Sincerity and intellectual candour are some of the many facets of the eclectic personality of Michele Bönan. Despite his Mittleuropean origins, he loves Florence and considers it to be his city, and is always ready to engage with its historic legacy.

From his studio in Lungarno Guicciardini, Bönan has always managed to create an unmistakable impression, as demonstrated by his style in projects everywhere from Hong Kong to New York, from Paris to Doha. His residences, not the least of which are his hotels, have set the standard. These include the Heidelberg Suites in Germany, the sophisticated J.K. Place in Capri, and the latest addition to the luxury goods house of Ferragamo, the Portrait Milano, not just a hotel but a crossroads of style and taste in the heart of Milan’s fashion district, the Quadrilatero della Moda.

I am working together with Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada to create, in Forte dei Marmi, the Bar Principe. It’s a location conceived of as an extension, in Forte dei Marmi, of the Pasticceria Marchesi in Milan, which is owned by the Prada group. At least for this year, it will be open in June as a pop up next to the Prada boutique. Also coming out, around the same time, is my second book, Michele Bönan Signature Details, published by Assouline.

Timeless. Sono oggetti che non hanno scadenza, utili, interessanti e non legati a una moda. Rappresentano la summa del mio lifestyle fatto di coerenza legata alla funzionalità, armonia e un pizzico di ironia.

Il lavoro con Patrizio Bertelli e Miuccia Prada per realizzare insieme, a Forte dei Marmi, il Bar Principe, un indirizzo pensato come estensione fortemarmìna della Pasticceria Marchesi di Milano, proprietà del gruppo Prada. Returning to your collection, let’s talk about an iconic piece: the Saddle Chair.

It has this name because it resembles a saddle. It’s made of two types of leather, with pigskin on the outside and calfskin on the inside.

It’s also a very complex object to make, between the raw materials and manual processing. It takes a crazy amount work to produce.

Ha questo nome perché ricorda una sella, è fatta con due tipi di pelle, cinghiale fuori e vitello all’interno.

É un pezzo che ho creato una quindicinina d’anni fa mentre facevo il J.K. a Capri. Racconta la mia grande passione per l’equitazione.

É un oggetto molto complesso da realizzare, tra materie prime e lavorazione manuale. Per averla serve un lavoro folle.
