rameen Telecom Trust (GTT) has reached the milestone of investments in business of 2,000 Nobin Udyoktas. "We are not Job seekers, We are job givers” with this motto GTT is implementing NU Program since November, 2013

The NU Program not only invests in new entrepreneur who are children of Grameen Bank borrowers but also assists them and holds there hand from the scratch till they are established as successful entrepreneur. GTT thrives for women empowerment bringing positive changes in the lives of women, marginalized communities, students, handicraft producers, small milk producers and many more. With 2000 NUs on board who have created jobs for further 3000 people GTT is touching lives of almost 25,000 people through Nobin Udyokta projects. GTT is running the program in Narayanganj, Comilla, Chittagong, Jessore, Thakurgaon, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Naogaon and Chapainababganj through 21 Field Unit offices.


Highlights of Social Business Program Activities ‘Best’ and ‘Promising’ Nobin Udyokta Award Giving Ceremony In 2016, GTT introduced the ‘Best’ and ‘Promising’ Nobin Udyokta (NU) award. It is introduced acknowledging and awarding them, who are partners with GTT for more than one year. The best and Promising NUs were selected following a 100 marks parameter on 8 areas such as: Sending SMS, Estimated Sales, Estimated Expenditure, Monthly ReceiptPayment Statement, Investment Payback, Yearly Asset

The award giving ceremonies were held at: RDRS auditorium Rangpur, SKS Inn Gaibandha, ESDO Seminar Hall Thakurgaon, Ulipur Upzila auditorium Kurigram, Niamatpur Upzilla auditorium, Naogaon and Joyoti Society seminar hall, Jessore. Ms. Parveen Mahmud, Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Trust awarded the best and promising Nobin Udyoktas with a crest and certificate. Mr. Jayanta Kumer Bosu, Team Leader of Social Business and other members of the Social Business team of GTT were also present. The Best Nobin Udyoktas from Rangpur were Ms. Asmatara Begum and Mr. Helal Uddin. Mr. Imran Hossain and Ms. Nasima Akter were the best NUs from Jessore. From Thakurgaon, the best awardees were Ms. Eti Begum and Mr. Aminul Haque

Increase, Yearly Employment Generation, Behavior, and Social Activities & Participation. GTT has evaluated NU’s satisfactory performance, growth in business and regular maintenance of the criteria of NU monitoring system, such as daily reporting through text messages, maintaining daily receive payment records & forwarding to GTT. A total of 7 (seven) Nobin Udyokta from 6 regions of Bangladesh received best ‘Best Nobin Udyokta’ award. Besides, to encourage the NUs, GTT created ‘Promising Nobin Udyokta’ award for those who did not cross one year of their business after receiving investment from GTT.

The only one awardee from Gaibandha was Mr. Polash Pramanic. The two Promising Nobin Udyoktas were Mr. Jagannat Shing from Naogaon and Mr. Anamul Haque from Kurigram. Ms. Parveen Mahmud in her speech described the history and background of Nobin Udyokta Program and its long journey. The best and promising Nobin Udyoktas were given opportunity to express their feelings. The Nobin Udyoktas thanked Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) for their overall support in making them successful entrepreneurs.

13th Nobin Udyokta Screening Exercise The 13th Nobin Udyokta Screening Exercise took place in Rohanpur, Chapainawabganj. The daylong screening exercise was held on 23 March, 2016 in Gomastapur Auditorium, Rohanpur, Chapainawabganj. One Hundred Seventy (170) promising Nobin Udyoktas (New Entrepreneurs) participated in the program. The total number of promising Nobin Udyoktas participating in the Screening Exercise till June 2016 was Eight Hundred Ninety Nine (899). The exercise was conducted by Coordinator, Social business, Mr. K.M Saleheen. The team members & field officers of GTT were also present in the Screening Exercise. This is a part of the Nobin Udyokta program of GTT that scouts young Nobin Udyokta screening exercise at Chapainawabganj and inspiring entrepreneurs (children of Grameen Bank borrowers) and supports them in setting up their own ventures by providing various forms of support and guideline. The main objective of the program is to turn them into job creators rather than being job seekers.

3rd Training on Nobin Udyokta Program Operation at Head Office, Dhaka A four-day training on ‘Nobin Udyokta Program Operation’ for newly joined field employees of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) was held from 8–11 May 2016 at the Social Business Learning Centre (Level-5) of GTT premises. The training program had forty one (41) field employees who are responsible for implementing field level Nobin Udyokta (NU) program.

Ms. Parveen Mahmud, Managing Director, GTT greeted the new employees at the opening ceremony. In her speech, she emphasized on few points to encourage the new employees and welcomed them all as part of the GTT family. This training was provided to the field level employees to build their capacity in operating the Nobin Udyokta program successfully. The training was facilitated by the Managing Director

of GTT, Team Leader of Social Business & Program Support, Head of HR & Administration, and Manager, Social Business who described the Social Business Projects and Nobin Udyokta Program & Policies and Procedures. CFO & Board Secretary described the financial procedure of the programs. A guest facilitator, Mr. Ataur Rahman, Head Training Project of Grameen Communications who briefed on the social business monitoring system and the process on how NU reports are generated.

Ms. Parveen Mahmud & Mr. Ahsan Ullah distributed certificates at the closing ceremony of the training to all the participants. 8th Employee Induction and Social Business Training The 8th Employee Induction Program for the new employees of Grameen Telecom Trust was held on Tuesday, 3 May 2016. This arrangement was made to provide an introduction to the innovative concept of Social Business, Human Resource, Administrative Policies and Nobin Udyokta Program. The induction was conducted by the Head of HR & Administration, Team Leader, Social Business &

Program Support and Manager, Social Business & Communications who shared their view and scope of working in GTT and also discussed about the activities of respective departments. Ms. Parveen Mahmud, Managing Director, GTT welcomed the new employees and gave them guidance for strengthening GTT team by being a valuable asset for the organization.


