thinks that in a time of increasing inequalities of wealth and resources, observing World Women’s Day firms its commitment to the women empowerment. In line of that, International Women’s Day was observed with its employees and guests at the Social Business Learning Centre (SBLC) of GTT on March 8, 2018. Through observing the day GTT expressed solidarity with UN’s slogan for International Women’s Day 2018 “Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives” along with IWD (International Women’s Day) theme- Press for Progress. On the occasion, Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) in her remarks, expressed that there are success on women’s empowerment, unfortunately there are stories of failures as well and we have to work harder to overcome these. She made it clear that GTT will do everything within its scope for women empowerment. Ms. Nurjahan Begum (Former Managing Director, Grameen Shakti, Grameen Bank) shared her experiences and thoughts regarding gender equality at home and work. Mr. Md. Ashraful Hassan (CEO, Grameen Telecom Trust & MD, Grameen Telecom) in his opening speech, pointed out the issue of women’s hardship to achieve success, he urged the guests and the employees of GTT for the better future of their girl child.


The other speakers were: Ms. Saleha Begum (Managing Director, Grameen Shakti Samajik Byabosha Ltd.), Ms. Nazneen Sultana (Managing Director, Grameen Communications), and Ms. Farjana Rafiq (Sr. manager, Admin & HR, Grameen Telecom). They all shared their own experiences, thoughts and opinions on women empowerment. They emphasized on working together to uproot inequalities from every step of our lives. After the speech of GTT MD and guests, two of the officers of GTT were invited to share their experiences on their participation in workshop and conference in abroad. Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam (Assistant Officer, Finance & Accounts, MIS) and Mr. Mohammad Sadmani Iqbal (Officer, HR & Admin)

conducted presentation on their recent participation in workshop and conference in Japan, Canada and Malaysia. The presentations depicted that in GTT, both female and male employees get the balanced share of opportunities to be trained and to attend conferences. There was a joint reading and recitation from the works of notable Bangladeshi women Ferdousi Priyobhasini and Novera Ahmed by Ms. Nazia Ferdows Shemme (Officer, Admin & Supply Chain, GTT) and Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam (Assistant Officer, Finance & Accounts, MIS). Ms. Shahela Khatun Akhi (Assistant Officer, F&A) and Mr. Aaron Nabi (Officer, Communication) presented songs on the occasion.

A Great Achievement

The Managing Director of GTT Ms. Parveen Mahmud has recently been awarded for her noble contribution in women empowerment. The recognition of Ms. Parveen Mahmud’s contribution came as winning an award ‘Joya Enlightened Award 2018’ on March 2, 2018, sponsored and organized by a national television channel RTV. She received this award individually along with other seven great women who contributed to our society in fields of music, literature, medical service, social work, creative art and sports overcoming all professional challenges. The employees congratulated her with a flower bouquet and she thanked everyone for the heartiest felicitations. Thus, GTT family shared the pride of her recognition. 02

AWARD GIVING CEREMONY Best Nobin Udyokta-NU (New Entrepreneur) and Best Field Staff-2018 Grameen Telecom Trust, Garmeen Shakti Samajik Baybsa Ltd., Grameen Trust and Grameen Kalyan organized an award giving ceremony at Grameen Bank auditorium on 10 June 2018. One (01) Best Nobin Udyokta and One (01) field staff from each organization were awarded with a crest and a certificate by Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus for their outstanding performance. The award giving ceremony started with the welcome speech by Prof. Yunus. In his speech he said, 'The Nobin Udyokta Program started with the objectives of employment generation and establish the

second generation of the Grameen Bank members as successful entrepreneurs. Both of the objectives proved to be successful, though we are still at the early stage'. The award winning Best NUs and the Best Staffs expressed their feelings in their short speech. They also answered different questions from the audience. The program was attended by distinguished guests including Mr. Salehuddin Ahmed (Former Governor, Bangladesh Bank).

Participation of GTT in Social Business Day-2018 GTT is going to participate with a 27-member team in the 8th Social Business Day-2018. Out of them, fifteen members are sponsored by GTT and rest are self sponsored. The event will be held in Bengaluru, India on 28-29 June, 2018. ISSUE NO. 14: MAY 2018

Event on Health Hepatitis B is a potentially lifethreatening liver infection. It can be prevented by vaccination in advance. G T T o rga n i ze d a H e p a t i t i s B vaccination program on April 02, 2018 in its corporate office considering necessity of the well-being of its staffs. The program was conducted by the Swedish NGO RADDA, MCHFP. The vaccine was supplied by GSK, Belgium. A total of 16 staffs received vaccine at a specially discounted cost.

GTT’S IN-HOUSE NEWS Social Business Monthly Co-ordination Meeting The Monthly Co-ordination meeting of Social Business department takes place in the 10th of each month. 11th Social Business Monthly Co-ordination meeting was held at Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) on April 10, 2018, presided over by Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust). Mr. Jayanta Kumer Bosu (Team Leader, Social Business, Grameen Telecom Trust) presented a detailed summary of the agendas of the subject matter. The panel officers presented reports on their

respective panel areas comprising of the activities related to the NU program.

32nd Board Meeting and AGM of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) GTT holds its board meeting regularly. In continuation, its 32nd Board Meeting and AGM was held together on March 12, 2018. Both the meetings were presided over by the Honorable Chairman and Managing Trustee of GTT, Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus. The meetings were held at GTT corporate office meeting room.

