Briefs... Park Board Agenda The Trenton Park Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday at city hall. Items on the announced agenda include discussion and approval of a chain link fence bid and discussion/approval of a playground border material bid. Reports from the pool, grounds and facilities committees, as well as from the superintendent, are also on the agenda.

It was another successful year for the Festival of Trees, which was held this year at the Red Barn Event Center. A large crowd attended the festival, which kicked off with a parade, led by Festival King and Queen Zac Allen and Tabby Glenn, pictured above, at right. There was also entertainment throughout the evening, which concluded with an auction of donated holiday items. Proceeds from the event will go to provide activities for developmentally disabled individuals in Grundy County.

‘Joyous Sounds Of Christmas’

Annual Winter Concert Set For Dec. 14 The Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra will present its annual winter concert, “Joyous Sounds of Christmas,” at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the First Baptist Church in Trenton. Holiday music will be performed. The doors of the sanctuary will open at 2:30 p.m. at the conclusion of the dress rehearsal and picturetaking session. The program celebrates the beginning of the 10th season for the GRVCO, which epresents the north

central Missouri communities of Cameron, Chillicothe, Gallatin, Galt, Jamesport, Laredo, Ludlow, Marshall, Mercer, Milan, Pattonsburg, Princeton and Trenton. The choir will open the program with “Here We Come A-Caroling”, “Deck the Halls”, “O Come and Sing of Christmas” and “Glory Hallelujah.” The orchestra will then perform “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, “Three Noels”, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “All Is Calm.” To complete the

program, the choir and orchestra will combine to present “When Love Crossed Over” and “Hallelujah Chorus.” Linda Arnold is conductor of the choir. Buddy Hannaford is the orchestra conductor. With Holiday Hoops 2019 just weeks away, a training meeting has been scheduled for first time volunteers or those simply wanting a refresher in hosting the 15th annual event. Volunteers are encouraged to attend a one-hour session at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 in the Ketcham Community Center. Volunteers who agreed to serve as team hosts or be responsible for manning the official game clock are encouraged to attend the session. Individuals who are unable to attend but want more information are asked to contact Maxey at 359-7244.

Events At Kirksville, Chillicothe

THS Students Chosen For Honor Groups Five members of the Trenton High School Band participated in two area honor bands held in November. Senior Mackenzie Klinginsmith, junior Amanda Parrack, sophomores Mari Atup and Trager Leeper and freshman Connor Campbell took part in the events held on Nov. 18 at Truman State University in Kirksville and on Nov. 24 in Chillicothe. Truman State University held its 22nd annual honor band event on Nov. 18. TSU Director of Bands Emeritus Dan Peterson was the clinician. Students rehearsed all day and participated in a masterclass on all state audition strategies. Seniors were also given the chance to audition for scholarships. A concert was held in the evening, followed by a performance of the TSU Wind Symphony. Miss Klinginsmith was the 13th chair clarinet in the band while Miss Parrack was a second chair tenor saxophone. Miss Atup was the fifth chair flute, Leeper was the fifth chair trumpet and Campbell was the 12th chair clarinet. The North Central Missouri BandSee Band, Page 4

National Weather Service Mostly sunny during the first part of the week, with highs in the lower 50s and lows in the upper 20s. The high at Trenton on Wednesday, Nov. 27 was 42, Thursday’s high was 34, Friday’s high was 39, Saturday’s high was 58 and Sunday’s high was 38, with a low of 31. A total of .46 of an inch of rain fell during that time. The high on Sunday at the Government Weather Station near Spickard was 33, the low was 20.

The Trenton Middle School instrumental music department will hold its winter concert on Friday, Dec. 6. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Trenton  High School gymnasium. Performances will be given by the fifth grade band, the sixth grade band and the combined seventh and eighth grade band. Music will include a variety of holiday and concert band literature. Prior to the TMS concert, the Rissler Elementary School will be holding its Christmas program at the Ketcham Community Center. Students in grades two, three and four, along with the Honor Choir, will be performing a variety of holiday songs. The concert begins at 6 p.m., with children to be at the KCC no later than 5:45 p.m.
