto attraverso le parole di due imprenditori locali: Federico Poletto alla guida di Staff Jersey che, nata nel 2006, produce e vende tessuti a maglia, oltre ad una linea di capi finiti active sport sia a marchio proprio, SkinSonic, che a marchio di clienti. E Graziano Daviddi della DavidTex, nata nel 1981 con macchine circolari per maglieria esterna, garantisce un servizio completo di subfornitura che parte dall’analisi del prodotto richiesto, alla grafica e CAD al servizio di campionatura, referenze ed eventuali ordini.

Il mercato di sbocco del distretto di Carpi è ancora per molti quello domestico, anche se da parte di molte imprese sta iniziando una penetrazione anche all’estero. “L’Italia è per noi importante – commenta Federico Poletto – ma ultimamente anche Stati Uniti, Europa, soprattutto Francia e Germania, Cina, Turchia, Corea e Giappone”.

Interni per lo più i clienti di David-Tex: “Il nostro mercato rimane soprattutto quello di Carpi, un po’anche Prato, Piemonte, Bolzano, Veneto” commenta Daviddi.

Carpi è molto cambiata negli ultimi anni e con il distretto anche le imprese. “E’ rimasto attivo oggi chi è riuscito ad adeguarsi. E’ cambiato il modo di lavorare e soprattutto il modo di pensare il prodotto – spiega Poletto - Fino a 15 anni si lavorava soprattutto a marchio, si presentava una collezione che veniva un po’ aggiustata dal cliente e poi si realizzavano quantitativi importanti. Oggi è necessario essere più veloci, più propositivi, più innovativi. E di certo si è alzata la qualità del prodotto che vendiamo: chi è rimasto fermo sul basico non è competitivo con il Far East o l’India”. Anche per Daviddi la differenza oggi la fa la qualità: “Il pronto moda ormai non esiste più, i grandi ordini per la grande distribuzione vengono prodotti in altri Paesi dove i costi sono molto inferiori.

Qui in zona sono rimaste solo le piccole produzioni per un mercato medio alto”.

Ovviamente in un contesto di questo genere sono importanti innovazione e ricerca. “Il nostro impegno va soprattutto verso la

DavidTex is committed to research too, as well as to sampling “in order to provide customers with increasingly high product quality and service”.

At this point, we cannot refrain from asking the two entrepreneurs to comment on the district’s health and on its most urgent needs: “Following a natural selection, those who were able to adapt survived and are recovering. What is needed?

– Poletto says-. Well, if I’m allowed to joke about it, I’d say a magic wand! Given that this is impossible, I’ll say research and innovation and as much support as possible to the companies in this field”. However, something has been done so far, mostly by the companies themselves, and Poletto mentions the Carpi Fashion System experience: “With the financial support of Carpi’s Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio, it attracted the attention of public authorities, companies and the Chamber of Commerce”.

Daviddi has a more critical opinion: “The district’s health is very poor, there are no companies investing in the area anymore, the local government has shut training schools down and, thus, we have trouble finding workers for the machinery department. The textile machinery industry in the circular knitting field doesn’t do as much research as it used to and, consequently, it is not competitive in terms of technological updating anymore, which causes us great concern. The global economic situation is critical and prevents us from investing as we did in the past. What we really need- he says- is for the few companies that survived to come back home and produce in our area to prevent the risk of losing the expertise of the many small artisan businesses which used to work for the local textile industry”.

ricerca sulle miscele, sui filati, sulle lavorazioni e sulle performance” afferma Poletto. Impegno nella ricerca anche per DavidTex, ma anche nella campionatura “per dare alla clientela un servizio ed una qualità del prodotto sempre maggiore”.

