A fire of unknown origin destroyed the Red Barn Wedding Venue and Event Center at 200 Iowa Blvd. on Saturday night. Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District Fire Chief Kenny Roberts said firemen were called out around midnight and found the structure fully engulfed upon arrival. The cause of the fire is undetermined, however, it is not believed to be suspicious in nature. The North Central Missouri College Foundation had held its “Pirates Ball” at the venue earlier in the evening and the last person had left the building around 10 p.m. Firemen were at the scene around two hours. Two area meetings are scheduled in March to present information regarding changes in health care services for veterans. The first meeting is for the public and will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 at the Grand River Multipurpose Center in Chillicothe. Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend and ask questions about the health care changes affecting veterans in the rural areas. Service Officer Wayne Kleinschmidt said the changes being made by Veterans Administration will allow those in the rural area to be seen by a local VA certified health care provider rather than having to travel for their medical visits. Under the changes, local visits to VA approved health care providers would be covered by veterans benefits, he said. The Trenton meeting is for all area health care providers, physicians, billing specialists, etc. only and will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13 at the Trenton First Baptist Church fellowship hall. That meeting will also focus on the changes in health care for veterans and the regulations in meeting those needs. Kleinschmidt said a shuttle bus will be transporting veterans to the March 5 meeting in Chillicothe, leaving from the Joseph L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 parking lot. Persons wanting to reserve a ride are asked to call 359-2078.
