“This year’s awardees represent a network of diverse business entities that are invested in the betterment of Baltimore City, and in catalyzing a brighter future for the region,” said GBC President and CEO Mark Anthony Thomas. “The ceremony hosted at the M&T Bank Exchange on December 13th will celebrate their work at the leading edge of creating transformative change around our multi-year agenda.”

To better align with its recently announced multi-year agenda aimed at propelling the Greater Baltimore Region toward a thriving future of inclusive growth and economic opportunity, the GBC this year revamped the annual awards program to highlight companies and organizations exemplifying at least one of the following five categories:

Economic opportunity: a business or organization that has taken innovative approaches to hiring local or supporting small business opportunities.

Ambassador for Baltimore Region: recognizing a business or organization that celebrates our city and region.

Local investment: a business or organization that is investing heavily in the city and region creating jobs and capital investment to grow our economy.

Supporting safe and vibrant communities: a business or organization investing in safe and cleaner communities.

Community redevelopment: a business or organization driving redevelopment of underserved communities.

“This recognition has always sought to inspire leaders across the City of Baltimore to continue innovating ways to support their communities and help our city achieve its full potential,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott when the call for nominations was announced. “Collectively, we can address Baltimore’s most pressing challenges, create opportunities for growth, and continue to strengthen our connections to one another.”

The GBC introduced its multi-year agenda at its May annual meeting, the first since the GBC's merger with the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore (EAGB). The agenda includes 12 initiatives to support the organization’s combined role in shaping the region’s econonmic future and driving collective impact for the more than 500 businesses and organizations committed to the region. The initiatives focus on three critical areas: (1) Economic Opportunity, (2) Transportation & Infrastructure, and (3) Collective Impact.

The winners of this year’s awards program will be celebrated at an event on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at M&T Bank Exchange at the France Merrick Performing Arts Center, 12 N.
