A Legacy of Love

It seems almost impossible to gauge the cultural impact Bob Marley has had upon the world, not only during the time he was alive but in the decades following his untimely death. His philosophy, his music and his presence all combine for an almost mythical figure, one that sought to unite the world in a message of peace and love.

And whether you’re a huge fan or someone who knows nothing about the man and what he stood for, you gotta drop this issue right now and get tickets for Bob Marley One Love at Mandalay Bay (“One Love. One Heart.” p. 30). This immersive, interactive and multifaceted attraction/production features everything from displays and spaces to dance to live DJs and performers rendering Marley classics.

Speaking of live music, there’s plenty more where that came from in Vegas this week, and two bands are sure to give fans plenty of nostalgic goose bumps: Smash Mouth, which helped define the ’90s, at Westgate Las Vegas (“Feel-Good Entertainment,” p. 18), and The Psychedelic Furs, which helped define the ’80s (“Ageless Soundscapes,” p. 40), at Mandalay Bay.

Hidden Oasis

Escape the desert heat at this tropical lounge

If there’s one thing summer calls for, it’s fruity, tropical drinks. Nothing has the cooling power to battle this blazing heat quite like an ice-cold mai tai, and at Resorts World Las Vegas there’s a tucked-away tiki bar serving up delicious drinks, all in the comfort of crisp air conditioning— Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge

From the casino floor, venture down the hallway just to the right of the escalators that lead up to the conference rooms. Down that corridor, stroll past Genting Palace to find this chic hot spot drenched in groovy, green lighting. Claim a seat at the bar or lounge in plush chairs by the tables and enjoy some seriously refreshing bevs, all served in the coolest cups you’ll find on the Strip. (Move out of the way, yardies.)

Plan to order a few drinks here, because there’s no way to choose just one. For a sweet and citrusy treat, try the Feelin’ Coconutty, made with Captain Morgan, Banks 5 Island rum, Kalani coconut liqueur, ube coconut syrup, pineapple and lime. If coconut is the vibe but you’d like something a little more spirit-forward, try the Funky Monkey, featuring coconut fat-washed Teeling Irish Whiskey, Giffard banana liqueur, Kalani coconut liqueur, bitters and nutmeg.

Find yourself exceptionally refreshed when you sip the Emerald Isle, a concoction of Hendrick’s gin, Midori, Cocchi Americano aperitivo, honey, cucumber and lime, or the Guava Gal, made with No. 3 London dry gin, Lillet Rouge, guava syrup and lime. If fantastic presentation does it for you, order the Fire Dancer, a delicious creation made with Patron Reposado, Tanteo habanero tequila, Nixta elote liqueur and spicy mango syrup served in a funky character cup and garnished with a flaming lime.

This is certainly a place you’ll want to bring all your friends to, and when you do, a punch bowl just makes sense. Quench all the thirsts with the Freaki Tiki with Herradura silver tequila, St-Germain, fassionola syrup, lime and hibiscus ginger beer for something fruity and floral, or have a sugary spectacle like the Hurricane, pictured, with Bacardi superior rum, Myers’s dark rum, pineapple, orange, lime and grenadine. –Em Jurbala

Greatest Hit

This country singer’s hot spot is a chart-topper

Great eats, live tunes and a rooftop bar with a phenomenal view all wrapped into one? Sign us up! That’s exactly what you’ll find at Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Bar right in the heart of the Strip at 63 CityCenter.

The country vibes are off the charts as soon as you enter this hot spot with tractors, guitars and all kinds of interesting memorabilia making it clear that you’re in the “Dirt Road Anthem” singer’s fantasyland. And with a rotating lineup of live musicians and bands playing daily, fans will surely be satisfied before even digging into these delicious dishes.

Speaking of, the food here is a cut above your typical country bar food. Start with the spicy buffalo chicken dip for a rich and tangy treat. Served with housemade and seasoned kettle chips, this shareable offers the perfect balance of creamy cheese, savory chicken and crunchy potatoes.

For mains, you’ll find all kinds of Southern comfort classics like chicken and waffles, Grandma’s pot roast and meatloaf, but the real standouts are the dishes you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see at a country bar. The citrus salmon stuns with light and flaky texture and a flavorful citrus butter sauce. Paired with potatoes and garden salad, this satisfying plate packs so much flavor you might need to order a second one to go. If you happen to stop in on a Friday, consider the seared ahi tuna tostada with achioteseared tuna, crispy wontons, gochujang aioli, sweet heat slaw and cilantro.

