president’s message We have two great events coming up this March and April. March – “Live the Good Life Showcase”: March 21st from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Charles Mack Citizen Center. In today’s complex healthcare world, you need an edge to help place you and your business as leaders in the community. The Leading Edge Healthcare Group gives you that edge by helping build strong contacts and an excellent network with those involved in or affiliated with the healthcare industry. This showcase is free and open to the public. Due to the popularity of this event we have doubled in size and now have over 80 booths available. There will be vendors on-site with various health screenings available. This year we will spotlight the critical needs within our community with a Blood Drive hosted by Community Blood Center of the Carolinas, the Mooresville Police Department Prescription Drug Take Back Program, the Lion’s Club Vision Van, and the Novant Health Mammography Bus. Thank you to our Presenting Sponsor Piedmont Healthcare and to our Associate Sponsors Iredell Health Systems, Novant Health and Anytime Fitness Centers, also our Supporting Sponsor Freedom Mobility.

12th, 8:00 am breakfast and a shotgun start at the Mooresville Municipal Golf Course. For the golf lover! Do you need a day out of the office? Prefer to do business on the green? So do many others! Make sure you take this opportunity to get your business in front of the countless golfers that will be on the course for this fun-filled, prize-filled event. This event sells out each year so make sure you save a spot for you and your team. Come out and celebrate the week after paying your taxes! Sincerely, Kirk Ballard, President MSI Chamber of Commerce PS: Don’t forget the 36th Annual Race City Festival Saturday May 11th 9-5pm on Main Street and Broad Street in downtown Mooresville.

April – “Swinging for Small Business” Golf Tournament: April

chairman’s message I want to thank everyone who attended and supported our Annual Awards Luncheon in January. A capacity crowd witnessed the excellence of our award winners and all of the great things they bring to and for our community. Barbara Johnson, Recreation Supervisor at Mooresville’s Winnie Hooper Center, was presented the Sara Haire Tice Women in Leadership Award, Walker Humphries, Vice President of Special Services, accepted the Randy Marion Automotive Business of the Year Award on behalf of Bay State Milling, and Chris Steiner Owner of Five Guys Burgers & Fries Restaurant was awarded the MSI Chamber Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The Duke Energy Service Award was presented to Hope of Mooresville, and the Citizen of the Year Award was given to Jack Grossman. Two Making a Difference awards were presented posthumously for Ellis Kelly and Bernice “Miss Bee” Scott. Jim Popp, Mooresville sports legend, and most successful general manager in the history of the Canadian Football

league, was the keynote speaker. In keeping with this year’s theme, “A Legacy of Leadership”, Jim shared how his parents, Joe and Peggy Popp, laid the foundation for his success. He shared many stories about his family, his college years and his career in football as player, coach, and now general manager. And as always, thank you for what you mean to and do for our community. I look forward to serving as your Chairman again in 2019! Best wishes, Jim Marshall, Chairman MSI Chamber of Commerce
