The Great Debate

If you look at social media posts about Las Vegas, by far one of the most engaging (and sometimes divisive) subjects is food. If you post a photo of a truly gorgeous dish (or not so gorgeous, perhaps), you will get engagement, and it will be passionate, one way or the other. We here at Las Vegas Magazine are just as passionate about food; we love experiencing the best the Strip has to offer and bringing the information straight to you in the pages to follow. And in this week’s issue, we’ve packed in plenty of highly recommended culinary experiences—not just food, but drinks as well!

In what is sure to be one of the premier restaurant experiences this year, chef Nobu Matsuhisa himself will be in attendance to host the Taste of Nobu West on Sept. 17 at Nobu Restaurant & Lounge at Caesars Palace, where you get to sample the offerings at 10 different Nobu restaurants (“Culinary Excitement,” p. 12). For true foodies, this is a can’t-miss event.

Over at Resorts World Las Vegas, you’ll find the exciting new pop-up Not a Damn Chance! Burger, which has a special offering on Sept. 18, National Cheeseburger Day (“Limited-Time Excellence,” p. 16 ). And at The Shops at Crystals, enjoy Toca Madera, a high-end Mexican steakhouse like no other (“Fire & Ice,” p. 28).

Now onto drinks! We’ve collected a superb lineup of vintages for connoisseurs (“9 Great Glasses of Wine (And the Places to Get Them),” p. 34), and spotlighted the Roaring 20s-themed venue Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas, where the superb drinks are only the beginning of the retro fun (“Channel Your Inner Flapper,” p. 23).

Wherever you choose to dine or drink this week, please post your experience on social media. We can’t get enough!

Culinary Excitement

Celebrity chef brings an exclusive event to his Caesars Palace restaurant

Las Vegas is known for the incredible events that happen here, from gala parties to intimate, extravagant dinners. This week, get a taste of that as chef Nobu Matsuhisa hosts a very special event at Nobu Restaurant & Lounge at Caesars Palace, Taste of Nobu West.

Matsuhisa has garnered a huge fan following since he opened the first Nobu in 1994, and since then the brand has gone global, celebrated not only for its inventive dishes, but for a dedication to quality and service throughout the company. The celebrity chef opened his first Nobu in Vegas in 1995, and in 2013 introduced what was the largest Nobu in the world, along with the first Nobu hotel.

“Caesars Palace has a special place in my heart—it’s home to our first Nobu hotel and restaurant,” said Matsuhisa in a news release. “I’m excited to be back with the talented team and invite new and returning guests to join us ...”

During the Taste of Nobu West on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m., you will be able to sample dishes from 10 Nobu restaurants from across the west, including such items as wagyu tacos, yellowtail jalapeño, spicy tuna crispy rice and more, both at action stations and through tray-passed appetizers, all while listening to live music. Desserts include the kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) station. You’ll also receive a special takeaway gift. For even more excitement, opt for VIP early entry at 5 p.m., where you will be greeted with extra offerings of champagne and caviar and the opportunity to enjoy a meet and greet with Matsuhisa.

If you can’t attend the Taste of Nobu West, do arrange to dine at Nobu Restaurant & Lounge at Paris Las Vegas. This is a gorgeous space that opened in 2022, and has since become a treasured reservation, with its intimate sushi bar and garden-style dining spaces. And, of course, it features several of Nobu’s signature dishes, such as the black cod with miso, as well as an extensive vegan menu. –Nina King Caesars

Turning Back Time

This star uses technology to take his Las Vegas audiences back to the heyday of his youth

Donny Osmond has some favorite segments during his headlining show on the Las Vegas Strip. There’s the “Donny Rap,” the “Request Segment,” and the climactic part of the performance when inflated, blinking Donny Balls are pitched into the audience for celebratory volleying. The latest addition incorporates artificial intelligence, images of him at age 14 and his grandson to make something magical happen: Osmond duetting with his youthful “Puppy Love”-era self.

