Wrest Park Quest
We have a link with English Heritage to run a quest for units at Wrest Park. The Quest has recently been revamped and is open to all age groups. Even if you have been before, the new quest has a lot to offer. Explore the Historic grounds. Follow the clues and have a brilliant day out. At the end of the day, gain your quest badge. The day take about 4 hours and is done as a unit. Ask your unit leader if they would like your help to plan or run a visit.

2022 - ADVENTURE Shuttleworth Quest
Last year we were delighted to add Shuttleworth to our list of partners.
This is a fantastic day out at Shuttleworth with STEM activities for all age groups.
Start off with the Garden Quest in the beautiful Swiss gardens. See if you can find all the sites. Don’t forget to see if you can spot the white peacock while you are there and say hello.
Then on to the collection to discover about the inspirational women and their achievements. Be ready for some challenges as you go. This again is a unit activity. It is a full day from 10am to 5pm - don’t forget to collect your Quest badge before going home. Ask your unit leader if they’d like your help to plan a visit.
Whipsnade Challenge
Whipsnade challenge. This is a challenge that we started in lock down. It can be done as a unit or on your own and works well for unit meetings, zoom or at home.
This could be a great activity for the Easter holidays and is suitable for all age groups. We wanted to have fun and help the zoo.

Whipsnade Fun Day Visit
To support this great challenge we organised a fun day trip to Whipsnade Zoo back in September 2021. 1,200 members travelled from across the county on 23 coaches for our “Welcome back to Guiding” party. Shuttleworth Vintage Display camp
Last year over a fun two days in September we took part in putting on a Vintage Camp display for the Shuttleworth Vintage weekend. Girls and leaders got to dress the part, put up tents and cook dishes that would have been served at camp many years ago. We have been asked to return this year to run a similar display camp, so are now looking for Guides/Rangers keen to get involved (Guides will get their History of Guiding badge). If you are interested, please speak to your unit leader.
2022 - FUN Dragons in Tiaras
This is our Royal Garden Party for Brownies being held at Wrest Park in June 2022. Play games on the lawn, have some Dragontastic fun in the craft tent and try your hand at some skills from 1805 with our very own crew from Admiral Nelsons ship.
This is a limited numbers event and is group only. If your unit is one that is taking part, then do come and join the fun.
County Camp
Guiding looks where possible to offer girls of Guide and Ranger age the chance to camp. In order to offer this to the girls our volunteers need to gain a camp license which takes a lot of work in their spare time. If this appeals to you then talk to the unit leader about the opportunities available and how you can help the unit to take part. This year County Camp is at Shuttleworth and runs from Monday 25th July - Friday 29th July, and is ideal for first time campers, as it is local and short. Girls might even be able to attend with others in their division if their unit isn’t coming.

Climbing
The climbing club for girls of Guide age and upward and starts March 2022. It will be available to groups and individuals. For more details of this activity. email events@bedsguiding.org.uk
Archery
We are pleased to have a great Archery team in Bedford who can offer this activity to girls of Brownie, Guide age and above. For Rainbows, Sucker archery. As events are planned , details will come out to the units. These will be a mix of Group events and events that girls can attend as individuals.
Have you met Olivia? International Event
Olivia is our Baby Elephant - have you met Olivia? Would you like to? She is currently touring the county. Why not ask your leader if she can visit your unit meeting, and you could do the Olivia Challenge pack at the same time, and get a badge. All proceeds go to Keech Hospice.
These have all had to be on hold for the past few years but we are again looking at international trips. These would be available for individuals from the age of 13 up to go to selection events for the chance to represent Girlguiding Bedfordshire abroad. If this interests you , then log that interest with your leader or email events@bedsguiding.org.uk giving reasons why you think you would be suitable and details of the unit. Then when events come up you will be invited to be put forward for possible selection.
RSPB
RSPB Girlguiding Partnership and Together with nature activity pack - watch out and ask your leaders about the RSPB Girlguiding activity pack, and if you’re interested offer to help your leaders arrange a trip to a local nature reserve.
Water Activities
Getting on the water. We are pleased to be able to offer a range of water activities from time to time. Plans are at present under way for a County boating weekend - Watch this space...

LONE Units Lone Guiding was set-up in Bedfordshire during lockdown, giving girls the opportunity and flexibility to be part of the Girlguiding movement without having to attend face to face meetings. We are continuing to offer this way of guiding for Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.
Girls can work independently through the programme doing the activities by themselves or with family and friends. They can work towards badges whiles learning new skills and having fun. Our Leadership team will support the girls travelling through the programme through by post, email, Facebook, WhatsApp and phone. They will also have the opportunity to join in a Zoom meeting once or twice a term so they can meet with other Lone members and will be invited to get involved with events at County and Division level. We offer places for girls new to guiding, for those girls that are moving up and cannot make a specific day commitment. For more details email: BedsLoneGuiding@gmail.com“

We hope this has given you a taste of what is available in the County. Do be aware than some are unit only bookings, while others are for individuals to do. Also, all our leaders are volunteers and may not be able to take girls to all the events. Please keep this in mind when talking to the unit leaders about events. Also we are always looking for people to help with events and meetings. This could be helping out at the odd meeting, helping plan or be an extra adult on an outing or help put craft packs together or do the accounts. What we can achieve is endless, when we do it together.
