GUIDE SEPT - DEC 2014

WELCOME TO OUR AUTUMN EVENTS GUIDE 2014. We are thrilled to present another diverse and entertaining programme of live music, theatre and guest speakers as the evenings draw in. A host of new names to The Grand stage include the Aynsley Lister Band, Dervish, Capercaillie, Mr Scruff and The Searchers. Through our partnership with Root Music and the Band on the Wall, we are also excited to welcome jazz pianist Bill Laurance from the globally renowned Snarky Puppy and the much talked about Hackney Colliery Band.

Theatre and pantomime from Saltmine and Ribcaged will be supplemented with a new season of broadcasts from the National Theatre. Please keep an eye on our website for further programme updates. The Grand’s audience continues to grow and as ever we thank you for your continued support.

Continuing the theme of some highly successful ‘evening with’ events earlier this year, we look forward to an enlightening evening with wildlife and comedy celebrity Bill Oddie, and a more reflective one with local soldier Rick Clement as we close in on Remembrance Day in November. We follow the hugely successful night with Craig Charles with another Manchester DJ legend, Mr Scruff, who will be spinning a four-hour set in October.

INFORMATION The Grand is a registered charity (no 1111102) focused on providing opportunities to the youth of the Ribble Valley as well as offering a broad-based arts programme for the region. 2

The Solomon Project is advocating the needs of some of Kenya’s poorest children. It works in partnership with Mary’s Meals, providing meals to chronically hungry children in their local school. By using local produce and utilising community volunteers, it costs just £17 per year to feed one child in school. You can easily donate to The Solomon Project when purchasing tickets, just add a donation to your basket when booking online or speak to our box office team. Thank you.

BOOKING SERVICE The Grand charges a small booking fee of £1.50 per transaction (not ticket). This helps us deliver our arts programme as well as our wider outreach work. Buying tickets directly from The Grand is always cheaper than external ticket agencies. AFFINITY SCHEME Frequent attendees will save money with a Grand Affinity card, available at The Grand Box Office for £25 per year (Renewals are charged at £20). Affinity cards give you 10% off 2 tickets to highlighted events as well as discounted entry to The Grand’s weekly Lunchtime Live sessions. CHERRY GHOST FRI 5 DEC DOORS 7PM STAGE 7.45PM £14 ADV (GENERAL ADMISSION)

Cherry Ghost is the brainchild of Simon Aldred, one of the UK’s truly distinctive voices of the past decade. Having announced himself debut album Thirst for Romance in 2007 and a fabulous follow-up Beneath the Burning Shoreline in 2010, Simon has kept his widespread fanbase guessing before landing another great record Herd Runners, earlier this year. Selling out the 1000 capacity Manchester Cathedral recently speaks volumes for his draw. Support comes from Colne psych-folk duo Bird to Beast and Clitheroe act The Remedy.

There have been many milestones for a band who have sold over a million albums worldwide. Capercaillie have been credited with being the major force in bringing Celtic music to the world stage, and their unique fusion of Gaelic culture and contemporary sound has always stretched boundaries in their quest to keep the music evolving.
