A top English learning program, reaching any learner anywhere.
Since 1974, Global Launch has provided learners with rich in-person, online and blended programs to foster language learning from anywhere in the world. All Global Launch educators have at least a master’s degree and have taught English throughout the globe, providing Global Launch students with the unique care and attention they need to succeed.
We expand ASU degree access to international students who need academic skills or English language proficiency.
In our English language program, both on campus and online, and our Pathways program, Global Launch teaches the skills necessary to achieve success at the university level. In fact, students who study English at Global Launch earn a higher GPA than other first-time ASU international students.
We improve ASU instruction through training of international teaching assistants.
The ITA program (International Teaching Assistants) serves Arizona State University (ASU) academic departments that employ international students as teaching assistants, and ASU international graduate students who want to become teaching assistants. The program provides testing services, teacher training, and language support services.
We are transforming how English is taught around the world. Global Launch’s Teach English Now! certification program provides 150-hours of instruction following our cutting-edge curriculum which is innovative and practical, helping tens of thousands enter the teaching profession or refresh their skills. We also train teachers globally through the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of State. We are developing faculty at international institutions to teach their subjects in English.
We develop a highly qualified workforce through industryspecific language training.
Global Launch provides customized workforce development at scale in face-toface, online or blended models. Current industries include transportation, aviation, semiconductor, healthcare and journalism.

Excellence in English Language Teaching
In the past year, Global Launch has made significant efforts to amplify English language education and professional development. We received the Taiwan Partnership Incentive Grant, enabling a collaborative research project with National Sun Yat-sen University. Our educators presented at prestigious conferences like American Association forApplied Linguistics (AAAL) and TESOL, shared groundbreaking research and explored innovative teaching methods. We advanced Virtual Reality (VR) research, launched hybrid training programs for educators in Turkey, Myanmar, and Southeast Asia and secured the ASU ChatGPT Enterprise award to streamline grant writing. Collaborations with the U.S. Department of State further extended our global impact.

Global Teacher Training Initiatives
Taiwan Partner Initiative Grant Grants and Research
Global Launch was awarded the Taiwan Partnership Incentive Grant. Through this grant, Global Launch will partner with National Sun Yatsen University (NSYSU) to conduct an action research project with the goals of enhancing their existing English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) professional development program and further building the
university’s capacity to fulfill the vision of Taiwan’s Bilingual 2030 policy. During the fall semester of 2024, Global Launch educators Alissa Nostas and Vincent Lauter, along with colleagues from NSYSU, will conduct a detailed online and in-person needs analysis to evaluate NSYSU’s regional EMI professional development program. Based on the
results of the needs analysis, Global Launch and NSYSU will work together to develop and implement customized program interventions. Global Launch educators will also collaborate with NSYSU faculty and administrators to write and publish a joint paper, discussing the results of the action research project.
“The strategies I learned, including studentcentered teaching, active learning, ICQ, CCQ, pair sharing, and snowball discussion, have been transformative for my EMI skills and attitude. Your team's expertise and dedication created a supportive and engaging environment that has benefited my professional development.”

“Just Find Another Doctor”: A Reflexive Thematic Analysis of Autism Parents Facebook Group
“
AAAL is a great opportunity to engage with academia as an ASU student and scholar. I presented my dissertation on multilingualism and Autism last year, and this year, I presented a thematic analysis of an Autism parent support group. It was wonderful to meet other linguists who have similar interests in Autism. Most importantly, some of my audience were parents/caregivers who asked meaningful questions and shared valuable experiences!”

Learning language with AI, virtual reality
Emilia Gracia leads a virtual reality lab for ASU Global Launch students to explore English
Gracia recently conducted groundbreaking VR research that has the potential to revolutionize language education and empower international students. Her research focuses on the innovative use of virtual reality in teaching secondlanguage pragmatics. Her motivation behind this research was multifaceted. She observed that international students at ASU Global Launch often grapple with selfconsciousness when it comes to speaking with domestic students in culturally and linguistically appropriate ways. These students need a safe space to practice English and refine their spoken English skills without the fear of negative social consequences.
Gracia’s solution was to leverage the immersive capabilities of VR in a virtual reality lab. This approach allows them to experience the intricacies of social interactions integral to life at an American university like ASU.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to conduct my dissertation research by hosting VR lab sessions for our students to learn second-language pragmatics in an immersive environment, and I am optimistic about (ASU) Global Launch integrating this technology into our classes in the future and at scale.”

