NORMAN FOSTER
Lord of the skylines of architectural mastermind
The Enduring Legacy of Norman Foster
At 88, most would expect to enjoy the tranquillity of retirement, yet Lord Norman Foster, Baron Foster of Thames Bank, defies such expectations. His story is one of relentless innovation and an unyielding pursuit of architectural brilliance. His life’s work has not only transformed skylines globally but has fundamentally redefined our understanding of the spaces we inhabit.
From Humble Beginnings to Architectural Nobility
Born in 1935 in the industrial heartland of Reddish, Stockport, Norman Robert Foster’s journey from modest beginnings to the zenith of architectural acclaim is a narrative of determination and visionary foresight. The son of a hardworking factory painter and a bakery worker, Foster’s early life was steeped in modesty, far from the architectural grandeur he would later command. Despite, or perhaps because of, these humble beginnings, Foster nurtured a burgeoning passion for structure and design, which propelled him from the confines of a struggling family to the prestigious halls of Yale University. It was there that he shaped his future alongside contemporaries like Richard Rogers.
A Visionary in High-Tech Architecture
Foster’s professional saga commenced with the establishment of Foster Associates in 1967, later evolving into the global powerhouse, Foster + Partners. His architectural philosophy, characterised by high-tech and sustainable design, has left its imprint on some of the most iconic buildings of the modern era. From the steel-and-glass curvature of London’s Gherkin to the vast, eco-friendly expanses of Apple Park in California, Foster’s designs harmoniously blend aesthetics with cutting-edge technology.
A seminal moment in Foster’s career was the design of the Willis Faber & Dumas headquarters in Ipswich—a pioneering project that redefined the concept of the workplace as a community space, complete with a swimming pool and a rooftop garden. This project exemplified Foster’s belief that architecture should enhance human interaction and well-being.
Innovations Beyond Static Structures
Foster’s influence extends beyond static structures to dynamic creations, including bridges and spacecraft interiors. His involvement in the Millennium Bridge in London, initially dubbed the “Wobbly Bridge” due to unforeseen swaying, showcased his commitment to both aesthetic and functional integrity; issues were quickly rectified, demonstrating his dedication to excellence.
His fascination with the integration of transportation and architecture was vividly brought to life in the recently curated exhibition, Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture, at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Here, Foster explored the evolution of the automobile and its interplay with design and culture, showcasing rare automobiles alongside significant art pieces—a perfect amalgamation of his passions for design, speed, and technology.
Challenges and Triumphs
Foster’s career has not been devoid of challenges. His ambitious plan for the London Millennium Tower faced public scepticism and was eventually shelved in favour of the less imposing but equally striking 30 St Mary Axe. His ventures into designing spaces like airports have drawn scrutiny amidst growing environmental concerns. Yet, Foster argues that engaging with such projects head-on is essential for developing sustainable architectural practices.
Despite personal health battles, including a severe cancer diagnosis in the 2000s, Foster’s zeal for life and architecture remains undimmed. He not only survived but continued to innovate, demonstrating that resilience might just be the most critical blueprint for success.

Legacy and Future
Today, as the head of Foster + Partners, Lord Norman Foster continues to push the boundaries of architectural achievement. His firm operates globally, influencing urban landscapes and nurturing a new generation of architects who will carry his vision into the future. However, it’s not just in architecture where Foster makes a profound impact; his dedication to humanitarian and philanthropic efforts is equally commendable.
Foster’s involvement in global humanitarian projects includes his significant role in planning reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, aiming to rebuild and revitalise communities affected by conflict. This initiative exemplifies his belief in architecture as a tool for recovery and resilience, providing sustainable solutions that restore not only buildings but also hope and stability to communities in distress.
Beyond individual projects, Foster’s commitment to societal well-being is evident through the work of the Norman Foster Foundation. Established in Madrid, the foundation promotes interdisciplinary thinking and research to help new generations of architects, designers, and urbanists anticipate the future. It focuses on the power of architecture, design, and urbanism to address key global issues such as sustainability, health, education, and poverty.
The foundation also runs workshops, offers scholarships, and engages in research projects that explore how design can improve social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. Through these efforts, Foster not only contributes to the immediate needs of the built environment but also invests in longterm strategies that foster more equitable and sustainable global communities.
As Norman Foster reflects on a storied career and looks towards the future, his life’s work stands as a testament to the power of enduring vision and relentless innovation. He lives by the motto that “the only constant is change,” a principle that continues to guide his hand as he moulds the future of architecture. In the ever-shifting sands of time and technology, Foster’s legacy stands steadfast, not just as a beacon of architectural innovation but also as a pillar of humanitarian commitment.
For those who seek to understand the impact of architecture on modern life, look no further than the works of Lord Norman Foster—a true titan of our built environment whose contributions extend far beyond the drafting table, impacting lives around the globe.

An Insightful Interview with Catherine
Rénier, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre
CRAFTING TIMELESS ELEGANCE
In this exclusive interview, Catherine Rénier, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre, shares her journey within the luxury watch industry, highlighting her experiences and the innovative strides at Jaeger-LeCoultre.