“That’s becoming another anchor point to the show,” says Osmond. “People have heard about it. They’ve read about it. They see it on YouTube and in interviews I’ve done. Then when that curtain opens up and you see this three-dimensional character that’s me 53 years ago … I hear the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ coming from the audience.”

Two years in the making, Avatar Donny is a high-tech combination of Osmond’s face as it looked more than a half-century ago and his grandson Daxton, dressed as his grandfather did in the early ’70s when he was frequently featured on covers of teen

idol magazines such as Tiger Beat He’s even wearing a cap that was a trademark back in the day. A fan sent it to him just for the video recording in New York, after which Osmond promptly returned it.

So returning fans have something new to witness the next time they buy tickets for Donny. Due to the technology involved, Osmond needs to be on point during the segment with split-second timing. Other parts of the show are more casual.

“That segment in my show that I call ‘The Request Segment,’ it’s 20 minutes of unknown,” says Osmond. “I don’t know where it’s gonna go, and like I’ve said in times past, it’s probably my favorite part of the show because it’s unknown.

“For some people, that would scare them half to death. That’s why I love those parts of my show, because the audience is entertained in real time, if that makes any sense. We’re making it up as we go, and that’s what’s fun for me and the audience.” –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Limited-Time Excellence

For National Cheeseburger Day, you need to head here

National Cheeseburger Day gets celebrated on Sept. 18, but odds are you don’t need a reason to indulge in this American classic. Still, if you are craving one on that particular day, we couldn’t imagine a better way to commemorate the occasion than at Not A Damn Chance! Burger, a pop-up at Resorts World Las Vegas that’s making serious waves in a very short time with its delicious offerings.

A collaboration between pro skateboarder Neen Williams and Michelin-starred chef Phillip Frankland Lee,

NADC Burger is their brand’s latest expansion (other outlets include New York, Denver, Chicago and Fort Worth, Texas), and once you try one of these babies, you get how word is spreading—and fast! What sets this outpost apart from its other locations is the Vegas-only Breakfast Burger, featuring a 100% wagyu patty, American cheese, pickles, bacon, a fried egg and “special sauce” to put it over the top. Best part of any sandwich you order? You can pair it with a mimosa, beer or canned cocktail. Whatever you

do, do not forget to add the beef tallow fries—crispy, golden perfection. Want to take it up a notch (or two)? Order the Beast Mode fries, loaded with cheese, pickles, jalapeños and special sauce. And to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day, the pop-up offers a “Happy Hour” where, from 1-6 p.m. on Sept. 18, you can enjoy the signature NADC Burger and fries for $18 (normally $21). –Ken Miller

Oh So Enjoyable

Be delighted by the fine foods at this inviting restaurant

Find comforting, delicious coastal cuisine courtesy of chef Shawn McClain when you stop into Balla Italian Soul . Here, Italian classics meet innovation with a menu that features familiar dishes elevated by their own flair and served in a relaxing, home-like atmosphere.

Veggie enthusiasts must start in the “For The Table” section, because there’s much to love. Nosh on delectable heirloom tomatoes with red onion, lemon, arugula and goat cheese before indulging in the beets & ricotta, an absolutely irresistible combination highlighted by basil, pistachio, balsamico bianco and stone fruits. (This writer was delighted by persimmons on her visit.)

Carb lovers should peruse the pizza and pasta sections for some great treats. Try the clam pie with green garlic, Manila clams and lemon for something distinctly coastal, or have the chicken cannelloni in Alfredo sauce with crispy rosemary and Parm for an ultra-rich bite.

Now for the meat of the menu, the mains. Mediterranean sea bream offers light, flaky fish, coated in delicious lemon butter, capers and wild greens for a satisfying dinner, but those who want a heavier meal should consider the heritage pork

chop with roasted peppers and red wine agrodolce or the wagyu short rib that’s been braised for 36 hours with black garlic and served with punchy pickled radicchio and Barolo jus.

