One of the best parts of my job as governor is getting to tell people about all the things that make Minnesota great. Our state consistently ranks as one of the best places to live, work, raise a family, and retire. By investing in education, health care, and our economy, we’ve built a state that’s hard to beat. Whether you’re looking to visit or settle down, it’s not hard to see why Minnesotans love their state.
Minnesota is known for its vibrant music, art, and food scene (which earned us 11 James Beard nominations this year!)—each of which reflects our passions and diversity. Talented chefs and restaurant owners are pouring their passion into a world-class culinary community. There are always opportunities to see a music or theater performance at one of the many venues across the Twin Cities or enjoy other creative works at our state’s many museums, studios, and gardens.
Minnesota’s vast wilderness and outdoor opportunities are reason enough to visit during any one of our four stunning seasons. Our extensive park systems are a testament to our commitment to preserving our natural resources. You already know about the Boundary Waters, but right in the heart of the Twin Cities, you can run around the Chain of Lakes or stroll along the mighty Mississippi River. With 64 state parks and nine recreation areas, Minnesota is full of fun and beautiful places to explore.
We’re also home to one of the biggest and best state fairs in the country. Every year, hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans come out for the “Great Minnesota Get-Together” to celebrate the uniqueness of our state—from the iconic Pronto Pup to award-winning crop art.
Our blend of natural beauty, cultural vibrancy, and forward-thinking initiatives offers opportunities for everyone. We look forward to welcoming you to the great state of Minnesota.
Sincerely,
Gov. Tim Walz
When you think of Minnesota, images of snowy winters, 10,000-plus lakes, and the legendary “Minnesota Nice” stereotype (which just so happens to be true!) might come to mind—but the Twin Cities region offers so much more. Separated by the mighty Mississippi but united in spirit, Minneapolis and St. Paul boast the best of both worlds—embracing history, culture, and a shared identity that welcomes people from all walks of life.
In the capital city of St. Paul, you’ll find historic streets and iconic landmarks that tell fascinating tales of the fur trade and Prohibition-era escapades. And just a stone’s throw away, Minneapolis provides a more energetic, youthful atmosphere with its trendy neighborhoods, thriving arts scene, and 22 picturesque lakes.
No matter which side of the river you land on, there are countless opportunities to embrace everything the Twin Cities has to offer. Whether savoring a meal at one of our world-class restaurants, catching a game from one of our professional sports teams, or exploring the scenic beauty of our vast park system, there’s no shortage of ways to make the Twin Cities region feel like home.
We honor and acknowledge that Minnesota is the homelands of the Anishinaabe and Dakota peoples, and we present the contents of this publication with gratitude and recognition of the peoples who have stewarded this land for generations and their ongoing contributions to this region and beyond.
Minneapolis and St. Paul boast their own unique histories that have shaped the dynamic Twin Cities of today. Once the flour milling capital of the world, Minneapolis earned its “Mill City” nickname when its mills fueled a booming population and played a vital role in feeding the nation— especially during World War I, when locally milled flour
supplied millions of residents. Meanwhile, St. Paul thrived as a key hub for transportation, trade, and even Prohibition-era bootlegging. The two cities became more closely connected in 1968 with the completion of an interstate linking them, paving the way for continued growth and transformation into the vibrant metro area locals know and love.
When choosing a place to call home, cost of living plays a key role in shaping your budget and lifestyle. Fortunately, moving to the Twin Cities comes with a pleasant financial perk—your dollar stretches further here. With a cost of living around 6% below the national average and housing prices roughly 14% lower, the metro provides affordability without sacrificing quality of life. Here’s a closer look at some average costs and everyday expenses to help make your move seamless.
Land of 10,000 Lakes
The name “Minnesota” comes from the Dakota phrase Mni Sota Makoce, meaning “land where the waters reflect the clouds”—a fitting name for a state where lakes and rivers are always within reach. In the Twin Cities, outdoor enthusiasts take full advantage of the water year-round. In Minneapolis, the Chain of Lakes— comprised of Brownie Lake, Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles, Bde Maka Ska, and Lake Harriet—buzzes with summer activity, from kayaking and paddleboarding to lakeside strolls and beach lounging. When winter arrives, the frozen lakes transform into prime spots for ice skating and fishing. Across the river, St. Paul’s true gem is the Mississippi, with 26 miles of scenic shoreline perfect for hiking, biking, and running with a view.

But what truly sets the Twin Cities apart is the deep appreciation for the outdoors, with parks, lakes, and green spaces woven seamlessly into everyday life.

With a booming retail scene and convenient proximity to both Minneapolis and St. Paul, it’s no surprise that Bloomington—the fifth-largest city in Minnesota—boasts such a diverse population. Located just 10 minutes south of Minneapolis and surrounded by fellow suburbs Burnsville and Edina, Bloomington offers a healthy balance of fastpaced city life and more laid-back suburban living that draws residents ranging from first-time homeowners and young families to older folks looking for a place to retreat to in their later years.
The city is most well-known for the iconic Mall of America, a four-story shopping mecca complete with an indoor amusement park, aquarium, movie theater, and even more specialty attractions. With more than 520 retail stores and 60-plus restaurants, there’s something for everyone to enjoy—whether you’re looking for a shopping spree with friends, family-friendly activities to do with the kiddos (check out the new CoComelon Playdate attraction or the colorful Crayola Experience), or a romantic date night (we recommend sharing drinks and an appetizer
at the FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar before catching the latest movie at B&B Theatres).
While the mall itself offers countless dining choices within its 129 acres, another option is Hazelwood Food + Drink, which serves up modern cuisine right across the street. Other favorite local eateries include Ciao Bella for its fresh Italian fare and upscale ambience, Grand Szechuan Restaurant for its authentic Sichuan dishes, and Mandarin Kitchen, which hosts a can’t-miss dim sum experience on the weekends.
Although Bloomington might be known for its shopping scene, it’s also home to nearly 100 parks and green spaces, including the scenic Hyland Lake Park Reserve and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge , where guests can explore 14,000 acres of protected natural habitats along with visitor centers, hunting and fishing opportunities, and more than 45 miles of trails. Hyland Hills Ski Area —a popular venue for downhill skiing and snowboarding—is an ideal destination for a winter excursion, while the picturesque Japanese Garden at Normandale Community College provides a peaceful escape during the warmer months.
Bloomington is also home to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, consistently named the best in North America by Airports Council International, making travel plans easier than ever. And with the Twin Cities just a short light rail ride away, you’ll find you’re just close enough to enjoy the downtown action (or an easy work commute!) without sacrificing your need for space, nature, or a sense of community. With local events, cultural attractions, and more, it’s easy to see why so many choose to call Bloomington home.
