Catch the Vegas Fever
I will never forget the first time I saw Saturday Night Fever in 1978. I felt like I was being transported to another world, thanks to the sensational dancing, the swirling lights of the disco, and the now-iconic songs from the Bee Gees and Trammps. It was easily the coolest thing I had seen up to that time, and while it is now considered more of a time capsule than entertainment, its impact on the world was palpable and long-lasting. Why? Because ultimately it stands for the same thing Vegas does: Fun!
If you need proof, look no further than the Las Vegas Strip, where one of the most unique shows in the city re-creates that era to a T (which, in this usage, stands for “Travolta”). DISCOSHOW at The Linq Hotel, the latest effort from Spiegelworld, is a truly all-in-one experience, and even if you weren’t alive in the disco era, you will find plenty to appreciate (“Find Your Groove,” p. 32).
The fun continues in this week’s issue with a visit from stand-up comedian supreme John Mulaney, who will be performing at Park MGM (“Hilarious and Unafraid,” p. 42).

Planning on some shopping this week? You won’t want to miss one of the newest stores at The Forum Shops at Caesars, Kawaii Things, where you can find rare and high-demand blind box collectibles, limited-edition collectibles, designer toys and much more. Not only that, there’s a studio where you can post your unboxing video on social media (“It’s a Toy Thing,” p. 22).
Any fans of Martha Stewart, Nobu Matsuhisa or Gordon Ramsay out there? Now you can take a cooking class at their Vegas restaurants, with the help of the in-house chef (“Now You’re Cookin’!” p. 34). Talk about an only-in-Vegas opportunity! Whether you’re dancing, cooking, laughing or shopping, make this a week of nothing but fun.

Uncharted Territory
Showman embraces what’s new and unknown in his hit Strip residency
Donny Osmond has some favorite segments during his headlining show on the Las Vegas Strip. There’s the “Donny Rap” and the climactic part of the performance where inflated, blinking Donny Balls are pitched into the audience for celebratory volleying. The latest addition incorporates artificial intelligence, images of him at age 14 and his grandson to make something magical happen: Osmond duetting with his youthful “Puppy Love”-era self.
“That’s becoming another anchor point to the show,” says Osmond. “People have heard about it. They’ve read about it. They see it on YouTube and in interviews I’ve done. Then when that curtain opens up and you see this three-dimensional character that’s me 53 years ago … I hear the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ coming from the audience.”
Two years in the making, Avatar Donny is a high-tech combination of Osmond’s face as it looked more than a half-century ago and his grandson Daxton, dressed as his grandfather did in the early ’70s when he was frequently featured on covers of teen idol magazines. He’s even wearing a cap that was a trademark back in the day. A fan sent it to him just for the video recording in New York, after which Osmond promptly returned it. “When I’m looking into the eyes of myself, 53 years ago, can you imagine how strange that is? I’m looking in the mirror 53 years ago,” says Osmond.
So returning fans have something new to witness the next time they buy tickets for Donny. Due to the technology involved, Osmond needs to be on point during the segment with split-second timing.
Other parts of the show are much more casual and spontaneous by design. “That segment in my show that I call ‘The Request Segment,’ it’s 20 minutes of unknown,” says Osmond. “I don’t know where it’s gonna go, and like I’ve said in times past, it’s probably my favorite part of the show because it’s unknown.” –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Bigger and Better
This otherworldly art and entertainment district has been given some major upgrades with Zone 2
When AREA15 opened in 2020, Las Vegas already had plenty of over-thetop attractions. What it didn’t have was a 40-acre playground where you could walk through an alien grocery store, throw axes, stumble upon a massive art installation and have a cocktail in a digital forest. And now this parallel-to-the-Strip destination is pushing even further into uncharted territory with Zone 2, its latest expansion.
Zone 2 transforms AREA15 from a single 200,000-squarefoot venue into a sprawling “retailtainment” district that defies easy categorization. The centerpiece is Universal Horror Unleashed, Universal Destinations & Experiences’ first-ever year-round, fully immersive horror experience.
The expansion brings dozens of newly installed sculptures and murals, pushing AREA15’s collection to more than 60 sculptures and 30 murals, officially making it the largest permanent installation of monumental festival art in the world. Walking through the massive space feels like wandering onto the set of a sci-fi movie where the art director had both unlimited budget and boundless creativity.
Despite major corporate partners
like Universal moving in, what makes AREA15 a beloved Vegas destination is its commitment to local artists, who are given the space to create a world as weird and as wonderful as their visions allow.
“Art is part of our fundamental ethos and brand value,” Winston Fisher, AREA15’s CEO, tells Las Vegas Magazine. “We don’t even think about it; it’s just what we do. (One of our new attractions will be) an experience called Tiny Worlds, where local artists build these micro villages. We just put art everywhere.”
The expansion includes other sensory pleasures, too: new bars like the Looper Bar, food options including The Beast Mobile Food Trailer, and retail kiosks that somehow make shopping feel like performance art. Chilango’s Tacos, Saint Honoré Doughnuts & Beignets and Nacho Daddy will join the culinary scene, because immersive art works up quite an appetite. Also, guests can now travel between zones on the Grounded Intra-district Tram (GIT), because why walk when you can ride a futuristic transport system? – Genevie Durano