This is one of those dining rooms that makes sipping a glass of wine feel oh so right. Pair the Vermentino with a seafood delight or enjoy the Nebbiolo alongside a rich pasta or fattier cut of meat like the 14-ounce ribeye. If wine just doesn’t do it for you, have a cocktail like the refreshing spritz citron with Acqua di Cedro, prosecco and fresh basil.

Italian desserts are the best companions to an after-dinner cup of coffee, and Balla has all the hits. Satisfy your sweet tooth with the decadent dark chocolate tart featuring hazelnuts, mascarpone and Nutella, or have the fluffy bomboloni with sweet cream and raspberry preserves.

As if booking reservations here couldn’t get any better, download the Vegas2Go app to claim 20% off your total check with a minimum order of $50. Because nothing tastes better than a good deal. –Em Jurbala

This One’s For Us

Entertainer has established himself as one of the city’s greats

Barry Manilow’s return to his Las Vegas residency this week carries an extra-special significance: He’s now ours almost exclusively. The superstar songwriter, singer and entertainer recently wrapped his final U.S. tour (dubbed The Last Concerts) in July, meaning that if you want to see Manilow in concert from now on, you’ll have to get a plane ticket to Vegas. Manilow might have turned 82 over the summer, but with a lifetime residency commitment from his host property, he’s

not slowing down anytime soon, not as long as his legion of fans continue to throng to the International Theater to see their hero continue to make history—he long ago broke Elvis Presley’s record of performances there (636), meaning every show sets a new mark.

Of course, as important as the history books are, what really matters is the show itself. Manilow is still a master showman, strutting and dancing around the stage as he takes audiences on a

journey through his extensive catalog, everything from “Mandy” and “I Write the Songs” to “Weekend in New England,” “Even Now” and “Ready to Take a Chance Again.” “Copacabana,” Manilow’s showstopping number, is where the event really shifts into another gear. And what better song for Vegas than one about a showgirl? –Ken Miller

Feel the Power

Attraction features a wide array of experiences and amenities

The first thing I became acutely aware of during my first visit to The Range 702 was how good I felt upon entering, a direct result of the facility’s state-of-the-art air filtration system. And before you even take advantage of one of the many offered shooting experiences, there’s so much to look at here—a great selection of firearms for sale, equipment for budding enthusiasts and a VIP suite with three largescreen TVs for parties, presentations and more.

My friend and I chose the “Black Ops Experience,” in which you get to fire four extremely different weapons. We slapped on safety goggles and headphones (under which there was an added earplug for a higher level of ear safety) and we were on our way.

With our safety instructor remaining close by to give us tips on how to hold the weapons and properly use the sighting, we were off! Each weapon that we tried was more intense than the previous—the semi-

auto Glock 17 (10 rounds) was smooth and accurate, the full-auto MP5 (20 rounds) was smooth and so powerful, the full-auto M4 (20 rounds) was nothing short of mind-blowing in its power, and the M249 SAW (30 rounds) is, frankly, exhilarating in its power, recoil and speed. I truly felt like a VIP after this experience, and only wanted more. –Ken Miller

This venue specializes in a nostalgic party vibe

Nostalgia has never enjoyed a greater moment than right now. Fifty-year-old movies are packing theaters, bands from the ’70s and ’80s are selling out arenas, and throwback parties are the rage up and down the Strip. For one of the best ambiences in that category, Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas simply cannot be beat.

Walking through the entrance here, it’s as if you’ve stepped straight into the pages of an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel! The elegant design, highlighted by giant, color-changing orbs overhead, is complemented by the menu offerings, from the dazzling Daisy’s Sour, made with Haku vodka, Lazzaroni amaretto, lemon and lime juices, rosemary syrup, lavender bitters and egg whites, to the Hibiscus Paloma, pictured, created with 818 blanco tequila, hibiscus syrup, fresh lime juice and Fever-Tree grapefruit soda. Pair these with the chicken tenders and wings from nearby Junior’s; they’re some of the best on the Strip. If you want to feel like an insider, scan the menu’s QR code for the secret cocktail menu.