From her early days in jewellery to leading a renowned watchmaking company, Rénier discusses the fusion of tradition with modern innovation and the future aspirations for the brand.
Can you please tell us a little about your journey, your beginnings, and what led you to Jaeger-LeCoultre?
I joined Jaeger-LeCoultre in 2018, bringing with me nearly two decades of experience in the jewellery sector, having worked for Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels in both the US and Asia. I moved from Asia back to Geneva, drawn to the rich heritage and creativity in the luxury watch industry that Jaeger-LeCoultre exemplifies.
What inspired you to pursue a career in the luxury watch industry?
It’s very much about the craftsmanship. I’m passionate about working with maisons that have a strong heritage and identity, grounded on solid foundations of innovation and creativity. I enjoy bridging the past with the future, like with our new Duomètre creation this year, which combines a late 19th-century pocket watch inspiration with contemporary design.
At Watches and Wonders, what inspired the booth design featuring elements from the 18th and 19th centuries?
The booth was inspired by the blacksmiths in the Vallée de Joux in the 17th century, tracing back to when the LeCoultre family moved to Le Sentier and established the town. Antoine LeCoultre, our founder, was known for his precision in watch components, which is highlighted in our booth design, celebrating over 190 years of expertise and innovation in watchmaking.
Can you elaborate on the significance of the five chapters presented at Watches and Wonders this year?
This year, we focused on precision, one of our three key pillars of innovation. We aim to deepen the public’s understanding of what precision in watchmaking means to Jaeger-LeCoultre, from the quality of components to the precision of the regulating organ and the innovative multi-axis tourbillon introduced this year.
How did the invention of the millionometer impact Jaeger-LeCoultre’s approach to watchmaking?
The millionometer allowed unprecedented precision in measuring and producing watch components, revolutionising our approach. It garnered Antoine LeCoultre and our maison significant recognition at the 1851 London Great Exhibition, reinforcing our reputation for quality and precision.
How do you balance preserving the heritage and tradition of Jaeger-LeCoultre with the need for innovation and adapting to modern trends?
It’s about respecting our heritage while being forwardthinking. Our designs and innovations always reflect the Jaeger-LeCoultre identity, focusing on understated elegance and ‘silent luxury’. We ensure that our innovations align with our historical pillars while also meeting contemporary expectations.
Lastly, what’s your vision for the future for JaegerLeCoultre?
I envision a future where Jaeger-LeCoultre remains a creative and lady-focused brand, distinguished in the crowded watch industry through our educational initiatives and artistic collaborations. Our goal is to be well-understood and appreciated for our craftsmanship, creativity, and the dedication of our teams.

GUIDO TERRENI: STEERING PARMIGIANI FLEURIER INTO A NEW ERA
INTERVIEW MAY/JUNE 2024 28
Standing at the helm of Parmigiani Fleurier since January 2021, Guido Terreni embodies the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with forward-thinking innovation. His leadership is punctuated by a dedication to both respecting heritage and embracing modernity, making Parmigiani Fleurier a beacon of contemporary luxury watchmaking.
“In watchmaking, tradition is not a cage but a springboard for innovation,” Terreni explains. His approach is about harnessing the rich legacy of the brand to innovate and inspire. This philosophy is vividly realised in the recent expansion of the Tonda PF collection and the introduction of the new Toric collection. “These collections are a testament to our commitment to the art of mechanics so dear to the brand, reinterpreted in a fresh and contemporary manner,” Terreni adds. The journey to leading Parmigiani Fleurier was serendipitous, intertwined deeply with Terreni’s personal life, moving to Switzerland for love, which blossomed into a profound passion for horology. “I came to Switzerland for love, and then I found a second love in watchmaking,” he shares. This personal narrative of love and passion reflects in his leadership style—intuitive, dedicated, and profoundly connected to the ethos of Parmigiani Fleurier.
Terreni’s strategic vision for Parmigiani is significantly influenced by his background at Bulgari, where he spent over a decade refining the brand’s watch division. “I’ve always aligned myself with brands that resonate with my personal values,” Terreni states, emphasising how this alignment shapes his leadership at Parmigiani. He sees the brand as an epitome of ‘private luxury’ and understatement, qualities he regards highly, reflecting the ethos of the brand’s founder, Michel Parmigiani. With an eye on maintaining the exceptional standard of Parmigiani’s traditional Swiss watchmaking, Terreni is also steering the brand towards embracing innovative practices. “The tradition of watchmaking provides a profound source of knowledge, not constraints. We look to reinterpret this knowledge creatively to stay relevant and progressive in our designs,” he explains. This vision came to life with the introduction of new complications in the Tonda PF line, showcasing Parmigiani’s technical ingenuity and aesthetic finesse.
