JENSEN HUANG: THE RELENTLESS VISIONARY BEHIND NVIDIA’S AI EMPIRE

From humble beginnings to reshaping the future of computing, NVIDIA’s co-founder and CEO is leading the charge into the age of artificial intelligence.

In the frenzied engine room of global innovation that is Silicon Valley, few names resonate with such intensity as Jensen Huang. Charismatic, sharp-witted, and forever clad in his signature black leather jacket, the co-founder and CEO of NVIDIA is not merely the face of the world’s most valuable chipmaker — he is the visionary force behind the AI revolution. From transforming video gaming graphics into one of the most powerful infrastructures for artificial intelligence, to reshaping everything from healthcare to robotics and autonomous vehicles, Huang has steered NVIDIA from a three-man startup in a Denny’s diner to a $3.3 trillion titan. But the journey of the man himself is just as remarkable as the technology he pioneers.

From Cleaning Toilets to Building Empires

Born in 1963 in Tainan, Taiwan, Jen-Hsun “Jensen” Huang’s life took an early detour when his family sent him to live in the United States. Due to a misunderstanding, he ended up at a Kentucky reform school, scrubbing toilets and fighting off bullies — an experience he later credited with building resilience and independence.

After attending Oregon State University and later Stanford, Huang entered the tech world through stints at LSI Logic and AMD. But it was in 1993, at just 30 years old, that he co-founded NVIDIA alongside Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem.

With only $600 between them, the trio met regularly at a local Denny’s, scribbling ideas on napkins and dreaming of what computing could become. Initially, NVIDIA focused on graphics processing units (GPUs) for gaming — a burgeoning market in the mid-90s. But Huang, ever the futurist, saw something no one else did: the immense parallel processing power of GPUs could do far more than render video games. It could power artificial intelligence.

The GPU That Ate the World

Under Huang’s leadership, NVIDIA began to pivot. The launch of CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) in 2006 enabled developers to use NVIDIA’s GPUs for general-purpose computing, unlocking a new frontier.

What followed was a quiet revolution: researchers realised that GPUs could train AI models exponentially faster than traditional CPUs. By the mid-2010s, NVIDIA chips were powering breakthroughs in everything from self-driving cars to medical imaging. Fast forward to 2024, and NVIDIA had become the undisputed cornerstone of the AI economy.

Its high-performance chips fuel data centres, scientific research, and generative AI models like OpenAI’s GPT and Google’s Gemini. The company’s latest suite of Blackwell Ultra and Vera Rubin chips, unveiled at the 2025 GPU Technology Conference (GTC), promises even more performance with lower energy consumption — a response to growing scrutiny over the environmental impact of large-scale AI training.

While he supports efforts to protect national security, Huang advocates for balanced policies that recognise the importance of global collaboration in advancing science and technology. “AI has no borders. The benefits — and the risks — are global,” he said.

But Huang isn’t just building faster chips. He’s building platforms. At GTC, he announced the launch of NVIDIA Cosmos, a simulation platform capable of creating infinite digital scenarios for training AI — everything from traffic flows for autonomous vehicles to crisis management for emergency services. He also introduced Isaac GR00T N1, an open-source model designed to train humanoid robots with physical AI, turning science fiction into near-future reality.

Leadership in the Age of AI

What sets Huang apart is not only his technical brilliance but his clarity of vision. In an age of hype, he is a rare realist who articulates complex ideas without hyperbole. “AI is not magic. It’s mathematics,” he often reminds audiences. Yet he is also candid about its implications. “You’re not going to lose your job to AI. You’re going to lose it to someone using AI,” he warned recently at the Milken Institute Global Conference, stressing the need for continuous learning. True to his word, Huang uses AI tools like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Pro daily as personal tutors. “I have my own AI tutors. I’m learning about quantum mechanics, the history of Europe, the causes of World War I,” he told a packed room. His message is clear: in the AI era, curiosity and adaptability are non-negotiable. He’s equally passionate about cultivating talent. Internally, NVIDIA is known for its deep culture of autonomy, speed, and clarity. “The more information people have, the better decisions they make,” Huang said in a 2024 interview. “My job is to create the environment where great people do their life’s work.”

Balancing Innovation with Global Reality

Despite its success, NVIDIA has found itself caught in the crosshairs of global politics. Huang has been vocal about the challenges posed by U.S. export restrictions on advanced chips to China — a key market for the company. He likened the lost opportunity to “an entire Boeing” — not just a plane, but a full-scale company.

Giving Back

Huang’s journey has not only changed technology but also inspired a new generation of leaders. In recent years, he has made generous philanthropic contributions, including $30 million to Stanford University and $50 million to Oregon State University to support supercomputing and engineering research. “I was a kid with no money, no connections, and barely any English,” he said. “That’s why I believe deeply in education — it changed my life.”

A Reluctant Rock Star

Despite his iconic status in tech circles — he is now routinely greeted with standing ovations and described as the “Steve Jobs of AI” — Huang remains refreshingly grounded. He often deflects praise to his team, credits his success to grit and luck, and prefers to talk about what’s next rather than what’s been achieved. What lies ahead for NVIDIA and for Huang? Likely a deeper entrenchment in the very fabric of society — healthcare diagnostics, smart cities, digital twins, and yes, the metaverse. If Huang has his way, the future will not only be intelligent but beautifully engineered, inclusive, and astonishingly fast. From scrubbing toilets in Kentucky to reshaping the very infrastructure of the 21st century, Jensen Huang’s story is one of persistence, purpose, and boundless ambition. As the world accelerates into the AI era, he stands not just at the forefront — but as its architect. 23 MAY/JUNE 2025

The Emirati Entrepreneur Redefining Business Success Across Healthcare, Education, and Investment

Faisal bin Juma Belhoul is not only one of the UAE’s most influential business leaders but also a trailblazer whose legacy spans across multiple sectors. With more than 25 years of experience in private markets, his roles have included Vice Chairman of Dubai Chambers and Chairman of J&F Holdings. He also serves as Vice Chairman and Senior Adviser of Speedinvest Growth Markets Fintech Fund, supporting high-growth ventures across the region. As founder and former Executive Chairman of Ithmar Capital and Amanat Holdings PJSC, Faisal has pioneered private equity investments in healthcare, education, and beyond—spearheading landmark deals, including the listing of Al Noor Hospitals on the London Stock Exchange. Now, as a judge on Shark Tank Dubai, he continues to shape the future of entrepreneurship. In this exclusive interview, he shares candid reflections on his journey, the principles that guide his investment philosophy, and the legacy he hopes to leave behind.

How did your journey in entrepreneurship begin? What initially sparked your interest in business?

After returning from my studies in the US, I joined the family business as the eldest son—it felt like the right thing to do. I was fortunate that my father welcomed me into the fold and gave me real responsibility from day one. That responsibility quickly became a catalyst. As I looked at how best to grow the business, I realised the key was in attracting top-tier talent. The challenge, however, was that senior professionals were reluctant to join a family business unless there was real career progression or partnership potential—something not typical in such setups. That’s when I saw the need to bridge both worlds. I established Ithmar Capital as an independent investment platform that could attract top talent and, in turn, support the family business. My entrepreneurial journey really started with solving that problem—thinking outside the box to create a solution that didn’t exist yet. And from there, I never looked back.

You’ve been at the forefront of ventures that align closely with the UAE’s national goals. How do you see your work contributing to the country’s broader vision?

I always say—it’s better to swim with the tide than against it. Being part of the UAE and Dubai’s dynamic economy has been exactly that: a tide of opportunity. I wouldn’t say I’ve contributed to the UAE’s growth as much as the UAE has enabled mine. Working within a growing, visionary market provides room for innovation, forgiveness for failure, and rewards for resilience. My focus has been in non-oil sectors like healthcare, education, real estate, and technology—all critical pillars in the UAE’s diversification strategy.

And now you’re on Shark Tank Dubai. What drew you to the show? Honestly, it came completely out of the blue. I never sought out TV. But once I reflected on it, I saw the opportunity to give back. To me, Shark Tank is a CSR platform—it’s about sharing knowledge, offering hope, and educating the next generation of entrepreneurs in an entertaining way. What’s been incredibly fulfilling is hearing from kids—friends of my daughter or even young strangers—saying I’ve inspired them. If a show like this becomes their go-to instead of mindless content, then we’ve done something meaningful.

What do you look for in a startup pitch?

The show isn’t primarily about finding the best deals—it’s about supporting the ecosystem. That said, I always look for clarity of vision, problem-solving capability, and alignment with market needs. A great idea is one thing; the ability to execute it and build something sustainable is another.

Healthcare and education have been at the core of your investment story. What sparked your interest in those sectors?

I grew up surrounded by healthcare—my father was Director General of Dubai’s Department of Health and a practicing physician. Our family business also had ventures in both healthcare and education, so I gained early exposure and built a strong network. When I launched Ithmar Capital, I naturally gravitated towards those sectors. Our investment in Al Noor Hospitals, which we eventually listed on the London Stock Exchange, was a proud moment—proof that regional businesses can become global players.

Through Ithmar Capital, how did you approach selecting businesses with long-term potential?

It starts with having a clearly defined strategy. At Ithmar, we focused on growth-stage companies where we could take significant stakes and help founders scale. It was never about early-stage ideas—it was about proven models with untapped potential. Once we found alignment between our vision and the founder’s, we structured deals that created value for everyone involved.

Looking ahead, what trends do you think will shape the next era of entrepreneurship in the UAE?

The UAE government has been incredibly clear in its direction— moving towards a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. Key themes like technology, AI, sustainability, and clean energy are being prioritised, and that informs where we focus our efforts. As always, swimming with the tide makes all the difference.

You wear many hats—entrepreneur, investor, adviser, now TV personality. How do you manage it all?

Prioritisation is key. I focus on what’s most impactful—what sits in the top right of that “important vs. urgent” matrix. And I delegate where possible. It’s an art, really, and something I continue to refine. When I look at leaders like His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, who carries enormous responsibility with grace, I’m reminded that effective systems, prioritisation, and trust in your team are essential.

