JOE KOZIK

GONZAGA COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL

April 5, 2025

The Joe Kozik Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame pays tribute to Gonzaga’s rich athletic legacy by recognizing outstanding contributions made by athletes, coaches, administrators, and teams.

The Hall of Fame also highlights the central role athletic competition plays in the lives of our students and our school community—sportsmanship, teamwork, grit, and discipline are just some of the things that the young men of Eye Street learn and experience through sports.

Every year, the Gonzaga Hall of Fame Selection Committee takes nominations from the school community and selects a new class of inductees, who are honored at a ceremony and reception on campus. Our goal is to celebrate those who have contributed significantly to the program’s growth and spirit, and who continue to reflect Ignatian values such as integrity, perseverance and humility.

Kozik Athletic Hall of Fame

April 5, 2025

Dear Gonzaga Alumni and Friends,

I am delighted to welcome you to the Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Throughout my time at Gonzaga—first as a student, then as a teacher, and now as President—I’ve come to appreciate how much athletic competition shapes our students and strengthens our school community. As they compete in the sports they love, our young men learn and experience teamwork, perseverance, discipline, and, of course, the satisfying thrill of earning a victory through hard work. Whether they are competing on the field, on the court, in or on the water, on the ice, or supporting their peers in the stands, all are enriched by the athletic life of our school.

Today, we honor a group of individuals who have contributed to that legacy of excellence: Mike Rooths ‘76, Ike Wilkins ‘92, Tripp O’Brien ‘93, Taurean Marshall ‘03, Ryan McCabe ‘03, and the 2009 Crew National Champion Boat. We celebrate them not only as outstanding athletes but also as role models who embody the very best of Gonzaga. Their hard work, dedication, and generosity inspire us all, and we are proud to recognize them today.

Sincerely, with warmest congratulations,

The Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes Eagles that have excelled in spor t so demonstrably as to set themselves apar t from their peers and teammates At some level this award is the antithesis of Mike Rooths the man Mike never sought to set himself apar t, a consummate teammate, always generous with his talent, time, and energy, and relentlessly optimistic and suppor tive of fellow Eagles and his teams

Yes, a spectacular athlete, but more impor tantly, Mike has always been a Man for Others, and we 76ers are proud to claim him and celebrate this recognition with him.

TAUREAN!

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR INDUCTION INTO THE HALL OF FAME. Your talent and contributions to every sport you played inspired us all. We are so proud of you.

INDUCTEES

The Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame honors these men whose athletic careers at Gonzaga were truly extraordinary. By doing so, the alumni strive to promote the Jesuit ideal of “mens sana in corpore sano.” A sound mind in a healthy body. Indeed, it is the pursuit of this ideal that makes all Gonzaga studentathletes special.

Athletes, teams, coaches, administrators, and others are eligible for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Athletes must have attended Gonzaga, but other categories are open to non-alumni. Primary criteria include athletic ability, sportsmanship, Ignatian character, leadership/effort on and off the field, and contributions to the team(s), games or sport(s) he participated in, coached or supported. The goal of the committee is to have the Hall of Fame members exemplify the very best in sports and the very best of Gonzaga. They are testimony to the positive character attributes that sports instill in young people and all Gonzaga students.

You can nominate someone for the Gonzaga Hall of Fame at: www.gonzaga.org/AHoF-Nomination