Looking forward, Terreni is focused on nurturing the growth of Parmigiani’s collections with disciplined innovation. “In a world teeming with timepieces, if you choose to introduce a new watch, it must have something significant to say,” he asserts. This philosophy ensures that every new model is not just a watch but a narrative of exceptional craftsmanship and innovative design. For collectors and aficionados, Terreni reassures that the core values of Parmigiani Fleurier—meticulous craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to timeless elegance—remain unchanged. “We respect our heritage, and we are committed to continuing the legacy of Michel Parmigiani with every piece we create,” he promises. The essence of Parmigiani Fleurier under Guido Terreni’s leadership is about more than just maintaining the status quo; it’s about advancing the frontier of luxury watchmaking while staying true to the brand’s understated, sophisticated roots. As Parmigiani Fleurier strides into the future, it carries with it the legacy of its past, redefined and enriched under Terreni’s visionary guidance.

CHASING TIME: GEORGE CIZ’S JOURNEY FROM TENNIS COURTS TO TAG HEUER’S LEGACY
Growing up behind the Iron Curtain in Slovakia, George Ciz could never have imagined that his childhood fascination with Western brands would one day lead him to helm the marketing strategy of TAG Heuer, a titan in luxury watchmaking. His story is one of remarkable transitions, driven by a passion for sports, a serendipitous detour into the world of advertising, and an unwavering love for a brand that once existed only in his youthful sketches and dreams. In the late 1980s, in a small Slovakian town, a young Ciz filled his notebooks with the logos of adidas, Puma, and TAG Heuer.
These symbols of a world beyond communism’s reach were not just logos; they were windows to a realm of possibilities and aspirations. “I was always fascinated by the brands because I grew up in communism... We didn’t have the brands. It was all generic stuff,” Ciz recalls. Little did he know, his keen interest in these brands was laying the groundwork for his future career.
Ciz’s journey took a pivotal turn when he moved to the United States as a high school exchange student. There, he not only embraced the culture but also excelled in tennis, earning a scholarship that paved his way to a marketing degree. His academic path seemed set towards a career in academia, but fate intervened when he was invited to join the fast-paced world of New York advertising. “You can always be a professor when you’re 40, but you can’t start in advertising when you’re 40,” he was advised, marking his shift to a more dynamic career trajectory.
Years later, after a successful stint in advertising and nearly two decades with the ATP Tour in Monaco and London, Ciz was drawn back to his first love—TAG Heuer. Joining the company as Chief Marketing Officer in 2020, just before the world was gripped by the pandemic, he brought with him a vision to rejuvenate the brand by tapping into its rich sporting heritage and pioneering spirit. At the recent Watches and Wonders event in Geneva, TAG Heuer showcased two remarkable additions to its legacy of sophisticated timekeeping. The TAG Heuer Carrera Date enhances its 36mm model with delicate touches of luxury, including 18K 5N rose gold and mother-of-pearl dials adorned with diamonds, capturing the essence of feminine elegance and timeless design. This model, a tribute to the Carrera’s rich heritage, promises a perfect blend of functionality and sophisticated style, suitable for both spirited evenings and everyday wear. Simultaneously, the TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph made a striking impression with its innovative design and advanced functionality. Celebrating 55 years of the Monaco collection, this model features a unique combination of sapphire and titanium, achieving a lightweight yet durable design. It introduces the TH81-00 calibre, a cutting-edge mechanical splitseconds chronograph movement, which provides unmatched precision and versatility. Available in dynamic red and classic blue editions, this timepiece exemplifies TAG Heuer’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of Haute Horlogerie.
But it’s not just the products that tell the story of TAG Heuer’s transformation. Ciz’s commitment to storytelling is exemplified in the brand’s recent collaboration with Sky Brown, a young skateboarding sensation. In a spectacular stunt set against London’s iconic Tower Bridge, TAG Heuer transcended traditional marketing, reflecting its ethos of daring and disruption.
“It does amazing stunts... and to work for that and use those kinds of sports to tell the story of the brand in a very authentic way, I really love that,” Ciz remarked about the event. George Ciz’s narrative with TAG Heuer is more than a career trajectory; it’s a testament to the power of embracing one’s heritage while fearlessly forging new paths.
In his own words, the journey from a tennis scholarship to leading a luxury watchmaker is not just about the timepieces but about inspiring others to pursue their passions relentlessly. Through his leadership, TAG Heuer continues to be not just a keeper of time, but a creator of history, one tick at a time.

This early fascination evolved into a career marked by innovative creations that blur the lines between fashion and mechanics.
His foray into creating precision accessories stemmed from a desire to surprise and impress, a motivation that continues to drive his pursuit of excellence. This drive is evident in his meticulous approach to design, where every detail serves a purpose, marrying functionality with elegance.

My father, an engineer, inspired me. I learned early to think about mechanical features and how to make them work. He encouraged me to create functional plans for Lego models, sparking my interest in precision mechanics and design.
How did you start the company?

Bridging Worlds with Integrity and Style THE GLOBAL VOYAGER:SUZANNE KIANPOUR
INTERVIEW MAY/JUNE 2024 44
Suzanne Kianpour is an Emmy-nominated journalist renowned for her insightful coverage of global security and Middle Eastern geopolitics. As the founder and driving force behind Helmet to Heels, Suzanne has crafted a unique digital platform that merges the realms of journalism, travel, and fashion. This innovative approach not only makes complex issues accessible but also engages and inspires a global audience, showcasing her commitment to not just inform, but also influence and educate through compelling storytelling.
