mid- summer weekend activities! Have

@ /GodstoweSchool

It has been another very busy week at Lodge! On Wednesday 20 children from Beginners, Kindergarten and Transition performed beautifully at our Recital Concert, on the piano, violin and even cello! We are very proud of how well they introduced themselves and performedcongratulations!

This week we ’ ve had a great week enjoying a topic of summer and transition. The children have been talking all week about their next steps and where they will be next academic year. They all loved visiting their new classrooms and those staying with us enjoyed some special activities in their new group too In Cookery lessons, we made the most delicious fruit ice lollies. We had lots of fun chopping and blending the fruits we needed and then carefully pouring this into the moulds before then waiting for them to freeze into ice lollies! We also used shaving foam, mixed with colouring to make 3D ice cream paintings We really enjoyed exploring colour and texture In Phonics we have been exploring rhyming words and in Maths we have been ordering numbers to create picture puzzles

It has been an exciting week in Beginners We enjoyed the music recital and listening to some of our friends play for the first time. We read The Fish Who Could Wish and have been learning about rhyming and recorded some of our own rhymes We also thought of our own wishes and wrote them down. We've been looking at capacity in Maths and exploring the water trays both inside and outside We also met our Kindergarten teachers for the first time and had an enjoyable afternoon together We are looking forward to our last full week together in Beginners and can't wait to celebrate all our achievements.

Kindergarten have enjoyed a ‘magical’ week with our literacy focus on the story of Cinderella. Having initially been shocked to hear that Cinderella didn’t start in the studios of Disney, as a film, but instead as a classical fairy tale, the children have embraced the activities of characterisation, story sequencing and finally retelling the story in their own words They were rewarded for their hard work with a private viewing of the most recent film!

On Monday, Transition enjoyed a fantastic trip to Woodrow High House. We had an action-packed day outdoors, learning how to light fires to make popcorn in our Bushcraft session, and working as a team, developing resilience on the Challenge Course and Low Ropes. All the children pushed themselves and can be proud of how well they supported each other On Tuesday, we continued our outdoor theme, taking our Art lesson into the environment to make a colour palette using natural materials The children moving up to Form 1 were very excited to meet their new teachers and visit their new classrooms on Induction Day

Boarders'Corner

Navigating life at Highlands House is always an exciting adventure that all the girls enjoy One of Highlands Fll borders has written about what she most enjoys most about boarding and life in Highlands:

“Life in Highlands is really fun, we do water fights, trips and we even went on a trip to Brighton!

On Saturdays and Sundays, we have a lie-in and even sometimes, have breakfast in the boarding house! We change dorms every half-term, so every time I come back, I run upstairs and check my new dorm and friends The Highlands staff always try their best to put us in a dorm with our friend’s. The only thing that can be hard sometimes is homesickness To be a full boarder is a hard thing sometimes, especially when we come back from half term or other long holidays, but the Highlands staff are always there for us. Some of us will be homesick, but when we start our week, it’ll be too busy to be homesick and on the weekend, it will almost be gone. Sometimes, we don't even want to go home anymore!” - Moana G

CarnegieAwards

In the Spring of 2023, 16 girls from the Upper Thirds began their journey shadowing the Carnegie Book Awards. They had to read books across various genres and then critique these books during our Carnegie Lunchtime Club They chose the name The God’s Toes and began reviewing the books along with other students nationally. The God’s Toes chose joint winners I Must Betray You and Medussa The Carnegie Librarian judges didn’t agree with us and chose The Blue Book of Nebo. However, the other shadower’s across the UK did agree with us and the overall choice was I Must Betray You The girls celebrated with snacks and cakes in the library

SportsSnippets

RMS welcomed us and four other schools on Thursday for a fun morning of athletics for the U8, 9, 10 and 11 age groups

Some of the younger girls competed in events that they had never done before such as hurdles and shot-put and despite this did a great job The girls did exceptionally well, winning mostly gold and silver on the track and the field Overall, we also won the most points in every age category which is an incredible achievement! Huge well done to all that took part!

Our final U12 Tennis match of the season took place on Thursday at Wycombe Abbey. We were able to take 24 girls, including some of our talented U11 players

Each of the 12 pairs played 3 matches each with some very close results and plenty of draws. Wycombe Abbey were the stronger team on the day Well done to all players