This is the sort of place where you stay awhile, so order a drink and wander up to the second floor, where you’ll find a second stage and an expansive terrace that overlooks Las Vegas Boulevard. Order the For The Girls for a floral-flavored concoction of pear Grey Goose vodka, lavender, lemon and prosecco. Or try the Sawed-Off Old-Fashioned, made with Bulleit bourbon, Nixta Licor de Elote liqueur, Nobel Cut Orangecello, spiced brown sugar and chocolate bitters. –Em Jurbala

Feel-Good Entertainment

Relive the ’90s with this hit-making band

If you’re of a certain age (hello, Gen Xer!), get ready to hop on a music time machine. The multiplatinum legends behind the soundtrack to your premillennium youth are taking you on a trip.

Smash Mouth , founded in San Jose, Calif., in 1996, brings the ultimate feel-good soundtrack, with hits that instantly transport you back to road trips, movie nights and those perfect moments when life felt limitless—you know, the time before we began doomscrolling and our attention spans lasted longer than the length of a TikTok.

The band’s journey began when Steve Harwell, Kevin Coleman, Greg Camp and Paul De Lisle formed the group, originally drawing from punk and ska influences before evolving into the pop-rock powerhouse we know today. Its breakthrough came with 1997’s Fush Yu Mang, featuring the groove-heavy “Walkin’ on the Sun,” which catapulted the band into mainstream success. But it was 1999’s Astro Lounge that truly cemented Smash Mouth’s legacy, delivering the cultural phenomenon “All Star.”

Throughout its career, Smash Mouth has sold over 10 million albums worldwide, its music featured in films, television shows and commercials. Its sound became syn-

onymous with the optimistic spirit of the late 1990s and early 2000s, providing the perfect soundtrack for endless summers.

In 2023, Smash Mouth released its first studio album, Missile Toes, in 11 years, marking its first album with new singer Zach Goode. Since Goode joined the band in 2022, the band has also released several singles, including a cover of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Their latest single, “Blinding Lights,” was released in January of this year.

The current members—De Lisle, Goode, Michael Klooster, Randy Cooke and Sean Hurwitz—have mastered the art of connecting with an audience, creating an atmosphere that leaves fans feeling pretty darn good. Their live shows are pure, unadulterated fun, a full-blown celebration of our collective youth where every song feels like a greatest hit and every lyric is a shared memory. Now you have a chance to belt out “Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me” with all your angst and might.

Who can resist music this universally beloved? We sure can’t.

The Bottom Line

Seven bronze beauties have found their way back to the Las Vegas spotlight. The iconic Crazy Girls statue —featuring dancers immortalized in bronze—has officially moved into its new home at Circa Resort & Casino.

Crazy Girls was a Las Vegas institution, running for decades and helping establish the city’s reputation for sexy entertainment. The bronze masterpiece, sculpted by artist Michael Conine, was inspired by the revue’s provocative “No Ifs, Ands or …” poster and was installed at

the Riviera in 1997.

“The Crazy Girls statue is as cheeky as it gets—literally,” said Derek Stevens, CEO of Circa Resort & Casino. “It’s a playful nod to the unapologetic fun and flair that built this city.”

After the Riviera closed in 2015, the statue briefly resided at Planet Hollywood before going into storage in 2021. Its return to the public eye recently was done in true Vegas style: a motorcade escort down the Strip, complete with original cast members stepping out of limousines

to commemorate the moment.

Located near the elevator to Legacy Club 60 floors up, it’s a great photo op and an iconic reminder of the city’s entertainment legacy.

“It captures the spirit of Las Vegas and we hope it brings good luck to all visitors who stop by to say hello to these beautiful ladies on their way to Legacy Club,” added Stevens. –Genevie Durano

Check out your favorite teams at this celebrity chef’s fun spot

A combination of great restaurant and sports bar, Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Sports Kitchen is endlessly entertaining. For starters, there’s so much to look at here, from the Flavortown memorabilia to the more than 30 televisions showing your favorite teams. But the real star here is Fieri’s food and drink lineup. When it comes to comforting libations, there’s no shortage of choices here. You can order a margarita three ways—strawberry, caliente (from jalapeños), and with Grand Marnier. And Bloody Marys don’t get much more over-the-top than Guy’s Famous BBQ version, featuring not only house-made Bloody Mary mix but Guy’s bourbon brown sugar BBQ sauce and Guy’s buffalo sauce, all topped with candied bacon, Andouille sausage and a veggie skewer. (It’s also available in a 51-ounce bowl version for large, hungover groups.)