What inspired you to start ‘Helmet to Heels’, and how do you ensure its diverse content maintains integrity?
Helmet to Heels was inspired by my time in the field, where I saw firsthand the impact of conflict on women and the oftenoverlooked stories of their resilience. The idea came to life during a stint in Lebanon for the BBC, amidst the chaos of regional conflicts. Combining fashion, travel, and serious journalism, Helmet to Heels aims to engage a younger audience through the platforms they frequent, intertwining stylish visuals with rigorous news content. To maintain integrity, we adhere to strict journalistic principles while making our stories relatable and engaging, ensuring that the information is not only accessible but also accurate and thought-provoking.
What were the primary challenges of producing the documentary ‘Out of the Shadows’?
‘Out of the Shadows’ delved into the complex and secretive interactions between Israel and Iran, a topic fraught with political sensitivities and logistical nightmares. The primary challenges were manifold, including the inability to film directly in Iran, the intricate balance of portraying both sides fairly, and managing a severely limited budget. My dual heritage of Iranian and Italian descent provided a unique lens through which to view the story, though it also introduced personal risks and challenges, necessitating a nuanced approach to gather and present insights from a range of perspectives.
Can you share a story from ‘Women Building Peace’ that deeply impacted you?
One particularly impactful story from ‘Women Building Peace’ was that of a young Afghan woman hiding from the Taliban, whom we connected with Hillary Clinton. This interaction underscored the real-world impact of our series, providing a lifeline of hope and encouragement to someone facing dire threats. It was a stark reminder of the power of media to connect disparate worlds and offer more than just information, but also solace and support in times of crisis.
How do you prepare for high-profile interviews and ensure they are insightful?
Preparing for high-profile interviews involves a deep dive into the subject’s background, current positions, and past statements to formulate questions that are both penetrating and unexpected. The goal is to establish a rapport that encourages openness, moving beyond rehearsed responses to capture the essence of the interviewee’s thoughts and feelings. This human-to-human connection is crucial for revealing new insights and obtaining candid, newsworthy answers.
What unexpected lessons have you learned from travelling to over 80 countries?
Travelling extensively has taught me about the resilience of the human spirit and the unexpected ways in which different cultures tackle similar problems. Each country offers unique lessons in humanity, governance, and community life, which have profoundly shaped my worldview and reporting style. These experiences have reinforced the importance of sustainability and deliberate travel, aiming to leave a positive impact on the places I visit.
What advice would you give to aspiring journalists looking for impactful careers?
My advice to aspiring journalists is to persistently chase the stories that matter, even when faced with rejection. Embracing a mindset of resilience and innovation is crucial—always remember that each ‘no’ brings you closer to a ‘yes’. Building a career in journalism requires passion, determination, and the courage to follow your instincts, often breaking new ground to report the untold stories.
How do you combat disinformation in your journalistic work?

ELECTRIFYING ICONOGRAPHY
MERCEDES-BENZ VISION ONE-ELEVEN: A FUSION OF LEGACY AND INNOVATION
Mercedes-Benz has always straddled the line between tradition and forward-thinking technology. Its latest offering, the Vision One-Eleven concept sports car, continues this trend but with a futuristic twist — it’s all electric. This vehicle is not just a nod to Mercedes-Benz’s storied past; it’s a bold stride into the future of automotive design and technology.
The Vision One-Eleven’s design is an evolution of the brand’s iconic One-Bow design, famous for its aerodynamic efficiency and distinctive aesthetic. It’s a visual echo of the experimental C 111 from the 1960s and ‘70s, known for their gullwing doors and groundbreaking engine technology. However, despite these tributes to its heritage, the car does not shy away from embracing the modern ethos of electric luxury.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, sums up the company’s philosophy succinctly: “Our goal at Mercedes-Benz is not to do styling – our goal is to create icons.” This ambition is evident in the Vision One-Eleven, which seeks not just to replicate past successes but to redefine what a sports car can be in an electric age.
The vehicle’s powertrain is particularly noteworthy, featuring an axial-flux motor developed by YASA, a British electric motor specialist and a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz since 2021. This motor is touted for its high power output and efficiency in a compact design.
Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, remarks on the vehicle’s technology, noting its motorsport-like power and advanced battery technology. However, while these elements are impressive, they raise questions about the practical application of such advanced technology in everyday driving scenarios.
Inside, the Vision One-Eleven breaks new ground with a sports car interior that incorporates a lounge concept, merging analogue and digital elements in a way that’s both functional and futuristic. This approach suggests a vehicle that’s as much about comfort as it is about speed, a departure from traditional sports car interiors that focus strictly on the driving experience.
While the Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven is undeniably a technological marvel, its true test will be in how these innovations translate from concept to reality. Can it maintain the balance between performance and luxury in an all-electric format? Will it manage to embody the spirit of its historical antecedents while delivering on the promises of next-generation vehicle technology?