Featuring modern conveniences and a close-knit feel, Eden Prairie is just a short drive from the Twin Cities and offers attractive residential neighborhoods, nearly 10,000 acres of land designated for parks and open spaces, and plenty of places to shop and dine. One can’t-miss spot is Asia Mall, a bustling pan-Asian center with several eateries and shops along with a huge grocery selection. As for the outdoors, Round Lake Park and Beach provides places to play for big and little kids alike, while the Richard T. Anderson Conservation Area and Minnesota River Bluffs LRT Regional Trail both offer numerous recreational areas, making the city an ideal choice for those looking for indoor entertainment and outdoor activity.
Thanks to its strategic location, gorgeous trail systems, and bustling shopping districts, the scenic city of Maple Grove has become one of the fastest-growing communities in the state. Located close enough to the Twin Cities to enjoy fun outings or a short work commute, the northwest suburb is an ideal place for both families and young professionals to live.
A nature lover’s dream, the city offers plenty of parks, trails, and lakes to explore. Fish Lake Regional Park is a beloved summer locale for hiking, biking, fishing, or picnicking, while during the
winter, you can experience Central Park ’s iceskating loop or find cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and tubing a short drive away at Elm Creek Park Reserve. If you have little ones, they’ll love exploring the Maple Maze at the community center, which also plays host to a popular yearround farmer’s market during the colder months.
If you’re looking for indoor recreation, Enigma Adventures: Escape Room Games is an intriguing option for group entertainment, while Pints & Paddle offers 10 pickleball courts and 70-plus self-pour taps for the adults. Children of all ages
will love bouncing around at Sky Zone Trampoline Park , while older kids are sure to enjoy ProKART Indoor Racing, which features a thrilling go-kart experience for ages 12-plus.
With nearly 150 restaurants ranging from locally owned and operated eateries to tried-and-true chains, there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes in town. At Main Street’s “Restaurant Row,” you’ll fi nd made-from-scratch flavors at 3 Squares, hand-cut steaks at Pittsburgh Blue Steakhouse, and colorful drinks and sizzling fajitas at Riveria Maya Cantina & Restaurant
Maple Grove also boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene with numerous art galleries, theaters, and live music venues, and is home to more retail than any other city (excluding Bloomington, home to the Mall of America) in the state. Visit
The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes—one of the Twin Cities’ largest shopping centers—to spruce up your space with goods from Pottery Barn, indulge in a relaxing spa treatment at the Woodhouse Spa, or enjoy a coffee while the kids play at MiniSota Play Cafe —the only indoor play space in Minnesota that includes a cafe for parents and guardians.
With easy access to downtown Minneapolis and its big-city amenities—as well as abundant parks, trails, shopping, dining, and entertainment options right at your doorstep—you can experience the best of both worlds in the beautiful and well-rounded city of Maple Grove.
A popular suburb located just 10 minutes west of downtown Minneapolis, St. Louis Park offers residents a short commute to the Twin Cities, as well as an abundance of trails and green spaces. If you’re looking to spend a day on the trails, check out the paved 4.5-mile Cedar Lake Regional Trail or the Westwood Hills Nature Center. Retail enthusiasts won’t want to miss The Shops at West End or Excelsior and Grand—both shopping and entertainment hubs perfect for brunches, boutiques, and nightlife spots. St. Louis Park also hosts plenty of annual festivals and events, ranging from the Twin Cities Film Fest to the colorful MinnesoThai Street Food Festival.
Downtown East, once primarily a business district, has transformed into one of Minneapolis’ most dynamic residential and entertainment hubs. With a growing selection of restaurants, venues, and modern apartments and condos, it’s no surprise young families and professionals are flocking to this bustling area.
At the heart of this lively neighborhood is U.S. Bank Stadium , which opened in 2016 on
the former site of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Dubbed “The People’s Stadium” by former Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, the facility plays host to a plethora of concerts, festivals, conventions, and, of course, serves as the home of the Minnesota Vikings. Just down the road, The Armory, a historic venue famously featured in Prince’s “1999” music video, offers an intimate, yet electric setting for live music and events.
For a more refined entertainment experience, head to the Guthrie Theater, a landmark on the banks of the Mississippi. The Guthrie stages both classic and contemporary performances and is as much an architectural marvel as it is a cultural institution. Don’t miss the 178-foot cantilever known as the “Endless Bridge,” a prime spot for skyline views, or the iconic “Amber Room,” where Minneapolis cityscapes are illuminated by a golden glow.
Market, held every Saturday from May through October.
Nature lovers will appreciate Gold Medal Park , a scenic 7.4-acre green space boasting beautiful views of the Mississippi River and Minneapolis skyline. From there, walk or bike along West River Parkway to the Stone Arch Bridge, one of the city’s most Instagrammable landmarks.
Once known as the “Flour Milling Capital of the World,” Minneapolis’ Mill District is rich with history. Built into the ruins of the Washburn A Mill, the Mill City Museum takes visitors on an immersive journey through the district’s milling past with its eight-story Flour Tower exhibit. For the more artistic-minded, Gamut Gallery is home to a diverse collection of artworks—from paintings and photography to sculpture and mixed media. Then, fi nd your literary escape at Open Book , an all-encompassing literary center housing The Shop at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA), Milkweed Books, and FRGMNT coffee shop.
Whether looking for fast-casual bites or an award-winning dining experience, Downtown East and the nearby Mill District have plenty to offer. For some of the best Argentinianinspired cuisine and pizza in the city, check out Boludo , located just a few blocks away from the stadium. Craving even more global flavors? Sawatdee, Chloe by Vincent , Kindee Thai , and Zen Box Izakaya are serving Thai, French, and Japanese fare, respectively. Beloved restaurants like EaTo and Owamni offer an upscale dining experience, while Crooked Pint Ale House and Bar Zia are known for their good ol’ American grub. But for a true farm-totable meal, look no further than Farmer’s Kitchen + Bar, owned and operated by local farmers of the Minnesota Farmers Union. For even more locally sourced ingredients, visit the Mill City Farmers
One of the many reasons Downtown East and the Mill District are so sought-after is their high levels of walkability. However, they are also well-connected via the METRO Green and Blue Lines , which run directly through the area. Some nearby schools include Twin Cities International Schools , DeLaSalle High School , and Hope Academy.
Just a stone’s throw from Downtown East and the Mill District, the North Loop is a mecca for world-class entertainment, dining, shopping, and living. Known for its lively, walkable atmosphere, the neighborhood blends history with contemporary style. In fact, much of its charm comes from its storied past, with many businesses and residences taking root within old warehouses and factories. Whether grabbing a coffee on the fi rst fl oor of the fully renovated Duffey Paper warehouse or enjoying a fi ne-dining experience in what was once a horse stable, the North Loop offers a mix of past and present—making it one of Minneapolis’ most compelling urban neighborhoods.