Non può ovviamente mancare un commento degli imprenditori interpellati sulla salute del distretto e sulle sue necessità più urgenti: “Dopo un’importante selezione chi ha saputo adeguarsi ricomincia a risalire. Cosa servirebbe? – si chiede Poletto - Se mi è consentita una battuta…la bacchetta magica! Appurato che questo non è possibile, certamente tanto impegno su ricerca e innovazione e quindi quanto più possibile sostegno a questo tipo di attività che le imprese portano avanti”. Qualcosa è stato fatto, soprattutto dalle imprese stesse e Poletto richiama l’esperienza del Carpi Fashion System: “finanziato dalla Fondazione Cassa di risparmio di Carpi, ha catalizzato istituzioni, Camera di commercio, aziende”.

Più critico Daviddi: “La salute del distretto è molto critica, non ci sono più aziende che investono nel territorio, le istituzioni hanno chiuso le scuole di formazione e per questo siamo in grossa difficoltà nel formare personale nel reparto macchine. Il meccanotessile nel campo delle circolari non fa più ricerca come una volta e di conseguenza negli ultimi anni non c’è più competitività nel rinnovamento tecnologico e ci troviamo in grosse difficoltà. La situazione globale economica di crisi non aiuta il nostro settore e non ci permette di fare investimenti come abbiamo sempre fatto in passato. Sarebbe necessario – continua - che le poche aziende rimaste tornassero a produrre sul nostro territorio per non disperdere quell’esperienza che si era formata in tanti anni nelle piccole aziende artigianali le quali erano tutte al servizio del comparto tessile di zona”.

Biancalani's stand at ITMA 2019

The Age of Water BIANCALANI, BENVENUTI NELL’ETÀ DELL’ACQUA Making unique what is already an excellent finished product: this is the goal of the textile industry that is getting ready for the TexWorld Paris, Milano Unica, Première Vision and Denim Première Vision shows, with the denim market steadily growing, as anticipated by the trend forecasting agency WSGN. More and more often, designers are looking for fabrics made by using production processes that are not strictly necessary but- and this is the key to understanding the textile production of the near future- designed to create something different as far as the fabric’s appearance, handle and performance are concerned. And, thanks to water, the textile industry knows how to please fashion designers: some colors and structure features can be obtained merely by using specific washing treatments. And that’s where the textile machinery industry and Aquaria, the washing system patented by Biancalani, come into play. Aquaria converts the process from discontinuous, which is definitely more expensive, to continuous, thus ensuring repeatable results and higher production volume in order to meet the requests of all markets, and from rope to open-width. Aquaria is the first textile finishing machine to achieve all this during the washing stage. Inspired by fashion designers’ requests, ideas and dreams, Biancalani Textile Machinery created a new machine which solves production problems, while giving free rein to creativity and making possible finishing treatments never achieved before. Sempre più spesso, gli stilisti sembrano cercare tessuti realizzati con lavorazioni non strettamente necessarie ma – questa la chiave di lettura per la produzione tessile dei prossimi anni – volte a creare qualcosa di diverso da un punto di vista visivo, tattile e di performance del tessuto. E’ proprio grazie all’acqua che il settore tessile può fungere da stimolo per gli stilisti: alcuni colori e definizioni della struttura si possono ottenere solo grazie a trattamenti di lavaggio specifici.

E qui entrano in gioco il meccanotessile ed Aquaria, brevetto Biancalani, che trasferisce il processo da discontinuo, più oneroso come tempi di lavorazione, a continuo, con una maggiore garanzia di ripetibilità del risultato e la sicurezza di produzioni più alte, così da non escludere nessun mercato.

E soprattutto, passare dalla lavorazione in corda a quella in aperto. Nel panorama del finissaggio tessile non esisteva un macchinario che facesse tutto questo durante la fase di lavaggio.

Sulla base delle richieste degli stilisti, delle idee e dei sogni intercettati che Biancalani Textile Machinery ha ideato questo macchinario così nuovo che risolve le problematiche di produzione e dà il via libera all’ingegno, rendendo possibili lavorazioni mai realizzate prima.