A Real Showstopper
This master entertainer continues to make Vegas history
OK, so Barry Manilow’s The Last Concerts series earlier this year, in which he toured select cities in the U.S., turned out to be a bit of a tease—he’s already got dates scheduled in January for Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Ohio. But that’s just more proof that the 82-year-old performer has no intentions of slowing down, and that includes his shows at Westgate Las Vegas (which gave him a lifetime residency commitment recently).
And seeing Manilow in Las Vegas has a significance you won’t find at any of his other shows around the country: Every single performance sets a new record, as he long ago broke Elvis Presley’s record of performances at the International Theater (636).
Of course, as important as the history books are, what really matters is the show itself. Manilow is still a master showman, strutting and dancing around the stage as he takes audiences on a
journey through his extensive catalog, everything from “Mandy” and “I Write the Songs” to “Weekend in New England,” “Even Now” and “Ready to Take a Chance Again.” “Copacabana,” Manilow’s showstopping number, is where the event really shifts into another gear. And what better song for Vegas than one about a showgirl? –Ken Miller

Success Is No Illusion
Magician’s family-friendly production passes 10 years as she eagerly anticipates her 1,000th performance
Time flies when your profession is your passion. For Jen Kramer, it seems like only yesterday she visited Las Vegas for the first time. Now she’s heading toward the 1,000th performance of The Magic of Jen Kramer at Westgate Las Vegas, with her career moving so fast the 10th anniversary of her arrival on the scene passed before she realized it.
“How could I have let a decade go by without throwing a party or something? I don’t know!” she says. “Missed opportunity there … It’s going to be 10 years from now in no time.”
Kramer was preoccupied with being in the moment at her 5 p.m. Westgate Cabaret shows, where her mix of magic and mentalism constantly creates new fans who line up after shows during meet-and-greets to share their enthusiasm about her signature quick-change trick illusion early in the performance and her new climactic trick.
The latter is the latest creation made possible by maintaining a fertile imagination. “That flow state is so real,” she says. “Sometimes when you’re exploring a different realm of magic like with the new finale that we’re doing in the show—it’s more
grand illusion style—your brain starts thinking, ‘How can I apply this idea or that idea?’”
Not that Kramer is going to retire her oeuvre of card tricks, but an evolution into grand illusions would be a natural next step. She’s a veteran of the Strip’s magic scene now. The tricks she brought to Westgate Cabaret are increasingly enhanced by the possibilities she’s able to visualize based on the venue’s dimensions and capabilities.
“We wanted to do something big for the finale, so I’m making a big, sparkly purple motorcycle appear onstage,” she says. “It’s an absolute blast. It’s something very different than the material throughout the rest of the show, and that was part of the appeal of it for me, doing something than felt like a stretch and provided variety.”
It’s also the next step in Kramer’s goal of creating human connection through magic. “It’s all about making people feel like they’re 5 years old again, looking through that lens of wonder,” she says. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff Westgate Las Vegas, 5+.