And how do you embed sustainability and social responsibility into your work?

For me, CSR isn’t a department—it’s a mindset. It should be embedded in everything you do. We talk about “impactful investment”—investments that not only generate financial returns but also create positive societal outcomes. Whether it’s job creation, emissions reduction, or education, the idea is to make a difference beyond the bottom line.

On a personal note—what inspires you to keep building?

Legacy. I want to leave something behind that lasts longer than me. Financial success is important for sustainability, but it’s always been a byproduct. What drives me is the opportunity to contribute to stories that uplift communities. I don’t need to be the only protagonist—I just want to be a meaningful part of the narrative.

Lastly, for young entrepreneurs here in the UAE—what’s your best piece of advice?

Embrace failure. You’ll miss a few free kicks, as I like to say, but that’s part of the game. The only real failure is when you give up. If you keep taking shots, eventually you’ll score—and maybe even become the best in the world. So don’t fear the misses. Keep going.

FROM TRAUMA TO TRANSFORMATION

How a Near-Death Crash Led Dr Espen Wold-Jensen to Redefine Health, Healing, and Human Potential

When Dr Espen Wold-Jensen woke up in a hospital bed after a devastating motorcycle accident, modern medicine couldn’t save him. It was the moment his real education began.

Forced to confront the limits of conventional treatment, he turned to breathwork, nutrition, and mindset—not only to survive, but to thrive. Today, his approach helps people reclaim their health by tapping into the body’s innate intelligence.

In this interview, Dr Espen shares the lessons that rewired his life—and the practical tools anyone can use to navigate stress, reverse disease, and stay sharp in an overstimulated world.

The Crash That Changed His Life

Take us back to the accident. What happened, and how did it reshape your understanding of health?

In 2006, I was hit while riding my motorcycle and shattered both legs. The standard medical protocol—surgeries, antibiotics, bed rest—did more harm than good. My weight dropped by 15 kilos, and a severe MRSA infection left doctors warning I might not survive. That’s when it hit me: healing couldn’t be outsourced.

I detoxed, practised breathwork, cleaned up my nutrition, and within three and a half weeks, I recovered fully. That experience rewired how I view health: it starts from within—not from a prescription.

The Breath: Your Built-In Stress Reset

You teach breathwork to your clients. Why is it so powerful?

Because it’s the fastest way to shift your biology. Stress puts your body into fight-or-flight mode— cortisol spikes, thinking narrows, creativity vanishes. And most people breathe shallowly, which makes it worse.

The fix? Nasal, diaphragmatic breathing.

Stuck in traffic? Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6.

Between meetings? Take five deep belly breaths.

It’s simple. Even Navy SEALs use this to stay sharp under pressure. Breathwork puts your nervous system into “rest and repair” mode—where healing and clear thinking happen.

Food, Fasting, and the Myth of ‘More’ You fast for days. Isn’t that extreme?

Not at all. Our bodies evolved to handle cycles of feast and fast. The real extreme is constant eating. When you stop feeding your body every few hours, it switches from burning sugar to burning fat—a state called ketosis.

That shift clears brain fog, boosts energy, and slows ageing.

My biological age is 11 years younger than my actual age.

Fasting isn’t starvation—it’s restoration.

The Hidden Link Between Emotion and Disease

Can emotional stress really trigger physical illness? Absolutely. Chronic stress underpins nearly every major disease—heart conditions, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune issues.

One patient came to me with low testosterone. His doctors prescribed hormones, but the real issue was a severe zinc deficiency and gut inflammation.

Once we fixed that, his levels normalised—no meds required.

The missing piece? Emotional trauma. Healing isn’t just about supplements; it’s about addressing the unresolved pain that taxes your system.

Reframing Trauma: From Victim to Victor

What’s your approach for helping people process past pain?

Pain is part of life. Suffering is a choice.

When clients face a setback—divorce, diagnosis, burnout—I ask:

What did this teach you?

How did it shape your strength?

Even a diagnosis can become a turning point, not a life sentence. If you shift the story, you shift the outcome.

The Body Wants to Heal—Let It

“Your body isn’t built to stay sick. It’s built to repair. Give it the right tools.”

Try This Today:

Breathe: Five nasal belly breaths between tasks.

Hydrate: Swap sugary drinks for water.

Pause: Ask yourself, Am I reacting from stress or responding with clarity?

Dr Espen’s story is a reminder that the most powerful form of healthcare isn’t a pill—it’s selfawareness.

Whether you’re battling a diagnosis or the daily grind, the path to healing starts the same way: breathe, listen, and trust your body’s intelligence.

RONAN DIEGO: TURNING PAIN INTO POWER

How one man transformed a life of adversity into a mission to empower others through the fundamentals of health and resilience.

Amid the relentless pursuit of instant success and fleeting solutions, Ronan Diego’s journey stands as a testament to the raw, unfiltered power of resilience. His transformation from a bullied child in Brazil to a sought-after health mentor wasn’t built on gimmicks or fleeting motivation but on the unwavering belief that adversity is the ultimate teacher. Through personal trials, deep introspection, and an unrelenting pursuit of inner and outer strength, Ronan has crafted a philosophy that challenges conventional wisdom and inspires those on their own journey to health and self-discovery.

A Childhood Defined by Struggle

Growing up in Brazil, Ronan was always the smallest, frailest kid in the room. Bullies took note, and he became an easy target. “I made being weak look good,” he recalls with wry humour. But rather than allowing his suffering to define him, he saw it as a signal—a call to action. “Suffering was my greatest teacher,” he explains. “Every major transformation in my life—whether in health, relationships, or my career—has been triggered by pain.”

Determined to rewrite his story, Ronan found solace in strength training. Like many, he was initially driven by the superficial desire to build muscle and gain respect. But as his body changed, he realised the transformation he sought wasn’t just external. “I looked the part, but something was still missing,” he admits. “I thought looking strong would make me feel strong. But real strength is built from the inside out.”

The Illusion of External Success

With his physical transformation came validation from strangers. Compliments on his physique flooded in, but they rang hollow. “I had built the body I once dreamed of, but I still felt empty,” he says. “That was when I realised external validation is fleeting. If your self-worth is tied to your achievements, the moment they fade, so does your confidence.”Ronan dove deep into the philosophy of resilience, studying not just physical training but the psychology of self-worth. He found inspiration in figures like Jim Carrey, who famously stated, “I wish everyone could get rich and famous so they could see that it’s not the answer.” This sentiment resonated deeply. Success, Ronan realised, wasn’t about what you accumulate but about the foundation you build within.

A Family Crisis That Changed Everything

In 2019, Ronan’s philosophy was put to the ultimate test. His father was diagnosed with pseudo-dementia—a condition driven by chronic inflammation and poor lifestyle choices. For three months, his father remained unresponsive. When he finally spoke, his words were simple yet heartbreaking: “Ronan, I want to change, but I don’t even know where to start.” Armed with a decade of knowledge in health and fitness, Ronan stepped in.

He didn’t introduce complex medical interventions or radical changes. Instead, he focused on what he calls the “Basics, Well Done” approach—hydration, movement, fasting, and nutrition. The results were staggering. Within four months, his father shed 14 kilos, regained his mobility, and went from barely walking to cycling and swimming. “It was a miracle, but it was a miracle rooted in science,” Ronan says. “Most people look for the secret formula, but the truth is, the basics work if you commit to them.”

The Science of Simplicity

Ronan’s approach to health isn’t about trends or industry buzzwords. Instead, it aligns with cutting-edge research from institutions like Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, which highlights that simple lifestyle interventions—proper hydration, regular movement, and mindful eating—can drastically reduce the risk of chronic disease. One of Ronan’s most remarkable success stories is Sandra, a woman diagnosed with fatty liver disease. Faced with grim warnings from her doctors, she turned to Ronan for guidance. Again, the solution wasn’t complicated: drink more water, move daily, and practice intermittent fasting. The results? A complete reversal of her condition, reduced dependency on medication, and a newfound lease on life.

Redefining Strength

For years, Ronan’s fuel was proving people wrong. But as his journey evolved, so did his motivation. “I spent years trying to prove myself through achievements, but the truth is, real confidence comes when you stop seeking approval,” he shares. “True success is about building a foundation so strong that no external loss can shake you.” Today, Ronan dedicates his time to helping others reclaim their health and self-worth. He works with clients from all walks of life, teaching them that transformation isn’t about extreme measures but about consistency in the basics. “Start small,” he advises. “Walk more. Drink water. Get quality sleep. Your body doesn’t need a biohacking manual. It just needs care.”

Lessons from the Journey

Ronan Diego’s story is not one of overnight success but of relentless commitment to growth. His life serves as proof that pain, when channelled correctly, can be the catalyst for profound transformation. “Suffering isn’t the enemy,” he insists. “It’s the teacher. Every challenge holds a lesson, and every setback is a setup for a breakthrough.”

In an age of quick fixes, Ronan’s journey reminds us that true strength is built on the fundamentals. His message is simple yet powerful: master the basics, embrace the struggle, and let resilience lead the way. For those seeking real transformation, the secret isn’t found in the latest health trend—it’s in the small, daily habits that build an unshakable foundation for life.

BREAKING BOUNDARIES: THE

JOURNEY

Tash Hatherall, the founder and CEO of TishTash Communications, has transformed her entrepreneurial leap into one of the most recognised independent marketing and PR agencies in the Middle East.

With a background in psychology and marketing, she blends strategic insight with a deep understanding of human behaviour, shaping her agency’s success over the past decade.

In this exclusive interview, Hatherall shares her unexpected journey into entrepreneurship, the challenges she has faced, and her vision for the future of communications.

An Accidental Entrepreneur

“I never intended to start a traditional business,” Hatherall reflects. Despite showing entrepreneurial tendencies from an early age, she originally envisioned a more flexible career as a ‘solopreneur.’

However, her plans quickly evolved when she founded TishTash Communications in 2012.