Per la prima volta in una sola macchina, Aquaria, che che si basa sull’esperienza di Airo, lascia il discontinuo per il continuo e la lavorazione in corda per quella in aperto. Questo comporta un guadagno chiaro: niente segni, bastonature, pieghe, nessuna necessità di riaprire il tessuto.

Matters of the heart FILMAR, AFFARI DI CUORI

In a world where figures are given a lot of importance, there are still those who are able to mix business and emotions and they do it by resorting to an art form which makes use of the product they make.

We are talking about Filmar, which recently unveiled “The Colors of Gratitude”, a work of art by Stefano Bombardieri in memory of Luigi Marzoli, the yarn company’s founder. The work of art, placed in front of the company’s headquarters in Zocco d’Erbusco, is a colored tree and a tribute to the man who devoted his life to his homeland and its people: green for roots, red for strength and warmth, orange for ripe fruit and blue for the sky. Bombardieri used nearly 5,000 meters of colored rope to wrap and immortalize an old walnut-tree, which for Filmar represents a bond with the past: about twenty years ago, the company purchased a piece of land bordering on Filmar’s headquarters in order to expand the production area, but a very large walnut-tree stood on the boundary between the two properties and is still there to this day. Luigi Marzoli, in fact, always refused to have the tree cut down and even built a low wall around it to protect it. This beautiful big tree provided shade, it blossomed in the spring and produced nuts, whose delicious taste the older employees still remember. Luigi Marzoli passed away in September 2012 and the tree has never blossomed again since then. It was, of course, a pure coincidence, but the tree’s death remains symbolically associated with Luigi Marzoli’s and its flowerless branches are an invitation to stay true to the ideals on which the company was built: the respect for nature, for the land and for human capital. Filmar, in fact, has adopted a sustainability strategy which requires high ethical, social and environmental standards throughout the production chain and invests greatly in Corporate Social Responsibility in order to encourage the sustainable development of the community in which it operates. “We see the company as a living being, in need of a perfectly working body and of care, even aesthetic, in order to be presentable, and of a tangible soul through symbolic forms”, Marco and Enrico Marzoli, the owners of Filmar, conclude.

In un modo sempre più legato ai freddi numeri c’è anche chi trova spazio per unire il lavoro ai sentimenti. E lo fa affidandosi ad una forma d’arte che utilizza il prodotto del lavoro. E’ il caso di Filmar, che davanti alla sede di Zocco d’Erbusco ha inaugurato “I colori della gratitudine”, un’opera realizzata da Stefano Bombardieri per ricordare Luigi Marzoli, iniziatore dell’azienda di filati. Un albero colorato che onora l’opera di un uomo vocato ai suoi luoghi e alla sua gente: verde come le radici, rosso come la forza e il calore, arancione come la generosità di un frutto maturo e azzurro come il cielo.

Bombardieri ha impiegato quasi 5000 metri di corda colorata per avvolgere e rendere immortale un antico esemplare di noce, che per Filmar rappresenta un legame col passato: una ventina di anni fa fu acquisito il terreno adiacente alla sede per ampliare l’area produttiva e proprio sul confine si ergeva un maestoso noce che, nonostante la posizione, Luigi Marzoli non volle mai abbattere. Per salvare la pianta fece costruire un muretto, attorno al quale si organizzò il traffico. L’albero continuò a offrire ombra ai passanti, fioriture primaverili e raccolti di noci, delle quali i dipendenti più anziani ricordano ancora il sapore.

Nel settembre 2012 Luigi Marzoli se n’è andato e da allora le foglie del noce, ingiallite, non hanno più germogliato a primavera. Un caso, certo, ma la morte dell’albero è stata una congiuntura simbolica che ha commosso chi ha conosciuto Luigi Marzoli. Come una preghiera i rami del noce invocano protezione e buon auspicio a perseguire gli ideali di rispetto della natura, della terra e del capitale umano su cui da sempre si fonda l’azienda. Filmar ha adottato una strategia di sostenibilità con elevati standard etici, sociali e ambientali lungo tutta la filiera produttiva e investe nella Responsabilità Sociale d’Impresa come leva propulsiva per lo sviluppo sostenibile della comunità nella quale opera.