As it stands, the Vision One-Eleven is a compelling glimpse at the potential future of the Mercedes-Benz lineup, melding historical reverence with a commitment to innovation. It is a reminder that in the quest for future-proofing the sports car, some brands are willing to push the envelope further than others, aiming not just to participate in the market but to redefine it.

THE AUDI EVOLUTION: INTRODUCING THE ACTIVESPHERE
EXPLORING THE DUAL NATURE OF LUXURY AND FUNCTIONALITY IN AUDI’S LATEST CROSSOVER CREATION.
Audi’s latest creation, the activesphere concept, presents a fascinating vision of a multifaceted future, challenging the traditional boundaries between vehicle categories. This four-door crossover coupé represents the zenith of Audi’s sphere concept vehicles, marrying the elegance of a luxury coupé with the practical utility of a pickup, all powered by an advanced electric drivetrain. At first glance, the Audi activesphere is a study in contrasts. It stretches 4.98 metres in length and is poised on substantial 22inch wheels, exuding a robust presence that suggests both luxury and capability. The car’s ground clearance and Sportback design hint at a vehicle that refuses to be pigeonholed into a single category. With the press of a button, the elegant Sportback transforms into a practical cargo bed, dubbed the “active back,” revealing a vehicle designed not just for the eye but for active lifestyles.
Designed in the Audi Design Studio in Malibu, the activesphere draws inspiration from its scenic surroundings. The crossover’s ability to transform from a sleek coupé into a functional pickup capable of hauling e-bikes and sports gear underscores its design philosophy. Gael Buzyn, Studio Manager, encapsulates this ethos, describing the activesphere as a “new type of crossover that cleverly combines the elegance of an Audi Sportback with the practicality of an SUV and true off-road capabilities.”
AUTOMOTIVE MAY/JUNE 2024 52
Underpinning the activesphere is Audi’s advanced electric drive technology from its PPE modular system. Promising over 600 km of range and ultra-fast charging capabilities thanks to its 800-volt technology, the vehicle stands out for its sustainability and performance. This electric prowess is matched by an innovative operating concept that integrates augmented reality headsets, blending digital content with the physical world in real-time—a leap towards futuristic mobility.
Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development, emphasises this innovation, noting that Audi’s sphere vehicles are “a vision for the premium mobility of the future.” The activesphere’s interior, equipped with augmented reality capabilities, offers a new level of interactive experience, combining the digital and physical to create a space where passengers can feel connected to both the vehicle and the world around them.
The activesphere also features autonomous driving capabilities, allowing for a relaxed driving experience when desired. Its steering wheel and pedals suggest traditional control is still at the driver’s fingertips, offering the best of both worlds.
Critically, the Audi activesphere is not just a concept car but a statement of intent. It serves as a testament to Audi’s commitment to blending aesthetic appeal with practical utility, wrapped in the cloak of cuttingedge technology. It challenges the conventions of automotive design, aiming to meet the diverse needs of a future-oriented generation that values individuality, sustainability, and connectivity.
In essence, the Audi activesphere concept does more than just showcase a vehicle; it redefines what a crossover can be. It’s a bold exploration of how luxury, functionality, and innovative technology can converge in a single, transformative automotive experience. As such, the activesphere isn’t just a car; it’s a vision of what cars might become in a world where boundaries are meant to be crossed.

REVVING TOWARDS REVOLUTION
LAMBORGHINI’S LANZADOR: PIONEERING ELECTRIFICATION IN THE ULTRA GT SEGMENT
In a dazzling display at Monterey Car Week, Automobili Lamborghini unveiled its latest marvel—the Lanzador. This concept car not only previews a new breed of high-performance vehicles but also signals Lamborghini’s ambitious stride towards a fully electrified line-up by 2028. Part of the brand’s visionary Direzione Cor Tauri strategy, the Lanzador embodies a significant leap towards decarbonisation and electrification, first announced in 2021.
The Lanzador is a striking proposition in the Gran Turismo 2+2 category, blending rebellious and futuristic aesthetics with the iconic Lamborghini DNA—characterised by dynamic charisma and sportiness. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, remarked, “With this concept, we are ushering in a new car segment, the Ultra GT, poised to offer an unparalleled driving experience that’s quintessentially Lamborghini, thanks to groundbreaking technologies.”
This electrifying concept is equipped with dual electric motors—one for each axle—ensuring all-wheel drive capability and versatility across all driving conditions and surfaces. The system’s peak power exceeds one megawatt, promising explosive performance that is instantly recognisable as a Lamborghini hallmark. The driver can independently adjust the control systems whilst on the road via controls on the sports steering wheel, actively modifying the car’s behaviour and creating their own individual profile to best express their driving needs and ensure unimagined emotions.
The new version of the driving dynamics control system, Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI), will set another benchmark for the House of Sant’Agata Bolognese, in terms of both concept cars and future production cars. This control system gives drivers the utmost freedom of customisation, allowing them to modulate the active control systems to best suit their driving needs.