The main courses here are all designed to stretch your stomach in the best way possible. Fieri’s flair for delicious decadence is on full display in offerings like: the quesa-birria Mexican “pizza,” a cheese-crust quesadilla topped with braised beef, pico de gallo, crumbled cotija cheese, cilantro and lime crema—with birria consome for dipping, of course; Flavortown brisket mac and cheese, enhanced with brisket burnt ends, Guy’s bourbon brown sugar BBQ sauce and crispy onions; and Santo steak frites, featuring 16-ounce New York strip, an ancho-coffee rub, Santo salsa verde, a fry trio and crispy onions. –Ken Miller

Sweet Surrender

Sip on decadent, delicious, dessertlike cocktails

Treat yourself! Skip the typical, traditional cocktails and indulge in some decadent, over-the-top, dessert-like cocktails. This is Las Vegas, after all, and no city does beyond better than Sin City. Here, we get you started with a few of our favorite concoctions, all with a chocolatey twist, that will not only give you a buzz from the alcohol but all the sugar, too!

Right outside the behemoth ode to chocolate and candy that is Hershey’s Chocolate World at New York-New York sits The Chocolate Bar. This petite bar serves up big flavors in the form of chocolatey martinis that use various brands of Hershey’s chocolates. One of our faves is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Martini made with Skrewball peanut butter whiskey, Marie Brizard liqueur, half and half, chocolate and peanut butter sauces, all with a sugar rim and garnished with Reese’s peanut butter cups. Other martinis include recipes that use Hershey’s Kisses and Peppermint Patties; for nonchocolate sips try the Jolly-Tini, made with vodka infused with Jolly Rancher candies. The Chocolate Bar also offers an assortment of specialty martinis that include traditional recipes like the Lemon Drop and originals like Mango Coconut and Strawberry Lemonade.

One of the largest, over-the-top cocktails on our list, nay, in the city, can be found at the Candy Martini Bar. This kinda-hidden gem of a bar can be found

at The Linq Promenade on the second floor of the I Love Sugar candy store. Sit at the bar-in-the-round or take a seat at one of the tables that overlooks the promenade through giant windows and check out the insane menu of giant candy martinis (which all come with

fog!). The assortment is outrageous, and all are stuffed to the brim (literally!) with all types of candy. But death by chocolate in the most-exciting way possible comes from the Sinful City. This behemoth is made with chocolate vodka, crème de cacao liqueur,

butterscotch schnapps, almond milk and chocolate syrup; it’s rimmed with vanilla frosting and crushed Oreos and topped with milk chocolate pretzels, yogurt graham crackers, milk chocolate malt balls and fog. Other giant candy martinis overflow with gummy bears, sour worms, cotton candy, mini chocolate candies, gummy sharks and more. The menu also features candy coffee cocktails (with a chocolate aspect) and a flight of mega sugar shots.

If a thick and creamy dessert cocktail is more your taste, then don’t pass up Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer at The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian. While the bar and restaurant offers a menu of specialty cocktails, we say turn to the CrazyShake milkshake portion of the menu for the ultimate

indulgence. The list of over-the-top CrazyShakes is nonalcoholic, but the best part is you can ask your server to add whatever spirit you’d like, making the all-ages dessert an adult-friendly treat. We suggest adding some whiskey to the Sweet ’N Salty CrazyShake, a peanut butter shake made with a chocolate and peanut butter-frosted rim with M&M’s and topped with peanut butter cups, a Sugar Daddy, pretzel rods, chocolate-covered pretzels, whipped cream and a caramel and chocolate drizzle. Other CrazyShake recipes are so irresistible you might not be able to order just one, so bring your friends along to order as many as possible. How can one not be tempted by Oreo, strawberry, cake batter, chocolate and caramel shakes topped with all manner of sugary goodness like Fruity Pebbles, sprinkles, chocolate brownies, cookies, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, rock candy, whipped cream and even a slice of Funfetti cake … and then you add some vodka, rum or whiskey?! Yes! OK, so do we have you out of your seat and getting ready to leave your room yet? Go out and indulge—it’s Vegas, after all. –Kiko Miyasato

The best move was the move to Vegas for lead bartender

After seven years of bartending in Washington, Daniel Navarro says, “That’s where I really started learning the craft of bartending and the artistry of it; read a ton of books and experimented with flavors. But I wanted to start bartending on a bigger scale, and I couldn’t think of a better place than Las Vegas.”

