We welcome you to the 2023 concert season. I am delighted to serve as the new Great Water’s Executive Director and hope I have the opportunity to meet many of you soon!
Summer in the Lakes Region is always extraordinary; the majesty of the lakes and the surrounding mountains have attracted generations of individuals and families for centuries. Our concerts’ homes, both at the Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough and at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, are also centuries-old icons where we are privileged to showcase the best musical talent for our patrons.
It is the mission of Great Waters to present and create outstanding musical, educational, and artistic events that appeal to a wide variety of tastes and enrich the cultural lives of those living in and visiting the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Our dedication to providing scholarships to young people interested in pursuing music education excellence has never been more robust. We look forward to introducing some of those talented students who have benefited from the scholarship program to you on our stage this summer.
The success of the concert series is only possible with our army of volunteers, talented staff and crew, and generous benefactors. Please page through this program and note the many sponsors, donors, friends, and advertisers that help make these concerts possible. Our partnership with Chuck Clark, the Executive Director of Castle in the Clouds, and Kristy Kerin, the Head of School at Brewster Academy, has also allowed us to plan for and execute the caliber of musical performances for which we are known. We are most grateful to all of them.
No matter which venue you visit this summer, and we hope you attend all of our concerts, “In the Clouds” and “In Town,” sit back, sing along, and join in the fun. Music truly is the language of the soul.
Bravo!
Joan Myers Executive Director at Great WatersBrewster Academy is proud to celebrate another wonderful season with Great Waters. Thank you for bringing live performances to New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, our home for more than 200 years!
At Brewster, every student can be their authentic selves, enjoy rich academic offerings, and pursue their passions in the arts, athletics, and so much more! Learn more at brewsteracademy.org.
There is nothing quite like the experience of being together in one place, sharing in the celebration of hearing live performances, laughing together, being entranced by the beauty of a song, rising to our feet in unison to dance, or cheering for an encore.
The connection between Great Waters and its donors, sponsors, volunteers, partners, friends, and, most of all, gifted performers is powerful and made possible by the direction of an outstanding and deeply committed Board of Directors who work tirelessly to put the great in Great Waters. We welcome our new Executive Director, Joan Myers, and Office Manager, Heidi Page, who find new ways every day to make our organization stronger and more productive. With great gratitude for 27 years of service to Great Waters, we will finally allow Barbara Lobdell to retire.
In addition to our Concerts in the Clouds series at the Castle in the Clouds, we proudly acknowledge our Great Waters’ repertoire this year—the Concerts in Town Series at Brewster Academy, sponsored by the Curvey Family Foundation. Head of School Kristy Kerin has enthusiastically welcomed the idea of this collaboration and has been a joy to work with. This summer, we present two concerts at Anderson Hall: Linda Eder on July 8th and the Empire Trio on August 24th. Following the performance of the Empire Trio, there will be a “talk back” session where we will be able to ask questions and learn about the incredible music and the performers that created the magical moments on stage for us.
We are most grateful for our continued partnership with the Castle in the Clouds. We have found new ways to collaborate and cooperate. The unwavering commitment of Executive Director Chuck Clark and his board inspires us and solidifies the connection that allows both Great Waters and the Castle in the Clouds to thrive.
We would only be able to accomplish all that we have with the support of our Lakes Region community and beyond. We are so thankful for the support of our sponsors, donors, gala attendees, volunteers, and ticket buyers.
A heartfelt thank you to all.
Barbara Olcott Board of Directors, ChairYour presence here reinforces our belief in the importance of live performances. It supports our commitment to continue bringing you extraordinary music and impactful performances in our venues with engaged audiences.
—The Great Waters Board of Directors
Castle in the Clouds and the Great Waters Music Festival are pleased to announce the renewal of their partnership to bring outstanding summer concerts to the beautiful grounds of the Castle in Moultonborough. During the months of July and August, Great Waters will present well-known performers under their large acoustical tent located in the meadow near Shannon Pond.
Castle in the Clouds recently adopted a new strategic plan that includes five areas of focus. One of these areas is to expand and strengthen their current partnerships, including their work with Great Waters, whose mission is to provide outstanding musical performances to those living in and visiting the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. It is a natural fit for both organizations.
Chuck Clark, Executive Director of Castle in the Clouds, says: “It is of great importance that nonprofits work together for the good of the community. We are excited that the Castle is able to provide the setting, while Great Waters provides the music. This is an opportunity for both organizations to utilize their complementary assets and skill sets to benefit everyone.”
Great Waters values the ability to locate its concerts in a breathtaking space that showcases the quality and beauty of the musical performances. Because the Castle’s Moultonborough location is so central to the Lakes Region, it offers a convenient as well as a stunning location to full-time and summer residents.
Joan Myers, the Executive Director of Great Waters, says: “Bringing our communities together in beautiful settings to hear magnificent performers is a privilege. We’re always thrilled to witness the magic at these concerts and to know we’ve played a role in creating some lasting memories.”
Great Waters and Castle in the Clouds are both nonprofit organizations.

A thank you really does not seem like enough to honor Barbara Lobdell, but this message is at least a start. From all of her friends and fellow Board Members at Great Waters, thank you to our dear Barbara for everything you have done for this organization.
Barbara has chaired almost every committee on the Board, including being the overall Chair of the Great Waters’ Board of Directors, AND she has served as our Interim Executive Director on four (count them, 4) separate occasions. During and after her career as a teacher and school administrator, she has contributed to our organization, and it was an honor to set up the Barbara and David Lobdell Scholarship Fund at Great Waters to help educate the next generation of music professionals.
Barbara’s leadership, intelligence, energy and goodwill are treasured by all of us who have had the good fortune to work with her and to call her our friend.
Thank you Barbara……… and we’ll see you at this summer’s Concerts in the Clouds and Concerts in Town!
If you are interested in learning more about how our season comes together, there are abundant opportunities for you to volunteer. We always appreciate community involvement with our events, be it helping promote the season, planning events, assisting at the venues or in our office, or working on special initiatives such as student scholarships, the Street Piano Project, the 4th of July Parade, and holiday activities. Your talent is our treasure.
