president’s message The MSI Chamber’s Professional Women’s Conference on September 19th will feature guest speaker Maureen O’Boyle. This year’s event will again be at the Charles Mack Citizens Center in Downtown Mooresville. There will be Networking and Breakfast from 8:30 am to 9:30 am and information panels until noon with lunch and learn until 1pm. This year’s guest speaker, Maureen O’Boyle, returned to her hometown of Charlotte to join WBTV in the summer of 2004. She anchors the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. news Monday through Friday. She also anchors PrimeTime, Charlotte’s only newscast at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Prior to joining WBTV, Maureen worked on national television, anchoring syndicated programs for Warner Brothers and Twentieth Television, including, EXTRA and A Current Affair. Maureen was also at the helm of her own talk-show for Warner Brothers called In Person with Maureen. Maureen counts her work in the community as some of her most rewarding assignments. She works with several charities in our region from the foothills and mountains to the Charlotte metro region. She tries to work with charities that reflect her values. The Second Harvest Food Bank, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and the “Go Red for Women” campaign with the American Heart Association are just a few of the nonprofits she supports. We are having a “Motown to Memphis” Business Expo on October 24th. Join the MSI Chamber for the Business Expo “Motown to Memphis” music theme on Thursday, October 24th. The Business Expo will be from 11 am - 5pm at the Charles Mack Center. With close to 80 booths filled with area businesses and organizations, this expo is a networkers dream. The annual

event consistently sells out, filling the Charles Mack Center with businesses and visitors looking to connect with local services and products. This event is open to the public as there is no admission charge. This year we’ve added something fun to our networking event in the exhibition hall to increase booth traffic and maximize the return on the investment for our exhibitors. This years’ music theme will be fun for all as our business vendors decorate their booth with items from Rock and Roll to Country and Western costumes. See if you can find your favorite star at each of the vendor’s booths. Don’t miss this opportunity to visit and vote for your favorite, most creative costume and help us pick the best decorated booth. Take advantage of this incredible opportunity to showcase your products and services, meet face-to-face with hundreds of other businesses and customers, and possibly see Elvis or The Beatles who will be actively networking at the exhibition hall that day. We are giving away two tickets to Elton John’s Final Performance in Charlotte on November 6th to the person who visits all our vendors. Over 1,000 people visited last year’s event. Sincerely, Kirk Ballard, President MSI Chamber of Commerce

chairman’s message The Professional Women’s Network has developed into a popular forum for making connections. The monthly event has offered members an opportunity to learn about particular aspects of the great community in which they live, work, and play. The enthusiastic leadership for PWN is a perfect example of making the Chamber work for you and your products/services. Womenowned businesses are becoming the nation’s job creation engine and this organization is poised to encourage that fact. Our Professional Women’s Conference will be another successful sell out with guest speaker Maureen O’Boyle. Everyone that attends this event will walk away with a renewed confidence. The panel discussions will be led by local women business leaders which is sure to be inspirational. It’s important to have great products but, passion, enthusiasm and emotion will set you apart. We thank our event sponsor Duke Energy for partnering with us on this great event.

As your Chamber launched the year, the strategic focus has been on small business resources, the value that our members realize through Chamber membership, and education/workforce development initiatives. By working together for positive change and building on local strengths, the Mooresville-Lake Norman region will continue to be a major center for business innovation and entrepreneurship. Sincerely, Jim Marshall, Chairman MSI Chamber of Commerce