“Crediamo che un’azienda sia un essere vivente, bisognoso di un corpo funzionante, di cura, anche estetica, per rispondere ai canoni di presentabilità, e di un’anima tangibile attraverso forme simboliche“, dichiarano Marco ed Enrico Marzoli, titolari di Filmar.

The green year L’ANNO GREEN DI FIL-3 If there ever was an entrepreneur who had all his energies directed to issues such as trade show scheduling and planning, his name would be Giacinto Gelli, the managing director of Fil-3. Which is the reason why, following Filo’s change of date, Gelli’s opinion on the matter is quite positive: he agrees on both the new date and new venue, MiCo. “The new date is fine- he says - even with those who, like us, produce fancy yarns. The trade show will take place later than the usual date, which gives us more time to work further on our products and I believe that also the new venue will allow us to showcase our collection and meet with customers in a more constructive and comfortable way”.

2020 was supposed to mark the planet’s “green” turning point and Fil-3 has been working in this direction for some time now. “Our goal is the GOTS certification- Gelli explains – and we are also very close to getting the GRS certification, promoted by Textile Exchange, but it is not an easy road to travel, for it requires major investments in terms of money and time and there is no conformity between the various certification standards. What is more, we are still part of the 4Sustainability network by monitoring the use of chemicals in production processes and complying with the random spot checks in order to be allowed to remain within the network”.

All this while still keeping an eye on markets and sales growth: “2019- Gelli says- aligned with the 2018 results, the second half of the year being better than the first. We did well with both our winter and summer collections, despite wool’s huge price fluctuation throughout 2019. And of course we continue to work on keeping our customer service standards high, the company’s added value, in addition to research, which will allow us to introduce a number of new winter items at the Filo show”.

Se c’è un imprenditore che negli ultimi anni si è speso in prima persona su temi come le date delle fiere e delle collezioni questo è Giacinto Gelli, amministratore delegato di Fil-3, ed è per questo che all’indomani della decisione di Filo di cambiare posizionamento alla fiera il suo giudizio non può che essere positivo: apprezzato sia il calendario che il MiCo. “La data va bene – dice – anche a chi come noi fa filato fantasia. È meno anticipata rispetto alle ultime edizioni e questo ci permette di lavorare sul prodotto e mi pare che anche la nuova location ci possa permettere di esporre e incontrare i clienti in modo più costruttivo e comodo”.

Il 2020 sarebbe dovuto essere l’anno della svolta green di tutto il pianeta e su questo tema Fil-3 si sta muovendo da tempo: “Puntiamo alla certificazione GOTS – spiega Gelli – e siamo in dirittura d’arrivo per la GRS, promossa da Textile Exchange ma le strade da percorrere non sono semplici perché vengono richiesti investimenti in termini di soldi e tempo e non c’è uniformità tra i valori richiesti dalle varie certificazioni. In aggiunta a questo continuiamo a far parte di 4Sustainability monitorando la gestione delle sostanze chimiche nei processi di produzione e rispettando i controlli a campione che vengono fatti per poter rimanere all’interno del marchio”.

Il tutto senza dimenticare mercati e fatturato: “Il 2019 – dice ancora Gelli – è stato in linea con il 2018, con una seconda parte migliore della prima. Abbiamo campionato bene con l’invernale ed anche con l’estivo, nonostante i continui saliscendi nel prezzo della lana, che nel 2019 ha avuto oscillazioni enormi. Ed ovviamente continuiamo nel portare avanti il servizio ai clienti, che è il nostro valore aggiunto, oltre alla ricerca, che ci permetterà di presentare proprio a Filo un pacchetto di articoli nuovi per l’invernale”.

