Signing Off on a Successful Year for Gosford City Council
Take a look back on some of Gosford City Council’s fantastic achievements from 2014.
Residents are being reminded that Gosford City Council will close for the Christmas and New Year break from Wednesday 24 December 2014 until Friday 2 January 2015 (inclusive). However, there are some areas where essential services will be maintained during the closure – including lifeguard, water treatment, waste and library related services. For urgent council emergencies (such as water main breaks), the community will still be able to contact council 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 4325 8222 during this period. Normal waste collection services will also continue over the Christmas and New Year break. As Council gets ready to sign off for the year, Chief Executive Officer Paul Anderson passed on his best wishes to the community for the festive season. “It has been a year of great momentum and
exciting changes here in Gosford City, and I’d especially like to thank our community for all its passion and effort during 2014,” Mr Anderson said. “Now it’s time for everyone to take a wellearned break and spend quality time with their family and friends. “I would like to wish all our residents and visitors a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year. “Please remember to stay safe if you’re out on the water, at the beach or travelling on the road over the holidays. “And as the weather heats up, please beware of bushfire risks across our region,” he said. Two major residential developments worth over $24 million in and around Gosford’s city centre have been approved by Gosford City Council.
In the lead up to a busy Christmas period, we at times put our health on hold to fit everything in.
Councillors have also supported a number of key incentives to drive the city centre’s revitalisation. Gosford City’s Mayor Lawrie McKinna said the approval of the residential developments was a great way to end a record year for the area. “This year has seen a record amount of potential development worth over $500 million lodged with Council for the Gosford CBD area and its surrounds,” Mayor McKinna said. “Council has now given the green light to a 14-storey, $12 million mixed use building that includes 50 residential units and ground floor commercial premises. “We’ve also given the go ahead for a $12.2 million, six-storey building comprising 54 residential units on York Street in Point Frederick. “I’m confident that these latest approvals signal the start of turning this year’s investor confidence and development potential into reality,” he said.

Public Notices City Of Gosford Recreation Assistance Program Public Exhibition of Planning Proposal Gosford City Council’s Recreation Assistance Program grant is now open for applications for the 2015-2016 funding round. Grants of up to $5,000 are available to sporting and recreation clubs within the Gosford Local Government Area. Successful applicants are funded on a dollar for dollar basis up to 50% of the total project cost, with a total funding pool of $50,000. The provision of materials, and to a lesser extent voluntary labour is allowed as part of an applicant’s contribution to the project cost. Eligible projects include: upgrade of buildings or recreation facilities, fencing, floodlighting, playing field improvements, hard court facility development, equipment (e.g line marking, training aids) and sun protection. Applicants are ranked by Gosford City Sports Council prior to consideration by Council. Final selection is based on Council’s Priority Rating Guidelines. City Of Gosford Gosford Regional Playground Strategy Committee Community representatives are invited to apply to join a Council Committee engaged in planning for the development of creative and inclusive playgrounds across the Gosford Local Government Area. Council is committed to improving and investing in playgrounds to meet the needs of local communities. The Committee includes two Councillors, Council staff and up to six community member representatives of relevant interest groups. The function of this group is to work in partnership with the broader community and identify opportunities for improved playground facilities across the Gosford LGA, with a particular focus on providing accessible and creative playgrounds. 2014: A Year of Achievements & Drive for Gosford City An enormous $464 million worth of development applications were received in August for the Gosford CBD area alone.
Additionally, over $270 million worth of development applications have been approved in Gosford City this year, setting our region up to be a hive of activity in 2015. Doing business in Gosford City
is now even easier following the adoption of Gosford City Council’s Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2014 by the NSW State Government in February. The LEP is designed to simplify the planning process across the Gosford LGA and was implemented as part of the State Government’s planning reform to standardise planning processes across NSW. Also in February, The NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure declared an area of the Gosford waterfront a State Significant Site (SSS), an announcement which recognises the site as being of major importance to regional development. Council rolled out the first stage of its new website in July, with a host of new features. Although many exciting changes have been made to the website, the address remains the same – www.gosford.nsw.gov.au

Kibble Park was turned into an internet hotspot this year after council switched on free, public WiFi. You can access it by logging on to the network ‘Gosfordfreewifi’.
In 2014, the three 50+ Leisure and Learning centres coordinated 90 weekly programs for 1,975 members, plus 52 seniors week events.
Booking Valuable Time at our Libraries In 2014, the Gosford City Library branches were a hive of activity. There were 845 weekly children’s events held at our Library branches including ‘Storytime’, ‘Sing, Read and Rhyme’, and ‘2 – 3, What About Me?’ There were also 100 adults events (including book clubs, knitters groups and meet and greets) and 90 special events.
Ettalong Beach Foreshore
Taking the Stage
The $5 million Ettalong Beach redeveloped foreshore reserve was officially opened in October.
Volunteers and staff welcomed over 62,000 patrons as they attended more than 200 productions at Laycock Street Community Theatre.
Council contributed $2.6 million towards revitalising the foreshore, with the Australian Government providing $2 million. The NSW Government supported the redevelopment with $300,000 through its Metropolitan Greenspace Program and $83,000 from the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage.
Saying Hello to Zali the Zebra A road safety mascot, Zali the Road Safety Zebra was introduced to us this year to promote road safety.
Wreck of the Maitland A local history book written by council’s Local Studies Librarian Geoffrey Potter and published by council was launched earlier in the year at Kincumber Library titled Wreck of the Maitland: A Scene to Make the Angels Weep.
Operating Surplus Service with a Smile In 2014, council’s customer service staff assisted over 22,000 people at our main customer service centre. A further 146,000+ phone calls were answered also in our call centre.
Our community can be confident that council is financially sound and in a strong position to guide the region’s growth and provide quality services.
The Great Outdoors This year, over 27,000 adults and 6,200 children enjoyed time at the pristine Patonga Camping Ground.
Zali will help council to promote a range of programs for young people, older residents and in key areas such as bicycle and road education, child restraints and seatbelts, speeding and drink driving.
Caring for our Kids In 2014, Gosford City Council cared for and educated over 385 children at its four child care centres.
Our Positive Ageing Strategy Council adopted the Central Coast Positive Ageing Strategy. It’s a regional approach by Gosford City and Wyong Councils to plan for our region’s ageing population.
Council announced that it has delivered a $12 million operating surplus for the 2013-14 financial year. We’ve also successfully lobbied both levels of government to get the funding we need to deliver important service improvements and major infrastructure upgrades.

Health Checks In 2014, over 170 health inspections were carried out to food shops, skin penetration premises and public pools by Gosford City Council.
In January this year, council welcomed seven apprentices and eight trainees as they commenced their employment with us. Also, 15 student engineers commenced six month internships with council in 2014, under an industry partnership arrangement with the University of Technology, Sydney.
A City Full of Bookworms This year, over 800,000 books were lent out to members of Gosford City Library. 12,200 eBooks were borrowed and over 5,100 people joined Gosford City Library this year – that’s almost 100 people joining per week!