Minnesota’s 13th-largest city with a population just shy of 70,000, Eagan is the sort of destination that knows exactly how to surprise you—a place where quiet nature trails wind through bustling shopping districts, where a history of farmland has evolved into a growing community, and where catching an NFL practice session is just another casual day in town. Once known for its endless fields of onions, Eagan is now one of the Twin Cities’ most livable and sought-after suburbs—from its schools and shopping to its neighborhoods and nature.
Lebanon Hills Regional Park—2,000 acres of pure Minnesota beauty with crystal-clear lakes, 35 miles of wooded trails, and campsites—is an absolute dream, perfect for hiking under golden autumn leaves or cross-country skiing across a winter wonderland. Caponi Art Park , a 60-acre woodland sculpture park with over 30 art installations and an outdoor amphitheater, is another major draw for residents.
If you prefer a more structured outdoor adventure, Cascade Bay Waterpark—one of the largest outdoor municipal water parks in the Upper
Midwest—is an action-packed summer hot spot, where families can float the lazy river, conquer water slides, or challenge each other to a game of miniature golf.
Eagan also boasts the Viking Lakes complex, home to the Minnesota Vikings’ training facility. This state-of-the-art development is more than just a football hub—it plays host to festivals, wellness events, and even outdoor ice skating in the winter. (Sports fans might even catch a glimpse of the purple and gold in action during training camp in the summer months!)
Three school districts—totaling six high schools, 11 middle schools, 30-plus elementary schools, plus several private and alternative education institutions—serve families across the city.
Prefer fashion over football? Shopping enthusiasts will fi nd their home away from home at Twin Cities Premium Outlets , where scoring daily deals on designer brands is the norm. Meanwhile, foodies will fi nd something sweet, spicy, and savory to relish at Eagan’s many high-end restaurants and casual eateries. Locals often ogle over tasty stops like Doolittles Woodfire Grill and Mason Jar Kitchen & Bar, but if craft beer is more your style, Bald Man Brewing Co. serves up live music alongside its lineup of locally brewed beers. Through its school systems and community programs that place a strong emphasis on providing quality educational opportunities for learners of all ages, Eagan’s commitment to education is evident.
In Eagan, there’s always something happening. With its proximity to the Mall of America , Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport , and the Twin Cities, Eagan isn’t just a great place to visit—it’s a place where you can belong, feel connected, and truly enjoy everyday life.
With its peaceful vibe, quiet residential streets, lush green spaces, and strong sense of community, Mendota Heights— adjacent to Eagan and overlooking the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers—is far from just a sleepy suburb. In fact, the 11,000-plus person town with about 750 businesses, 295 acres of parkland, and 17 public parks is proof that sometimes the best places feel like well-kept secrets. Here, nature and city life converge for the charm of a small town with the perks of the city—promising everything a young, growing family or busy, always-hustling professional could need in a community they call home.
Conveniently positioned on the border of St. Paul and Minneapolis, St. Anthony Park is a growing, up-and-coming neighborhood that blends big-city amenities with small-town charm. Perfect for families, students, and creatives, this hidden gem of the Twin Cities offers a vibrant arts scene, walkable streets, and easy access to both downtowns.
At the heart of this artsy neighborhood is University Avenue, where Highway 280 and Interstate 94 intersect. The METRO Green Line runs directly through, making the commute between
Minneapolis and St. Paul seamless. This is an attractive feature for young professionals and students at the University of Minnesota, especially.
The south side of the neighborhood occupies the Creative Enterprise Zone, a city-recognized district and nonprofit dedicated to supporting local artists in the neighborhood’s thriving arts community. Around nearly every corner, colorful murals and public art installations bring the streets to life. One of the zone’s major events is the Chroma Zone Mural & Art Festival, which showcases a variety of work from local, national, and
international artists. Some other seasonal events include the MidCity Farmers Market , held on Wednesdays from June through October, and The Black Market , which takes place the second Saturday of every month from February to December.
With a highly walkable layout, St. Anthony Park is packed with coffee shops, trendy boutiques, and dining destinations. Start your day with a bold brew from Workhorse Coffee Bar, Dogwood Coffee, or Roundtable Coffee Works before stopping into Shag Studio for a look at some unique vintage finds—plus a fresh haircut! Breakfast is best at Keys Cafe, Hey Bear, Finnish Bistro Coffee & Cafe, and Colossal Cafe, while “Mom and Pop” shop Caffe Biaggio is the perfect cozy spot for Italian cuisine. For something fresh
and local, Herbst Eatery & Farm Stand is a mustvisit, and across the street, Spicy Feta dishes up authentic Mediterranean street food.
Beer enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy with Dual Citizen Brewing Co. , Lake Monster Brewing , Bang Brewing Co. , and Urban Growler Brewing Co. making up the neighborhood’s bustling brewery scene. If you’re looking for an Irish pub experience, The Dubliner Pub and Cafe is another hometown favorite. But when taprooms close, Sharrett’s Liquors is the go-to for craft brews, wine, and spirits.
Looking for entertainment? Can Can Wonderland offers fun for the whole family, with miniature golf, arcade games, and live performances. For the outdoorsy folk, the neighborhood also boasts several parks, including Hampden Park, Commonwealth Park, and Alden Square Park. Meanwhile, the St. Anthony Park Community Garden provides a lush green space between the railroad and residential areas.
Part of the St. Paul Public School District, the neighborhood is home to St. Anthony Park Elementary and Murray Junior High School, with Central High School and Como Park High School close by.
One of St. Paul’s oldest neighborhoods, West 7th has transformed its historic warehouses and storefronts into a bustling hub for dining, shopping, and entertainment. The area boasts renowned restaurants, cozy coffee shops, and some of the Twin Cities’ best breweries, making it a prime destination for locals and visitors alike. Home to a variety of apartments, condos, and other housing options, it’s the perfect place to live, work, and play. Stroll along West 7th Street to explore vintage shops, art galleries, and specialty boutiques. Then, head down to the Mississippi to take in the neighborhood’s rich history and scenic beauty.
Imagine turning your weekend getaway into your everyday—where historic streets, river views, and front-porch kind of living aren’t just for special occasions, they’re part of your daily routine. That’s life in Stillwater—a storybook river town perched along the scenic bluffs of the St. Croix River.