Tradition and innovation RIFINIZIONE VIGNALI: TRADIZIONE E INNOVAZIONE

For many years, Rifinizione Vignali has been a name associated with quality and innovation in the field of textile finishing, because of the wide range of state-of-the-art treatments it offers. Quality service has been the company’s strength for 72 years, along with the Vignali family’s uninterrupted ownership of the company. Rifinizione Vignali, in fact, began operating back in 1947, when Silvio Vignali took his first steps as entrepreneur by teaselling blankets. The years 1954-55, with Silvio’s son Ivo joining the company, marked a great turning point in the business. Rifinizione Vignali changed and expanded its production range and processing methods with a view to further industrial development. Ivo is the current president of the board of directors and the third-generation members of the family, Barbara and Silvia, have joined the company too.

Over the years, in addition to new finishing treatments of fine and innovative fabrics, in par-ticular, upholstery fabrics which had not been produced in the Prato area until then, the company became highly specialized in the finishing of acrylic carpets and faux fur coats. In more recent times, Rifinizione Vignali also specialized in the finishing of velvets and fur-nishing fabrics.

In the sixties, the company believed it was time to upgrade the entire machinery fleet and, in 1973, a new dyeing mill, Ma-Vi, was started, adding to the one operating within Rifinizione Vignali.

Then the company further expanded its activity, soon becoming well-known not only in the Prato area, but also across the country and abroad. Today, the company can count on a base of regular customers who continue to trust Vignali’s experience and rely on its inno-vative solutions. At present, Rifinizione Vignali, together with Tintoria MA-VI, employs about 100 people and is increasingly committed to research on new technologies and improve-ment of processing and service quality, with an eye to sustainability of production processes.

La Rifinizione Vignali è un nome che da anni rappresenta una garanzia nell’universo del finissaggio, garanzia di qualità, ma anche di modernità, dato che le lavorazioni che l’azienda pratese oggi offre sono ormai numerose e all’avanguardia. Proprio la qualità del servizio è il fil rouge dei 73 anni di attività.

Un altro punto fermo è la proprietà, sempre della famiglia Vignali. L'attività della Rifinizione Vignali infatti è iniziata nel 1947 quando Silvio Vignali inizia la sua attività di imprenditore artigiano occupandosi della garzatura di coperte. Negli anni ’54/’55, lo affianca il figlio Ivo che porta un vero e proprio giro di boa nell’attività imprenditoriale. Innanzitutto un ampliamento della tipologia di tessuti lavorati, in seconda battuta l’allargamento del giro di affari in un’ottica sempre più industriale. Ivo Vignali è oggi presidente del Consiglio di amministrazione, ma è affiancato dalla terza generazione, le figlie Barbara e Silvia.

Le novità nelle tipologie di lavorazioni fatte e di tessuti trattati sono soprattutto il finissaggio di tessuti pregiati e innovativi, tessuti anche rivolti al settore dell’arredamento e in questo caso si tratta di una novità per il settore pratese.

Ulteriore passaggio sono le lavorazioni di finissaggio di tappeti di acrilico e pellicce ecologiche. Più recentemente la Rifinizione Vignali si è specializzata nei velluti e tessuti da arredamento.

L’ampliamento delle lavorazioni offerte dalla Rifinizione porta ben presto, già negli anni ’60, la necessità di un imponente rinnovamento del parco macchine, nel 1973 viene addirittura fondata una nuova tintoria, la Ma-Vi, che affianca quella interna della Rifinizione Vignali. Parallelamente all’allargamento dei servizi offerti si allarga anche il mercato, i cui confini non sono più quelli del distretto, ma quelli nazionali prima e internazionali dopo. Oggi l’azienda conta un portafoglio di clienti consolidati che si fidano dell’esperienza e contano sulle innovazioni che Vignali garantisce. Attualmente la Rifinizione Vignali e la Tintoria MA-VI contano complessivamente circa 100 dipendenti. Forte è l’impegno nella ricerca di nuove tecnologie e nuovi trattamenti, nel miglioramento della qualità dei processi e dei servizi e nella sostenibilità delle lavorazioni, la Rifinizione Vignali infatti ormai da molti anni utilizza, in produzione, esclusivamente acqua proveniente dal depuratore appositamente trattata e resa idonea.