Active Aerodynamics is another key feature of the Lanzador, employed in the front and rear to maximise aerodynamic efficiency in the different driving modes. This technology enables the car to regulate airflow precisely, increasing the range in Urban mode and increasing downforce in Performance mode. In addition, thanks to its steerable rear axle and air suspension, the Lanzador adapts flawlessly to any surface and to driver-defined settings, which can be adjusted quickly and directly whilst on the road via steering wheel controls.
With the Lanzador, Lamborghini looks to the future and anticipates upcoming new styling solutions not only on the exterior but also in the interior, offering an entirely new experience in terms of spaciousness and comfort. The interior is a truly futuristic space, incorporating Lamborghini’s “Feel like a pilot” approach. The driver and passenger are accommodated in an ergonomic environment, with a light, slim control panel that makes it possible to actively modify the car’s behaviour while driving. The sustainable materials used for the interior, such as merino wool and regenerated carbon fibre, demonstrate the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact without sacrificing the performance and comfort typical of a Lamborghini. Some of the non-visible plastic elements, such as the foam in the sports seats, are made from 3D-printed recycled fibres.
Lanzador represents a true milestone for Lamborghini as the company continues actively working to electrify its entire range of vehicles and to achieve decarbonisation. The new concept car is part of a broad strategy to reduce CO2 emissions and embrace a more sustainable vision for the future.
A future of electrification: this is the direction Lamborghini is headed in, while holding firmly to the brand’s hallmarks of performance, cutting-edge technologies, exclusive design, and its position as a leader in the high-performance automotive sector.

MASTERING TIME: PATEK PHILIPPE’S 2024 HIGHLIGHTS AT
WATCHES & WONDERS
PATEK PHILIPPE UNVEILS GROUNDBREAKING INNOVATIONS AND NOSTALGIC REVIVALS
At this year’s Watches & Wonders in Geneva, Patek Philippe, the emblem of watchmaking excellence, has once again set the standard high. With a lineup of 11 updated models, the renowned Swiss manufacturer continues to innovate whilst paying homage to its rich heritage. The collection not only advances existing designs but also introduces pioneering features and a nostalgic nod to the fashions of yesteryears.
A standout in the 2024 collection is the World Time with Date Ref 5330G-001, marking a new chapter for Patek Philippe’s world time function. This model, transitioning from a limited edition launched at the “Watch Art” Tokyo 2023 into regular production, features a date display synchronised with local time—a first of its kind. Powered by the new self-winding calibre 240 HUC with an innovative differential system, the watch showcases a date pointer on the dial’s periphery, ending in a distinctive red hammerhead style tip. The blue-grey opaline dial is accented with a carbon motif, and the piece is stylishly paired with a denim-style fabric and calfskin strap, reflecting a more casual, contemporary aesthetic.
The Nautilus Chronograph 5980/60G also embraces this denim trend, maintaining its reputation for integrating complex functions into a minimalist dial. Since its debut in 2006, the Nautilus has exemplified how luxury can coexist with simplicity, with all chronograph functions neatly contained within a subdial at 6 o’clock. Equally impressive is the Perpetual Calendar Ref 5236P, introduced first in 2021, which has returned with a novel twist in its design for 2024. The model features a salmon-coloured rose-gold opaline dial, complemented unexpectedly by charcoal-coloured white gold baton markers and hands, enriching the platinum casing with a warm yet sleek look. The day, date, and month are elegantly displayed in a single large aperture at 12 o’clock, proving that functional complexity can be delivered with visual simplicity.
However, perhaps the most surprising revival is seen in the Golden Ellipse Ref 5738/1R. This model harkens back to the luxurious chain bracelets popular from its inception in 1968 through the early 1980s. The newly reimagined bracelet, the result of 15 years of development, is a technical marvel composed of 363 parts with over 300 links, each meticulously hand-assembled and polished. Secured with a three-position adjustable clasp, and paired with an ebony-black sunburst dial, the Golden Ellipse is a testament to Patek Philippe’s commitment to reviving and elevating historical elegance.
Patek Philippe’s 2024 presentation at Watches & Wonders not only underscores the brand’s innovative spirit but also its reverence for its storied past. Each piece, whether it’s breaking new ground or revisiting classic styles, exemplifies the mastery and craftsmanship that Patek Philippe is celebrated for worldwide. This year’s collection beautifully blends technical prowess with stylistic innovation, setting a new benchmark in the luxury watch industry.

BLUEPRINT FOR TOMORROW
Uniting global leaders and innovators, ChangeNOW and KPMG’s Earth Action Report sets out actionable strategies to tackle urgent ecological and social challenges.
In an era defined by its urgent environmental crises and widening social inequalities, the Earth Action Report emerges as a critical manifesto for change. This inaugural collaboration between ChangeNOW and KPMG synthesises the expertise of over 100 global leaders from diverse fields, offering a strategic blueprint for 2024 and beyond. Its recommendations span across ecological conservation, energy transformation, and social equity, providing a comprehensive approach to tackling some of the most pressing issues of our time.