So he made the move from his home state in 2019 and started at Chica at The Venetian, where he still works today. “The first night working, I really knew

how to hustle,” he says. “I was washing glassware, taking out trash, just assisting wherever I possibly could and by the end of the night, the lead bartender was like, ‘I love that hustle, love that grind!’ And that was it from there.” Because of his hard work, Navarro is now lead bartender.

“I’m constantly working on different infusions, foams, airs, different things for cocktails for the next cocktail or menu,” Navarro says. “I’m still in the books, learning about spirits, flavors, always trying to

Andiamo Steakhouse

is a model of quality and consistency

Lest you are left wondering why The D in downtown Las Vegas is so named, wonder no more: It stands for “Detroit,” the home of owner Derek Stevens and the inspiration for much of what lies inside the property itself. First and foremost among these is Andiamo Steakhouse, an outpost of the award-winning Detroit favorite that’s been satisfying diners since opening its doors in 2013. And its recipe for success is simple: The menu remains largely unchanged, focusing instead on the utmost quality of the experience.

The dining room itself is classic elegance, with dark woods, perfectly appointed tables and booths, and a staff that wants to make you feel like the most special person in the room. A massive wine list means you’ll be able to find your perfect pairing, whether you go with red meat or seafood, and the cocktail menu fea-

tures all your favorite classics, from Old-Fashioneds and Manhattans to Cosmopolitans.

Like its original location, Andiamo stresses a philosophy of madefrom-scratch dishes, all with the finest ingredients available. When it comes to appetizers, you’ll definitely want to check out one of the restaurant’s specialties—calamari, flash-fried with banana peppers and ammoglio sauce and tender as can be. Of course, you’ll also want to try another signature item, the Andiamo grande meatball, an absolute beast and served with pomodoro sauce, whipped ricotta and Parmigiano-Reggiano. It’s practically a meal!

Seafood fans will definitely want to try the fruti di mare, packed with clams, mussels, lobster, scallops and shrimp in a tomato broth and served with homemade linguine. But don't stop there. The lobster pot pie, shrimp scampi, pan-seared sea scallops and Pacific sole are all worth your attention.

This being a classic steakhouse, you can also rely on some of your favorite salads. The iceberg wedge here is absolutely a must-try for fans of the staple, made with applewood spiced bacon jam, smoked ham,

Gruyère, heirloom cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and your choice of Thousand Island or Roquefort. Vegetarian? Try the beets and brie salad, made with slow-roasted red and gold beets with arugula, citrus supremes, brie cheese mousse, sugar-spiced walnuts and feta cheese.

If you have a steak here, take comfort in the fact that you are arguably in the best hands in town; Andiamo’s steaks are sourced from Pat LaFrieda and Stockyard Premium and graded in the top 8 percent of all beef in the country. In addition, the in-house 30-day aging process ensures your cut will be as tender and flavorful as possible, whether it’s an 8-ounce filet mignon, 24-ounce porterhouse, 16-ounce bone-in New York strip or a 32-ounce tomahawk.

If you really want to take your cut over the top, order it Oscar-style with crab, asparagus and Bearnaise.

Andiamo also prides itself on the high quality of its other meats, from the 12-ounce rib pork chop (with French onion linguine and Gruyère) and veal chop (topped with wild mushrooms in a marsala sauce) to charbroiled Colorado lamb chops (with Grecian-style marinade, olive tapenade and roasted tomatoes).