Automation and service GT2000: AUTOMAZIONE E CURA DEL CLIENTE

Walking into GT 2000’s production plant means seeing firsthand technology at the service of textile processing: tidiness and automation really stand out, as well as the workers’ safety and expertise. All the credit goes to the farsightedness of Andrea Belli, the company’s founder and managing director, who still works six days out of seven and has no intention to retire. “The changes of the past few years were fast and far-reaching-Belli says- today we need great technical expertise supported by certifications which require complex bureaucratic procedures.

Consumers and consumer associations are increasingly attentive and we have to ensure product traceability across the whole production chain, which is not always easy. What I believe is very important in order to support entrepreneurs is simplification and a uniform treatment of all the players in the sector, in addition to a clearer set of rules and fiscal system. This would definitely make the sector more attractive to foreign investors”.

Andrea Belli seems to pay no attention to his age, seventy years old, for he has just purchased a highly advanced warping machine for 700 thousand euros, which ensures lower energy consumption and waste production, is less time-consuming and can be remote-controlled.

The company was started in 1975 by Andrea and Elisabetta Belli. In 2000, GT2000 began collaborating with the Comobased company Taborelli and opened up to a new market, the Como area, which still accounts for 80% of the production of this warping mill which does not specialize in wool yarns, although it is based in Prato. GT 2000 deals with warping, yarn control, storage in an automatized and computerized warehouse.

It was also the first warping mill to use flat yarns.

As much as technical skills are important, Andrea Belli pays also great attention to the human factor, to his customers and staff members, for he strongly believes that working in harmony with others makes you work better.

Entrare nell’area produttiva della GT 2000 significa toccare con mano la migliore tecnologia al servizio della lavorazione: ordine e automazione saltano agli occhi, così come la sicurezza e la competenza degli operatori. Questo è certamente merito della lungimiranza di Andrea Belli, fondatore e amministratore delegato, in azienda sei giorni su sette e senza alcuna intenzione di diventare un ‘giovane pensionato’. “I cambiamenti negli ultimi anni sono stati molto repentini e al tempo stesso profondi – ammette Belli – oggi è necessaria una grande competenza tecnica sostenuta da certificazioni che comportano adempimenti burocratici complessi. I consumatori e le loro associazioni sono sempre più attenti e dobbiamo garantire una tracciabilità su tutta la filiera che non è sempre facile. Quello che oggi ritengo più importante per sostenere gli imprenditori sono una semplificazione ed un’uniformità di trattamento per tutti i player del settore, accanto alla chiarezza della normativa e del sistema fiscale. Tutto questo renderebbe il settore più appetibile anche per gli investitori stranieri”.

Andrea Belli non pensa ai suoi 70 anni, lo dimostra il fatto che ha appena acquistato un orditoio modernissimo per 700mila euro che garantisce una riduzione del consumo di energia e del tempo di lavoro oltre che una minore produzione di rifiuti ed una gestione anche da remoto.

L’attività è nata nel 1975 da Andrea e Elisabetta Belli, nel 2000 la GT2000 ingloba le precedenti realtà aziendali e nasce una collaborazione con il comasco Taborelli che ha aperto le porte di un nuovo mercato, quello comasco, che ancora oggi rappresenta l’80% della produzione per questa orditura che lavora un filamento non laniero, nonostante si trovi a Prato.

GT 2000 si occupa di orditura, di controllo sul filo, di stoccaggio in un magazzino automatizzato e informatizzato, tra le lavorazioni più particolari da ricordare che è stata la prima a ordire la piattina.

In tutta questa competenza tecnica, però, Andrea Belli non dimentica l’aspetto umano, l’attenzione al cliente, ma soprattutto ai propri collaboratori, perché solo chi lavora in serenità lavora bene.

