On the other side of town, we held another Arbor Day function at North Easton Park, where we unveiled a new tree planted in honor of long-time Tree Board member Roger Bollman.

Mr. Bollman recently stepped down as Chair Person of the Easton Tree Board. Through his 17 years with the Tree Board, Mr. Bollman saw over 1,700 trees planted in Town!

Mayor Megan Cook, Public Works Director Mike Dickerson, Town Engineer Rick Van Emburgh, numerous Public Works team members, and current Tree Board Members Sarah Hilderbrand, Leslie Cario, and Chloe Pitard all came out for the event where the tree was revealed and an Arbor Day proclamation from the Mayor was read aloud by Maintenance Division Manager Mike Young.

After reading the proclamation Young said, “Roger always liked large trees, and would plant them anywhere he could — so we got a Red Oak for him here. They get pretty large!”

A separate proclamation honoring Mr. Bollman’s service was presented at the following Town Council meeting on April 7, and a special plaque to commemorate Mr. Bollman will be added to accompany the tree. Thank you, Mr. Bollman, for all that you have done for our Town!

Public Works, Easton Utilities team up to relocate fire hydrant

Big problems require big solutions!

That’s why we reached out to our friends at Easton Utilities for some help with a unique obstacle our team encountered while replacing the traffic lights at the intersection of Harrison and Goldsborough Streets. One of the light pedestals set to be installed was in conflict with an old fire hydrant connected to a water main.

Luckily, the Easton Utilities team came right out and teamed up with our construction crew to locate existing utilities, dig a fresh hole, reroute the water main, and install a new hydrant just a few feet away —

where it will no longer be in conflict with the incoming traffic signal.

About the team up, EUC Water Dept. Crew Leader Zach Jones said, “We’re always happy to help the Town whenever we can. We work well together and the partnership goes both ways — the Public Works team is always there to lend a hand when we need, too!”

Thanks to Colton Insley, Jake Towers, and Supervisor Justin Conaway from the Town of Easton Public Works, and to Brennen Wroten, Jonathan Buchanan, Brandon Jones, and Crew Leader Zach Jones from Easton Utilities for joining forces and getting the job done earlier today!

A HEALTHY COLLABORATION

Town of Easton named joint-winners at 2025 Community Impact Awards

Talbot County business, government, and community leaders gathered on Thursday, April 10, 2025, in the Tidewater Inn’s Gold Ballroom for the 18th Talbot County Business Appreciation Summit and presentation of the 2025 Community Impact Awards.

The event included a keynote address from the President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Tom Barkin, who is known for his engagement in the bank’s Fifth

District, which covers Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Barkin discussed the impact of tariffs, immigration policies, and federal government actions on the U.S. economy.

“I worked for McKinsey for 30 years, helping companies raise or lower prices,” Barkin said. “I think I can do something different, which is try to bring the real world to what’s happening in the economy.”

Information Technology

A FRESH COAT

Town of Easton launches website redesign

The Town of Easton is excited to announce that their website redesign is complete, and is now live and available to view at eastonmd.gov.

The eastonmd.gov website just underwent a six-month long redesign process in which the Town of Easton IT department worked alongside government website provider CivicPlus to implement updates and new features. The website retains all of the functionality of the previous version, improved through a cleaner, easier to navigate interface.

While the interface now hosts easier to read type and better contrast on each page, the site’s translation features have also vastly improved, with over 200 languages available for website translation, making the site more accessible for all who visit.

“With our current contract, we are able to update our website every couple of years to offer residents some quality of life updates and to keep with the times,” said Scott Messick, Director of Information Technology. “We’re pleased to be able to offer an improved product for the public, and we’re proud of how accessible this new redesign is.”

With this new website update, the Town of Easton aims to increase its community engagement and enhance the communication between residents and the local government. Visitors are encouraged to provide their feedback by filling out a short response form here: https://eastonmd.gov/FormCenter/Contact-Us-5/Website-redesign-feedback-form-95

ABOUT THE EVENT

Talbot County was founded around 1661 and named after Lady Grace Talbot, sister of Cecilius Calvert, Second Lord Baltimore, and wife of Sir Robert Talbot, Irish statesman.

On April 19, 1983, the Talbot County Council unanimously approved a proclamation declaring April 25th to be the official birthday of Talbot County.

In 2023, the Council approved a proclamation to highlight April 25, 2023, as “Talbot Day” the celebration of the county’s birthday, with hopes to reinvigorate the birthday tradition.

Today on April 25, 2025, we gather to commemorate our home, Talbot County, celebrating our residents, organizations, and history - and everything Talbot County has to offer.

HOT HONEY CHICKEN

MEATBALL SUBS

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 30 minutes

Servings: 4

1 Minute Hot Honey Chicken

Seasoned Rice Cup

1 pound ground chicken

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

4 hoagie rolls

2 tablespoons butter

4 slices provolone cheese garlic sauce, for garnish

Preheat oven to 375 F. Heat rice according to package directions.

In large bowl, mix rice; chicken; salt; cayenne, if desired; and breadcrumbs.

Use cookie scoop or hand roll chicken mixture into balls. Place on aluminum foil-lined sheet tray, leaving small space between each ball. Bake 25 minutes, flipping meatballs halfway through.

Slice hoagies in half, lengthwise. Remove some bread from middle to make room for meatballs. Butter inside of each hoagie and place on sheet tray.

Once meatballs are cooked through, turn broiler on high and place buttered hoagies in oven. Cook 1 minute, or until butter is melted and hoagie has browned.

Remove hoagies from oven, place 3-4 meatballs inside (depending on size) and cover with slice of cheese. Broil on high 30 seconds to melt cheese.

Drizzle garlic sauce on top.

Tip: Garlic sauce can be substituted with topping of choice.
