SocialMedia forESSA Lola Olson
Overall Social Media Goals Introduction This report will contain the approaches and strategies Find Invest Grow (FIG) should implement in order to make the most use out of social media for the RBS Enterprising Student Society Accreditation (ESSA) contest.
ESSA’s Social Media Goals ESSA is utilising social media for these specific purposes. • • • • •
Increase the amount of student societies that ESSA accredits. Increase the number of participants in the ESSA contest. Spread awareness of the ESSA contest. Promote the accredited student societies and their social media. Provide another customer service point of contact for participants, clients, and others.
Social Media Plan First Stage – Setting the Stage Normally I approach social media accounts with the assumption that I’ll be acquisitioning an account that is already in its active stages of promotion. In this instance, we’re creating momentum for the next ESSA awards and therefore there are several steps we can take before we get into heavy promotion or marketing to ensure success. These goals will hopefully be achieved between August-November, just before we begin to push the contest before the holidays. • • • •

Create lists of all universities and their main social media accounts. Create lists of all previously participating student societies and their social media accounts. Create lists or include in the first mentioned lists all university student unions and their social media accounts. Create a list of all accredited societies and their social media accounts and contact them to see: if they plan on getting any social media accounts, if they plan on entering the awards, if they would agree to spread the word. Establish social media/email connections with the career centres of all universities. Create a list of the media departments of all universities. Establish a connection with RBS Group and any sponsor to see if they will make social media connections at integral points (pre-holiday push, halfway until the contest deadline, a month before the deadline, a week before the deadline, etc.) Find out what connections with have with universities and ask through those connections if they would agree to endorse the contests on social media channels. Get in touch with student societies that have been accredited and entered and see if they plan on holding any events for all of their students at their uni they’d be willing to let us attend so that we can promote ESSA.
Creating these lists and establishing early connections will make it easier to monitor contact. Creating lists for these contact allows us to get the universities involved, even if they feel reluctant to do so. It also gives us some sort of connection if the society has no other social media connection or if it’s a closed connection