Known as the “Birthplace of Minnesota” with a population of just over 19,000, Stillwater is where dreamers settle, doers stay, and community roots run deep—hailing back to the 19th century when its lumber industry made it one
of the busiest boomtowns in the Midwest. Today, history and modern life live side by side, making Stillwater—nestled about 30 minutes east of the Twin Cities—a place that welcomes residents of all ages and interests year-round.
Nowhere is that more evident than the popular downtown area—where Victorian architecture meets local life. Here, you’ll find 50 locally owned and operated boutiques, art galleries, specialty shops, and more. Whether hunting for home goods or catching live music on a sunny patio, Main Street offers spontaneous stops and slow strolls.
But perhaps Stillwater is best experienced at this unhurried pace—especially along the river. In fact, the St. Croix is the lifeblood of this magical little city. If you’re craving more than a quiet view from the shore, the river invites activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, scenic riverboat cruises, and more, while the nearby bluffs and wooded trails are perfect for hiking, biking, or simply soaking up those signature Midwest sunsets.
When these landscapes change with the seasons, Stillwater shows off. Winter brings twinkling lights and ice castles, while spring and summer burst with farmers markets, festivals, and riverfront fun. In the fall, the whole town glows with color—almost like living inside a postcard—and an abundance of seasonal farms (we love Aamodt’s Apple Farm !) makes for the perfect daytime outing for families.
And while Stillwater is beloved for its beauty,
what makes people stay runs much deeper—from its highly regarded schools to its exceptional restaurant scene and beyond. In fact, education is a cornerstone of this community, so after picking up the kids from class, grab a scoop at MN Nice Cream or a dose of sugary goodness at Blue Sun Soda Shop or Candyland. Planning a mom’s night out or needing to unwind after a long workday? Sip a craft cocktail at Papa’s Rooftop Eatery while the sun melts into the river, book an outing at Rustic Roots Winery, or sit down for Hawaiianinspired small plates, bowls, burgers, and more at The Tilted Tiki Tropical Bar & Restaurant
It’s these small, yet special moments— whether spent with family or friends—that make Stillwater feel like the ultimate getaway … until it starts to feel like home.
Just a short drive from the Twin Cities, Chaska is best known for its friendly atmosphere, outdoor fun, and—if you’re a golf fan—the legendary Hazeltine National Golf Club, which has hosted some of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments. Chaska’s heart beats strongest in its lively downtown, where community events bring neighbors together, and the Chaska Curling Center keeps the winter spirit alive. Whether you’re exploring the trails of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, catching a concert at City Square Park, or warming up with a hometown brew, Chaska is a place where simple moments make for the perfect home.
St. Michael-Albertville Public School District, is known for its parks and family appeal, while Rogers boasts big-box convenience, scenic trails, and local favorites like Maynard’s. Dayton offers riverside living and access to Elm Creek Park Reserve, with schools in the Anoka-Hennepin or Osseo districts. Corcoran retains a rural feel with rolling farmland, Lions Park, and school options including Wayzata and Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose.
The metro area is expected to see a ‘rural renaissance’ as Twin Cities residents move away from the inner suburbs and out to wide open spaces
As the Twin Cities continues to grow steadily, so does the number of people seeking just a bit more space. An increasing number of young families, retirees, and professionals with remote jobs are searching for a slower pace of life, larger lots, or the draw of nature and community. These Minnesotans are moving beyond Minneapolis and St. Paul to outer suburbs and nearby rural towns.
According to an Axios report this year, cities like Dayton, Carver, and Corcoran are among the fastestgrowing towns in the state. These once-sleepy towns are booming with new construction, driven by a desire for newer homes, lower density, and a lifestyle that’s still close to the action without being right in the middle of it.
Housing First Minnesota, the leading trade association for the state’s housing industry, confirms this
growing trend, which is predicted to continue over the next 20 years. The organization oversees the Keystone Report program, which collects and interprets data related to housing—and last year, half the top 10 cities by permitting were these outer suburbs (also known as “exurbs”) with rural charm.
“A lot of these cities have seen high growth for at least two or three years,” says Kristen Crossman, media relations manager for Housing First Minnesota. “There is a clear trend of construction activity being focused far out from the core metro area, getting into the exurbs of the Twin Cities.”
St. Michael, Rogers, Dayton, and Corcoran are fast-growing northwest suburbs along the road that connects Minneapolis and St. Cloud. St. Michael, in the highly ranked
Washington County, which includes Cottage Grove and stretches up to Marine on St. Croix, saw a 7.7% increase in total closed sales over the last two years. Marine on St. Croix is already popular for day-cations from the city because of its artsy, off-the-grid feel. Located along the St. Croix River, it features a general store, vintage town hall, and access to William O’Brien State Park. On the southern end of Washington County, Cottage Grove is home to nearly 2,000 acres of parkland, including Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park. The South Washington County School District (ISD 833) boasts Grey Cloud Elementary, recognized as a Blue Ribbon School in 2020.
North of Lake Minnetonka, Medina offers rural tranquility and refi ned living. Home to expansive lots and upscale developments, it’s served by Wayzata Public Schools, one of the top districts in the state. To the west of Medina, Minnetrista residents enjoy proximity to Lake Minnetonka, Halstead’s Bay, and Gale Woods Farm. And to the south, Waconia is perched on the lake of the same name. The Waconia School District is highly rated, and the historic downtown is home to locally loved spots like Mocha Monkey and Schram Vineyards.
Amenity-rich apartments and condos blend home, wellness, and community
From upscale high-rises to charming condos, urban living in the Twin Cities offers a range of price points and atmospheres to fit every lifestyle. With the bustling downtown areas and vibrant neighborhoods, it’s easy to see why Twin Cities residents are flocking to the urban centers of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
For those seeking an elevated lifestyle, luxury apartments are a popular option. When exploring high-end living in the Twin Cities, it’s important to consider the key amenities and standout features of a property. Take The Larking, for example. Nestled in the East Town neighborhood of downtown Minneapolis, this complex boasts skyline views, a rooftop pool, and fi tness
center. Meanwhile, the North Loop—one of Minneapolis’ trendiest and fastest-growing neighborhoods—is home to several upscale apartment communities, including The Duffey, Borealis Apartments, and, of course, the new North Loop Green 360 within Minneapolis’ new
HOUSING TREND:
We’re seeing an increasing number of mixed-use developments popping up throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding suburbs—but what are they, exactly? These new developments serve multiple purposes—allowing people to live, work, and play, all in one place. North Loop Green in Minneapolis is a prime example of this concept in action, with residential units, of ces, and community spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy. Some other notable mixed-use developments include CityPlace in Woodbury and Highland Bridge in St. Paul, with new communities continuing to appear throughout the metro.

