In 2022, GNI continued carrying out annual health check-ups and nutritional support for sponsored children, increasing access to clean water for the communities through implementing water supply systems and water purifiers for households and communities. GNI also implemented comprehensive sex education programs with many innovations in approach, aiming at both students and teachers to expand the project to more schools.

To share the message of “reducing and reusing plastic waste”, GNI continued implementing Environmental Education Programs. GNI hopes the community would join hands to protect the environment and say no to plastic bags and waste.

Implemented by GNI and Mai Chau District People’s Committee from June 2019 to June 2022 in Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh), the project was sponsored by the KIA group with a total budget of more than 11 billion VND. The project aims to improve people’s life quality by improving environmental sanitation and raising awareness of environmental protection.

Main events:

• Upgrading the garbage treatment system: installing a garbage sorting and recycling system for the waste treatment area of Mai Chau district;

• Supporting facilities: building a concrete road to the waste treatment area; upgrading and improving the system of gates, walls, roofs, garbage yards, etc;

• Building playgrounds from recycled materials for children;

01 waste sorting system was installed 04 garbage trucks were supported

290 trash cans were supported 04 playgrounds from recycled materials were established

01 recycling-plastics system was installed 02 recycling days were organized

• Implementing environmental protection campaigns such as “World Environment Day”, Green Sunday, showing films on environmental topics, and giving cloth masks and cloth bags to students and people.

“This is a great project to raise awareness of environmental protection, waste collection, transportation, and treatment. The project has helped to increase the collected waste amount in Mai Chau district, from 9 tons/ day to 16-18 tons/day.”

Limited access to clean water remains a challenge affecting the community health in general and children’s health in particular in rural areas of Vietnam. Although many achievements have been made in improving the clean water supply, according to statistics, the proportion of people in rural areas using safely-managed water services in 2021 accounted for 43.6%. The lack of access to clean water and sanitation problems contribute to increased rates of diarrhea, pneumonia, and parasitic infections.

Increase access to clean water for people.

In 2022, GNI finished the project “Building a clean water supply system” in Tan Bac commune (Quang Binh, Ha Giang) and Ninh Khang commune (Vinh Loc, Thanh Hoa) with a total value of nearly 2 billion VND. The Korean Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology (KICET) sponsored the project.

In Tan Bac commune, GNI and KICET supported 01 drilled well, 01 water filtration system, 01 factory with 45m2 in width, 01 20-liter bottle filling and packing system, and sampled and tested water quality. By establishing a clean water operation and production management team, this project has provided water for households in Lu Thuong village and bottled drinking water for people in Quang Binh district through the establishment of a clean water operation and production management team.

Clean water is an essential fundamental resource, but not all areas have access to clean water. Water pollution makes it no longer safe to drink natural water directly. It requires the water source to be drinkable through a filtration system. In this project, we hope to establish a clean water management model operated by the local people, and expand this model in the future.

- Mr. Jeong Young Hun, Director of Materials Research and Development Division, KICET -

In Ninh Khang commune, GNI established the Vikawa Clean Water Production Service and Trade Cooperative after supporting the clean water supply system. The main product is bottled drinking water that meets QC06/BYT for customers for drinking water. Until now, Vikawa Cooperative has provided pure drinking water to 14 schools, 05 offices, 19 agents, and households in the area with approximately 10,000 regular users.
