CHRISTMAS MARKET: LAUSCHA

December 2, Outdoor Recreation, H15 According to modern legend, Lauscha is the birthplace of the modern glass Christmas tree ornament! See demonstrations of glass blowing, visit a plethora of glass boutiques, and observe the emergence of the famous Christmas tree decorations while strolling through the artisan village area in central Lauscha. Price: $59/adult, $45/child under 12

GINGERBREAD HOUSE CONTEST

December 5-14, Library, B49 The annual Gingerbread House contest is back at the Library! Pick up entry forms starting November 2. Submissions are due by November 30. Voting will begin on December 5, and winners will be announced on December 14.


CHRISTMAS MARKET: ERLANGEN

December 7, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Erlangen is a university city in the metropolitan region of Nuremberg, which happens to be the world headquarters of many internationally known corporations. This multi-cultural city has two fantastic Christmas Markets: one in traditional Bavarian flair, and the other following a medieval theme. Both are within a short walking distance from one another. Additionally, an ice skating rink is located directly next to the Christmas Markets. Price: $25/person

UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER CRAFT

December 7, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Library, B49 You bring the sweater, we provide the ugly. Come get in the holiday spirit with this ugly sweater craft! Bring your own sweater to decorate, and materials will be provided. Refreshments will also be served. Ages 16 and up

ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

December 8, 3:30-6:30 p.m., Command Building, B1 Come to the annual Tree Lighting and Christmas Market! The Tree Lighting Ceremony starts at 4:30 p.m., but stay for holiday crafts, sing alongs, Santa, free train rides for kids and more. There will also be vendors selling holiday wares, including homemade wreaths, fresh Christmas trees, holiday decorations and food.

CORKS & CANVAS

December 8, 6:45 p.m., The Zone, B150 Paint your heart away while laughing, joking and enjoying a glass of your favorite drink! During each class we paint a special surprise that will be unveiled the day of the event. Classes (and glasses!) fill up quickly, so register today! Price: $25/person (pre-register for $20)

CHRISTMAS MARKET: ROTHENBURG

December 9, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Considered to be one of the most romantic Christmas Markets in Germany, Rothenburg is truly a destination to behold! Its medieval stage is home to the annual “Reiterlesmarkt,” the Rothenburg Christmas Market named after a local Teutonic legend, which began during pre-Christian times as the story of a horrid rider who carried the souls of the dead. As Christianity spread through Europe, the story of the rider developed from a wild creature into a loving, gentle man who gives gifts to all people on Earth. Price: $39/adult, $20/child under 12

SKI/SNOWBOARD AT STUBAI*

December 14, Outdoor Recreation, H15 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The enticing smells of mulled wine and rum punch, roasted almonds, bratwurst and gingerbread fill the air. And it’s not only tiny tots who will have their eyes all a-glow as the shoppers bustle out to open the holiday season in Germany. Join Hohenfels Outdoor Recreation to go along walking in a winter wonderland! Price: $29/person

CHRISTMAS MARKET: WUERZBURG

December 16, Outdoor Recreation, H15 The tradition of Wuerzburg’s Christmas Market has existed since the early 1800s. The smell of mulled wine and gingerbread, the marvelous scenery of the market square with the Marienkapelle and Falkenhaus, and over 100 traders with art, craftsmanship, gift items, sweet treats and winter pleasures make this market something special. Price: $39/adult, $20/child under 12

CYS “ALL STAR” PROGRAM

Our staff work very hard to make sure that Children are well cared for and have every opportunity to grow and develop. The ‘All Star’ program is set up to show staff how much we appreciate them and recognize their tireless efforts of caring for our Children and Youth. Please help us by writing ‘star notes’ for excellence that you see. Each facility has a special location for the ‘All Star’ cards to be posted. At the end of each month, the cards will be collected and an award will be given for the caregiver who has the most ‘Star Cards’.

FINANCIALLY FIT December 1 & 15, 9 a.m. - noon, B10 A hands-on interactive class that teaches the importance of goal setting, finding out your net worth (shows how much you owe compared to what you own), budget setting techniques, a reality check (do I really spend what I think I spend?), setting up a spending plan to follow your budget and debt reduction strategies.

STRESS MANAGEMENT December 5, 10-11 a.m., B10 Learn about the different kinds of stress and how problematic stress an affect your mental and physical health. Identify your warning signs and the sources of your stress then learn how to better manage stress by, among other things, learning to let go.

GERMAN 101 December 12-15, 5:15-7:15 p.m., B10 An introduction to German will make it easier for you to order food in restaurants, shop, travel, ask for directions and understand German doctors. Make yourself more comfortable living in Germany by learning basic phrases. IMPORTANT NOTE: These are sequential classes that build on each other. Course consists of four 2-hour classes.

ANGER MANAGEMENT December 19, 10-11 a.m., B10 Anger is a natural emotional reaction. If not managed well, however, it can cause many problems from health issues to problems getting along with others, including your husband or wife. Learning more effective ways of dealing with conflict may just help you live a happier and more peaceful life.

RED PIN BOWLING Fridays, 6 p.m., Bowling Center, B14 A Red Pin is added to every lane. If the Red Pin is in the #1 position and you bowl a strike that frame, you win a free game. Attendant must be informed and pin spot verified before bowling.

OUTDOOR RECREATION INDOOR CLIMBING

Tuesdays No experience is required to have a go at this sport. On alternating Tuesdays, “boulder” and “top rope” at the local gyms of Nuremburg and Regensburg. Join the greater outdoor recreation community and learn why climbing is one of the best social exercises for all ages

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9-11 a.m., B321 This twice weekly ACS playgroup offers a fun and diverse format featuring music time, free play and special activity stations. Redefined for ages 5 and under, this program offers flexibility and opportunity to meet new people who are raising young children in our community.

CHESS CLUB

LAPSIT STORYTIME

Wednesdays, 11:10 a.m. - noon, Library, B49 A fun weekly learning event full of stories, music and play for infants and their parents. This is a great opportunity to introduce the basic building blocks of early literacy while establishing positive habits and routines in reading for babies and their parents.

CHILDREN’S STORYTIME

Thursdays, 10-11 a.m., Library, B49 Bring your little one to the library and listen to stories read aloud by our library staff. What better way to spend your day than to be in the imagination of a child and a good book!

LEGO CLUB

Show us your Lego skills and participate in fun Lego themed events. There are always interesting activities planned, such as Lego Car racing, so join us for all things Lego! CYS SKIESUnlimited Classes SKIESUnlimited stands for “School of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills” with the word “Unlimited” for the unlimited possibilities that this program provides Children and Youth. Classes include Break Dancing, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Tiny Tumblers, Karate, Tutoring, Soccer Skills Academy and Yoga.