Today, the agency is a powerhouse in the region, boasting over 70 team members and offices in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and the UK. “It may not have been the plan, but I also believe that everything happens for a reason,” she says.

Navigating Challenges and Growth

Running an agency comes with inevitable challenges, and for Hatherall, the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the biggest tests. “We lost 80% of our revenue in the first two weeks,” she recalls.

Leading her team through uncertainty required resilience, transparency, and innovation. “Even though I was scared, I focused on how I would want to be treated—and did the same for my team.”

Her strategic approach enabled TishTash to not only survive but thrive in a post-pandemic market.

Understanding People: The Key to Effective Marketing

With a PhD in psychology and marketing, Hatherall believes that understanding people is at the core of great communication.

“People and understanding them is critical to effective marketing and communications,” she notes. This philosophy has shaped her leadership style and business decisions, helping her foster an inclusive and dynamic work culture at TishTash.

Breaking Barriers in Business

Despite being a woman in a competitive industry, Hatherall shares that she has always felt empowered and supported—especially by men. However, she acknowledges that challenges remain within the industry.

“Women actually need to do better in the way they treat other women if we want to be truly empowered,” she says.

Staying true to her values has been key: “I’ve always been clear not to let challenges change who I am as a person or how I treat my team.”

Balancing Business and Creativity

Beyond PR and communications, Hatherall is a passionate writer and is working on her first novel about the media industry in the Middle East.

“It’s been on my life bucket list for years,” she laughs, admitting that running a business has often taken priority.

Still, she believes in making time for creative pursuits—whether writing or painting—as they bring balance and joy.”

The Future of PR and Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

For those entering the competitive world of PR and communications, Hatherall’s advice is simple:

“You need to have real passion for what you do. If you don’t love your industry, you’ll struggle to keep going when things get tough.”

She also emphasises the importance of staying focused on personal growth: “Always concentrate on your own path rather than getting distracted by what others are doing.”

As TishTash continues to grow, Hatherall remains committed to pushing boundaries, nurturing creativity, and maintaining a strong ethical foundation in business.

Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience, adaptability, and a deep passion for people and communication.

Design and Aerodynamics

The Artura looks every bit the futuristic machine it claims to be. A low, sculpted nose, dramatic side intakes, and a body that’s all curves and aggression—it’s designed not just to turn heads, but to slice through air with purpose. Everything from its door mirrors to its underfloor is engineered for aerodynamic efficiency. And while the design is unmistakably McLaren, the Artura’s proportions—thanks to a new hybrid powertrain—are tighter, more focused, and incredibly balanced. The cabin is pushed forward slightly, giving the driver a clear view of the road and an even clearer reminder that this is a car built for the experience behind the wheel.

Hybrid Powertrain

This is where things get really interesting. Underneath the sleek carbon-fibre skin is a brand-new 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine paired with an electric motor. Together, they produce a mighty 690 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. That means 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph. But the real trick is the torque delivery. The electric motor fills in the gaps while the turbos spool up, meaning there’s virtually no lag. It’s responsive in a way internal combustion alone can’t match—and offers up to 21 miles of whisper-quiet, all-electric range for when you want to creep out of your neighbourhood at dawn without waking the neighbours (or your conscience).

Chassis and Handling

The Artura is built on McLaren’s brand-new Carbon Lightweight Architecture, which is as stiff as it is light. Weight is always the enemy in hybrids, but McLaren has done a masterful job of hiding the extra bulk of batteries with a clever layout and even cleverer handling dynamics. An electronic differential—McLaren’s first—brings laser-sharp cornering and stability, especially when pushing the limits. The rear suspension setup is all new too, with a multi-link system that helps put down the power more effectively while keeping the ride impressively civilised when dialled back.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Artura is an exercise in minimalism—with a twist. It’s stripped down for the driver’s benefit, not for the sake of austerity. The digital dash moves with the steering column so your sightlines are always perfect, while a vertically oriented touchscreen keeps infotainment modern but non-intrusive. McLaren thankfully keeps physical controls where it counts, and the materials are as you’d expect: leather, Alcantara, and exposed carbon fibre. Everything feels built for both comfort and focus, whether you’re driving to a country house weekend or shaving tenths off lap times.

Driving Experience

Put simply: it’s addictive. The hybrid setup makes the Artura feel surgically precise. You get the smoothness of electric propulsion at low speeds, then the explosive drama of the V6 when you step on it. The transition is seamless, and the result is a driving experience that feels intuitive, confident, and, most importantly, fun. With Comfort, Sport, and Track modes to toggle through, the car adapts to wherever you take it—be that urban errands or full-throttle canyon runs. It’s a car that makes the most of both power and peace. The McLaren Artura doesn’t shout about being a hybrid—it doesn’t need to. It’s too busy proving that sustainable performance can still be raw, beautiful, and thrilling. This is a car for a new generation of drivers: ones who demand emotion from a machine, but also expect innovation under the bonnet. The Artura delivers both, with no compromise.

BLACK BADGE SPECTRE: DARKNESS, DELIVERED

Rolls-Royce’s first electric alter ego arrives— bolder, faster, and with more attitude than ever before.

Rolls-Royce doesn’t do things impulsively. When it goes electric, it’s with the grace of a gliding cathedral. When it decides to get dark? It goes full Black Badge. The Black Badge Spectre isn’t just the electric Rolls you expected—it’s the louder, faster, more defiant version you didn’t realise you needed. With this release, the marque doubles down on its daring. The Spectre was already a silent revolution. Black Badge Spectre? It’s the alter ego. The one that wears sunglasses indoors, says yes to more torque, and prefers its starlight headliner dialled down low—because subtle power is still power.

What’s New? Everything. But Make It Black.

Visually, the Black Badge Spectre gets the full treatment. The Spirit of Ecstasy is finished in glossy black chrome. So is the imposing front grille. The wheels—now with carbon-fibre barrels and 22-inch menace—look like they belong on a luxury spacecraft. And let’s not ignore the body colour options. Technically, there are over 200 paint choices. But let’s be honest, most buyers will go for the Black Badge signature: the deepest, richest black on the planet. It’s sprayed, polished, and hand-buffed over multiple hours until it looks less like paint and more like an oil-slicked void.

More Power, Same Silence

Underneath all that elegance and intensity is a powertrain that’s been… encouraged. The standard Spectre’s 577bhp has been bumped up to 650bhp. Torque? A mighty 1000Nm. That means this all-electric beast can hit 0–60mph in 4.4 seconds—which may sound modest next to hypercars, until you realise this car weighs nearly three tonnes and still does it with the effortless poise of a ghost ship. It’s not about drama. The acceleration is instant, yes—but eerily calm. There’s no whine, no fuss. Just smooth, relentless forward momentum. It’s like being pulled forward by gravity in a parallel universe, while ensconced in lambswool and silence.

The Cabin: Welcome to the Inner Circle

Inside, the usual Spectre theatre gets the Black Badge edit. Think more edge, more attitude, and fewer polite touches. The trim options lean toward carbon fibre, darker metals, and a new woven material called Technical Fibre—a complex composite panel that looks like it was grown in a luxury lab. Of course, the bespoke options remain endless. Want your initials embroidered on the headrest in thread that matches the hue of your private jet? Done. Want a dashboard inlaid with microscopic constellations or shards of meteorite? Not a problemAnd then there’s the starlight. The door linings themselves are now lit with tiny fibre-optic stars—over 4,000 of them. It’s moody, mesmerising, and completely unnecessary. Which is exactly why it’s brilliant.

Handling: Less Float, More Fangs

While the standard Spectre is all about comfort and cruise, the Black Badge version tightens the reins. The suspension’s been retuned. The throttle response is sharper. The regenerative braking has been made more aggressive for a sportier feel. It’s still a Rolls, but one that’s been to the gym and maybe got a tattoo or two while it was there. This is a car that corners flatter, pushes harder, and delivers feedback more honestly through the wheel. Will 99% of owners ever take it on a mountain pass? Probably not. But the fact that they could—with a grin on their face and no squeak from the cabin—matters deeply.

The Quiet Riot

Make no mistake: the Black Badge Spectre isn’t trying to be the Tesla Plaid or a track-day hero. That’s not the point. This is about power redefined—refined. The kind of electric luxury that doesn’t feel like a compromise. It feels like the future finally caught up to Rolls-Royce, and instead of resisting it, they invited it in, gave it a black tuxedo, and poured it a chilled glass of vintage Dom.

The Spectre was Rolls-Royce’s bold step into electrification. The Black Badge Spectre is a power stance. It’s for those who don’t just want luxury—they want presence. They want edge. They want the quiet confidence of arriving somewhere and knowing that, even without an engine roar, the room just got quieter. This is more than an electric car. It’s the new standard of defiance—rolling, gliding, glowing… in black.

ELECTRIC HYPERCARS: FULL THROTTLE INTO

THE FUTURE

Exploring how electric innovation is reshaping the meaning of speed and sustainability in hypercar design.

Electric hypercars are rewriting the rules of performance motoring—no longer defined by thunderous exhausts or petrol fumes, they’re now powered by quiet, formidable bursts of electricity. Imagine acceleration so fierce it rearranges your internal organs, yet quiet enough to hear your own racing heartbeat. This isn’t science fiction; it’s the current reality of hypercar engineering.

From Petrol to Electric: The Next Gear

Once reserved exclusively for roaring combustion engines, the hypercar class has fully embraced electric propulsion. Case in point: the Rimac Nevera. This Croatian marvel cranks out an astonishing 1,914 horsepower, sprinting from 0–60 mph in just 1.74 seconds—making conventional supercars look sluggish. Mate Rimac, CEO of Rimac Automobili, famously declared, “The Nevera proves electric hypercars aren’t just about sustainability—they’re about outright performance. This is a fundamental shift in automotive engineering.” Not to be outdone, the Lotus Evija—Britain’s contribution to the electric hypercar revolution— packs nearly 2,000 horsepower and delivers a 0–60 mph time of under three seconds. Russell Carr, Lotus Cars’ Design Director, notes, “The Evija showcases how electrification allows designers freedom to create shapes and aerodynamics previously impossible. It’s a thrilling era for automotive design.”

