letter from the Headmistress

This week, we have all been lucky enough to experience a good dose of enrichment I have had the privilege of attending the IAPS/HMC annual Head's Conference in Edinburgh and with its hashtag of #enlightenededucation2022 it has certainly been a chance to reflect as well as wave the Godstowe flag in the largest gathering of Prep and Senior School Heads to date!
Yesterday was our first Activities Day of the school year and Main School came off timetable and engaged in a range of workshops and trips I always enjoy watching the girls having fun and learning outside the classroom and yesterday took the team to Harry Potter Studio Tour, the National Gallery and the V&A in London and to a theatre showing of 'Six' Others had the chance to take part in Indian dance and art workshops, cookery lessons and fun language themed activities As you know, we foster and encourage a love of learning for life and yesterday will be a day to remember for all girls and staff, for some time to come!
I have enjoyed promoting Godstowe's good name this week amongst as many schools and educational connections as possible This job is a true privilege and we are all lucky to be part of this vibrant school community Do follow me on Instagram if you get the chance and you can find me at '@Godstowehead'. I keep this up to date with the wide range of learning and community highlights across the school Another treasured moment for me was my Sunday trip to Wild Wood Adventure with the boarders last week what fun and what a brave and fearless team of girls and outside adventurers! Godstowe girls certainly know how to take part and enjoy life. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your family time together

This week, Lodge have been focusing on their Harvest preparations We are so pleased that we have been able to share our Harvest Festival with you today and thank you for your very generous donations in aid of the One Can Trust

This week Nursery children have enjoyed exploring the Godstowe grounds and came across an apple tree which inspired our cookery session delicious apple crumble Our sound of the week has been ‘ p ’ . The children have brought in some fantastic examples of objects starting with the ‘ p ’ sound It has been a very sensory week at Nursery and all the children have loved experiencing the variety of activities.

This week in Beginners we have been thinking about Harvest, and we talked about all the lovely vegetables and fruits that we enjoy eating We read a story called 'Oliver's Vegetables' about a boy who tried lots of different types of vegetables and we used our phonics skills to think about what sound each one started with In maths, we have been practising our careful counting skills, as well as our sequencing skills In art, we enjoyed looking closely at a variety of fruits and vegetables, talking about what colours and shapes we could see, and drawing them with pastels We hope you will come and see our drawings next time you come into Lodge!
Kindergarten children have been very busy eating this week! In Science they put the theory that different parts of the tongue identify the different taste groups (sweet, sour, bitter, salt) to the test Everyone enjoyed the boiled sweet, less so the lemon! Their Geography lesson introduced the children to the four countries that make up the UK, with a focus on England this week The highlight of the lesson was undoubtedly tucking into a typical English tea of scones, jam and cream, with much debate over whether the cream (Devon) or jam (Cornwall) comes first
Transition celebrated National Poetry Day on Thursday

We looked at two different Harvest poems, and had fun picking out all the rhyming words. We then brainstormed words on the theme of 'Harvest' and 'Autumn' and used them to write our own acrostic poems On Tuesday, Transition went outside for the first part of their Art lesson, enjoying the sunshine and collecting some beautiful leaves and conkers They used the leaves to create some leaf rubbing designs.