The party really gets going Thursdays through Saturdays in the evening. At 10 p.m., DJs provide danceable music into the night, and sometimes the venue will even provide themed nights depending on the concert schedule at nearby Resorts World Theater. Nostalgia always keeps us coming back, and so does Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge. –Ken Miller

Sweet Surrender

Sip on decadent, delicious, dessertlike cocktails

Treat yourself! Skip the typical, traditional cocktails and indulge in some decadent, over-the-top, dessert-like cocktails. This is Las Vegas, after all, and no city does beyond better than Sin City. Here, we get you started with a few of our favorite concoctions, all with a chocolatey twist, that will not only give you a buzz from the alcohol but all the sugar, too!

Right outside the behemoth ode to chocolate and candy that is Hershey’s Chocolate World at New York-New York sits The Chocolate Bar. This petite bar serves up big flavors in the form of chocolatey martinis that use various brands of Hershey’s chocolates. One of our faves is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Martini made with Skrewball peanut butter whiskey, Marie Brizard liqueur, half and half, chocolate and peanut butter sauces, all with a sugar rim and garnished with Reese’s peanut butter cups. Other martinis include recipes that use Hershey’s Kisses and Peppermint Patties; for nonchocolate sips try the Jolly-Tini, made with vodka infused with Jolly Rancher candies. The Chocolate Bar also offers an assortment of specialty martinis that include traditional recipes like the Lemon Drop and originals like Mango Coconut and Strawberry Lemonade.

One of the largest, over-the-top cocktails on our list, nay, in the city, can be found at the Candy Martini Bar. This kinda-hidden gem of a bar can be found

at The Linq Promenade on the second floor of the I Love Sugar candy store. Sit at the bar-in-the-round or take a seat at one of the tables that overlooks the promenade through giant windows and check out the insane menu of giant candy martinis (which all come with

fog!). The assortment is outrageous, and all are stuffed to the brim (literally!) with all types of candy. But death by chocolate in the most-exciting way possible comes from the Sinful City. This behemoth is made with chocolate vodka, crème de cacao liqueur,

Sinful City

butterscotch schnapps, almond milk and chocolate syrup; it’s rimmed with vanilla frosting and crushed Oreos and topped with milk chocolate pretzels, yogurt graham crackers, milk chocolate malt balls and fog. Other giant candy martinis overflow with gummy bears, sour worms, cotton candy, mini chocolate candies, gummy sharks and more. The menu also features candy coffee cocktails (with a chocolate aspect) and a flight of mega sugar shots.

If a thick and creamy dessert cocktail is more your taste, then don’t pass up Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer at The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian. While the bar and restaurant offers a menu of specialty cocktails, we say turn to the CrazyShake milkshake portion of the menu for the ultimate

Looking for more dessert-inspired cocktails? Check out these bars and lounges for some great sweet treat cocktails!

indulgence. The list of over-the-top CrazyShakes is nonalcoholic, but the best part is you can ask your server to add whatever spirit you’d like, making the all-ages dessert an adult-friendly treat. We suggest adding some whiskey to the Sweet ’N Salty CrazyShake, a peanut butter shake made with a chocolate and peanut butter-frosted rim with M&M’s and topped with peanut butter cups, a Sugar Daddy, pretzel rods, chocolate-covered pretzels, whipped cream and a caramel and chocolate drizzle. Other CrazyShake recipes are so irresistible you might not be able to order just one, so bring your friends along to order as many as possible. How can one not be tempted by Oreo, strawberry, cake batter, chocolate and caramel shakes topped with all manner of sugary goodness like Fruity Pebbles, sprinkles, chocolate brownies, cookies, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, rock candy, whipped cream and even a slice of Funfetti cake … and then you add some vodka, rum or whiskey?! Yes! OK, so do we have you out of your seat and getting ready to leave your room yet? Go out and indulge—it’s Vegas, after all. –Kiko Miyasato