Sustainable, Not Sensible

These cars aren’t just fast; they’re thoughtfully fast. Electric hypercars significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional internal combustion models—even when factoring in battery production. According to the UK’s National Grid, electric vehicles produce up to 66% lower emissions over their lifetime compared to petrol cars. As sustainability becomes an essential factor for luxury consumers, hypercars must now deliver ecological responsibility alongside breakneck speed.

Innovations Shaping the Sector

What’s making electric hypercars possible are innovations that go beyond just large batteries and motors:

Advanced Battery Technology: Solid-state batteries are the next frontier, promising faster charge times, lighter weights, and substantially increased driving ranges. Automotive engineer and technology writer, James Morris, explains, “Solid-state batteries could be a real game-changer, enabling electric hypercars to reach unprecedented performance while maintaining practical range.”

Regenerative Braking: Capturing energy usually wasted during braking, regenerative braking channels this power back to the battery, increasing range and efficiency—crucial for vehicles pushing the limits of speed.

Active Aerodynamics: Adaptive aerodynamic components—movable spoilers, diffusers, and vents—help manage airflow dynamically, allowing these electric rockets to remain planted at eye-watering speeds.

Challenges on the Electric Road

However, the journey to sustainability isn’t without hurdles. Sourcing materials such as lithium and cobalt for batteries carries significant environmental and ethical implications, raising questions around responsible supply chains and recycling. Furthermore, as electric hypercars become more widespread, the demand for cleaner electricity grows, highlighting the importance of renewable energy sources for genuinely sustainable motoring.

The Future at Lightning Speed

Despite challenges, electric hypercars are accelerating towards mainstream acceptance. New players like Pininfarina’s Battista and Tesla’s second-generation Roadster are poised to push performance benchmarks even higher. Pininfarina’s Chief Product Officer, Paolo Dellacha, captures the sentiment perfectly: “We’re proving electrification doesn’t mean sacrifice. Hypercars can now deliver extraordinary performance responsibly—without compromise.” Ultimately, electric hypercars aren’t merely about speed—they symbolise an exciting new chapter, blending extreme performance with ecological awareness. They showcase that sustainability doesn’t need to be austere or boring; it can be thrilling, groundbreaking, and lightning-fast. As electric hypercars speed ahead, one thing is clear: the future of performance motoring is not only cleaner, it’s electrifying.

TIME WELL SPENT

From skeletonised masterpieces to next-gen innovations, Watches & Wonders 2025 was a vibrant celebration of craftsmanship, creativity, and the enduring allure of time.

Each spring, Geneva transforms into the global capital of horology—and this year, the city was more alive than ever. Watches and Wonders 2025 welcomed a record-breaking 55,000 visitors, reinforcing its position as the crown jewel of the luxury watch calendar. For seasoned collectors, curious newcomers, and global press alike, the event delivered not just a showcase, but a full immersion into the art, innovation, and emotion that define fine watchmaking today.

Held from 1–7 April, this year’s fair brought together 60 brands under one roof, from household names like Rolex, Cartier, and Patek Philippe to disruptive independents and exciting newcomers such as Bvlgari and a fresh cohort of boutique ateliers. But the experience went beyond technical reveals and product launches. Palexpo was transformed into a living, breathing museum of time—each booth a multi-sensory expression of a brand’s identity and legacy. From serene minimalist spaces to ornate tributes steeped in history, this was less a trade fair, more a gallery of horological storytelling.

Creatively, the momentum was undeniable. Skeleton watches—those intricate displays of a timepiece’s inner workings—once again took centre stage. These pieces, long admired for their mechanical transparency, are evolving into signature statements for collectors and engineers alike. The meticulous craftsmanship involved in creating a skeletonised dial, where even the smallest adjustment can affect the function, is a reminder that innovation is often found in restraint. Women’s watches also enjoyed a well-deserved spotlight.

Moving beyond the tired formula of “shrink it and pink it,” this year’s women-focused releases combined sculptural beauty with impressive mechanical prowess. Jewellery timepieces dazzled with gemstones, enamel, and haute joaillerie detailing—without sacrificing performance. Meanwhile, the return of smaller case sizes marked a shift in broader design language. Refined, vintage-inspired proportions were embraced by many brands, resonating with a gender-inclusive audience seeking elegance over excess.

Colour and materiality took on bold new life. Dials in shades of forest green, powder blue, cherry blossom pink, and deep burgundy signalled a fresh take on personality-driven design. Finishes ranged from sunray and frosted textures to mother-of-pearl mosaics and hammered gold, all designed to reflect and manipulate light in unexpected ways. These weren’t just timepieces— they were wearable art.

Among the year’s most talked-about releases was the Rolex Day-Date 36 “Jigsaw” dial. With its multicoloured puzzle motif, it was a playful departure from the brand’s traditional aesthetic, sparking conversation across the fair. Cartier’s revival of the Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph, first introduced in 1928, brought vintage elegance into the modern day, while Hublot’s Big Bang Integrated Tourbillon Full Carbon showcased lightweight complexity in a sleek carbon-fibre case. Grand Seiko’s SBGW314, inspired by Japan’s sakura season, impressed with its delicate pink dial and impeccable hand-finishing, and Vacheron Constantin’s new Overseas model added moonphase and retrograde functionality without losing the line’s sporty DNA.

Meanwhile, The LAB—Watches and Wonders’ dedicated innovation zone—offered a glimpse into what’s next. SUSTAINABLE LUXURY ESCAPES

ECO-FRIENDLY INDULGENCE AT SONEVA FUSHI IN THE MALDIVES AND SIX SENSES ZIGHY BAY IN OMAN OFFERS REFINED TRAVEL WITH A LIGHTER FOOTPRINT.

Luxury travel has evolved. While comfort and exclusivity remain at the heart of it, more travellers today are drawn to experiences that align with their values—places where sustainability is woven into the design, service, and operations. Two destinations setting the standard are Soneva Fushi in the Maldives and Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman. Though distinct in setting, they share a commitment to thoughtful luxury and responsible hospitality.

Soneva Fushi, Maldives

Tucked within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Soneva Fushi is the kind of place that doesn’t need to shout. There are no towering lobbies or polished marble floors. Instead, the resort is quietly confident, built almost entirely from sustainable materials and set amidst thick jungle and wide stretches of white sand. The villas—spacious, private, and barefoot elegant—are shaded by palm trees and connected by winding sand paths. Solar panels, natural ventilation, and locally sourced timber all contribute to Soneva’s low-impact footprint, but what’s more impressive is how sustainability is integrated into every element of the guest experience.

The resort’s Eco Centro waste-to-wealth facility processes 90% of its waste on-site, turning glass into beautiful tableware and composting food scraps for the resort gardens. Its Makers’ Place studio invites guests to transform recycled materials into art, while an in-house marine biologist offers guided snorkelling sessions that double as educational conversations about coral conservation.

Dining at Soneva Fushi is another highlight, with most ingredients sourced from the resort’s own organic gardens or from trusted local suppliers. The resort’s Soneva Namoona programme also supports nearby island communities with waste management, clean water initiatives, and education—elevating its environmental impact far beyond its property lines. And yet, none of this feels like a sacrifice. Sunset cruises, open-air cinemas, chocolate rooms, and wellness offerings at the Soneva Soul spa ensure that indulgence is always part of the equation. Here, luxury and sustainability are not opposing forces—they are perfectly aligned.

Six Senses Zighy Bay, Oman

A two-hour drive from Dubai, past rocky mountain passes and fishing villages, Six Senses Zighy Bay reveals itself in dramatic fashion—hidden in a bay framed by rugged cliffs and the blue expanse of the Gulf of Oman. Built in the style of an Omani village, the resort blends into the landscape with sand-hued villas, private plunge pools, and shaded terraces. The architecture, crafted using local stone and timber, is intentionally rustic—elegant without excess. This pared-back aesthetic allows the natural setting to shine.

Sustainability runs deep at Zighy Bay. The resort has its own reverse osmosis plant for drinking water and avoids single-use plastics wherever possible. Much of the produce served at the resort is grown in the on-site organic garden, which includes a mushroom hut, hydroponics farm, and even goats and chickens. Guests curious about the resort’s approach to sustainability can visit the Earth Lab, where everything from water conservation to upcycling is on display. There are also guided hikes into the surrounding mountains and curated excursions into nearby villages, offering a glimpse of traditional Omani life and culture beyond the resort walls. Wellness is a key pillar at Zighy Bay. The Six Senses Spa combines personalised treatments with locally inspired rituals—think frankincense scrubs and date-based oils. For something more adrenaline-fuelled, guests can paraglide into the resort, take a mountain bike across village trails, or dive in the Musandam Peninsula’s coral-rich waters.

Two Perspectives, One Philosophy

What sets both resorts apart isn’t just their eco-credentials, though those are impressive. It’s how they make sustainability part of the guest journey without it ever feeling like an obligation. Guests are invited to engage—or simply to enjoy—but either way, they leave knowing their stay contributed to something beyond the ordinary. At Soneva Fushi and Six Senses Zighy Bay, luxury is no longer defined by excess. Instead, it’s about care—care for the environment, for local communities, and for the experience itself. It’s an invitation to slow down, savour the natural world, and travel with intention.

AI AND THE ART OF STAYING AHEAD

How IBM Watson is helping global brands future-proof their businesses—with a dash of human ingenuity.

Once considered the stuff of science fiction, artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly become an essential player in the modern business landscape. But forget the clichés of robots taking over; the reality is far more stylish, more subtle—and certainly smarter. Leading this quietly powerful transformation is IBM Watson, the AI platform that’s turning businesses into forwardthinking trailblazers.