Find Your Island Getaway
Strip hot spot specializes in cocktails and attitude
Las Vegas is a city that’s all about escape. Once you cross the threshold into any property, you get to forget the troubles of the world and immerse yourself in the adventure of your choice—Paris, Egypt, medieval times, you name it. For many, an island escape is the goal, and while there are many venues on the Strip that offer that experience, few can match the vibe of Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas.
From its ultra-cool, green-lit décor to the comfy plush chairs, this bar beckons you to stay for more than just a little while. And when you taste the drinks, you’ll be tempted to order them all—because, while you would think a tiki lounge would specialize solely in rum drinks, Golden Monkey offers a wide range of spirits for all taste buds.
Yes, rum fans can enjoy The Birds of Paradise, pictured, which uses pandan to create a tasty treat when mixed with Bacardi Superior rum, Chinola pineapple liqueur, orange, lime and pineapple, but that’s just the beginning. The Guava Gal is made with made with No. 3 London dry gin, Lillet Rouge, guava syrup and lime. Tequila fans will want the great-looking Fire Dancer, made with Patron reposado, Tanteo habanero tequila, Nixta elote liqueur and spicy mango syrup, served in a character cup and garnished with a flaming lime. And whiskey connoisseurs will certainly enjoy the Funky Monkey, featuring coconut fat-washed Teeling Irish Whiskey, Giffard banana liqueur, Kalani coconut liqueur, bitters and nutmeg.
Your great escape awaits! –Ken Miller

Alejandro Gonzalez
Tattoo artist is proud of his career accomplishments
For 28 years, Alejandro Gonzalez’s love for his hometown of Havana, Cuba, was strong, but he knew he had to leave in order to pursue his ambition of being a tattoo artist. (Having a tattoo shop in Cuba was illegal at the time.) “I never thought about leaving Cuba, but I needed to for my career,” he says.
But where would he go to up his game? “I literally searched on the internet, ‘Top friendly tattoo cities in the U.S.’ and Las Vegas was No. 2 after Miami.” Gonzalez left for the United States and
landed in Las Vegas, where he slept on the streets until he found a tattoo shop that would hire him. After working at various spots around the city, he finally made the move to Miami, where he opened and ran his own tattoo shop for eight years. Three years ago, he made the move back to Vegas, where he has been working at high-end shop Club Tattoo at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.

Looking back on his career, Gonzalez says, “I started doing tattoos on myself at 15; they’re like my birthmarks. I’m 100% proud of what I’ve accomplished. I’ve built a proud career, from where I started to where I am now.”–Kiko Miyasato

Game day tastes so much better at Flanker Kitchen + Sports Bar
GAME DAY IN VEGAS generates its own kind of electricity, and nowhere is this more apparent than at Flanker Kitchen + Sports Bar. Located at the entrance to the Shoppes at Mandalay Place, you’ll know you’ve arrived when you spot the larger-thanlife Muhammad Ali statue out front.
Step through the doors and your retinas light up from the glow of more than 50 LED screens strategically positioned throughout the expansive space, anchored by the star of the show: a 30-foot-by-9-foot LED wall. We popped in recently during the NFL’s season kickoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. Every touchdown, replay and highlight blazed across the screens while fans in team jerseys clinked beer glasses and
Wagyu double smash burger
Photos by Anthony Mair
whooped it up between bites. The energy was infectious, with cheers erupting from different corners of the room as plays unfolded.
Speaking of bites, Flanker’s menu is stacked with elevated game-day favorites. Start with crispy wings prepared three ways: salt and lemon pepper, Buffalo and spicy Korean style. The Tailgate Nachos—a heaping mountain of chips, Monterey Jack cheese, black beans, pickled jalapeños, sour cream and pico—can feed a small army. Shareable sides include indulgently creamy mac and cheese, sweet potato fries and a tall stack of golden onion rings.
The MVP of the menu is the bacon smash burger, a wagyu double-patty masterpiece topped with bacon-onion jam, garlic aioli and American cheese. The beef is juicy, flavorful and smashed to perfection and arrives with a pile of shoestring fries—hot, salty and dangerously addictive, the kind that disappear faster than you realize while you’re engrossed in the game.
Come early for weekday happy hour (4-6 p.m.) and score serious value on both food and drinks. Street tacos bursting with authentic flavors, Korean lettuce wraps with braised short rib and gochujang aioli, and pretzel bites served with mustard all clock in under $10, alongside $8 margaritas and Old-Fashioneds made with Jack Dan-