Nearby in the Crocus Hill neighborhood of St. Paul, the Oxford Hill Condominiums offers a more laid-back lifestyle while remaining convenient to Grand Avenue and surrounding areas. The Twin Cities offers a range of temporary housing solutions. If you need a place for just a night or two, local hotels are the easiest option. For longer trips, extended-stay hotels offer extra space and amenities, making them the most comfortable and cost-effective choice. Many feature studio-style layouts or larger one- and two-bedroom suites—perfect for settling in with ease. And don’t forget to check pet policies if you’re bringing a furry friend along!
At budget-friendly extended-stay hotels, you can expect basics like internet, TV, and comfortable lodging. Mid-range options might include additional perks such as continental breakfasts, fitness centers, and in-room kitchenettes or full kitchens. For a high-end experience, luxury extended-stay hotels often provide full breakfast spreads, 24-hour concierge services, business centers, and even grocery delivery.
Temporary housing can come furnished or unfurnished, depending on your needs. If you prefer a turnkey solution, fully furnished rentals eliminate the hassle of moving furniture twice. Or, if you’d rather customize your space, rental furniture companies offer flexible solutions—whether you only need a single piece or an entire home’s worth of furnishings.
CORT Furniture allows customers to shop online or in-store, with delivery and assembly completed within 48 hours. Quality Furniture Rental offers similar services, including a showroom and online purchasing, with weekday next-day delivery available. When it’s time to move on, both companies will pick up the furniture—making the process simple and seamless.
TPI Hospitality, one of Minnesota’s largest and most respected hospitality companies, has been in business for over 80 years, offering more than 30 hotels—including extended-stay options—throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. The team simplifi es the search by helping you explore multiple options from a single source.
For those seeking high-end temporary housing, Corporate Housing Co. provides luxury accommodations, from downtown high-rises to scenic lakeside homes. The company’s dedicated staff is available 24/7 to assist with questions and concerns. Similarly, Minnestay offers a wide range of upscale short- and long-term rentals that caters to families, business travelers, and those considering a permanent move to the area.
This up-and-coming housing option offers the benefts of both renting and buying property
As housing prices continue to rise, many residents are exploring alternative living arrangements that offer affordability, security, and community. One increasingly popular option is cooperative housing (commonly known as co-op housing). But you might be wondering, what is a co-op? How do they work? Where can I find co-op housing options in the Twin Cities?
Put simply, buying into a co-op means buying shares in the corporation that owns the property. In exchange, members are granted the right to occupy a single unit while also having a voice in the management of the living community.
Co-ops come in several different forms, including apartments, townhouses, duplexes, and multifamily
homes—offering flexibility based on location and lifestyle preferences. Typically, they are managed by a board of directors elected by the shareholders, much like a homeowners’ association.
With this structure, each member has a vote in key decisions such as electing board members, setting policies, and approving budgets—ensuring residents have direct input into their living environment rather than being subject to the decisions of a landlord.
Instead of paying traditional rent, members pay what is known as a monthly “carrying charge,” which covers costs of running the co-op, including mortgage payments, maintenance, and utilities. This shared responsibility fosters a collaborative atmosphere and strong sense of community among residents.

Home to a thriving job market with numerous Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders in health care, technology, finance, design, publishing, and more, this region fosters innovation and growth at every turn.
Minnesotans are known for their deeprooted generosity, and the Twin Cities’ strong philanthropic culture reflects that. Year after year, Minnesota ranks among the most charitable states, thanks to its active nonprofit sector and dedicated volunteers. That same commitment to care is evident in the cities’ world-class health care institutions, where hospitals and clinics ensure every patient receives top-tier treatment.
There is a strong emphasis placed on the well-being of the next generation, too. With a diverse range of public, private, charter, and online school programs, Minnesota’s education system promotes critical thinking, as well as personal and professional skills, to ensure every student is equipped with the tools they need to succeed in whichever field they pursue.
With several Fortune 500 companies, widespread professional networks, and fexible workplaces, the Twin Cities offers employees in all stages of life opportunities to advance their careers
Astrong, competitive workforce is just one of many reasons to call the Twin Cities home. With countless Fortune 500 companies, area businesses, and nonprofits to choose from, workers across all fields will find something that suits their liking. Plus, in the Twin Cities, work-life balance is paramount. In fact, many workplaces offer hybrid schedule options, team-building opportunities, and wellness-based cultures. It’s no wonder Minneapolis was named the top city for young professionals this year by Travel + Leisure, and Minnesota ranked as one of the top two states in the U.S. for retirement in 2025 by WalletHub. No matter where you are in your professional journey, there’s a place for you in Minnesota’s largest metropolitan area.
The Twin Cities’ variety of transportation options will ease your commute, from freeways to award-winning public transportation and bike trail systems. Surrounding the region is a loop comprising interstates 494 and 694, plus I-35W and I-35E run north to south through Minneapolis and St. Paul, respectively. Other roads, such as I-394 and I-94, bisect the metro from east to west, and additional freeways form a grid that keeps traffic moving swiftly. The Metro Transit light-rail system continues to be extended to the suburbs and beyond, and bus routes—including multiple METRO bus rapid transit lines—are used frequently in many communities.
Among the bevy of successful companies based in Minnesota are several Fortune 500 companies, making the state a hot spot for job opportunities. Leading the pack at No. 6 on this year’s Fortune 500 list is UnitedHealth Group, an insurance and health care company headquartered in Minnetonka. The company employs over 400,000 people worldwide, with positions ranging from doctors and nurses to data scientists and administrators.
Other industry leaders—including Target Corp. at No. 39, Best Buy Co. Inc. at No. 74, 3M at No. 95, and CHS at No. 97—are not far behind. Minnesota continues to be represented further down the list with U.S. Bancorp

The region’s networking groups offer invaluable resources for getting your name out there and making important connections within your field. Consider groups like Young Professionals of Minneapolis or the Professionals Network of Minnesota. Organizations exist for those who prefer small-group settings and closer connections, too, including Ellevate Twin Cities, a coalition of women in the workplace; the Twin Cities Metro Growers Network, which connects farmers interested in sustainable practices; and Springboard for the Arts, which provides artists with resources, workshops, and networking opportunities. Additionally, professionals can fi nd connections through organizations such as the National Association of Asian American Professionals Minnesota and the Black Professional Social Network. inspire young entrepreneurs across various disciplines to begin their startup journeys. The competition boasts nine categories—including education, energy, agriculture, tech, health, and youth—with participants gaining mentorship, seed funding, publicity, and more. Last year, the $100,000 grand prize went to Momease Solutions for its innovative pumpenhancing bra, which allows mothers to collect breast milk comfortably. The runner-up was Mozrt, a financial technology startup dedicated to providing banks, credit unions, fintechs, and businesses the tools needed to simplify payment and foreign exchange (FX) processes.