Bob Marley Hope Road invites you to celebrate the life and music of a legend

Bob Marley is reggae music’s biggest star. The artist and his band The Wailers, from Kingston, Jamaica, have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. Time named 1977’s Exodus the greatest album of the 20th Century. And Rolling Stone named Marley one of the 100 Greatest

Artists of All Time. Marley’s short life ended at just 36 years old in 1981, but his music has lived on in acclaim long after his death. And now Las Vegas celebrates the superstar, his music and his life with the first-ever immersive experience, Bob Marley Hope Road, at Mandalay Bay. “To actually see Hope Road come to life, vision

to reality … I just feel excited for everyone to experience it,” said Cedella Marley, Bob Marley’s daughter and executive producer of BMHR. “I’m not sure if Daddy ever performed in Vegas but Vegas is the mecca and everyone wants to perform here, and unfortunately he could not be here, but when you come to Hope Road you’ll feel his spirit. … You’ll say, ‘I felt Bob.’ It’s the best we could do to bring you his spirit and experience him.”

During the day, fans and ones that want to get to know the superstar have the chance to immerse themselves in all things Marley beginning with the journey down Hope Road, a hall filled with the history of his life and music through LED projections. The experience continues through a series of rooms like Dance Hall, where guests can grab a cocktail at the bar and get down to a live DJ playing reggae music. Other highlights inside the various rooms include trying your hand at playing the bongos inside Jammin’ Tree, remixing Marley’s own music inside the recording studio set up in the city of Trenchtown, and feeling the mystic vibrations inside the moving Cathedral room where waterfalls flow using innovative technology.

coming to life through a cast of dozens of singers, actors and dancers, many direct from Jamaica. The nonseated show begins inside Dance Hall, where you’ll learn about Jamaican culture and language. The group then moves through the rooms to watch amazing performances, including aerialists that fly and twist around the huge tree structure inside Jammin’ Tree to hit songs like “Turn Your Lights Down Low” and “Is This Love.” Inside the streets of Trenchtown, you’ll catch the DJ playing inside a 1973 VW bus that was restored to match the original tour bus of Marley and The Wailers. Inside Cathedral, you’ll witness a moving performance by dancers that seem to shake the room with powerful vibrations set to “No Woman, No Cry” and “Exodus.” Inside the last room, guests are given 3D glasses to experience high-tech magic that brings Bob Marley to life as he takes the stage and performs his music, with the mind-blowing visuals seeming to encompass the room.

At night, Bob Marley Hope Road turns into a ticketed 75-minute show guided through the same spaces as the day, but

Bob Marley Hope Road is a powerful, immersive experience that uses storytelling, multisensory environments and electrifying music and live performances to celebrate a man that used his music to not only entertain but to make a positive social impact on the world. Now is the perfect time to experience the peace and love Marley embodied and his hope that, through music, he could change the world for the better.

In the fall of 2023, Bellagio celebrated its 25th year on the Las Vegas Strip. In honor of the momentous occasion, Las Vegas Magazine highlights one of the resort’s most iconic offerings, the Fountains of Bellagio. It’s one of the most stunning attractions on the Strip, but it doesn’t just happen. The fountains have a crackerjack team working behind the scenes, 365 days a year, to ensure that the watery spectacle continues to flow beautifully after more than two decades. We went beyond the façade and captured the inner workings of the fountains—an operation that few are privy

to. Dozens of employees work on the fountains, including engineers, pool specialists and maintenance divers—and each employee is scuba-certified and holds Open Water Diver or Rescue Diver certifications. Get to know three of those employees, who have all been with the Bellagio since day one. You’ll also get a peek of the support area, where the equipment and mechanics for the fountains are stored. It’s a cavernous space just off the 8.5-acre Lake Bellagio that continues underneath the hotel. The inside look continues with the bat cave, compression room and the control tower.

What does your current job entail?

I handle daily fountain maintenance. I do everything from working on lights to diving and repairing pipes and structures. I also rig and drive a forklift, booms and scissor lifts for the Conservatory.

It takes WET (the company behind the design and choreography of the fountain performances) several months to develop, design and perfect a new song for the catalog. Some of the songs include:

In celebration of Bellagio’s 25th anniversary, the resort features a new fountains show:

Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli

Cher
Lady Gaga
Bruno Mars

What are some of the most important things to remember when operating the fountains?

I always remind myself to enjoy the beauty and elegance of the Bellagio fountains—it’s so amazing how they make people

cry with joy and happiness and how they’ve become such an iconic Las Vegas experience.