iel’s straight rye whiskey. For heartier appetites, the dinner menu delivers with expertly prepared salmon, falloff-the-bone smoked spare ribs and a ribeye filet that gives other steakhouses a run for their money. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, Flanker is hosting a Nielsen’s Frozen Custard pop-up through fall, a refreshing finish to any meal.

flankerlv.com
If all that cheering makes you thirsty, there’s plenty of beer on tap in pint, pitcher or tower quantities. The mixology game is strong here with signature cocktails, while an impressive wine and champagne selection round out the beverage lineup for victory celebrations (or consolation drinking, depending on how it goes for your team).
Flanker goes all in on the Vegas sports bar vibe. There are private dining rooms (with karaoke!) that let you host watch parties. Themed football events throughout the season keep the energy high. And if you’re heading to Allegiant Stadium for a Raiders game, you’re just steps from the walkway that connects directly to the venue.
Whether you’re pregaming before a Raiders matchup, catching up with friends or hunting down a next-level happy hour that delivers on atmosphere and quality, this is the kind of spot that beats staying home on the couch.

DISCOSHOW is a Vegas production like no other on the Strip
On any given night in Las Vegas, there’s no shortage of ways to be entertained. But what if you yourself become part of the entertainment? That’s the idea behind DISCOSHOW, a show unlike anything else you’ll find in town. From the brilliant minds at Spiegelworld, the creative oddballs responsible for Absinthe and Atomic Saloon Show, DISCOSHOW puts you center stage on the dancefloor, grooving to the music of disco’s golden era while dancers and roller skaters weave through the crowd. But the party starts before you even step onto the dancefloor. Arrive early and have a drink at 99 Prince, which bills itself as a five-star dive bar. Here, you can enjoy cocktails such as the Gentleman’s Exchange (by Leo Ro- bitschek of NoMad), Gordon’s Cup (by Sasha Petraske of Milk & Honey) and

By Genevie Durano
Beijing Peach (by Julie Reiner of Flat- iron Lounge). All are legends in the mix- ology universe and properly worshiped here. Then head upstairs to a loft that feels like an art-school warehouse par- ty (minus the grunge). It’s vintage chic in the coolest way possible, an homage to 1970s NYC loft parties where you can chill on comfy, well-worn couches while nursing a Wallbanger.
If you need something sturdier than cocktails, Diner Ross Steakhouse takes American comfort food and gives it the Spiegelworld treatment: oysters on the rocks, bone marrow bites, and disco fries (natch!) begging to be Insta- grammed. But don’t be fooled: This is a proper steakhouse with serious chops, offering a flight of cuts—a New York strip, a ribeye and a filet mignon— dubbed A5 & the Gang.
The main event starts when roller skaters glide out to the loft and perform impressive tricks that elicit “oohs” and “aahs.” When the crowd is ushered into the next room and the floor lights start winking, you’re in for a unique “theater” experience. You’re shoulder to shoulder in a crowd—many dressed in their finest disco fit of jumpsuits, bell-bottoms, micro shorts and enough sequins to put a Bedazzler out of commission—the performers slipping in and out of the audience until
you can’t tell who’s working the show and who’s just an unusually commit- ted partygoer.
The soundtrack leans hard into disco’s greatest hits—“Le Freak,” “We Are Family,” “Disco Inferno”—but filters them through futuristic lighting rigs and visual effects. The various stages are wheeled around into modular platforms where performers execute intricate choreography. There’s a faint storyline coursing through the per-