The ideal partner LIDO BARNI, IL PARTNER IDEALE PER L’INDUSTRIA TESSILE In textile processing, there are details that make the difference and the Lido Barni company knows it only too well, for it has been operating in the field of textile machinery accessories in Prato since 1976.

Established by Lido Barni and currently run alongside his son Lorenzo, the company deals with the design, assembly and marketing of components and accessories for textile production and mostly at the specific request of customers. “ The fascinating aspect of this job- Lorenzo Barni, who is in charge of design, explains- is trying to solve problems arising from textile processing or make a particular production stage simpler and faster”.

At first, Lido Barni dealt with components for weaving, but later the production range was extended to include components for warping, spinning and twisting, providing on-site assistance and making pieces compatible with customers’ machinery, but mostly adapting the machinery to special production processes, inspired by the creativity of textile entrepreneurs who usually have something in mind before knowing if it can be done or not.

Realizing how to do it, with the machinery at their disposal, is the task of Lido and Lorenzo Barni and of their four employees.“Most of our customers are local- Lido Barni explainsbut following our participation in the 2017 ITMA show, we began working with foreign companies which had no trouble finding spare parts, but couldn’t find original adaptations”.

Lately, all energies have been directed to the construction of small machines preparatory to other processing stages, in order to make the process easier or ensure results otherwise unattainable. Lido Barni often works exclusively for a specific customer and is the patent holder for machines such as the so-called paraffinizer, built in 1995, which improves the smoothness of weft threads, especially when yarns tend to be very dry.

Nel processo di lavorazione tessile ci sono dettagli che fanno la differenza e l’azienda Lido Barni ne sa qualcosa, operando dal 1976 a Prato nel settore dell’accessorio per macchine tessili. Fondata da Lido Barni, che da alcuni anni è affiancato dal figlio Lorenzo, si occupa di progettazione, assemblaggio e vendita di componentistica e accessori per la produzione tessile anche e soprattutto su richiesta specifica dei clienti.

“L’aspetto affascinante di questo lavoro – spiega Lorenzo Barni, che si occupa della progettazione –è proprio cercare di risolvere problemi che sorgono nella lavorazione oppure rendere più semplice o veloce un certo passaggio”. Inizialmente la Lido Barni si è occupata di componentistica per la tessitura, ora anche per l’orditura, la filatura e la ritorcitura, garantendo assistenza in loco e realizzando pezzi compatibili con macchinari già in funzione presso i clienti, ma soprattutto adattando le macchine a lavorazioni particolari, consentendo loro di seguire la creatività degli imprenditori tessili che hanno spesso in mente il risultato ancor prima di sapere come fare a realizzarlo.

Capire come realizzarlo, partendo dal macchinario a disposizione, è spesso compito sia di Lido e Lorenzo Barni che dei loro quattro dipendenti.

“Il numero maggiore dei nostri clienti è sul territorio – spiega Lido Barni – ma dopo la nostra partecipazione a ITMA nel 2007 abbiamo avviato collaborazioni anche con imprese all’estero, che fino a quel momento avevano trovato facilmente pezzi di ricambio, ma certo non adattamenti originali”.

Ultimamente grande energia è stata impiegata per la realizzazione di piccoli macchinari di preparazione ad altre lavorazioni, per facilitare la lavorazione o garantire certi risultati che altrimenti non sarebbero raggiunti. Spesso la Lido Barni lavora in esclusiva per i clienti, in altri casi sono addirittura titolari di brevetti, come nel caso del paraffinatore, realizzato nel 1995 che ha migliorato la scorrevolezza dei fili di trama, soprattutto nel caso di filati particolarmente secchi.