A Comprehensive Approach to Global Challenges
The Earth Action Report identifies five critical areas where immediate action is required:
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection: The report stresses the paramount importance of preserving natural ecosystems, which are vital not only for biodiversity but also for human livelihoods. The current global effort scores a mere 2.1 out of 5, indicating a significant need for intensified conservation initiatives. Strategies proposed include stricter enforcement of protected areas, promotion of biodiversity in urban planning, and substantial investment in natural habitat restoration.
Energy Transition: Highlighting the critical role of energy in climate mitigation, the report calls for an accelerated phase-out of fossil fuels. Despite some progress, the overall effort scores 2.5 out of 5, reflecting the need for rapid advancement in renewable energy technologies and infrastructures. Key recommendations focus on enhancing government policies to support renewable energy sectors, increasing financial incentives for clean energy investments, and implementing international agreements to reduce carbon emissions.
Climate Resilience: With the impacts of climate change becoming increasingly severe, enhancing resilience is identified as a top priority. The report advocates for comprehensive strategies to reinforce infrastructure, update building codes to withstand extreme weather events, and develop responsive health systems to climatic threats.
Social Inequalities: Tackling social inequalities is crucial for ensuring that environmental policies are equitable. The report emphasises the integration of social justice in environmental decision-making, advocating for policies that ensure equal access to resources and services, support for vulnerable communities in climate adaptation efforts, and inclusive economic opportunities.
Water Resource Management: Rated as the area with the lowest maturity (1.6 out of 5), water management requires urgent attention to address issues of scarcity and pollution. The report suggests implementing sustainable water practices, enhancing water recycling and conservation technologies, and establishing strict pollution controls to protect water bodies.
Addressing Systemic Barriers Through Stepping Stones
The report outlines key “stepping stones” for overcoming systemic challenges:
Education and Awareness: A major focus is placed on transforming education systems to incorporate sustainability deeply into curriculums at all levels, thereby fostering a more informed and proactive citizenry.
Regulatory Frameworks: Strengthening regulatory frameworks is seen as essential for supporting sustainable practices and technologies. This includes creating incentives for green practices and imposing stricter penalties for environmental violations.
Governance Reform: The report calls for reforms in both corporate and political governance to better support sustainability goals, suggesting that transparency and accountability must be at the core of governance structures.
Economic Reevaluation: A fundamental shift in economic valuation is advocated, where economic models incorporate environmental and social impacts, moving away from a sole focus on financial metrics.
Voices from the Field
The insights from key contributors enrich the narrative and exemplify the report’s collaborative approach. Kevin Tayebaly, Co-founder of ChangeNOW, explains the foundational goal of the report: “Our mission with this report is to catalyse a unified approach to solve pressing global issues, translating expert insights into effective actions.” This emphasis on collaboration and practical outcomes underpins the report’s aim to not only highlight critical issues but also to mobilise a comprehensive response from various sectors worldwide.
ARTICLE MAY/JUNE 2024 74
Jérémie Joos, a Partner at KPMG, reflects on the diversity and depth of contributions that shape the report, noting, “The breadth of expertise from our contributors ensures the recommendations are not only visionary but also grounded and actionable.” His comments underscore the balance the report strives to achieve—visionary in its scope but realistic and implementable in its suggestions, ensuring that the strategies proposed can lead to tangible environmental and social benefits.
Elizabeth Whitlow, the Executive Director at the Regenerative Organic Alliance, highlights the critical connection between agriculture and environmental health: “It’s crucial we understand the interdependencies between our agricultural practices and the health of our planet. Sustainable farming is a key piece of the puzzle in preserving our ecosystems.” Whitlow’s insight draws attention to the necessity of integrating sustainable agricultural practices as a central strategy in the broader environmental conservation efforts, emphasising that the health of our planet is inextricably linked to how we cultivate and manage our land.
Looking Ahead
As the Earth Action Report prepares for its role as an annual barometer of global sustainability efforts, it promises to adapt and evolve its strategies based on the latest research and developments. This document is not just a report but a call to action, urging global leaders, policymakers, and citizens to unite in a concerted effort to forge a sustainable future. COUNTERFEIT LUXURY EXPOSED
Investigating the Impact of Fake Luxury Goods on Brands and Consumers
In a world dazzled by the allure of high fashion and luxury, the underbelly of counterfeiting reveals a less glamorous side of the industry. Ingrid Chua, a journalist known for her blog “The Bag Hag Diaries,” stumbled upon a dubious trend in 2019 that would take her on a revealing journey into the world of counterfeit luxury items. Advertised on platforms like Instagram and various high-end resale sites, these items included everything from pouches to beach towels, all tagged as exclusive VIP gifts from luxury brands—a proposition that seemed too good to be true.
Chua, intrigued and sceptical, began to investigate. Her findings would not only confirm her suspicions but also expose a sprawling network of counterfeit luxury goods flooding the market. This influx is not just a challenge to the consumers who might unknowingly purchase fake items, but also to the luxury brands whose reputations are at stake.