A Personal Touch at Scale

IBM Watson isn’t about replacing the human touch; it’s about enhancing it. Watson’s clever natural-language processing allows it to understand not only words but context and emotion. Companies like Vodafone have successfully harnessed this power to elevate their customer service experience. Watson-powered chatbots handle routine enquiries with personality and empathy, freeing up human agents to tackle more complex tasks. The result? A striking 68% jump in customer satisfaction scores, demonstrating clearly that when technology works seamlessly alongside humans, magic happens. “AI isn’t about automating out the human,” explains IBM’s AI expert, Dr John Kelly. “It’s about enhancing the human capability, helping businesses deliver experiences that are genuinely personalised and effective.”

Healthcare with a Human Heart

Watson is also proving transformative in healthcare, a sector where personalised treatment can genuinely change lives. Partnering with the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Watson analyses thousands of medical journals and patient histories in seconds—information that would take human researchers weeks or months. The AI doesn’t just crunch numbers; it provides actionable insights that help doctors create highly personalised treatment plans. Dr Larry Norton, Medical Director at Sloan Kettering, affirms, “With Watson, we can blend the best of human intuition and clinical experience with machine precision and speed. It’s collaboration at its most powerful.”

Making Supply Chains Predictable

Even behind-the-scenes operations like supply chain management benefit dramatically from Watson’s predictive abilities. Imagine an AI sophisticated enough to predict precisely when customers will make purchases during promotions, or to foresee delays and disruptions weeks in advance. Global retail giants are leveraging Watson’s forecasting tools to ensure products are in the right place, at the right time, keeping customers happy—and their shelves stocked without unnecessary waste.

Finance Gets Smart—and Safe

In finance, where security and customer trust are paramount, Watson is like having a team of eagle-eyed experts constantly watching for irregularities. The AI platform analyses financial transactions at incredible speeds, detecting fraud attempts and suspicious activity far faster and more accurately than conventional systems. This isn’t just smart—it’s essential in a digitalfirst world. “With Watson, institutions can identify risks proactively,” says Michelle Peluso, IBM’s Chief Customer Officer. “That’s peace of mind you can’t put a price on.”

Creative Marketing, Enhanced by AI

Perhaps surprisingly, Watson also has a creative streak. In marketing, the AI analyses trends, social media buzz, and customer feedback to craft campaigns that resonate deeply with target audiences. Brands now have an AI-powered ally that intuitively understands their customers’ needs and preferences, enabling more meaningful connections—and, ultimately, driving loyalty and growth.

The Human Factor in AI Adoption

Of course, integrating such sophisticated technology doesn’t come without challenges. Concerns around data security, staff training, and initial investment can feel daunting. Yet, the businesses thriving with Watson have embraced these hurdles head-on, understanding that future-proofing their operations is a worthwhile endeavour. “Businesses shouldn’t see AI as a hurdle, but as an opportunity to elevate human potential,” advises Dr Kelly. “The future belongs to those who combine human creativity with AI’s analytical power.”

The Road Ahead

The integration of IBM Watson across sectors—from retail and finance to healthcare and beyond—is changing the way global brands operate. By intelligently predicting customer behaviour, proactively managing risks, and providing tailored experiences at scale, Watson helps businesses not just navigate the future, but actively shape it. Ultimately, IBM Watson isn’t about replacing human effort—it’s about empowering it. It’s a story of collaboration, innovation, and above all, the art of staying ahead.

PIONEERING MINDS: CONVERSATIONS WITH AI VISIONARIES

Exploring the insights and philosophies of two leaders shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

In the rapidly evolving realm of artificial intelligence (AI), certain individuals stand out not just for their technical contributions but also for their ability to frame the future in ways that are both visionary and grounded in human values. Among these standout voices are Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI (and previously co-founder of DeepMind), and Professor Fei-Fei Li, codirector of Stanford University’s Human-Centred AI Institute. Together, they are reshaping how we think about AI—not as a cold, distant tool, but as a deeply personal and transformative force in our lives.Their work, while distinct in context and execution, shares a common thread: the desire to place humans at the heart of innovation. In an era where headlines often focus on doom-laden warnings or tech-for-tech’s-sake, Suleyman and Li offer something far more grounded—leadership that is thoughtful, ambitious, and unafraid to ask the big ethical questions.

Mustafa Suleyman: The Architect of “Digital Souls” Mustafa Suleyman is no stranger to ambitious thinking. A co-founder of DeepMind—the AI company that created AlphaGo and was later acquired by Google—he’s been at the frontier of AI development for over a decade. Now, as the CEO of Microsoft AI following its acquisition of Inflection AI, Suleyman has shifted his focus to something both radical and deeply human: AI companions. His work centres around the creation of personal, emotionally intelligent digital assistants—ones with names, voices, and avatars that people can talk to throughout their day. Far from the task-oriented assistants we know now, Suleyman’s vision leans into companionship and trust. “AI is a technology with almost every use case imaginable,” he said recently. “The goal is to build a new computing platform that helps people in all aspects of their lives—not just to search or schedule, but to think and feel.” This ethos extends into his recent book, The Coming Wave, which offers both a warning and a blueprint for managing the exponential growth of AI. In it, Suleyman outlines what he calls the “containment problem”—the challenge of ensuring technologies that evolve faster than legislation or social norms remain safe and beneficial. He argues for global governance structures and anticipatory regulation, seeing AI not as an inevitability to be endured, but a creative force that can and must be shaped with care.

Fei-Fei Li: The Visionary Behind Human-Centred AI

On the other side of the Atlantic, Professor Fei-Fei Li has been equally influential in shaping the trajectory of AI research— but from a decidedly humanistic perspective. As the inventor of ImageNet, the massive visual database that helped usher in the deep learning revolution, Li has already left an indelible mark on computer vision. Yet, it’s her advocacy for inclusive, human-centred AI that defines her most compelling work today. As co-director of Stanford’s Human-Centred AI Institute, Li champions an interdisciplinary approach that combines computer science with ethics, medicine, psychology, and the arts. “When we think about this technology, we need to put human dignity, human well-being—human jobs—in the centre of consideration,” she has said. To Li, AI isn’t just an engineering problem; it’s a social one. She’s also the founder of AI4ALL, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing diversity in the AI field. Through mentorship and education, the programme introduces high school students—particularly those from underrepresented communities—to the world of artificial intelligence. “Who gets to shape AI,” Li often asks, “is just as important as how it’s shaped.” Li’s approach is a corrective to the prevailing tech narrative: that bigger, faster, and smarter is always better. Instead, she argues for slower, more intentional progress—progress that doesn’t just ask “Can we?” but also “Should we?” and “For whom?”

Converging Perspectives: Ethics, Equity, and Agency

Though Suleyman and Li operate in different spheres—one corporate, one academic—their philosophies converge in significant ways. Both advocate for AI that empowers rather than replaces, enhances rather than dictates. Both see inclusion as essential, not optional. And both are increasingly vocal about the need for ethical frameworks that keep pace with technological innovation. Suleyman warns that without serious attention to design and deployment, AI could exacerbate social divides or amplify harmful biases. Li shares these concerns, adding that the lack of diverse voices in AI development increases the risk of building systems that do not reflect or serve society as a whole. And yet, neither leader is pessimistic. Their messages are infused with hope: that with care, cooperation, and foresight, AI can be a force for extraordinary good. Suleyman points to the productivity gains AI could unlock in healthcare, education, and climate science. Li imagines a world where AI augments human empathy—helping people connect, learn, and thrive in new ways.

Leadership in the Age of Intelligence

As governments scramble to legislate and businesses rush to integrate AI into every conceivable product, voices like Suleyman’s and Li’s are essential. They remind us that while AI is indeed powerful, it is not autonomous—it reflects the priorities and values of its creators. For luxury retailers, hospitals, schools, and startups alike, these insights are more than philosophical— they’re practical. AI can drive efficiencies and delight customers, but it can also alienate and disrupt if deployed carelessly. Leadership in AI, as both Suleyman and Li demonstrate, is not just about building the most powerful systems—it’s about knowing what kind of world you’re building them for. Ultimately, their stories converge into a shared vision: a world where technology serves people—not the other way around. A world where innovation is paired with empathy. And a future shaped not just by intelligence, but by wisdom.

AI’S TRANSFORMATIVE ROLE IN HEALTHCARE

Exploring the innovations and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into modern healthcare through the lenses of Babylon Health and Google’s Med-PaLM.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic concept within healthcare—it’s already at work behind the scenes, helping clinicians diagnose more accurately, allowing patients to access advice in real-time, and reimagining what healthcare delivery could look like. Two standout innovations in this space, Babylon Health and Google’s Med-PaLM, illustrate the promise and pitfalls of AI’s integration into medicine.

Babylon Health: Ambitions, Innovation, and a Hard Fall

Founded in 2013 by British-Iranian entrepreneur Dr Ali Parsa, Babylon Health began with a grand vision: to make healthcare “accessible and affordable for every person on earth.” The company’s AI-powered health platform enabled users to input their symptoms into a chatbot, which then provided potential diagnoses, health information, and direction on next steps. Combined with access to telemedicine appointments, Babylon seemed poised to fill a critical gap in overburdened health systems.

The app gained significant traction in the UK and abroad. By 2019, Babylon was facilitating over 5,000 virtual consultations per day and had expanded to 17 countries, reportedly covering more than 20 million users. The company partnered with national health services and insurers, and in 2021, went public via a SPAC deal that valued it at close to $4.2 billion. Yet cracks soon began to show. Medical professionals voiced concerns over the diagnostic accuracy of the symptom checker, with some fearing that complex or serious conditions could be missed by an AI not equipped to weigh nuance, subtlety, or atypical presentations. While the company stood by its algorithms, it faced criticism for what some considered a “tech-first” approach that occasionally sidelined clinical rigour. Operational challenges also mounted.

Expansion proved expensive, and Babylon struggled to turn a profit. In August 2023, less than two years after its Wall Street debut, Babylon filed for bankruptcy in the US. Assets were sold off, and what had once been considered a digital health unicorn became a cautionary tale. Still, Babylon’s legacy shouldn’t be dismissed. It demonstrated public appetite for accessible, tech-enabled healthcare and highlighted the scalability of virtual care models. Most importantly, it brought AI in healthcare into public consciousness—warts and all.