Possibilità di idromassaggio, bagno turco, piscina o sauna aromaterapica. L’Armani Spa (via Manzoni 31) è nel cuore delle vie del lusso, dentro l'Armani Hotel. Si può scegliere di utilizzarla anche per mezza giornata per trattamenti su misura creati con i beauty designer. L’unico a non rilassarsi è il portafoglio visto che i prezzi sono in linea con l’offerta. L’Atomic Spa Suisse è all’interno di Palazzo Matteotti (corso Matteotti 4/6), a due passi da piazza San Babila. Il design è futuristico con bolle e riflessi a specchio. Ha una piscina e un percorso benessere con trattamenti top, viso e corpo. Piccola e riservata è la Hado, nell'hotel Cristoforo Colombo (corso Buenos Aires 3): ha cromoterapia, scrub arabo o al sapone nero nell'hammam, cascata di ghiaccio per tonificare e percorsi in coppia. Paris’ atmosphere and architecture is particularly relaxing, but the hectic trade show environment might make you long for a spa break.

Let’s start with the Hammam at the Grand Mosquée de Paris (2bis Place du Puits de l'Ermite) built in 1926. It offers traditional Byzantine treatments, from massages to black soap scrubs with an exfoliating Kessa glove. And the admission fee is quite reasonable.

The “menu” of Spa Nuxe Montorgueil (32 Rue Montorgueil) includes massages and original treatments performed by using the famous French brand’s flower, fruit, leaf and fiber- based beauty products. It is a must-go destination for those in search of relaxation and pure indulgence.

The spa is housed in a former underground cellar which served as storehouse for Europe’s largest covered market back in the days of King Louis XIV. The Spa of Hotel Roch (28 Rue Saint-Roch) is located in the luxury Faubourg SaintHonoré area. It features a heated indoor pool - a cure-all on cold February days - and new-generation treatments, such as lightening peeling and radiant eyes. Located just 40 kilometers to the north of Parc des Expositions, in Chantilly, is Auberge de Jeu de Paume (4 Rue du Connétable). Travel from the heart of the city’s trade show area to one of Europe’s most beautiful forests to enjoy veritable all-sensory experiences, such as the Chantilly cream treatment after the gommage. Because of the price and beautiful atmosphere, we suggest to allow yourself the pleasure of a not too short stay.

Nuxe - Paris

molto vicino alla Stazione Centrale. Ambiente lussuoso e con una illuminazione particolare, giochi d’acqua e vetrate che fanno filtrare la luce naturale. Parigi già di per sé si presta, per atmosfera e architettura, ad un relax fisico e “spirituale” ma la frenesia degli affari in fiera arriva anche nella Ville Lumière e quindi perché non cercare un bel centro benessere? Il punto di partenza viene offerto dalla storia: il bagno turco della Grande Moschea di Parigi (2bis place du Puits de l'Ermite) costruito nel 1926. Propone trattamenti che rispettano le regole della tradizione bizantina, dai massaggi, allo scrub con sapone nero e guanto ruvido.

Ed il prezzo di ingresso non è proibitivo. Alla Spa Nuxe Montorgueil (32 rue Montorgueil) ha nel “menu” massaggi, cure originali con i prodotti della marca di farmacia a base di fiori, frutta, foglie e fibre. E’ tra le mete più ambite di Parigi per chi cerca relax e piacere. Il tutto in una ex cantina dove venivano stoccate le merci del più grande mercato coperto d’Europa, al tempo di re Luigi XIV. Zona più lussuosa, ovvero al Faubourg Saint-Honoré, per la Spa dell’Hotel Roch (28 Rue Saint-Roch), con una piscina riscaldata che nel febbraio parigino può essere un toccasana. Ma ci sono anche trattamenti di ultima generazione, come il lightening peeling o il radiant eyes. Chiusura di tour a meno di 40 chilometri a nord del Parc des Expositions, ovvero a Chantilly, dove si trova l’Auberge de Jeu de Paume (4 Rue du Connétable). Si passa dalla zona fieristica al cuore di una delle più belle foreste d’Europa per trovare trattamenti che esaltano tutti i sensi, basti pensare a quello con la crema Chantilly, appunto, spalmata sulla pelle appena ultimato il gommage. Costo e ambiente suggeriscono una sosta non proprio breve.