formance (the rise, the fall, the lasting legacy of disco), but the point is to get the audience to participate—dancing and sweating like you accidentally wandered into a bespoke version of 1979. (And if you’ve forgotten your disco moves, don’t worry—there’s a tutor, paying homage to the late Ake Blomqvist, a Finnish disco dance teacher. He’s devoted to his role as only a true Spiegelworld denizen can be.)
By the time skaters carve past and the dancers are grooving on the floor next to you, the whole thing feels like the group dance therapy session you didn’t know you needed.
Ross Mollison, Spiegelworld’s founder, had been tinkering with DISCOSHOW for years before its debut. “There really is nothing like this in the world,” he says on the show’s website.
By the time you leave the dance- floor, sweaty and shimmery, you’ll likely agree.

Get your chef on at Paris Las Vegas’ three distinctive classes
By KIKO MIYASATO Photography by CHRISTOPHER DEVARGAS
Julia Child said it best: “No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.” Martha Stewart, Nobu Matsuhisa and Gordon Ramsay are three chefs that are prime examples of practice makes perfect. By studying the art of their respective cuisines, each shot to the head of the class and turned what they learned into respected culinary careers. They’ve
each also capitalized on their flair for flavors and opened restaurants across the globe, including in Las Vegas. At Paris Las Vegas, guests can get a taste of perfection at The Bedford by Martha Stewart, Gordon Ramsay Steak and Nobu Las Vegas.
Now you have the chance to follow in the chefs’ footsteps in the kitchen by tak-
ing a cooking class offered at each restaurant, each one taught by the in-house chef.
Learn how to make pierogies, sushi and steak, gather up cooking knowledge (as well as tips to take back to your own kitchen), and, most importantly, have fun.
Read on for a glimpse into each class, then book your spot online and get ready to get your chef on!
ASSIGNMENT:
How to make sushi
CLASS NOTES:
Learn the proper sushi-making techniques to make your own tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, yellowtail nigiri and California roll. You’ll learn how to use just the right amount of rice, how to shape the rice in your hand and how to properly place the fish on the rice. There’s even a QR code in your welcome package that you scan to watch a video of chef Nobu demonstrating how to properly shape and form the rice on which you place the piece of fish. (You’ll be taught tips and tricks to accomplish this technique!)
You’ll learn how to roll the crab, avocado and cucumber with nori (seaweed) to create the perfect California roll.
Chef goes over the main sushi ingredients, revealing insider information, such as: The type of rice used is exclusive to Nobu and the distinct flavor comes from a combination of rice vinegar, monk fruit sugar and salt, added during the cooking process; the sesame seeds used on the cut rolls are roasted to release a distinct aroma; Japanese cucumbers are used in all

the sushi rolls because they’re skinny, crunchy and have fewer seeds than American cucumbers; Haas avocados are always used; and the top-notch nori, a version made special for Nobu, comes from the brand
Naga Kombu seaweed—the nori must be thin and crunchy, creating the perfect bite experience.
The seafood you’ll use in the class includes: big

eye tuna that comes from Hawaii; Scottish salmon; yellowtail that comes from Japan; and snow crab that comes from Canada.
CHEF NOBU opened the first Nobu-branded restaurant in Tribeca, New York, in 1991
Each dish served at Nobu restaurants follow chef Nobu’s belief in the harmony of ingredients, making sure that each bite has a perfect balance when it comes to aroma, sourness, sweetness and crunchiness, and that it’s always visually pleasing.
Upon arrival to the class, you’ll receive a specialty drink made with fresh fruits, and each guest leaves with a Nobu-branded apron, a set of chopsticks, a step-by-step guide on how to make sushi and a sushi-making mold.
Enjoy your sushi creations in the dining room, and for an additional cost you can pair it with a sake flight of Japanese whiskey.

