LEARN TO SKI/SNOWBOARD IN GROSSER ARBER

January 6 & 20, Outdoor Recreation, H15 From never clipping into bindings to carving edges, Hohenfels Outdoor Recreation has everything beginners need to start skiing and snowboarding. Spend the day on the slopes of what is called the Mont Blanc of the Bavarian Forest: Grosser Arber. Lessons are provided by professionally certified PSIA and AASI instructors. Includes lift passes. Price: $99/person

SHARK ECOLOGY

January 8, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Many humans fear sharks, but is that reputation deserved? In the SSI Shark Ecology program, learn how sharks and their behavior are often misunderstood, and how to observe them safely in their natural habitat. Upon completion, earn the SSI Shark Ecology Specialty certification. Includes e-learning course material and classroom instruction. Price: $125/person

SKI/SNOWBOARD AT WILDER KAISER*

January 12, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Take the family on a ski/snowboard trip to Brixen im Thale, one of the oldest villages in the Tyrolean lowlands, the centre of Austria’s largest interconnected ski area. Ski and snowboard lessons are available daily by professionally certified PSIA and AASI instructors. Includes lodging with full-board and daily transportation to the slopes. Half price equipment rentals available for participants. Lift passes not included. Price: $369/adult, $199/child under 12

FURRY FRIENDS SLEEPOVER

January 18, 4 p.m., Library, B49 Bring your stuffed friend to a special Storytime, then leave your stuffed friend for a fun sleepover at the library! Who knows what mischief they might get into? Come back after 10 a.m. the next day for a light breakfast snack and to pick up your furry friend. Photo evidence of their adventures will be waiting for you. Ages 3-10

SNOWSHOE HIKE IN FICHTELGEBIRGE

January 20, Outdoor Recreation, H15 The Schneeberg (Snow Mountain) in Fichtelgebirge north of Bayreuth tops out at over 1,000 meters in elevation, and it is an excellent location for enjoying the natural scenery and snowy landscape with the help of traditional snowshoes in the deep winter months. This moderately difficult snowshoe hike passes multiple towering granite rock formations, such as the Rudolfstein and the Drei Bruder, and continues toward the highest point in upper Bavaria, the Schneeberg. Please dress for the weather, wear waterproof and insulated shoes, and bring along hydrating liquids. Cameras are a must! Price: $45/adult

January 22, Outdoor Recreation, H15 The SSI Equipment Techniques program reviews how to choose, maintain and store the Total Diving System, which ensures performance and increases longevity of equipment. Upon course completion, earn the SSI Equipment Techniques Specialty certification. Includes e-learning course material and classroom instruction. Price: $125/person

SKI/SNOWBOARD AT THE ZUGSPITZE

January 26, Outdoor Recreation, H15 The Zugspitze Arena consists of seven fantastic ski/snowboard resorts that can be reached quickly and are skiable on the Zugspitze Arena ski card. The area consists of 139 kilometers of rideable snow and 58 lifts going to the top of the mountains. The Zugspitze Arena offers terrain with enough variety to ensure an unforgettably fun experience for everyone. Ski and snowboard lessons are available daily by professionally certified PSIA and AASI instructors. Half price equipment rentals available for participants. Lift passes not included. Price: $359/person

CYS “ALL STAR” PROGRAM

Our staff work very hard to make sure that Children are well cared for and have every opportunity to grow and develop. The ‘All Star’ program is set up to show staff how much we appreciate them and recognize their tireless efforts of caring for our Children and Youth. Please help us by writing ‘star notes’ for excellence that you see. Each facility has a special location for the ‘All Star’ cards to be posted. At the end of each month, the cards will be collected and an award will be given for the caregiver who has the most ‘Star Cards’.

In addition to learning some German language, you will explore local community and find out how your new community works without doing everything yourself. This is a great opportunity to make some new friends at the same time. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9-11 a.m., B321 This twice weekly ACS playgroup offers a fun and diverse format featuring music time, free play and special activity stations. Redefined for ages 5 and under, this program offers flexibility and opportunity to meet new people who are raising young children in our community.

STRESS MANAGEMENT January 2, 10-11 a.m., B10 Learn about the different kinds of stress and how problematic stress an affect your mental and physical health. Identify your warning signs and the sources of your stress then learn how to better manage stress by, among other things, learning to let go.

ANGER MANAGEMENT January 16, 10-11 a.m., B10 Anger is a natural emotional reaction. If not managed well, however, it can cause many problems from health issues to problems getting along with others, including your husband or wife. Learning more effective ways of dealing with conflict may just help you live a happier and more peaceful life.
