The Imitation Game is a nail-biting race against time following Alan Turing (pioneer of modern-day computing and credited with cracking the German Enigma code) and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British establishment, but his work and legacy live on.

SATURDAY 28TH NOVEMBER FROM THE JAM

FRIDAY 30TH OCTOBER KING KING

Sound Effects is The Jam’s fifth album. Released in 1980, It often vies for the title of their best, a superb amalgam of funk and mid-60s psychedelic rock. All sprinkled with fantastic hooks and tight-as-you-like playing. After the ambitious, harder-rocking Setting Sons, The Jam returned to the pop-oriented outlook of All Mod Cons, albeit with a noticeably different sound. From The Jam return to the Grand for what has become a hugely popular annual appearance. Tickets will sell out so please purchase early to avoid disappointment.

The Grand is thrilled to present the multi-award winning British Blues band KING KING to the venue for the first time. Described as “one of the most explosive rock/blues bands on the planet!” by Get Ready to Rock, King King are setting the Blues live scene on fire. As Henry Yates, of Classic Rock Blues notes, “king King are the hottest draw in British blues-rock.” Yet there’s no smoke and mirrors behind their five-year rise: just killer songs, performed with true passion, by a first-rate lineup.

SOLOMON

CLITHEROE SKATEPARK

A NOTE OF THANKS TO JOHN & ANN MARSDEN FROM THE GRAND’S SOLOMON PROJECT On February 17th 2015, we received the sad news that our great friend and supporter, John Marsden had lost his battle with cancer. John had been fighting his condition for four and a half years, after being diagnosed in August 2010.

CLITHEROE SKATEPARK OPERATED BY THE GRAND VENUE Clitheroe Skate Park opened in 2006 and since has proven to be an extremely popular asset to the young people of the Ribble Valley and the wider community. The skate park boasts a great reputation with the UK’s leading skateboard magazine ‘Sidewalk’ hailing it to be a “concrete beauty”. It includes a mini ramp, street section with recently added new obstacles, a 7ft bowl in the deep as well as a 3ft in the shallow. From beginner to advanced level the skate park is open to all, whether that be a skater, scooter, or BMXer, Clitheroe Skate Park will push your limits!!! The skate park is open every day from sunrise to sunset and manned by the Grand’s very own Justin Willis. During Winter months we host an indoor Skate Park at the St Mary’s Centre.

CLITHEROE CASTLE, LANCS, BB7 1BA Find us on Facebook @clitheroeskatepark

During those four and a half years, John threw himself into supporting the Solomon Project, together with Ann, his wife, they decided to raise as much money as possible for the Project, starting with an event at The Grand to celebrate John’s 70th Birthday. The Solomon Project is The Grand’s charitable initiative which serves the needs of some of Kenya’s poorest children. By working in partnership with Mary’s Meals the Project provides meals to chronically hungry children within their school environment. By using community volunteers and locally produced ingredients, the Project can feed a child in school for a whole year for just £17. Since John and Ann’s first event, there has been a further four events, where John and Ann, supported by close family and friends, have raised in excess of £21,000. The most recent event being held as a Memorial Concert for John on the 19th April 2015. Donations in John’s memory alone have raised above £2,500 for the Project. There is a 6th event being planned for December, which will probably see the total donations to the Project at the £20k threshold. This total will equate to 1176 children fed for a whole year through John and Ann’s fundraising. We will all miss John for his cheerful nature, his knowledge of music and his support of ‘The Clarets’ (Burnley FC). His legacy for the Project will have lasting effects for the future generations of Kenya, by developing the children in their education, they will be able to progress and grow skills for their own development and contribution towards working in Kenya and bringing prosperity to their towns and villages. The Solomon Project would also like to thank Ann for her support for The Project and for her work as one of The Grand’s Volunteer Team.