English Education for All
Global Launch’s educational outreach extends beyond the classroom to include a variety of educational experiences for individuals across the globe. Through demo English lessons, webinars, presentations, and more, over 2,525 had access to free and open learning opportunities.
Global Teacher Training Initiatives
Quick Launch for Teachers
Quick Launch group English and faculty training programming provided hybrid course delivery to faculty in Turkey and Myanmar. Both higher education and K-12 educators came together in 3 hours of synchronous classes each
week. Global Launch continued to work with SEV, Health and Education Foundation in Turkey, while also expanding this offering to DEK, Darüşşafaka School in Turkey, and to Mon National College, in Myanmar. Teacher
training courses guided participants through principles in integrated English and content instruction. Participants refined their English skills and built confidence in using English with colleagues and in their own English-medium classes.
ASU-ChatGPT Enterprise award
Global Launch was awarded the ASU ChatGPT Enterprise award. Global Launch is developing a custom GPT to assist in writing proposals for grants that fund program and course development projects related to English language education and professional development for international teachers. While Global Launch is often recognized for its superior quality of grant proposals, the
writing and revision of proposals is a time-consuming process. The project and GPT created will save time and serve as a model for other departments in the university to assist in their grant writing processes. Additionally, the project will increase impact by building the capacity of international educators and students who would benefit from the grants awarded.
ASEAN Teacher Training Program
The three-week Teaching Media and Information Literacy for EAP Exchange was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, administered by FHI 360, and hosted by Global Launch during October of 2023. 25 professors and administrators from eight different Southeast Asian nations participated in the program and had the opportunity to attend workshops on developing their students’ media and information literacy, observe classes at ASU and at a local high school and community college, visit on-campus sites like Dreamscape Learn, and participate in cultural activities, including a tour of Phoenix and the Grand Canyon. The impact of the program has been far-reaching with program participants providing workshops and conferences, as well as impacting educational policy, for example, at the national level in Vietnam.

The courses included weekly live office hours and self-study learning modules, requiring participants to critically analyze and apply the concepts they learned.
ASU Summer Experience
Global Launch hosted the third ASU Summer ExperienceSustainable and Innovative Solutions, annual program with a final competition for student entrepreneurs from ASU’s global partner universities. Five finalist teams presented their projects on the final day of the program, competing for a $5,000 grand prize to advance their research. The winning project, by María Alejandra Mendoza Camberos
from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) in Mexico, focuses on creating sustainable, protein-rich feed for livestock from industrialized mango waste. Mendoza Camberos, who started the project during the pandemic, aims to reduce pollution and expenses for companies while rethinking how the world views industrial food by-products, driven by her personal connection to mangoes.

Launch of English for the Semiconductor Industry
Designed by ASU’s Global Launch team, the course covers seven key areas, including semiconductor design, manufacturing and safety. Global Launch assembled subject matter experts, English language teachers and an instructional designer to create a comprehensive curriculum. This initiative is part of a broader effort to bolster North America’s
competitiveness in this high-tech sector. The course, a product of a 2022 memorandum of understanding between ASU and the Mexican Embassy, aims to increase the specialized workforce needed for the semiconductor industry. As of June 2024, this course has been accessed by over 10,000 students in Mexico.
Tomorrow’s Leaders
In partnership with FHI 360, in a program funded by a U.S. Department of State grant, Global Launch was the exclusive provider of assessment of English language proficiency for thousands of students in the MENA region to apply for prestigious scholarships to higher education institutions. In
addition, Global Launch provided an eight-week online English language and academic skills readiness program for 17 Tomorrow’s Leaders students, from 8 countries, across the MENA region. The program consisted of two advanced-level courses, with daily live-stream class meetings, collaborative
tasks and cultural activities. Students refined their English and academic skills in preparation for American university degree programs and classes. The program will continue for the academic year 2024-2025.