2nd Fire Drill Training of GTT Employees A two-day fire drill training of Grameen Telecom Trust employees was held at the Social Business Learning Centre (Level-5 of GTT premises) on 14 & 15 May 2016. A total of 32 employees participated in the session. The training session was held to provide an overall idea on what to do and how to protect one self and others from any natural calamity. The training was organized by the HR & Administration Department of GTT in cooperation with Fire Service & Civil Defense department. The lead trainer of the training was Major A.K.M. Shakil Newaz, Director (Operations & Maintenance), Fire Service & Civil Defence Fire Drill Training Department. The other trainers present in the session were Inspector, Atiqul Alam Chowdhury and Inspector, Sirajul Islam from the Fire Service & Civil Defense Department.

Grameen Telecom Trust SBLIF Updates Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) between GTT & SDRS KISHOLOY SCHOOL On Monday 30 May 2016, Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with SDRS at Grameen Bank Auditorium, at the 262nd Social Business Design Lab. This is the 3rd social business of GTT with SDRS as a partner. The ceremony was presided over by the Chairman of Grameen Telecom Trust, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, GTT) & Mr. Md. Golam Mostofa (Executive Director, SDRS) signed the agreement on behalf of GTT and SDRS. The project will be sponsored with the recouped fund of the first two social businesses with SDRS. Kisholoy School is a School of Technology based (Digital) Education where disadvantaged children of the ‘Char’ (River Island) area will receive IT based education.

The objective of the project is to provide quality education through digital system to the remote ‘Char’ areas of Fulchori Upazilla (sub-district) under Gaibandha district. The school already has enrolled 93 children. A total of 3 teachers are teaching in the school and more teachers’ will be appointed in future.

Board Meeting of Grameen Telecom Trust (23rd and 24th) The 23rd and 24th Board Meeting of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) was held on 20 April and 12 July, 2016, respectively. The meeting was chaired by the honorable Chairman of GTT, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. All departments updated the Board of Trustees on various operational issues. After the presentations and discussions, the board took a number of decisions and set future plans regarding GTT’s construction activities, fund collection, delegation of authority, SBLIF projects, Nobin Udyokta program and others.

Interns from S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai, India A team of eight (8) students from S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai, India who are doing their internship at Yunus Centre visited Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) premises On 15 March, 2016 to know more about Social Business, Nobin Udyokta and other activities of GTT. All the interns were from different parts of India. The presentation about GTT was supervised by Team Leader, Social Business & Program Support of GTT who introduced Interns visiting GTT GTT and its activities to the interns. He also briefed the interns on the impact of Social Business & Nobin Udyokta Program. Manager HR and Communication and other members of GTT social business team were also present in the session.

Meet & Greet Session with Professor Muhammad Yunus after Eid-ul-Fitr The corporate office employees, lead by Ms. Parveen Mahmud, Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) went on a courtesy call to greet honorable Chairman and Board of Trustee of GTT, Professor Muhammad Yunus on the first working day after Eidul-Fitr on Sunday, July 10 2016.

Professor Muhammad Yunus wished everyone a happy and blessed Eid and discussed about the cancelation/postponement of 7th Social Business Day and also the progress of the ongoing construction of Telecom Bhaban and Samajik Convention Center.

Grameen poshra Inauguration of Grameen POSHRA Outlet On 9 May, 2016 Grameen POSHRA was inaugurated by the Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Trust. All employees of GTT were present at the soft launching to check out the new store & the unique collections. Grameen POSHRA, will facilitate market access of products of Nobin Udyokta's& Social Business Learning & Innovation Fund (SBLIF) projects, through value chain development, digital marketing and micro franchise outlets. Grameen POSHRA shall be focusing to promote Grameen Handicrafts and reinvent our cultural heritage like, haathpakhas (hand fans), hand loom and power loom fabrics, khadi, grameen check, silk, andi, readymade garments, pottery, jute and leather products etc.

Grameen Telecom Trust Employee in One Young World Summit Nusrat has been selected as a participant to attend at the One Young World Summit 2016 through a competitive selection process conducted by Yunus Centre. She believes that it’s an honor for her to be selected as a delegate and she is grateful to Honorable Chairperson of GTT, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and Managing Director, Ms. Parveen Mahmud for giving her this opportunity. She hopes to share her knowledge and ideas about social business & Nobin Udyokta program in the summit which she will experience and learn by workplace in Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT).

Summit-2016 Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam

Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam is working as an Assistant Officer, Finance and MIS in Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) since June, 2016. She has completed her B.B.A from American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), majoring in Accounting & Finance and Human Resource Management. Moreover, she completed her MSc from Teesside University, Middlesborough, UK in Accounting and Finance. Ms. Naznin Akhter has been working as an Assistant Officer in Ms. Naznin Akhter in Summit-2015 Social Business Department of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) since 2014 & studying at Business level in ICMAB. She has completed her MBA and BBA from Comilla University. In 2015, she was selected as a delegate by Yunus Centre for One Young World Summit. The summit was held from 18– 21 November, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand. The summit was aimed to gather the brightest young people from around the world, empowering them to make lasting connections to create a positive change. The summit hosted different plenary sessions on Education, Terrorism, Women & Refugee Rights, Environment, Global Business, Social Business, Human Rights, Disability, Leadership and Peace & Security. The summit changed her view about life, dream and responsibilities. She learnt that as a young person, it is the right time for her to do something for the society, country and the world.