Food and beverage VP finds his crowning glory

When it comes to the food and beverage industry, you might not meet a more immersed and successful person than Steven Geddes. Today, Geddes is the vice president of food and beverage for Carver Road Hospitality, which operates the popular Resorts World Las Vegas steakhouse, Carversteak. “This (job) is the crowning glory of my 45 years of hard work in all departments,” he says. “Using all my wisdom and skill set and knowledge, it’ll keep me busy and challenged.”

Geddes has helped open some of the most well-known restaurants in

Las Vegas, working both front and back of house, and he’s also helped launch restaurants in Miami, New York, Seattle, Kentucky, L.A. and San Francisco.

“I’ve always believed that our business is about the art of gastronomy,” Geddes says. “A chef, a sommelier, bartender, manager, barback, server, dishwasher— it’s not just food, or beverage, or service, or ambience ... it’s all of it.”

Geddes has worked as a chef, he’s a certified sommelier, he’s worked behind the bar and as a server out on the floor, he’s been a dishwasher and a restaurant

Earlier in the year, Carversteak released a slew of seasonal cocktails including the Chill Zinger, a play on the classic Aperol spritz. The cocktail is a mix of American Harvest vodka, Aperol, St-Germain, lemon, verbena syrup, Mionetto Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut and sea salt. –KM

manager, and he created the wine program at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits in Las Vegas—there’s really nothing this man hasn’t done in the industry.

It comes from all the different skill sets that I’ve learned and acquired, and it allows me to look at a problem from more than one angle, and that is one of my biggest superpowers—to be able to talk with chefs, bartenders, servers, and understand what’s going on.” –Kiko Miyasato

Toca Madera brings together Mexican cuisine and a Southern California vibe

No matter if you are here for an icecold drink or a flaming tomahawk, the incredible Mexican cuisine you’ll find at Toca Madera, the L.A.-based Mexican steakhouse in The Shops at Crystals, has you covered.

Head into this luxurious space that starts with the bar, encouraging conversation and mingling . While you wait for your table, grab a drink like the Los Muertos, a gorgeous combination of reposado tequila and the flavors of blood orange, lime, black agave and hibiscus. There might just be an element of fire to entrance you! If you order the Ghost Rider margarita, in addition to fire, you’ll get blanco tequila, lime, agave and mint. For your smoke (and heat), order the Tranquilo, which features mezcal, yuzu, matcha agave, Ancho Reyes Verde liqueur and grapefruit. Go ahead and take your drink to the table and begin menu perusal. Toca Madera features a variety of items that go far beyond a steakhouse, combining global flavors for an inventive menu that will satisfy vegetarians and carnivores alike. Appetizers here will certainly excite the appetite, with such

Flaming tomahawk

items as guacamole with lime pepitas and pomegranate, served with plantain chips. The queso fundido is accented by soyriso, mushrooms and onion and served with flour tortillas. The truffle quesadilla has both white truffle oil and black truffles; you can never get too much truffle! A fun little bite is the wonton tacos, which Toca Madera serves in two ways: A5 wagyu with kizami wasabi and tuna with a truffle ponzu and caviar.

For a little more ice, make sure you order a raw bar selection like the Sashimi Mexicano. This dish brings together ahi tuna, cucumber and avocado to create a flowerlike presentation that will wow you. You’ll also find oyster

osetra caviar with egg, shallot, crème fraîche and blinis, so go a little wild.

Main dishes range from seabass, truffle mushroom and al pastor tacos to the chicken hot rock, with free-range fowl. Get short rib or chicken tinga enchiladas or the Noble burger, with two A5 smash patties on toasted brioche with white cheddar and shaved onions. Or indulge in Mayan prawns with chipotle-mezcal butter, diver scallops or seared salmon with hibiscus lime butter.