ASSIGNMENT:
How to make pierogies
CLASS NOTES:
The No.1 selling dish at The Bedford is Big Martha’s pierogies—Martha Stewart’s mother’s personal recipe. Nearly 70 orders are served each evening and can be made to order with caviar to send the flavors into bougie territory.
Watch as chef makes the dough using the classic

KitchenAid mixer, adding together all-purpose flour, whole milk, water, sour cream, kosher salt and a large brown egg. Once the dough is prepared, students will get sheets of the dough to form the individual pierogies.
Each guest will combine potatoes, brown butter, cream cheese, scallions and kosher salt in a mixing bowl. You’ll blend the ingredients until they’re well mixed and then set them aside to be used as the filling for each pierogi.
Everyone in the class gets their own cooking utensils.
You’ll take the dough and filling and make your individual pierogies, learning techniques on how to shape, seal and crimp the dough. This is your chance to show off your cooking skills—if

you have them! But don’t fret, chef is always nearby to help out.
Chef will then take the pierogies back to the kitchen, where you’ll be able to watch as your newly formed pierogies are boiled in salted water.
The dish is then finished off with brown butter and fresh diced sage. Guests are invited to take a seat at a communal dining table to eat their freshly cooked pierogies together.
Martha Stewart sells her cookbooks at the restauYukon Gold potatoes are used for the filling. The potatoes are peeled and run through a food mill, resulting in a creamy, lump-free filling.
rant. Earlier this year, she released her 100th cookbook. Not only are Big Martha’s pierogies in the new cookbook, but many recipes have been added to The Bedford’s new fall menu, with star dishes that include seafood.
For the restaurant, the dough is made at the inhouse baking department of the hotel. Each day a cook comes into The Bedford early to assemble each pierogi by hand—amounting to nearly 300!
Each guest leaves with The Bedford by Martha Stewart-branded apron and the step-by-step pierogi recipe. A bonus of taking this class is that it includes a 4 p.m. VIP dinner reservation for two inside the Brown Room; and on top of dinner, you’ll receive two complimentary glasses of champagne and classic caviar service.

guests from Paris to London through the a replica of the Chunnel.
Chef is friendly and knowledgeable and will gladly answer any questions about the process of learning the art of properly cooking a steak. You’ll learn tips like: Always temper your meat before cooking—the meat should be at room temperature before you start cooking, so when it hits the hot pan, it doesn’t steam from being cold and will instead immediately begin to caramelize; and use more salt than you think you need, because a lot of it comes off during the cooking process.
You’ll learn how to pansear the steak (on all sides for best results!) in oil, flavored with only salt and pepper on both sides. And then you’ll learn how to butter baste the steak using a made-in-house compound butter. (It’s the same butter that is brushed on every steak that leaves the restaurant’s kitchen.). You’ll also cook the steak with sprigs of thyme to enhance the flavors, removing them when finished.
ASSIGNMENT:
How to cook a steak
CLASS NOTES:
Each guest will receive a 4-ounce American wagyu filet mignon to cook at their
own individual cooking station with hot plate, pan and cooking utensils.
Cheers! Enjoy a glass of champagne upon arrival while you learn some his-
tory on the restaurant—it’s chef Ramsay’s first Las Vegas restaurant and recently celebrated 13 years. Check out the creative interior design of the restaurant that is supposed to transport
One of chef’s biggest tips: After the steak is cooked, it’s always important to let the steak rest before cutting into it. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the piece of meat.

plating the steak. For both the visual impact and to enhance the flavors, you can pick different accoutrements that are set up at your cooking station, including coarse smoked sea salt, Guinness-braised mustard seeds, chimichurri or red wine demi-glace.
Enjoy your steak!
Guests will get to eat the filet mignon they’ve just prepared while getting another chance to pick chef’s brain on more cooking techniques and learn about the different dishes served at the restaurant.
Each guest leaves with a Gordon Ramsay Steak-branded apron, autographed Ramsay photo and logo-branded keepsakes.

