president’s message The 2019 Race City Festival will celebrate its 36th anniversary. This year we will welcome food trucks and more than 20,000 people to Downtown Mooresville on May 11th. The festival itself runs from 9 AM until 5 PM. It is a rain or shine event. Main Street and Broad Street will be closed to traffic between Iredell Avenue and McLelland Avenue. Filling the street will be a colorful international festival of food trucks, crafts, games, and entertainment. With nearly 200 vendors this year’s festival will be complete with a children’s entertainment area and Express Train, Acrofitness Dance Troops, live music, aerobic martial arts performances, a variety of arts and crafts, and even a chainsaw artist demonstration. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day with a main stage offering over a variety of different acts. The main stage will be positioned on Broad Street in the food truck court area near the Mooresville Christian Mission. Because this is a

racing community NASCAR will also have a spotlight with race cars and historic automobiles from area Motorsports Museums and other participating vendors. Pick up a racing collectable or a beautiful piece of locally produced artwork. There will be family fun and food for everyone. The 2019 festival will welcome young and old to Downtown Mooresville. Everyone will be there! You should, too! Sincerely, Kirk Ballard, President MSI Chamber of Commerce

chairman’s message Spring is officially here and that usually means two or three things for your Chamber and your business. For the Chamber it means we have experienced another great first quarter with our Annual Meeting, and multiple exciting new business openings accompanied by ribbon cuttings. It also means we had another very successful “Live the Good Life Expo” at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in late March. Many vendors participated primarily from health care and related industries. A big “Thank You” goes to our Presenting Sponsor, Piedmont Healthcare. We would also like to thank the Mooresville Police Department for their “Pill Take Back” program where unused prescription drugs were turned in at the event. This program is very popular and continues to gain momentum each year at our Health Expo. We had another great group of high school students participate in our Jr. Leadership program. We look forward to these students completing high school and then moving into post-secondary education for their future careers.

Hopefully, your business is off to a great start this year with a game plan in place ready to execute with precision. To assist you please note our weekly emails and calendar of events. These networking opportunities with your peers will maximize your contacts and exposure. Often being at the right place at the right time can be the difference. As always thank you for what you do for and mean to your chamber and let us know how we can make a difference for you! Sincerely, Jim Marshall, Chairman MSI Chamber of Commerce

Jr. Leadership MSI

Class 2018-2019

The Chamber’s Junior Leadership MSI Class of 2018-2019 graduated from their program. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory is thanked for being the Junior Leadership MSI Program Sponsor. The group started last October and rotated through the community each month. They gained knowledge of our civic and governmental leadership through direct contact with a wide spectrum of institutions that keep Mooresville-South Iredell moving forward. The program shows future leaders the mechanics that makes

our community run so that they are equipped with the skills needed to use in their academic and professional futures. In addition, the program is designed to prepare and build leadership resources within our community.

The class completed a community service project by conducting a science learning program with the students at the Mooresville Head Start Center. We congratulate all the graduates in this year’s program! THE VOICE May | June 2019 13