How many dives would you say you’ve done?

I can’t even guess. We always log our dives, but after

25 years of doing this, I have lost count!

What do you love most about your job?

Diving and doing the lake maintenance (especially in the summer)!

Tell us an interesting story or two about your job at the fountains.

Working here has been the greatest job. I get to meet so many incredible people, from the people we work with to build structures on the lake, to singers and athletes who work with the fountains, to my day-to-day colleagues.

What do you love about living in Las Vegas?

Working on the world-famous fountains is a huge plus. I love that Las Vegas is a 24-hour town and much smaller than Los Angeles!

This is where the magic happens. The main computers that control the lighting, sound and performance numbers are located in this tower. Here is also where you’ll find the “famous” green button. At the top of the tower, accessible only by ladder, workstations command awesome views overlooking the lake. Each choreographed show is stored on computers. To start a new show, the file is uploaded and the green button initiates the fountains—a button only a handful of people have pushed, including this writer!

What’s the best part about working for Bellagio?

The people I work with. I have the honor to work with some of the most talented people!

Maintenance Engineer

Where are you from?

Born in Texas; raised in Las Vegas.

What is your work background?

I served in the U.S. Marines and worked as a Golden Nugget security officer.

When you got hired by Bellagio, did you have the title you have now?

No, I started at Bellagio as a security first responder before eventually joining the fountains team.

-Arnold Cabrera

What was it like at Bellagio when it opened?

It kind of felt like the first day of school. You don’t know anyone, you get lost easily and you’re trying to make a good impression, but everyone is excited for what’s to come.

What does your current job entail?

I work to maintain the tens of thousands of components that are in the lake. I handle proactive maintenance—fix it before it breaks. I adjust and calibrate the devices that you see during a show.

How many dives would you say you’ve done?

Well, I dive every day and I’ve been doing this for close to 20 years, so I have done a lot of dives!

What do you love most

about your job?

That it doesn’t feel like a job. Every day is like a box of chocolates!

What do you love about living in Las Vegas?

I love the heat and how I don’t have to wear a raincoat or shovel snow or

It’s so loud inside the compressor room that one is advised to wear industrial-strength earmuffs. Inside this room sits two of the large compressors (of 10 total) used in the show. The compressors operate at about 3,000 horsepower and push through approximately 9,000 cubic feet of air per minute. Large storage tanks of soft water, used for the fog that drifts across the lake, are also in this room. The ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) panel that protects people and equipment is also here. The panel shuts down all the electricity on the lake in the event of an emergency or electrocution, reacting faster than the blink of an eye.

rake up leaves. Working at Bellagio is awesome; your co-workers are like family and there are many opportunities to advance in your career.

What are some of the best parts about working for Bellagio?

Bellagio provides a wonderful, safe working environment and gives us clean uniforms, good food, high-level training, awesome benefits and everyone here has the same goal of giving our guests the best experience that they will never forget.

Inside the bat cave, located in the front features support area, is where you’ll find the water-emitting devices. Workers clean and repair all of them in-house. The devices include three shooters of different sizes that push water straight into the air at varying heights. The mini shooter (798 total) goes 100 feet up, the super shooter (192 total) goes 240 feet up and the extreme shooter (16 total) goes 460 feet up. The oarsmen (at top of photo column) spray water—this is where the “dancing fountains” come into play. There are 208 in the lake and 13 spares.

for a night of atmospheric rock and New Wave nostalgia as The Psychedelic Furs takes the stage at House of Blues, with special guests The Mission UK. This double bill promises an evening of moody anthems and cinematic soundscapes that defined a generation.

Fronted by Richard Butler’s distinctive raspy vocals and driven by his brother Tim’s hypnotic bass work, The Psychedelic Furs emerged from London’s post-punk scene in 1977. Named after The Velvet Underground track “Venus in Furs” and drawing inspiration from David Bowie and Roxy Music, the band created a unique sound that laced punk’s grit with art-rock grandeur and swooning melancholy. It hit that elusive sweet spot: poetic but tough, theatrical yet raw. If, in your youth, you wandered through a rainy city night with “Love My Way” playing on your Walkman with a vague sense of longing you couldn’t name, this show is for you.