Google’s Med-PaLM: Cautious Progress with Powerful Potential

While Babylon aimed directly at consumers, Google’s Med-PaLM is being developed as a clinical tool for professionals. Part of Google Research’s work in large language models, Med-PaLM (and its more advanced iteration, Med-PaLM 2) is designed to answer medical questions with expert-level accuracy. When first tested against US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) questions in 2022, Med-PaLM scored 67.6%—the first AI system to exceed the passing threshold. Med-PaLM 2 significantly improved on this, scoring 86.5%.

In some evaluations, doctors even preferred its long-form answers to those provided by human clinicians, citing clarity, completeness, and consistency. Where Babylon focused on consumer convenience, Med-PaLM’s aim is to support clinicians in real-time decision-making, helping them synthesise vast volumes of data, research, and patient information. The model is being evaluated for uses like streamlining documentation, summarising clinical notes, and offering second-opinion diagnostics. “AI can support doctors by providing evidence-based information and reducing cognitive load,” said Greg Corrado, head of Health AI at Google.

“But we’re deeply aware of the stakes, and we are proceeding with caution, consultation, and a rigorous testing process.” Google has partnered with academic and clinical institutions to explore the safe deployment of MedPaLM, including trials in data-secure, hospital-based environments. The company emphasises that these models are not meant to replace clinicians but to assist them—particularly in contexts where expertise is scarce or resources stretched.

Two Approaches, One Reality: AI is Here to Stay

What Babylon Health and Google’s Med-PaLM reveal is not simply two different strategies—it’s two different stages in AI healthcare evolution. Babylon attempted a leap into consumer-led AI healthcare, but perhaps underestimated the complexity of clinical application and the necessity of building slowly, with deep medical oversight. Google, by contrast, is taking a research-first, infrastructure-level approach, deeply embedded within the professional ecosystem. One stumbled, the other is cautiously progressing.

Yet both underscore a singular truth: AI will continue to play a larger role in the healthcare of tomorrow. Whether through improving triage systems, speeding up paperwork, aiding diagnosis, or empowering patients with understandable information, AI has the potential to lift pressure off overburdened systems while enhancing outcomes.

A Future of Promise, with Protections

Of course, the promise of AI must be tempered with robust safeguards. Bias in training data, patient privacy concerns, accountability in decision-making—these are not just technical questions but ethical ones. AI systems in healthcare must not only be accurate but also equitable and transparent.

The UK’s National Health Service (NHS), along with regulators globally, is working on frameworks to evaluate digital health technologies. Google, for example, has publicly committed to building AI systems that are explainable and auditable, while Babylon’s fall serves as a reminder that clinical quality and operational sustainability cannot be sacrificed in the name of speed.

Looking Ahead

Healthcare is, by nature, cautious and methodical—often for good reason. But AI represents an extraordinary tool for progress. The key lies in learning from past missteps and charting a path where innovation, care, and safety coexist.

As patients, we may not see Med-PaLM quietly aiding our doctor’s analysis, or know when an AI flags something important in our records. But we’ll feel the difference in speed, in clarity, and perhaps in trust.

And the next time we reach for our phones with a strange symptom at 3am, we might just receive advice that’s not only fast—but genuinely helpful.

WHICH DIET

IS BEST FOR THE PLANET? A LOOK AT CLIMATE-FRIENDLY EATING

The food we eat has a profound impact on the environment. Agriculture occupies half of the habitable land on Earth, contributes significantly to deforestation, and is responsible for a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. Meat and dairy alone account for approximately 14.5% of these emissions, making dietary choices an important factor in tackling climate change. There is now a growing awareness of ‘climate-friendly’ diets designed to reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainability. From fully plant-based vegan diets to more flexible approaches like the Mediterranean diet, the choices vary widely. But which diet is truly the best for the planet?

Understanding Climate-Conscious Diets

Among the most well-known sustainable diets are:

Vegan diet

Excludes all animal products, including dairy, eggs, and honey.

Vegetarian diet

Excludes meat and fish but includes dairy and eggs.

Pescetarian diet

Similar to vegetarianism but includes seafood.

Flexitarian diet

A predominantly plant-based diet that allows occasional meat and dairy.

Mediterranean diet

Includes moderate amounts of poultry, pork, lamb, and beef while emphasising plant-based foods.

Climatarian diet

Focuses on minimising carbon emissions by reducing red meat consumption and choosing locally produced, seasonal foods.

The Rise of the Climatarian Diet

A relatively new concept, the climatarian diet, was introduced by Climates Network as a way to balance environmental responsibility with personal choice. The diet encourages switching red meat (such as beef, lamb, and pork) to lower-emission alternatives like poultry and fish. It also promotes responsible sourcing, avoiding food waste, and eating seasonal produce. According to Climates Network, a simple shift to a climatarian diet can save up to one tonne of CO equivalents per person per year. Although reducing meat consumption has clear environmental benefits, some experts argue that the climatarian diet does not go far enough. Climate scientist Mark Maslin notes that while reducing meat intake is beneficial, “switching to vegetarianism or veganism can save even more emissions and reduce food-related deforestation.”

Comparing Carbon Footprints

A typical Western meat-based diet generates approximately 7.2 kg of CO equivalent per day. In comparison:

-A vegetarian diet produces 3.8 kg of CO equivalent per day.

-A vegan diet produces 2.9 kg of CO equivalent per day.

-A global switch to a vegan diet could reduce emissions by nearly 8 billion tonnes of CO equivalent annually.

-Even adopting a Mediterranean diet would result in a savings of 3 billion tonnes of CO equivalent per year.

Maslin explains that this could lead to a “saving of between 20 and 60 percent of all food emissions, which currently stand at 13.7 billion tonnes of CO equivalent a year.”

Water and Land Use Impacts

The environmental benefits of plant-based diets extend beyond carbon emissions. Producing beef, for example, requires about 15,000 litres of water per kilogram.

While some plant-based foods, like avocados and almonds, also have high water demands, an overall shift towards plantbased diets would significantly reduce global water consumption. Additionally, the livestock industry is a major driver of deforestation. A significant portion of the world’s agricultural land is used to grow feed for livestock rather than for direct human consumption. A reduction in meat consumption would free up vast amounts of land, which could be reforested to help capture carbon and restore biodiversity. Maslin highlights that “the land could be used to reforest and rewild large areas, which would become a natural store of carbon dioxide.”

Health Considerations and Ethical Dimensions

Adopting a plant-based diet has been linked to lower risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer. One study suggests that a global shift to plant-based diets could reduce global mortality by up to 10% by 2050. However, eliminating animal products entirely may pose nutritional challenges. Meat, dairy, and fish are primary sources of essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, zinc, iodine, and vitamin B12. Those following vegan diets often need supplements or fortified foods to meet nutritional needs, which may not be accessible to all populations. Ethical considerations also play a role. Each year, an estimated 69 billion chickens, 1.5 billion pigs, and 0.3 billion cattle are slaughtered for food. The mass production of meat raises concerns about animal welfare, particularly as plant-based sources can provide similar nutritional benefits. Maslin points out that “we slaughter around nine animals per person per year—even though the same nutrients can come from plants.”

The Ideal Global Diet?

While the choice of diet depends on individual health, ethical, and cultural factors, some experts suggest a balanced approach known as the ultra-flexitarian diet. This primarily plant-based diet allows for moderate consumption of meat and dairy while eliminating red and processed meats entirely. According to estimates, adopting an ultra-flexitarian diet could:

-Reduce global food-related emissions by 5.5 billion tonnes of CO equivalent per year (about 40% of all food emissions).

-Decrease global mortality by 10%.

-Prevent the slaughter of billions of animals annually.

Maslin suggests that “an ultra-flexitarian diet would provide the best balance—substantially reducing emissions while maintaining essential nutrition for global populations.” Food production plays a crucial role in climate change, making dietary choices an essential component of sustainability efforts.

While vegan and vegetarian diets have the lowest carbon footprints, flexitarian and climatarian approaches offer practical, scalable solutions for reducing emissions. A shift towards plant-based foods, mindful consumption, and sustainable farming practices can contribute significantly to a healthier planet and population.

SOVEREIGNTY BY CHOICE: BEYOND THE ILLUSION OF BORDERS

Why the World’s Wealthiest are Investing in Second Citizenship

Did you know that only 1 out of 19 individuals have a second citizenship? That means the vast majority of the world relies on a single country for their rights, opportunities, and even their future. For many, that’s simply the norm. But for the world’s wealthiest individuals, it’s a limitation they refuse to accept.

The Psychoanalysis of Wealth

Wealth isn’t just about assets; it’s deeply psychological. For many high-net-worth individuals, financial success is only part of the equation. What often follows is a desire for autonomy, legacy, and control over one’s future. Psychologists have found that affluent individuals tend to value freedom of choice, access, and influence more than the material symbols of wealth. This mindset often drives decisions around second citizenship; not out of fear or vanity, but as a rational strategy to protect their families, enhance global mobility, and preserve their way of life amid uncertainty. As borders tighten and geopolitical shifts unfold, true luxury becomes the ability to choose where and how you want to live.

The New Liberty Symbol

The growing interest in second citizenship is not incidental; it reflects a deeper shift in how individuals navigate identity, security, and opportunity in a globalized world. Embracing a global identity is no longer a bureaucratic coincidence, but a conscious, and strategic choice. In classic sociology, the “container theory” views societies as neatly enclosed within nation-states; like water in separate vessels. Each country is seen as a self-contained unit with distinct politics, economies, and cultures.

But as sociologist Ulrich Beck argued, “The container theory of society no longer applies in a global age.” While borders and national frameworks still exist, they no longer define the full scope of our social, economic, or personal lives. Today, mobility, dual citizenship, and global affiliations are reshaping how and where we belong.