Some of the largest employers in the Twin Cities are not on the Fortune 500 list because they are not publicly traded companies. In fact, the largest privately held company in the U.S., Cargill, with 160,000 employees and $160 billion in revenue last year, is headquartered in Minnetonka. Mayo Clinic, based in Rochester and named the best hospital in the world this year by Newsweek, employs 51,000. Other health-related companies in the top 10 (according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development in 2025) include Fairview Health Services of Minneapolis; Allina Health System, also of Minneapolis; and HealthPartners in Bloomington. With campuses in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and the State of Minnesota employ tens of thousands of people each.
Local charities aim to enrich the lives of Twin Cities residents in need
In the North Star State, we know a thing or two about giving. In fact, Minnesota is widely regarded as a philanthropic powerhouse, consistently ranked as a top charitable state by WalletHub. On Give to the Max Day in 2024, Minnesotans raised more than $37 million through the contributions of 6,556 organizations, showcasing a deep, statewide commitment to philanthropy. According to AmeriCorps data, about 40% of state residents volunteered in 2024.
But there’s always more work to be done. Food insecurity affects more
than 20% of Minnesotan households, according to a recent study by Second Harvest Heartland and Wilder Research. Second Harvest Heartland, based in Brooklyn Park, distributed more than 167 million pounds of food last year. The organization’s services include SNAP education, summer meals for children, and food boxes for low-income seniors. Feed My Starving Children engages volunteers to pack meals distributed to over 112 countries. Likewise, Open Arms of Minnesota, based in Minneapolis, delivers weekly, tailored meals to critically ill residents, preparing more than 800,000 meals in the 2023-24 fiscal year.
Addressing housing needs, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity provides affordable homeownership opportunities and advances racial equity in housing. Bridging, a charity with warehouses scattered around the Twin Cities, offers furniture and essentials to families in need, while People Serving People, one of the largest family-centered homeless shelters in Minneapolis, provides meals, early childhood programs, financial skills training, and resources to help families achieve stability. Volunteers can support these organizations through handson or behind-the-scenes work.
Organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), Ace in the City, and Literacy Minnesota focus on youth and education. BBBS pairs youth with mentors through various programs, and Minneapolis’ Ace in the City fosters literacy, family engagement, and fair housing efforts. St. Paul’s Literacy Minnesota helps adults advance their reading skills through free in-person and digital programs. Additionally, the world’s 200,000th Little Free Library was inaugurated in St. Paul in March of this year, promoting literacy and community engagement.
Several Minnesota businesses integrate philanthropy into their operations. Hippy Feet, a Minneapolis-based sock and apparel company, donates 50% of its profits to young people affected by homelessness. Meanwhile, Minneapolis-based Fair Anita partners with artisans in nine countries to create fairtrade jewelry, ensuring fair wages and educational support. Woodchuck USA plants a tree for every Minnesota-made customizable wood product sold, with more than 4 million
trees planted worldwide. Serving Those Serving focuses on mental health care and harm reduction in the restaurant and bar industry, equipping establishments with naloxone and fentanyl test strips to combat the opioid crisis.
True to the diverse cultural spirit of the Twin Cities, organizations like Voices for Racial Justice, based in Minneapolis, work to honor the knowledge, power, and healing of Black communities, Indigenous communities, and other communities of
color. Communities Organizing Latine Power and Action empowers Minnesota’s Latino community through advocacy in environmental justice, civic leadership, health, and voting rights, while St. Paul-based Minnesota Voice increases voter participation in underrepresented communities to ensure every voice is heard.
With thousands of charities serving communities across the state, it’s clear the desire to lend our neighbors a helping hand is deeply ingrained within our collective culture. Here, “Minnesota nice” is more than just an arbitrary stereotype—it’s an unspoken mandate we embrace with pride, year after year.
MY TWIN CITIES:
Executive Director, Voices for Racial Justice
How long have you lived in Minnesota? Thirty-four years.
What is your favorite part about living in Minnesota?
I love experiencing the best parts of all four seasons, especially in nature. I’m in the lakes every summer, at the orchards with my family every fall, sledding every winter, and watching life bloom again— what feels like overnight at times—in the spring, once the weather breaks.
How does your organization impact the quality of living for individuals in the Twin Cities?
Voices for Racial Justice is a multiracial organization that builds power among Black, Indigenous, and Communities
of Color throughout Minnesota to impact the quality of living for everyone in the state. Our vision is a future where we all know how to be in caring community with each other, the world, and ourselves.
How is Voices for Racial Justice working to meet the needs of BIPOC members in the community?
We were founded as the Organizing Apprenticeship Project and spent more than two decades training organizers to build power in Minnesota’s progressive organizations and government agencies. As we trained new organizers, we taught them not only the skills of organizing but also how to think about their own identities, how white supremacy shaped their lives, and how systemic barriers to racial and economic justice presented in their work. Over the past three decades, we have trained hundreds of leaders on different systems
and issue areas of importance to BIPOC Minnesotans.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about the nonprofi t sector of the Twin Cities?
The Twin Cities is abundant with kind and caring people who seek change in the world, doing incredible things through nonprofi t and grassroots-led movements. It’s up to us to be in relationship with one another—creating, supporting, and being the type of communities we hope to see. Consider this a call to action or a gentle invitation.
Dedicated teachers, world-class institutions, and dynamic programming ensure the Twin Cities stays at the top of the class
Minnesota is known for its strong commitment to education, boasting top-ranking public schools, nationally recognized universities, and a wide range of learning opportunities for students of all ages. In a study by U.S. News & World Report, Minnesota ranked No. 17 in pre-K-12 education, and No. 18 in higher education. These stats, paired
with Minnesota’s rankings in other categories, places Minnesota at No. 4 among the best states overall.
While Minnesota continues to rank highly in terms of standardized test scores and college readiness, the state’s education system is also renowned for its dedication to creating diverse, welcoming communities for students of all backgrounds.
So, whether looking into public education, private school options, online opportunities, or higher education pathways, Minnesota provides quality choices to help all students thrive.
Across the seven-county metro, the Twin Cities public school system encompasses more than 50 districts
MY TWIN CITIES:
Tracy Byrd
English Language Arts, Washburn High School; 2024 Minnesota Teacher of the Year
How long have you lived in the Twin Cities?
I was born and raised in Minnesota. I am a product of Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). I have seen fi ve decades of education cycles go through Minneapolis.
What do you think sets Minnesota’s teachers and students apart?