The band became MTV darlings with its visually striking videos and unforgettable hooks. Songs like “Heaven” and “The Ghost in You” became staples of college radio and the soundtrack to countless

coming-of-age moments. You probably still remember the first time you heard those opening chords of “Pretty in Pink,” that

The Psychedelic Furs brings the ‘80s feels to the Strip

instantly recognizable guitar line that seemed to capture something indefinable about longing and possibility, becoming the anthem that launched a million teenage dreams and mixtapes. As the title track for the John Hughes-written film, it cemented the band’s place in the cultural zeitgeist of the 1980s teen movie era.

What makes the Furs special isn’t just the catalog of hits. Decades on, the band has remained vibrant and vital, and its 2020 album, Made of Rain, proved it’s not just coasting on nostalgia. The album charted internationally and earned critical acclaim as one of the Furs’ strongest works ever.

The current lineup—featuring Rich Good on guitar, Amanda Kramer on keys and Zachary Alford on drums—delivers the hits with both precision and passion. Butler’s voice has only grown more compelling with time, carrying the weight of experience while retaining that distinctive edge that made him an icon. The band treats its classic material with deep respect while injecting fresh energy into every performance, proving that great songs never truly age—they just get better with time.

7 p.m. July 19, starting at $43 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

Live, The Psychedelic Furs is simply electric. The band has headlined Glastonbury, commanded the Hollywood Bowl and owned stages from London’s Royal Albert Hall to Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. What you’ll witness at House of Blues is a master class in timeless rock ’n’ roll artistry.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering

The Psychedelic Furs’ music for the first time, this show offers something special: the chance to experience songs that helped define alternative rock and usher in New Wave, performed by the artists who shaped the genre. This is your chance to be in a room where every lyric is sung back by everyone around you, where every song unlocks a version of you from long ago.

Ah, to be young again.

Neon Museum collaboration celebrates the vivid history of Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas

The Grand Gallery inside Las Vegas City Hall has hosted many art exhibits and more than a few previews and opening nights. Few have been as emblematic of Las Vegas as a cultural crossroads where artistic excellence and performance must balance with box office success as Stories from Backstage: Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas

A collaboration with Neon Museum, the limited-time exhibition (which ends July 17) delves deep into the evolution of athlete into artist, characters into costume concepts and fantasy into functional footwear.

“Whether you have seen a Cirque du Soleil show or not, this is relevant to you,” said Neon Museum

executive director Aaron Berger during the preview’s keynote speech earlier this year, where glow-getting museum members gathered along with VIPs such as Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and Mike Newquist, Cirque du Soleil’s president of resident and affiliate shows.

Berger recognized chief curator and Neon Museum deputy director Sarah Hulme for coordinating the effort. “The Cirque du Soleil team worked tremendously hard with her team to bring forth the costume designers, the dressers, the stories, the oral histories,” he said before calling for a round of applause.

Every show in Cirque’s current Strip portfolio is represented at Stories, which runs through mid-July.

Iconic costuming such as the Red Bird from Mystère and Moonhead mask from “O” are featured. Makeup designs for Michael Jackson ONE are demonstrated and skin-matching swatches for bodysuits are beautifully displayed.

There are also instructions on how to juggle a person as featured in the acrobatic Icarian Games from Mad Apple, insights into what it’s like for athletes to transition from Olympic podium to performance, and a moving tribute to Dominique Lemieux, the accomplished costume designer who passed away last year.

The correlations between attention-grabbing neon and audience-dazzling costuming, or detailed resort interiors with Cirque stage productions, are made emphatically clear in the Grand Gallery exhibits.

“Everybody in the city that comes to City Hall on business has an opportunity to observe this extraordinary exhibit,” said Berkley after Newquist expressed his gratitude to the assembled guests. “Cirque is so much a part of Las Vegas and our history, and it’s absolutely breathtaking.”

She remarked how she’s seen every single production, and every

single time she returns she sees something different. Stories something different about Cirque du Soleil that people who may have only seen one or two shows can relate to. Audiences may see the athleticism, but may not be cognizant of the path of the podium-to-performance pipeline. They may be drawn into fantasy by fantastic characters but unaware of the expertise behind the processes of their creation.

Stories from Backstage: Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas lighten the intentional visitor along with passersby who happen upon the exhibition and are drawn in by the purposeful pageantry, elaborate displays and elaborative insights. It’s the right exhibition in the right place at the right time.