John Mulaney brings fearless funny to the Vegas stage this week
By Em Jurbala
John Mulaney is one of those people who for a long time has epitomized success in comedy and, more broadly, show business. His friendly and upbeat brand of observational comedy delivered by way of incredible storytelling has made him one of the industry’s top artists. Many fans regard him as the first stand-up they ever got into or remember his Emmy-winning writing from his time with Saturday Night Live. Mulaney built a brand on being very likeable while delivering perfect punch lines. The tide changed around 2020 when stand-up comedy had been on a rise as people sought relief from tumultuous times and Mulaney had reached an all-new high
in his stardom. Despite mounting success, that period (a time where, frankly, none of us were at our best) brought the comic a battle with addiction that fueled chaotic life changes that all happened very publicly, abruptly changing Mulaney’s not squeaky-clean but arguably wholesome reputation. That period of time became a bit of a point of no return for the star. There was no option to continue creating without acknowledging what the public had already known. The experience brought fans Mulaney’s most recent album, 2023’s Baby J, in which he uses his same quick-witted comedy to tell the story of his intervention and rehabilitation

in a way that makes light of an era of darkness that drew the comic much public speculation and criticism.
Baby J is a work of art that balances self-reflection and acceptance with lingering feelings of frustration and confusion, without feeling heavy at any given point. Really, it’s a testament to Mulaney’s writing talents. And it’s an album that makes clear we’re getting a daring, less-afraid comic than we once knew. Early in the album, Mulaney describes likability as a prison, and toward the end jokes about how he’s his own worst enemy: “What, are you
going to cancel John Mulaney? I’ll kill him.”
Since welcoming a more fearless version of himself, Mulaney has launched himself back into the spotlight with numerous projects like Netflix talk shows John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A. and Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, appearances on FX’s The Bear as Stevie and on the Broadway stage in All In: Comedy About Love Each project brings the same

personality fans have grown to love, but with a sharper edge that keeps Mulaney’s punch lines, well, punchy.
8 p.m. Oct. 11, starting at $79 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com
Despite his many successes in scripted and talk show formats, the best window into the comic’s mind will always be his standup. Simply speaking his mind into a mic
without costumes, props and set pieces, Mulaney excels as an orator. And now, more than ever, is a great time to hear what the comic has to say.
As expected with any show from the seasoned comic, Mulaney’s Oct. 11 stop at Park MGM promises a night of laughter from curtain open to close, but with less regard for what people think of him, the Mister Whatever Tour is also likely to bring some boundary-breaking comedy.

Once you check into Circa Resort & Casino, you’ll have everything you’ll need and want for that perfect vacation. Journey with me on my own 24-hour stay (a staycation in my case) and read about some of the highlights and fun to be had at this amazing property located in downtown Las Vegas.
You can ask for an early check-in, but it’s not always guaranteed. We got lucky! We stayed in a that is anything but “standard.” Every room at Circa has a kingsized bed—we jumped onto the Serta Prestige mattress and sunk in … ahhh! A cool feature: A lot of the rooms have a Murphy bed! Owner Derek Stevens made sure all rooms offer a king-sized bed so everyone could feel royal! Technology reigns throughout the room. We adjusted the air and played music through our tablet and asked Alexa questions about the resort. The bathroom has dual vanity sinks (I set up my beauty tools right in front of the makeup mirror with special lighting) and the shower has a sizable built-in bench and luxurious bathing products.

By Kiko Miyasato

You must see the property’s sports book, even if you don’t place bets. encompasses three stories with stadium-style seating, VIP booths and on-point service. We checked into one of the booths and ordered lunch. Menus from nearby Victory Burger & Wings Co. and Project BBQ are available. We noshed on the Hangover Burger piled with french fries, cheddar cheese, thick-cut bacon, caramelized onions, crispy onion straws, creamy blanco cheese, boom boom sauce and a fried egg; an order of boneless wings in sweet chili sauce; smoked Gouda mac and cheese bites; and fire-roasted elote in a cup. Indulging was joined by eye candy—nearly a dozen huge screens, nearly floor to ceiling, displaying all manner of sports.