This shift is especially evident among high-net-worth individuals and global entrepreneurs, who are increasingly embracing second citizenship; not as an escape plan, but as a forward-looking strategy. They’re not just diversifying assets; they’re diversifying identities, affiliations, and access. By investing in second citizenship, these individuals are not rejecting their home countries; they’re expanding their personal and professional horizons in a world that rewards agility and cross-border thinking.

Investment: A Philosophy of Control

Mathematical induction is simply the language of philosophy, and it’s the bridge between control, investment, and philosophy. While the three aspects come from very different domains, behavior vs. Finance vs. Logic, yet they can metaphorically connect in powerful ways, especially when illustrating how small, systematic decisions can compound over time. This brings us to the core of investing in a second citizenship. For HNWIs, it’s not about wealth anymore, but sovereignty, geographic flexibility, and the freedom to shape and control their lives on their own terms.

HNWIs are typically self-made or have managed significant assets, so they value autonomy and the ability to make independent choices. Second citizenship provides them with the ultimate form of personal and financial control: the freedom to choose where to live, work, invest, and raise their families, regardless of shifting political or economic climates in their home country. Diversification is not just financial; it’s existential. We’ve read stories and research about immortality. While we may not be able to achieve that yet, isn’t it within our power to extend our legacy for generations; even centuries?

The Power of Choice

“To be or not to be”; that is the existential question that quietly shapes every human life. Beyond the mere ability to decide, our choices reflect the very essence of who we are. What we strive to control, where we direct our will, becomes a mirror of our identity. As Jean-Paul Sartre famously said, “We are our choices”; and at the same time, we are “condemned to be free.” Freedom is not optional; it is the inescapable condition of our existence. A second passport is more than just a document or a strategic investment, it is an act of self-definition, a powerful declaration of your determination to shape your own destiny. Choose carefully what you wish to be defined by.

ORIGIN VS. DESTINATION: REDEFINING WHO YOU ARE

Imagine if, when meeting someone new, you asked not “Where are you from?” but “Where are you heading?” It’s a simple, yet instinctive question that follows under the famous National Character Theory, which reflects a deep-rooted belief that a person’s identity, behavior, and values can be understood through the cultural and geographic lens of their origin. But is that still true?

The Anchor of Origin

“I had no special dream, only the ambition not to accept my initial destiny.” These words come from Mohed Altrad, a man whose life defies every expectation placed upon him at birth.

Born into a Bedouin tribe in the Syrian desert, orphaned as a child, and denied formal education, Altrad’s future seemed predetermined. But instead of accepting the limitations of his origin, he chose a different path, one that led him to France, to education, and ultimately to becoming the founder of a global industrial empire.

In 2015, Altrad was named World Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young. His journey isn’t just remarkable; it’s a compelling reminder that we are not bound by where we come from, but by the vision we have for where we’re heading.

History is filled with those who refused to be defined by their beginnings, people who fought not only for their own future, but to create a better one for those they loved. Will you be one of them?

It Begins with Intention

It begins with intention, true. But it only becomes real with decision. We all have goals, and we often intend to act on them, and this reflects our personal agency: the belief that we can shape our own lives. Yet intention alone isn’t enough. Psychology shows that real change happens only when decisions are followed by commitment and consistent action.

We don’t choose our origin, that’s a fact. But what if you had the chance to choose again? Not just for yourself, but for your children too. What is your call?

Choosing your citizenship is one of the most direct expressions of personal agency, a modern declaration of “I decide who I am and where I belong.” And today, more than ever, that choice is possible. So, the question becomes a powerful existential prompt: Not just what passport do you want, but what life are you choosing to live, and why?

Decide & Become

You are the sum of your decisions, not your circumstances. The latter may provoke questions, but it’s your choices that reveal the answers. In a world overflowing with questions, few take the bold step to find real answers.

A second citizenship isn’t just a solution or an answer; it’s a key. A key to unlock mobility, expand opportunity, and redefine identity. Because the real question isn’t “Where are you from?” It’s “Where are you headed, and who are you ready to become?” Become who you were meant to be.

BEYOND THE CHARTS: THE ART OF COPY TRADING

In an age where time is the most coveted currency, many are rethinking how they engage with the financial markets. For those who value performance, precision, and an uncompromising standard of excellence, copy trading offers more than results—it offers smart solution for market engagement. NAGA Autocopy allows individuals to align their portfolios with top traders—those who navigate the markets with discipline and strategic insights. Rather than spending countless hours analyzing trends, copy users can mirror real trades in real time, guided by the expertise of seasoned investors. This is the true luxury of time—reclaimed through copy trading.

A Refined Way to Trade

At its core, copy trading is simple: when the trader you follow makes a move, your account does the same. But beneath this simplicity lies sophistication. NAGA’s platform offers access to over 4,000 assets, including global and local equities, forex, indices, and digital markets—allowing each user to tailor their exposure and diversify with intent. Unlike traditional portfolio management, there are no upfront fees to get started. With NAGA, performance is the only metric that matters. You’ll only incur a fee if the trade yields a profit—a modest 25% performance fee.

Elegance in Execution

Copy trading doesn’t mean surrendering control. Each user maintains full visibility into every trade— complete with historical data, risk profiles, and performance metrics. It’s a transparent, real-time experience designed to blend freedom with insight.

For those who prefer to observe, there’s no pressure to act. The NAGA platform encourages learning through action—and also through community. Engage with over 2 million users across a global network of like-minded traders. Exchange ideas. Watch how strategies unfold. Choose when and how to act.

Regulated. Trusted. UAE-Based.

Operating under the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) in Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), NAGA provides a secure, regulated environment—built on strict compliance standards and clear, client-first transparency. For discerning traders in the UAE and beyond, this is trading with peace of mind.

Where Performance Meets Possibility

There’s something inherently compelling about aligning with top traders—whether it’s driving a car engineered for precision, or following a trader whose craft is honed over time. NAGA Autocopy is not about taking shortcuts. It’s about appreciating expertise, embracing technology, and making informed decisions that reflect your ambition. In a world where luxury is defined by time, efficiency, and excellence, the future of trading lies not in doing more—but in choosing better.

Copy trading is risky. Past performance is not an indication of future results.

THE RISE OF ETHICAL LUXURY: HOW CHLOÉ, NANUSHKA, AND PANGAIA ARE REDEFINING FASHION

EXPLORING HOW LEADING FASHION HOUSES ARE INTERTWINING SUSTAINABILITY WITH LUXURY TO CRAFT A MORE RESPONSIBLE FUTURE IN FASHION.

Luxury fashion is under pressure—not to produce more, but to produce better. As shoppers grow more conscious of what they buy and why, brands at the top end of the market are rewriting the rulebook. It’s no longer enough to rely on heritage and impeccable tailoring; questions are being asked about origin, materials, impact, and purpose. Some houses are slow to adapt. Others are quietly leading the charge. Among them, Chloé, Nanushka, and Pangaia are showing that true innovation isn’t just about design—it’s about ethics, transparency, and how garments fit into the wider world.

Chloé: Parisian Elegance Meets Purpose

Chloé, long known for its ethereal French-girl aesthetic, has been steadily shifting its focus. Since Gabriela Hearst took the creative reins in 2020, the label has evolved into something more than just beautiful—it’s purposeful. In 2021, Chloé became the first luxury fashion house to receive B Corporation certification, a coveted stamp of approval that signals rigorous social and environmental standards. It wasn’t a PR move. It was the result of deep structural change: swapping traditional fabrics for low-impact alternatives like organic cotton and recycled cashmere, and partnering with the World Fair Trade Organization to ensure fair wages and ethical production throughout the supply chain.Chloé has publicly committed to making %90 of its collections from lowerimpact materials by 2025, a bold target that reflects a mindset shift across every touchpoint of the brand—from suppliers and logistics to packaging and internal governance. There’s still silk, still tailoring, still those quintessential Chloé boots. But now there’s substance too—and that may be the most luxurious thing of all.

Nanushka: Sustainable by Design, Not Slogan

When Nanushka first appeared on the global radar, it wasn’t shouting about sustainability. It didn’t need to. Founded by Sandra Sandor in Budapest, the brand quickly established itself as a quiet innovator—balancing contemporary design with a refreshingly pragmatic approach to responsible fashion.

Around %85 of Nanushka’s production happens in Hungary, keeping supply chains local, labour practices traceable, and carbon emissions minimal. Its signature fabrics—like Okobor, a vegan leather alternative made from recycled polyester—look and feel luxurious, without the environmental baggage of traditional leather.

While others scramble to greenwash their image, Nanushka has taken a longer view: slow growth, thoughtful materials, and collections that lean into durability and long-term wearability. The brand has also launched resale and rental services, giving pastseason pieces a second life and offering a welcome alternative to the wasteful churn of fast fashion. For a label that prides itself on relaxed silhouettes and earthy tones, its real impact is in the details: garments that hold up ethically as well as aesthetically.

Pangaia: Science as Style Language

Pangaia isn’t a traditional fashion brand—it’s a materials science company masquerading as one. Since launching in 2018, it has gained cult status among Gen Z and tech-savvy minimalists, thanks to its bold colours, low-key branding, and obsessive focus on environmental innovation. What sets Pangaia apart is its in-house team of scientists and researchers, constantly experimenting with biodegradable fibres, plant-based dyes, and sustainable alternatives to everything from down to denim. One standout is its Grape Leather, made from wine industry waste. Another: its use of seaweed fibre and eucalyptus pulp to create breathable, naturally antimicrobial basics. Transparency is part of the DNA. Each product comes with a breakdown of its environmental credentials—from CO₂ savings to water consumption—placing the power of knowledge directly in the hands of consumers. And while Pangaia’s clean, technical aesthetic feels effortlessly cool, it’s backed by serious substance. For those who want sustainability with edge—and evidence—Pangaia is the future in motion.

More Than a Marketing Moment

There’s always the risk that ethical fashion becomes a box-ticking exercise, or worse, a short-term trend. But what Chloé, Nanushka, and Pangaia demonstrate is that responsibility can be structural, not superficial. They’re designing collections with intention, building supply chains that respect people and planet, and proving that aesthetic excellence doesn’t have to come at an environmental cost.