Having been a part of a few school districts, I would say the unapologetic high standards placed on students and us as educators is one factor setting
us apart. We [also] encourage our students to step into their greatness—building capacity to achieve versus building a dependency on excuses.
In your opinion, what is the biggest strength of the Twin Cities’ public school system?
First, we have found a way to keep a lot of our students in their home district. Another strength of MPS is the way we fi ght for one another. We live out what Paul Wellstone believed when he said, “We all do better when we all do better.” Our educators create ways to empower our students to feel comfortable and strive for more. Our teaching superpower is creating an environment where students push into the messy parts of learning and work their way to the other side.
to accommodate upward of 820,000 students. Each of these districts and institutions showcases its dedication to providing the next generation with a well-rounded education—one based not only on academics but also on social and cultural inclusion.
Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), for example, emphasizes the importance of delivering a high-quality, culturally responsive education to every student. The district’s mission is to ensure all students, regardless of background or ZIP code, receive an education that prepares them for future success in whatever path they pursue. Likewise, St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS), one of the state’s largest and most diverse school districts, serves 33,000 students across St. Paul. With a strong focus on equity and personalized learning, SPPS offers a range of programs, including language immersion, alternative education, and more. The district is also known for its commitment to college and career readiness, providing students with opportunities to earn college credits and explore various career paths.
What can we learn from the next generation of local professionals and leaders?
I have spoken to a lot of new teachers, and I feel the profession is in great hands. The next generation of teachers is eager and willing to take on the challenges this job provides on a daily basis. I have noticed these local professionals and leaders exude confi dence and demonstrate a way to connect with today’s students.
Anything else you’d like to mention about the education sector of the Twin Cities?
The Twin Cities education sector is refl ective, progressive, and inclusive. Our educators meet our students where they are and devise pathways to move them forward. Finding out what makes
the students comfortable is good to know. However, the next step is creating resilience within the students that can be drawn on later in life. Our teachers are profi cient at adding skills to the toolboxes of our students.

In the western suburbs, Wayzata Public Schools, Minnetonka Public School District, Eden Prairie Schools, and Edina Public School District rank highly for their college readiness, graduation rates, and teacher quality. When looking at athletics, Lakeville Public School District tops the charts for its number of sports offered and high levels
of student participation. Meanwhile, Robbinsdale Area Schools is known for its prestigious fine arts education, with award-winning education programs in dance, music, media art, visual arts, and theater. Some of the region’s other largest and most diverse school districts include Anoka-Hennepin School District, Osseo Area Schools, and South Washington County Schools.
Minnesota charter schools offer an alternative to a typical public education experience—one typically defi ned by smaller class sizes, more autonomy, and a specialized focus. A cross between public and private, charter schools receive funding from the state and operate under a contract, or “charter,” with an authorizer. This
structure allows for more flexible curriculum, staffing, and general operations. Charter schools must be open to all students and cannot charge tuition or have any religiousaffiliated curriculum. Currently, there are over 180 charter schools in operation throughout Minnesota.
The charter school system all began in 1992, when Minnesota made history by opening City Academy (7-12) in St. Paul, the fi rst charter school in the U.S. The school is sponsored by St. Catherine University but operates independently. Some other highly rated charter schools include Math & Science Academy (6-12) in Woodbury, Nova Classical Academy (K-12) in St. Paul, Eagle Ridge Academy (K-12) in Minnetonka, and St. Croix Preparatory Academy (K-12) in Stillwater.
For arts, consider the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists (9-12), where students are taught by
current professional artists in disciplines ranging from music and theater to dance, visual art, and more. The Performing Institute of Minnesota Arts (9-12) in Eden Prairie is another great option for creatives looking to grow their artistic skills.
For parents who prefer a language immersion school for their children, Minnesota has a diverse range of options. Well-respected multilingual institutions include Lakes
International Language Academy (K-12) in Forest Lake, L’Etoile du Nord French Immersion School (pre-K-5) in St. Paul, Yinghua Academy (K-8) in Minneapolis, Twin Cities German Immersion School (K-8) in St. Paul, Sejong Academy Korean Immersion School (pre-K-12) in St. Paul, International Spanish Language Academy (K-5) in Edina, and Woodcrest Spanish Immersion School (K-4) in Fridley.

Private schooling often affords students with smaller class sizes, individualized instruction, and alternative or creative teaching methods. Throughout the Twin Cities, there are traditional private schools, military prep schools, and specialty institutes to meet a variety of interests and needs. These institutions encompass Catholic and non-Catholic religious
affiliations, as well as nonsectarian. Providence Academy (pre-K-12) in Plymouth, Totino-Grace High School (9-12) in Fridley, and BenildeSt. Margaret’s (7-12) in St. Louis Park. For children pre-K-8, options include Ave Maria Academy (pre-K-8) in Maple Grove, Good Shepherd School (pre-K-6) in Golden Valley, and St. Jude of the Lake Catholic School (pre-K-8) in Mahtomedi.
Other non-Catholic religiousaffiliated schools can also be found
throughout the Twin Cities metro. Concordia Academy in Roseville, for instance, serves Lutheran high school students. Heritage Christian Academy in Maple Grove is a pre-K12 Christian institution dedicated to leading learners in both academics and faith. Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis is also rooted in the Christian faith and has been repeatedly ranked as the No. 1 Christian high school in the state.
For parents looking to enroll their children in a non-religious private school, places like Mounds Park Academy (pre-K-12) in St. Paul, St. Paul Academy and Summit School (K-12) in St. Paul, Groves Academy (1-12) in St. Louis Park, Fusion Academy (6-12) in Edina, and The Blake School (pre-K-12) in Hopkins and Minneapolis offer top-tier academics, extracurricular programs, and plenty of growth opportunities for young learners.
Since the pandemic, online learning has become more of a norm in the Twin Cities education sector. This model allows students to enjoy flexibility, convenience, and easy access to educational resources.
In Minnesota, there are over 50 online learning providers available to students—many of which are offered directly by local school districts or schools themselves.
St. Paul Online Schools, for example, provides students grades 9-12 with personalized programming from St. Paul Public School educators. Other local districts like Shakopee Public Schools, Owatonna Public Schools, Minneapolis Public Schools, Lakeville Area Schools, Eden Prairie Schools, and more have similar offerings—ensuring students across the state have virtual learning resources available at their fi ngertips.