As is expected in a steakhouse, the meats are impressive. The Flaming Tomahawk is a 40-ounce experience

that creates a tableside spectacle, served with bone marrow and chimichurri sauce. Ribeyes, porterhouse and striploin add more choices, with an 8-ounce Kuroge Washu beef top cap worthy of particular notice. Add colossal prawns, lobster tails, caviar and more to go over the top.

725.255.9030

Churros, Oaxacan chocolate mousse and strawberry tres leches cake are all delightful, but the signature brown butter cake with brown butter bourbon sauce is really something special. Accompany that with an espresso martini or a digestif, and you end the meal with a big smile.

iHeartRadio Music Festival is the playlist for the people

If you’re feeling like you don’t have the pulse on today’s popular music, pop on over to the iHeartRadio Music Festival, returning to T-Mobile Arena for its 15th year in Vegas. Two nights, two radically different lineups, and one unmistakable statement: Today’s music busts right through genre walls. The lineup reads like a playlist set to shuffle. Bryan Adams’ timeless ballads share the bill with Diplo’s bass-heavy EDM, LL COOL J’s hip-hop swagger and Lil Wayne’s genre-bending rap dominance. Maroon 5 brings polished pop, while Tate McRae injects Gen Z heartbreak anthems. By the time Justice drops its French electronic firepower and Sammy Hagar channels classic rock grit, the setlist looks less like a concert schedule and more like a cross-generational mixtape.

The rest of the lineup sounds just as sonically diverse. Ed Sheeran delivers stripped-down storytelling alongside GloRilla’s sharp-edged hip-hop and Jelly Roll’s soul-baring country-rap fusion. John Fogerty—who once shook Woodstock—reminds us where American rock began, while Mariah Carey proves she still reigns supreme with her five octaves. The Offspring cranks up the punk nostalgia, and Tim McGraw grounds the festival in country roots. It’s an unusual collection on paper,

but on stage, it feels like the best Spotify playlist come to life.

That’s the magic of iHeartRadio’s festival formula: It’s a parade of talent you’d never expect to see together anywhere else. A decade and a half in, the festival has become its own kind of archive—a live diary of popular music evolving in real time.

7:30 p.m. Sept. 19-20, starting at $72 plus tax and fee. iheart.com

But beyond the star power, the iHeart stage says something about where culture is now. The festival lineup looks exactly like the way younger audiences consume music: with no patience for genre boundaries. Spotify playlists and TikTok trends have trained listeners to jump from Carey to Jelly Roll without missing a beat, and this festival bottles that fluidity into one weekend. It’s not just about headliners; it’s about capturing the way music fandom itself has shifted.

It’s also a nod to Las Vegas as a music town. Between blockbuster residencies and high-profile festivals like iHeart, the city is a proving ground where icons share billing with rising stars, often in the same night. Speaking of rising stars, McRae and GloRilla might be new names compared to Fogerty or Adams, but that’s the point. iHeart’s stage is about bridging nostalgia with discovery. For older fans, it’s the thrill of hearing legends. For younger fans, it’s the viral power of today’s chart climbers. Together, it creates an electric atmosphere where every generation gets its moment to sing along.

For those not flying into Vegas, Hulu is streaming both nights live, ensuring the festival’s cultural reach stretches well beyond the Strip. But for fans in the arena, the experience is personal: two nights that prove how far-ranging the current musical moment really is.

Fifteen years in, iHeartRadio Music Festival is a reminder that pop culture lives in the space where Carey and The Offspring can share a stage, where Jelly Roll can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Sheeran, and where audiences can finally see their own eclectic playlist come to life.

If you are looking for a great glass of wine, there is no shortage of venues all over Vegas that can satisfy the desire. Here, we highlight some of those sips and the fabulous places they’re served at. If in doubt about your wine, see if a sommelier is available—these pros always give great advice and can give you options if your wine is sold out.