Luxury used to mean exclusivity, rarity, and status. Increasingly, it means consideration—of impact, process, and values. Consumers want more than just great clothes; they want to know the story behind them. That shift in expectation is forcing even heritage brands to take stock.

Conscious Clothing for a Connected World

It’s easy to write off terms like “ethical fashion” as marketing fluff. But when done right, it becomes an act of cultural relevance. The lines between style, science, and social responsibility are blurring—and these brands aren’t just keeping up; they’re shaping the conversation. For the modern luxury consumer, choosing pieces from brands like Chloé, Nanushka, or Pangaia isn’t just a matter of taste—it’s a statement of alignment. Fashion, after all, has always been personal. Now, it’s becoming personal with purpose.

GLOBAL STYLE, STREAMLINED: THE CAPSULE WARDROBE FOR THE MODERN TRAVELLER

MASTER THE ART OF MINIMALIST PACKING WITHOUT SACRIFICING SOPHISTICATION— BECAUSE GREAT STYLE SHOULD TRAVEL WELL.

When your week includes breakfast in London, a layover in Zurich, and sundowners in Abu Dhabi, your suitcase needs to be as efficient as your itinerary. A capsule wardrobe—tailored, compact, and effortlessly versatile—is every well-dressed traveller’s secret weapon. The trick? Choosing pieces that pair well, wear well, and pack even better.

Start with a neutral palette (navy, grey, black, white, olive), and use the 1-2-3-4-5 rule to pack with precision: five tops, four bottoms, three pairs of shoes, two jackets, and one suit or statement piece. It’s a framework that reduces overpacking while ensuring you’ve got every base—and timezone—covered.

Here’s how that looks in luxury:

5 Tops

Think crisp shirts, polos, and a fine-gauge knit.

Expert picks: Charvet Poplin Shirt, Sunspel Cotton Polo, Loro Piana Merino Sweater.

4 Bottoms

A mix of tailored trousers and smart denim.

Expert picks: Brunello Cucinelli Slim Jeans, Canali Wool Trousers, Orlebar Brown Tailored Shorts.

3 Pairs of Shoes

One casual (trainers), one smart (loafers), one climate-specific. Expert picks: Common Projects Sneakers, John Lobb Loafers, Berluti Slides or Church’s Desert Boots.

2 Jackets

One blazer and one weatherproof option.

Expert picks: Tom Ford Shelton Blazer, Burberry Kensington Trench.

1 Statement Piece

This could be a suit, a standout knit, or a sharply cut coat. Expert pick: Ermenegildo Zegna Travel Suit—versatile and crease-resistant.

Finish with a few well-chosen accessories: a quality leather belt, Zegna wool-silk scarf, a Rolex Oyster Perpetual, and a carry-all like Louis Vuitton’s Christopher Backpack. This approach isn’t just stylish—it’s strategic. With 15 or so pieces, you can build dozens of looks that cover every scenario, from airport lounge to black-tie gala. Travelling light has never looked so sharp.

Enter the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar: a rugged, solar-powered multi-sport GPS watch designed for those who don’t do holidays the conventional way.

The solar charging technology means you’ll get unlimited battery life in smartwatch mode, provided you get at least three hours of sunlight a day. That’s right—this watch literally thrives in the sun. It’s built to military standard 810 for thermal, shock, and water resistance (up to 100 metres), making it just as dependable in a downpour as it is on dry desert trails.

But it›s not just about durability. The Instinct 2 Solar offers health tracking, heart rate monitoring, sleep analysis, and built-in GPS with route tracking—so you can stay informed even when you’re off the grid. It syncs with your phone for messages, notifications and even lets you review your fitness performance metrics after a 5K beach run. For the eco-conscious explorer, it’s solar-powered tech with substance. For everyone else, it’s a watch that keeps up—long after your phone’s flat and your mates are sunburnt.

SOUND WITHOUT THE SHOUT: OVER-EAR ELEGANCE THAT TRAVELS WELL

Montblanc MB 01 Wireless Headphones – Smart Style in Disguise

If the thought of lugging around clunky headphones in °35C heat makes you sweat, you›re not alone. But don’t dismiss over-ear audio just yet—Montblanc’s MB 01 Wireless Headphones deliver rich, immersive sound with the kind of elegance that fits right in with luxury resorts and first-class lounges. Crafted with soft leather and lightweight aluminium, these headphones are surprisingly slim and featherlight. No gamer headset bulk, no plastic creak—just clean lines, minimalist branding, and discreet sophistication. Designed for travellers who want high performance without screaming “techie,” they’re as much about fashion as they are about fidelity.

Under the hood, they’re powered by Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio and Bluetooth 5.0, delivering crisp highs, warm mids, and punchy bass whether you’re lounging poolside or pacing a terminal. The active noise cancellation is perfect for tuning out engine hums or café chatter, while ambient mode lets you stay aware of your surroundings when needed. Controls are intuitive—simply swipe or tap the earcups to skip tracks, adjust volume or answer calls. Battery life? A solid 20 hours of playtime on a full charge. And when the playlist’s over, the fold-flat design slips effortlessly into its compact travel case.

Whether you›re listening to jazz on a rooftop in Tokyo or catching up on podcasts mid-flight, they’ll keep you immersed without compromising your look. In short: it’s everything you want from a luxury travel accessory—refined, reliable, and effortlessly cool.

CHARGE ME IF YOU CAN: THE CHARGING TRAY THAT DOES MORE

Courant MAG:3 – Wireless Power Meets Desk-Side Design

You know the scene. You’ve just kicked off your shoes, dropped your keys, and your phone’s down to %4 Instead of scrambling for cables or borrowing a flatmate’s charger, meet the Courant MAG:3 Charging Tray—a minimalist solution that brings order, power, and polish to your everyday space.

At first glance, it looks like a sleek catchall tray—smooth lines, premium Italian leather, and just the right amount of understatement. But tucked within its refined silhouette is a -2in1- magnetic charging system that supports both MagSafe and Qi-compatible devices. Translation? Place your phone and wireless earbuds on the tray and walk away—charging starts instantly, no fuss, no tangled cords. Unlike the clunky wireless chargers of years past, the MAG:3 is designed to live in plain sight. Set it on your bedside table, desk, or hotel nightstand, and you’ve got an organised drop zone that powers your essentials while keeping keys, rings, and sunglasses exactly where you need them.

It’s especially handy for summer travel. With space to hold your loose items and the ability to charge multiple devices at once, it eliminates that end-of-day scramble to find adapters, plugs, and missing cables in your suitcase. Just plug it in and let it do the work. What truly sets Courant apart is their commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability. The tray’s luxurious leather is responsibly sourced, and its design-forward aesthetic plays nicely with everything from bohemian beach houses to minimalist city flats. In short: the MAG:3 isn’t just a charger—it’s an upgrade to your daily routine. Whether you›re poolside or back at base, it keeps your tech powered and your surfaces stylish.

STYLE MEETS SCI-FI: SHADES THAT THINK

Ray-Ban Meta – Smart Glasses with Built-In Brains

Remember when sunglasses just blocked the sun? Those days are over. Meet the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses—classic Wayfarers reimagined for the always-on, always-connected summer adventurer. These aren’t just fashion-forward; they’re future-facing. Co-designed by Meta and Ray-Ban, these smart shades blend the iconic silhouette we all know and love with built-in technology that does more than shield your eyes. With discreet open-ear speakers and a dual beam-forming microphone system, they let you listen to music, take calls, and capture content, all without pulling out your phone.

A tap on the temple triggers voice control—ask Meta AI for the weather, shoot a -60second video, or answer a call mid-walk. The 12MP camera is cleverly placed for hands-free photos and video, and with automatic cloud backup, your memories are saved before you can say “Did I get that shot?”

Despite the tech, these still feel like sunglasses. They’re lightweight, balanced, and come with prescription lens options or the brand’s signature sun lenses. No bulk, no obvious techy aesthetic—just slick, wearable intelligence. Battery life runs up to four hours of active use and a full day with the charging case (which looks like a standard Ray-Ban case, but smarter). For travellers, city-dwellers, or digital creatives on the go, this is the wearable tech that doesn’t scream «wearable tech». It›s social media in stealth mode, content capture without a camera crew, and a soundtrack to your summer without the fuss of tangled earbuds. Bottom line? You’ll forget they’re smart—until they do something brilliant.

SUN, SAND, AND STORYLINES: THE SMARTER BEACH READ

Kobo Elipsa 2E – The eReader for the Thoughtfully Unplugged

For those who pack three books and never read one, it’s time to make room for the Kobo Elipsa 2E. This isn’t just an eReader—it’s your entire library, notebook, and journal in one slim, sand-resistant device that’s made for seaside thinking. With its -10.3inch glare-free E Ink screen, the Elipsa 2E reads like paper— even under bright sunlight. No squinting, no glare, and no need to awkwardly shadow the screen with your sunhat. And weighing less than a paperback, it’s lighter than that bottle of aftersun in your tote. What sets the Elipsa 2E apart is its intelligent functionality. Yes, you can download thousands of books, but you can also highlight, annotate, and scribble directly on the page using the included Kobo Stylus 2 Whether you’re editing a manuscript in Mallorca or doodling notes during your travel memoir phase, it adapts to your creative streak.

Even better, it’s made with recycled plastics, including ocean-bound waste, meaning this reader is lighter on the planet as well as your carry-on. The battery life? Weeks, not hours. The storage? A generous 32GB to house more stories than you’ll ever finish (but it’s good to have options). The device integrates with Dropbox, Google Drive and even supports audiobooks via Bluetooth, so you can switch from reading to listening without switching devices. It’s basically everything your overworked tablet tries to be—only simpler, lighter, and more relaxing to use. For the beach-goer who prefers prose over playlists, or the traveller who doesn’t want to pick just one book, the Kobo Elipsa 2E delivers a quiet kind of genius. Pack it once, read it everywhere.