For those who prefer a smaller campus, the 18 private nonprofit colleges within the Minnesota Private College Council might be a good fit. Augsburg University, Hamline University, Macalester College, St. Catherine University, and University of St. Thomas make up the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC), allowing students to register for exchange courses at other institutions within the system. Courses taken through ACTC are not considered transfer courses, and therefore count toward senior residency requirements. There’s also Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, which leads its students with core values of excellence, community, justice, service, and faith; Carleton College in Northfield, ranked the eighth-best liberal art college by U.S. News & World Report; and St. Olaf College in Northfield, known for its prestigious student music organizations. Other Minnesota Private College Council schools include Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Bethel University in St. Paul, College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University in Collegeville, The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Concordia College in Moorhead, Concordia University in St. Paul, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and University of Northwestern in St. Paul.
Health care providers and hospitals in the Twin Cities and beyond ensure your health is in good hands
The Twin Cities is a premier destination for health care across a wide range of specialties. Minneapolis’ Abbott Northwestern Hospital is the largest nonprofit hospital in the Twin Cities and was ranked as Minnesota’s second-best hospital by U.S. News & World Report this year. Abbott Northwestern serves more than 200,000 patients and their families from across the Twin Cities and upper Midwest. Newsweek even rated the hospital as high performing in neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology,

How long have you lived in Minnesota?
I was born here, but I’ve spent several years away in both New York City and Florida. I’ve always returned to Minnesota for family and, of course, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.
How has the theater evolved alongside the Twin Cities arts and entertainment scene? Chanhassen Dinner Theatres has continued to grow over the years as a trusted producer. We are the only year-round
sensory sensitivities. Dance enthusiasts can also experience the bold storytelling of Minneapolis’ Ragamala Dance Co. , which fuses South Indian classical dance with modern influences, or the fiery passion of American Spanish dance company Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre , which brings Spanish dance traditions to life on stage.
Equity musical theater producer in the Twin Cities that has the privilege of employing artists on long runs, which also allows us to hire top talent. We continue to uphold the highest standards of craft and artistry to give our audiences a truly remarkable theatrical experience.
In your opinion, what sets the Twin Cities’ theater scene apart from other metro areas? We are small, yet mighty! I’m always amazed at how much great and diverse theatre is happening throughout the Twin Cities.
In what ways does your organization engage with the community beyond the stage? Throughout the year, we engage in various fundraisers for local and national causes, [such as] Bridging, California Fires, Hurricane Relief,
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, and more. Our actors are often the ones spearheading these efforts. Our summer camps are another way we can reach out to youth performers and inspire young talent.
What inspires you?
Everything! Broadway musicals and plays, fashion, painting, photography, performance art, music … I love art—especially anything visual and musical.

You’ll find no shortage of teams to cheer for in this sports-crazy metro area
When you think of sports in Minnesota, what comes to mind? Odds are, you might think of ice hockey—and for good reason. Hockey is the official state sport, and Minnesota consistently produces more players at all levels of the game than any other state in the U.S. But hockey is just one part of the
Minnesota sports landscape, and both residents and visitors alike enjoy cheering for the multitude of teams in the Twin Cities.
Let’s start with hockey, represented at the top with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild . Fans consistently pack the Grand Casino Arena (previously the Xcel Energy Center) in
St. Paul for every home game, creating a buzzing and thrilling atmosphere. The Wild’s co-tenant, the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women’s Hockey League, arrived on the Minnesota sports scene with a bang in the 2023-24 season by winning the championship in their fi rst-ever campaign.
Minneapolis is where you’ll fi nd the rest of the state’s top-level pro teams, and both the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves and the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx play at Target Center. The Lynx have been one of the state’s most successful teams, winning four championships between 2011 and 2017, while the resurgent Timberwolves boast an exciting core of players that led them to the conference fi nals this year.
Just across the road from Target Center is Target Field, the unoffi cial capital of summer for Minnesota sports fans, playing host to the Minnesota Twins of MLB. Fans sitting on the third base side are treated to a spectacular view of downtown Minneapolis, but all seats have a great view of the action at a ballpark that consistently ranks among the best in baseball for its amenities, local food options, craft beer selections, and more. Twin Cities baseball fans are lucky in that both the Twins and their top minor-league affi liate, the St. Paul Saints , are located in the same metro area—the only such arrangement in baseball. The Saints’ CHS Field boasts a similarly great experience as its big-league counterpart, just on a smaller scale.
Also enjoying a lofty place in its sport’s stadium rankings is Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings . This modern, glassy stadium opened in 2016 and gives fans the feeling of being outside while sheltering them from the harsh weather of a pro football season.
If fútbol is more your style, Minnesota United FC of MLS play at Allianz Field in St. Paul, while Minnesota Aurora FC

How long have you lived in the Twin Cities, and what do you enjoy most about living here?
[My family and I] have lived in the Twin Cities for 21 years and, while it sounds cliche, what’s so incredible about this area is the overall quality of life it offers. From great schools and wonderful neighborhoods to an incredible food and entertainment scene, this area provides more than you could possibly take advantage of— even after 21 years.
What’s something you haven’t yet experienced in Minnesota but would like to?
Our family (my wife Kandice; two college-age sons, Sullivan and Lawson; and our golden retriever, Cocco) has done our share of Minnesota excursions over the years, but we’ve never made it to Lake Itasca and the Mississippi River headwaters.
of the USL W League play at TCO Stadium in Eagan—which is also home to the Vikings training camp.
With two NCAA Division I programs, the Twin Cities offers an unmatched collegiate experience as well. The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers play in Minneapolis and compete in the Big Ten, one of the top conferences in the country. In St. Paul, the University of St. Thomas boasts one of the newest programs in Division I after a long spell of athletic success in Division III. Whatever your sport, there’s surely a seat waiting for you in the Twin Cities.
How do you think Minnesota’s pro sports teams contribute to the culture of the Twin Cities?
The Minnesota sports entertainment scene is incredible. We have some of the best facilities and most beloved brands in all sports. At CHS Field and Target Field, we have the two most fanfriendly ballparks in baseball. Grand Casino Arena, U.S. Bank Stadium, Allianz Field, and Huntington Bank Stadium are all also best-in-class venues, and that still doesn’t complete the list! With fi ve major league franchises, a Big Ten university, women’s professional soccer and hockey franchises, and one of the most recognizable minor league baseball franchises in the country, Minnesotans have so many great experiences to choose from. If you peek behind the amazing venues and exciting sports action, I think you’ll fi nd our sports franchises are incredibly involved in our community— giving time, energy, and funds to make the Twin Cities an amazing place to live.
What do you think makes the Saints special in Minnesota’s sports landscape?
For 32 years, the Saints have taken pride in punching above our weight class. As a minor league team in a major league market, we’ve done our best to provide a uniquely fun experience for everyone who walks through our gates. As much as anything else, we’ve listened to our community, and we’ve listened to our fans in hopes that what we learned would help us provide the most memorable experience possible.