Floor-to-ceiling two-story windows flood the room with light or create a magical Stripside night. Order a great dry-aged steak and you’ll almost be required to choose wine, too. Our recommendation: The 2023 Sauvignon blanc from New Zealand’s Yealands Wine.

You’ll find a tremendous number of wines in two-story racks ranged around the gourmet restaurant, and after you peruse the menu for food, you can choose from a list of 100 wines by the glass. Our recommendation: The 2022 Granbazán Etiqueta Verde Albarino Rias Baixas. (It’s vegan!).

(The Venetian Resort. 702.414.3737 )

Emeril Lagasse’s respected Las Vegas steakhouse in restaurant row is elegant yet relaxed with a curated menu of wine by the glass. Our recommendation: The 2023 Kistler chardonnay from Les Noisetiers in California’s Russian River Valley delivers hazelnut notes.

(Westgate Las Vegas. 702.732.5277 )

A favorite for special occasions in Las Vegas, this longtime favorite is treasured by visitors and locals alike for its elegant atmosphere and quality steaks. (Not surprised, right?) Our recommendation: A dinner pairing—it’s always worth the price.

(Park MGM. 702.730.7777 )

This huge marketplace and food hall accents all things Italian, and that includes wine. With several bars around the space, you’re sure to find a space to sit for a sip. On Sept. 19, the Endless Summer Festa offers complimentary pours of wine and cocktails. Our recommendation: At Eataly Bar, order the Lavignone rosé from Picco Maccario in Piemonte (perfect to sip with a pizza).

rant is light and bright. The wine menu features a long list of wines from primarily Italy and California. Our recommendation: For an easy sparkling sip that you’ll want multiple glasses of, try the La Marca prosecco from Veneto, Italy.

(Four Queens. 702.387.5175)

Another locals favorite, Hugo’s Cellar is the classic old-school steakhouse, offering roses for the ladies and chocolate-dipped strawberries in a brick-lined environment. Our recommendation: Match the amenities with a glass of champagne like Perrier-Jouët—buy the bottle!

(Rio Las Vegas. 21+, riolasvegas.com)

This is one of the most interesting spaces in Las Vegas, a stone-, brickand wood-lined area that seems as if it’s imported direct from an Italian winery. Here, you’ll find wine flights, spirit flights, food and more, and you can personalize it. Our recommendation: The cabernet flight.

(410 S. Rampart Blvd. No.120. 702.462.2795 )

This trendy restaurant is Vegas’ Summerlin community features chef James Trees’ cuisine, and a nice outdoor patio. Our recommendation: The Dönnhoff Riesling from the Leistenberg winery in Germany.

Carlos Santana continues to stir up the soul at his ongoing residency

In the hands of Carlos Santana, a guitar becomes a conduit to the divine. For 13 years, the 76-yearold virtuoso has transformed the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay into something approaching a temple, where his Santana: Greatest Hits Live cy has turned from mere entertain ment into something approaching a musical pilgrimage.

and November dates follow a trium phant May run, giving fans more op portunities to witness Santana in his element. What makes this residency endure isn’t just the hits, though Santana has an arsenal of them. From “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va” to “Maria Maria” and “Smooth,” each track arrives time less and electric. Santana doesn’t perform these songs; he channels them, letting each solo spiral into uncharted musical territory.

perfect. March brought latest album—a career-spanning retrospective featuring previously unreleased collaborations with Mi

the past but his relentless forward momentum. Recent collaborations like “Me Retiro” with Mexican group Grupo Frontera showcase his drive to explore new musical territories.

In the House of Blues’ intimate confines, fans witness a master craftsman locked into grooves that feel both ancient and futuristic. When Santana establishes the night’s tone with “Jingo,” “Evil Ways,” and “Black Magic Woman/ Gypsy Queen,” he’s creating sacred space. The 1,800-capacity venue becomes a temple where boundaries dissolve between performer and audience, between past and present.