Before we went back to our room to get ready for dinner, we made a quick pop into the lobby lounge, , to try some of the most inventive cocktails available downtown. (Plus, the historical Vegas Vickie’s neon sign is a must selfie moment). Don’t miss the Grandissimo Espresso Martini made with Madagascar vanilla bean-infused tequila!
Circa | Sports photo by Ryan Gobuty Circa suite photo by Black Raven Films
We headed down the final set of escalators to the bottom floor of Circa, where you’ll find the doors to amazing steakhouse
. This place is sexy and cool and has amazing old-school music (before the DJ takes over). And the food? Primo! Don’t miss the vegan menu. (Yes, at a steakhouse!) As a vegetarian, I sliced into a vegan Salisbury steak and a hearts of palm ceviche. My dining companion’s knife melted into the 8-ounce wet-aged filet mignon from Omaha Farms and filled in the rest of his meal with a side of decadent whipped Belgian potatoes and grilled asparagus with a lemon vinaigrette. Can we take a minute to talk about the dessert—each one is more than generous in its serving size. We delved into the banana cream pie and the sticky toffee butter cake … We should’ve started with dessert because buttons were popping; we couldn’t manage to put our forks down even though we were full—the recipes were that good!

We finished up the evening with some after-dinner cocktails and some of the best views of the city, checking in at the hostess podium and then heading into the elevator and up 60 floors to the always-a-good-time . A trip to Circa wouldn’t be complete without making it up to this rooftop hot spot. Bartenders here are often voted the best in the city (many of them are recipients of cocktail competition awards), so ask them to whip you up something special off the menu. We grabbed our cocktails and headed outdoors to the oversized lounge chairs surrounding a fire pit and gazed at the city lights and stars. Another great thing about Legacy Club? There’s a DJ that plays top 40 music. Party in plain sight or sneak into a corner booth or one of the outdoor firepits off to the side and make it a romantic date night.

We didn’t even have to get dressed or leave the room to enjoy some breakfast. We simply scanned a QR code that took us to the menu, Circa’s 24-hour diner-like restaurant. We ordered up Nate & Sally’s housemade vanilla-cinnamon French toast with house-made whipped cream, fresh berries and pure maple syrup, The Chief’s Smoked Salmon Platter with generous salmon portions, toasted bagel, cream cheese, capers, slices of tomato, cucumber and red onion, and the Saginaw’s Breakfast Sandwich, two eggs over medium, bacon, white cheddar cheese and Sam’s Sriracha mayo on a sesame brioche bun. The breakfast menu offers so much more, and having Saginaw’s delivered to your room for breakfast blows the traditional room service meal options out of the water with its delicious options.

We checked out of our room and decided to spend our last hours at . We booked a daybed right alongside one of the six pools available and settled in for some sun and fun. A DJ keeps the music in party-vibes mode, and the 40-foot tall, high-def screen played that day’s basketball games. The multilevel pool complex offers big cabanas, open lounge chair seating, a (huge!) cocktail and food menu and outdoor table games. Stadium Swim is a destination downtown, not just a hotel pool—you have to come to the hotel to check it out. You just pay a reasonable cover to get in and enjoy the facilities, even if you’re not a hotel guest.

There’s a behind the “Marilyn Monroe eyes” inside the high-limit area. You’ll need a reservation. (The concierge has details.) Don’t miss the at Barry’s Downtown Prime. A server brings the cart tableside to mix you up your choice of a Manhattan or Old-Fashioned. You’ll want to take out your phone to record this one. If you snag a inside Circa | Sports, you’ll have fun checking out the table. It’s covered in old Las Vegas advertisements and newspaper articles about sports betting. We cracked up as we read an ad for the Sundance Casino that offered a breakfast buffet for 69 cents and a prime rib dinner for $3.95.
If you book a Circa suite on the 52nd floor, one of the coolest features is the , a specially created tome that shows renderings and tells stories of how the hotel was built. In case you didn’t know, Circa offers . is a behemoth drinking destination, spanning 165 feet with more than 50 seats, flair bartenders, 46 double-stacked TVs and more than 100 beers on tap. It’s Nevada’s longest indoor bar. It’s also where you might be lucky enough to spot owner Derek Stevens enjoying his drink of choice: Captain Morgan and Diet Coke.