GTT Trainings Refreshers Training for the Field Staffs GTT gives emphasis on training for its staffs to improve their skills and performance. With this aim a field staff refreshers training on Nobin Udyokta-NU (New Entrepreneur) Program took place at Dinajpur on March 02, 2018. 72 field staffs from Gaibandha, Rangpur, Thakurgaon and Panchgarh under Rangpur division participated in the p ro g ra m . T h e p ro g ra m wa s inaugurated by Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director of GTT). Mr. Manjur Ahmed (Head of HR and Admin., GTT) and Mr. Jayanta Kumer Bosu (Team Leader, Social Business and Program Support) were present as facilitators in the program. Mr.

Refreshers Training for Unit-in-Charge Another Refreshers Training was organized for the Unit-inCharge and Area Managers of Jessore which took place at Jessore Sadar Unit Office of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) on March 22, 2018. The training was facilitated by Mr. Jayanta Kumer Bosu (Team L e a d e r, S B & Pro g ra m Support, GTT). In the training he discussed about inclusion of daughters in-law of members of Grameen Bank who do not have trade license a n d b a n k a c co u nt b u t involved in earning activities. entrepreneur selection, marking the faults, proper assessment of assets and investments, ensuring recoupment on scheduled date, use of NUPMS software, software based attendance and how to operate entries for recoupment. 17th Employee Induction Employee induction is regularly organized by Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) for its newly appointed staffs. GTT organized its 17th Employee Induction on February 01, 2018 at its Social Business Learning Centre (SBLC). Six (06) newly appointed staffs under Project & Infrastructure Development department and twenty-six (26) under Social Business department participated in the induction where they were acquainted to the vision, mission and goal of the organization. Mr. Sultan Ahmed Bhuiyan (FCA), Chief Financial Officer & Board Secretary of GTT inaugurated the Induction and welcomed the new employees. The program was facilitated by the Managers, Senior Managers and Heads of all concerned departments of GTT. Presentations were carried out to give the audience a better insight on the innovative concept of Social Business and the activities of GTT. All the department heads conducted presentations introducing their respective department’s activities and shared their views and working experience with GTT. 06

International Delegates and Visitors to GTT Gramen Telecom Trust (GTT) has successfully been promoting social business that encouraged professionals and students from all over the world to visit GTT in order to take insight of balancing profits and impact of social business. GTT received a number of visitors from different countries this year up to May 2018.

Delegates from UNIDO and Pana GTT always encourages and welcomes visitors to share its experience of promoting social business. Mr. Francesco Candelari (UNIDO) and Ms. Pezana Rexha (CEO, Pana, a Social Business, Albania) visited Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) to learn about its programs and activities on January 11, 2018. UNIDO is a specialized agency in the United Nations system to promote industrial development. Pana is an ecological upcycling company that employs people from marginalized groups.

In March, GTT facilitated two visits. On March12, 2018 a group of visitors from Berendina Development from Sri Lanka visited to learn about social business and activities of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT). The sixmember visitor team was headed by Mr. S. Vymthar (Regional Manager, Berendina Development). After the visit program Nobel Laureate Prof. Yunus joined the visitors for a photo session and informally talked with them. The visit was organized by Yunus Centre under its Immersion Program. Delegates from SPJIMR and MINES ParisTech Eight students from Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), India and one from MINES ParisTech, France visited GTT under Yunus Centre Immersion Program on March 21, 2018 to learn about social business and activities of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) facilitated by Mr. Abu Nayeem (Mamager, Social Business Program Support). The visitors learnt about the processes and methods of the Social Business programs through a power point presentation, a video and an interactive question-answer session.

Visitors from Germany, India and UK Yunus Centre organized a visit to Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) for five visitors from Germany, India and UK for their learning about social business and activities of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) on April 03, 2018. The visitors learnt about the process and method of the Social Business programs. Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) discussed GTT’s experience of operating social business as well as its successes and challenges.

Six visitors came to GTT from Brazil, Somalia, Vietnam and Bangladesh on April 11, 2018. Yunus Centre organized this visit to Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) under its Immersion Program. The visitors learned about the programs and projects of GTT from a power point and video presentation. They also asked questions on different aspects of the programs and projects in the interactive session of the visit program. The experience sharing session was facilitated by Mr. Abu Nayeem (Manager, Social Business Program Support), Aditi Kabir (Asst. Manager- SB & Communication) and he was supported by Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam (Asst. Officer-Finance & Accounts ).

Foreign Visitors at Design Lab A group of three foreign guests consisting of two students- Thomรกs Mattos (Brazil) and Alina Guyon (USA) and one executive- Sheryl Guyon (Executive Director, All the Sky Foundation, USA) attended as observer in 280th In-House Executive Design Lab that took place in Social Business Learning Centre (SBLC), GTT corporate office on April 19, 2018. The guests also exchanged their views with GTT official- Mr. Jayanta Kumer Foreign visitors at Design Lab Bosu (Team Leader, SB & Program Support) and Mr. Manjur Ahmed (Head of HR and Admin). The session was supported by Mr. Abu Nayeem (Manager, Social Business Program Support). The visitors asked questions to learn social business process in-depth. They also expressed their satisfaction upon observation of the design lab.
