We did litter picking in Luton, a Coronation campfire for almost 400 girls in Bedford.

Harlington Brownies ran a stall at a local Coronation event.

Dunstable were represented at a local Volunteer expo.

Surprise Visit for Brownie!

One awesome Brownie from 3rd Stopsley Brownies received a wonderful surprise from her local Fire Service. She had written a letter to the Fire Fighters thanking them for keeping her and her community safe and protected Next thing she knew they surprised her at her front door with a special visit to say, 'Thank You' After she got over her shock, she had a brilliant time chatting to them all and having a tour of the Fire Engine!

‘Training Day’ for Brownies

2nd Limbury had a super fun day at Network Rail learning all about what they do. Brownies quizzed the head of Timetable Production on how the train timetables work, they played with mini robots to learn about track and signals, tried on Track Side PPE and built a bridge out of marshmallows

Monopoly Run Live

1st Arlesey Guides and Rangers, 5th Stopsley Guides and Shillington Guides and Rangers from around the county had an awesome time taking part in the Monopoly Run Live in London

They took in lots of sights along the way and two Rangers made their Promise inside one of London's iconic red Telephone Boxes

There were varying challenges, including hugging a tree.

Madz’s Magic Carpet

Madison was a Rainbow and a Brownie After moving onto Guides she took time out of Girlguiding, to focus on school and college, but now she is back at 1st Stockwood rainbows Here she is recreating a Photo taken in 2018, while the Rainbows had UMA fun doing Madz’s Magic Carpet. It’s great having Madison back with us The leaders are really grateful to her answering a Facebook post saying we needed more leaders at Rainbows.

Royal Navy Challenge

1st Sandy Guides were challenged by the Royal Navy to build a shape that they could all get inside, and also a stretcher - this had to all be done within a certain timeframe Such a great way to help develop team working skills

Well Done Brownies!

Congratulations to 4th Dunstable Brownies who hosted a Coffee Morning for the Dunstable Mayor's charities and raised a whopping £365 70 Brilliant!

Great Ormond Street Fundraider

The Phoenix Patrol at 1st Kempston Guides held a Bake Sale to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Children's Charity. The Guides decided how they were going to fundraise then planned and ran the sale Together they raised a brilliant £55 55 Well done Guides!

Gold,Silver & Bronze Awards

Many congratulations to Chloe from the 20th Luton Guides who has achieved her Gold Award, not only that, Chloe is the first in her unit to complete the challenge Well done Chloe!

Congratulations to three Brownies from 3rd Flitwick Brownies who have all achieved their Gold Awards Great work! Congratulations to 3rd St. Mary’s Rainbows where two members achieved their Gold Awards Well Done Girls!

Huge congratulations to Georgie from 1st Flitwick Brownies who has achieved her Gold Award Well done Georgie!

Whipsnade Zoo

Did you come to the zoo with us when we visited as a county back in 2021? If you did and loved it, or maybe you missed it, remember the Whipsnade challenge is still available, find details on our website. Getting involved you will find out about the History of the Zoo, think about Conservation and have some animal fun To date we have raised over £3,700 for Whipsnade.

Teaching Talons

Ramridge Rainbows were super proud to have been able to present 2 Bronze and 2 Silver Awards Brilliant!

8th Leighton Buzzard Brownies with their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. Well done Brownies!

2nd Harlington Brownies were delighted to receive a visit from Teaching Talons The Brownies met lots of amazing animals and were really keen to find out lots more about them all

Queens Guide Award

Huge congratulations to Lauren from Caddington Rainbows who was awarded her Queens Guide Award in February. The award was presented at the Stockwood Districts Thinking Day celebrations which were also attended by Olivia our baby elephant Well done Lauren - an amazing achievement!

50 Years Award

Back in November Sue Hunt presented Gillian Plummer, Slip End Brownies, with her 50 year Service Award A very Wise Owl indeed. Well Done Gillian and all those who received long service awards, and other recognition awards last year We like valuing our volunteers annually.

Gold Voyage Award

Many Congratulations to Angela Aldridge on gaining her Trefoil Guild Gold Voyage Award. The award was launched in October 2013 and there are three Voyage Award levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Award is designed as a personal challenge and is a long-term commitment that asks members to extend their skills and be active citizens of the world.

Volunteering Matters

Climbing Club

The climbing club meet monthly at The Big Rock, Milton Keynes, 7pm to 9pm. The days of the week vary each month

Cost is £14 50 per session, and is open to Guide age up

Girls can book directly, they do not need to attend as a unit, although they can.

If attending individually, please share paperwork with your unit leader

Club dates are 14th June, 29th June, 13th July, 26th July, 17th August, 7th September and 20th September For more information email climbing@bedsguiding.org.uk

International Opportunities

Daisy and Megan, from Bedfordshire, are off to the 25th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ25) in August. To get to know the other Guides and Scouts in the unit (25), they have attended varying camps and residentials Most recently, they had a brilliant time on the Isle of Wight They went to a UV disco, learned the ukulele, and some magic tricks There were inflatables, a visit to the zoo, to name just a few of the super fun activities on offer. There was a selection weekend held at Wrest Park recently for Guides interested in future international opportunities If you are interested in travelling abroad with Girlguiding, look out for opportunities advertised GOLD 2024 (Guiding Overseas linked with development) applications for next year have now opened, on the Girlguiding UK website and close on Sunday 4 June. Applicants must by aged 18, by 1 February 2024, and under 30, by the end of October 2024 They must also be available to attend: Go for Gold Weekend, Bonaly Scout Centre, Edinburgh, 29 September1 October 2023 and, if selected a list of further dates. There are no GOLD projects in 2025, so if anyone is getting close to the cut-off age, they might want to consider applying now

We hope this has given you a taste of what is available in the C y y g , while others are for individuals to do Also, all our leaders are volunteers and may not be able to take girls to all the events Please keep this in mind when talking to the unit leaders about events Also we are always looking for people to help with events and meetings This could be helping out at the odd meeting, helping plan or be an extra adult on an outing or help put craft packs together or do the accounts What we can achieve is endless, when we do it together
