HUNTING FISHING & SHOOTING
USAG Grafenwoehr has two areas exclusively for U.S hunters
E A TI
customs and traditions
Hunting in Europe and Germany is steeped in customs and traditions and has often been exclusively for the upper classes until recently. Gun ownership in Germany is a privilege not a right and they have strict guidelines that must be followed to own, store and fire a weapon. One way is to pass an authorized course that Hunting, Fishing and Sports Shooting offers once a year. Course lasts approximately 10 weeks and meets all the requirements of German law. The course includes blocks of instruction in safety, customs, traditions, hooting, proper weapons handling, laws, and all game animals in Germany.
The On Post - Hunting permits for the on-post area are issued via lottery. In early
spring, interested hunters submit their application to vie for a permit, from these applications 10 names are drawn for permits that run from May 1 to January 31. The on-post area is an individual driven program where maintenance, up keep, feeding and tracking seat rotation is handled by permit holders with guidance from the HFS Program Manager. The program is a great way to experience how German hunters are expected to manage their hunting areas; and, presents an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view and harvest game one would not normally see in America. To enter the lottery you must be in possession of a valid hunting license the day of the drawing, and assigned to the Grafenwoehr Military Community.
The Off Post Hunting Area (Egerstadtwald) is approximately 40 minutes from Main Post. It is a weekend guided hunt for Roe Deer, Wild Boar, Red Deer, Sika Deer. The hunt is conducted by the HFS office and open to all U.S personal with a valid hunting licenses.