Unlike legacy acts content to coast on past glories, Santana refuses farewell tour mythology. “I don’t think like that,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I’ve seen people who retire every year. Every tour for the last 20 years has been their last tour. When I’m done, I’m not even going to tell anybody. I’ll just do the last concert.”

For now, that concert is in the faroff future. What’s here is the chance to witness an artist who can make a roomful of strangers feel like they’re communing with the divine power of music.

The ladies of Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease show how fun is done at Play Playground at Luxor

The beautiful and talented ladies of Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease stepped off the stage for a spell and posed for our cameras as they got their game on at nextdoor, Play Playground. The 15,000-square-foot space at Luxor is kid-like fun for adults, with cocktails and more than 20 immersive, hands-on games. The Fantasy dancers took time to explore some of the games, including Poker Parkour and Bullseye Bounce Make your night one to remember when you check out the bar, but make sure to start or end the evening with tickets to Fantasy. The adults-only, topless revue has been hypnotizing and enter-

taining Las Vegas visitors for more than 25 years. With 15 choreographed numbers set to past and present pop hits, the cast of professionally trained dancers fulfill all your bedroom fantasies. The show is perfect for singles and couples of any persuasion and provides the perfect combination of dancing, live singing, immersive sets, beautiful costuming and, of course, sexiness. Audience interaction is a huge part of Fantasy, too, and lead singer Lorena Peril performs her hosting duties with aplomb. Not only did the Fantasy ladies explore Play Playground, they also answered some fun questions centered around the words “games” and “play”.

Explore the science behind nuclear reactions at Atomic Museum Vegas

During a recent conversation with a friend, this writer learned that even locals forget we have an array of museums in the valley, filled to the brim with all kinds of fascinating information and artifacts. And one of the most fascinating of them, Atomic Museum Vegas, keeps an ever-changing catalog of exhibits about topics surrounding the Nevada Test Site, a nuclear testing facility just 65 miles north of Vegas. By strolling from display to display, visitors gain an understanding of what global factors necessitated the test site, the way the facility affected Las Vegas locals and the pop culture boom that emerged from the general public’s fascination with the work they were doing out in the middle of the desert. While this expansive coverage certainly gives an in-depth understanding of nuclear testing in the context of building weaponry, museum curators realized that most people have limited knowledge of atoms, reactions and radiation in any other sense. That’s why at the beginning of this year, Atomic Museum Vegas opened its Atomic Odyssey exhibit (pictured opposite page), an interactive experience that’s both a refresher for anyone who’s forgotten what they studied in school and an easily digestible lesson for young ones who haven’t learned about atoms yet.

Enter this part of the exhibit off the main lobby before entering the main museum to learn about elements, nuclear reactions and so much more. Stop at the interactive table in the first room to build a few atoms, increasing in difficulty. Because the exhibit is intended to educate, visitors will find themselves needing information from the various wall displays to complete this task. Once basics are established, head to the next rooms to find more interactive elements.

Step up to arcade-style fusion and fission simulators to participate in some beginner-friendly reaction experiments. These gamelike elements make what would otherwise be an advanced topic very accessible to most people, including school-aged children. Museum curators have simply done an excellent job of making complex information very understandable and interesting.

After splitting some nuclei, dive into the world of radiation, a word that sometimes intimidates people.

Typically when we think of radiation we think of things like microwaves, X-rays and nuclear waste, but the reality is we’re surrounded by radiation all the time. And what this portion of the walk through explains excellently is that there are many different kinds of radiation that can do many different things. The interactive activity lets visitors simulate how different types of radiation pass through various materials, offering a greater understanding of how the waves affect us in our lives. In fact, you’ll even learn that we spontaneously emit small amounts of radiation.

How neat!

Funky mood lighting and glowing displays make for great ambience in this space, but some of the most visually striking elements come in the form of lenticular art by James Stanford. These glowing, colorful visual works explore the atomic theme through a creative lens, making the Atomic Odyssey an engaging journey. And that’s just the beginning!