The charm of owning a piece from a top-tier luxury brand like Chanel or Hermes is undeniable. However, as Chua discovered, the reality that many face is a marketplace saturated with fakes—a reality that dilutes the exclusivity of these brands and confuses the consumer market. The investigative journey undertaken by Chua, now nicknamed ‘Sherlock Hermès,’ involved setting up undercover social media accounts to contact sellers directly. This led to the stark revelation that most of the items were indeed counterfeit, a fact further confirmed by her hiring photographers to analyse product images for authenticity.
The economics of imitation in the luxury goods market is staggering. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the international trade in fake goods is a multi-billion-pound industry, accounting for approximately 2.5% of global imports. Counterfeit luxury items, including handbags, watches, and accessories, are at the top of this list, with estimated losses to brands reaching around $30.3 billion annually.
The proliferation of these counterfeit items can be traced back to several sources, most notably online marketplaces and regions with lax intellectual property regulations, such as China, Turkey, and Thailand. These countries have become hotspots for counterfeit operations, where local artisans and large syndicates alike produce and distribute fake luxury goods that are often indistinguishable from the real thing.
Spotting these fakes is increasingly challenging. Signs of a counterfeit include significant price discrepancies, poor craftsmanship, and incorrect packaging. Luxury items typically come with high-quality boxes, authenticity cards, and even serial numbers that can be verified through the brand’s official services—features that are missing or poorly replicated in counterfeit goods.
The real-world impact of this issue is profound. High-profile raids and legal cases against counterfeit goods are frequent, with authorities seizing millions of pounds worth of fake items annually. However, these efforts only scratch the surface of a deeply entrenched problem exacerbated by the rise of e-commerce and social media platforms, which have unwittingly become facilitators of counterfeit sales.
Brands are fighting back with advanced anti-counterfeiting technologies, such as holograms and RFID chips, and are also engaging in extensive educational campaigns to inform consumers about the risks of buying counterfeit products. Despite these efforts, the battle is uphill as counterfeiters adapt quickly and continue to exploit the demand for luxury goods.
Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach that includes stringent legal measures, international cooperation, and continuous advancements in technology. Consumer education is paramount; understanding the true cost of counterfeit products—not just financially but also in terms of labour conditions, economic impact, and public safety—is crucial in reducing demand.
As Chua’s investigation highlights, the fight against counterfeit luxury goods is complex and ongoing. For consumers, the lesson is clear: if a luxury item seems too good to be true, it probably is. True luxury lies not only in the brand name but in the quality and craftsmanship behind it—a legacy that counterfeiters can never replicate. This unfolding narrative serves as a critical reminder of the enduring battle between genuine artistry and the shadowy world of fakes.

Natural materials dominate the interior, with a palette that contrasts rich dark tones with soft creams and oaks, creating an atmosphere of understated elegance. The saloon and communal areas boast custom furniture, including a uniquely designed coffee table and fluted wooden paneling that adds texture and depth to the spaces. One of the yacht’s crowning features is its skylounge, a remarkable area topped by a skylight that floods the space with daylight and enhances the onboard ambience. The lounge itself is configured around a large L-shaped sofa, facing an impressively stocked bar—complete with a wine fridge and a large screen TV—making it an ideal spot for entertainment and relaxation. As it sails from shore to shore, the Majesty 111 not only captures eyes but also hearts, firmly establishing itself as a paragon of nautical innovation.

CITIZENSHIP IS A PRIVILEGE
How Caribbean Citizenship by Investment programs are changing the narrative and taking control- By
Bilal Aqeel
In early 2023, amid pressures from the US and EU, the Caribbean Five adopted the infamous Six CBI principles which altered their citizenship by investment programs at a fundamental level.
Enforced largely due to security concerns, the principles entailed enhanced due diligence procedures, mandatory interviews and suspension of applications from specific nationalities. A year later, the Caribbean has decided to take charge for themselves, defining the essence and value of their citizenship on their own.
New Rules, New Beginnings
Four of the Caribbean Five – including Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis – joined forces in late March, signing a Memorandum of Agreement to foster greater collaboration on all key aspects of their CBI programs.
Having previously agreed under the Six CBI principles to share applicant information with one another, the MoA is set to lead to greater transparency and openness, as the nations have now committed to disclose details regarding program revenues and disbursements. By mid-year, the four nations also plan to create a unified regional authority to regulate the programs and establish standards in line with international best practices.
Of the terms agreed upon – which are expected to come into effect from August 1st, 2024 – the most notable was the decision to collectively set a price floor at US$200,000; with this, the nations are aiming to tackle the issue of underselling and price wars, which have plagued the stability of industry for the last several years. More importantly, the nations intend to create a level playing field, thereby ensuring fairness within the market.
Greater Unity, Greater Sustainability
The efforts of Caribbean nations to unify their CBIs have persisted close to a decade now – the MoA represents a significant step towards achieving this goal. The agreement not only enhances transparency and cooperation among the participating countries but also provides a pathway to restore trust in their CBI programs, both for investors and external stakeholders.
By aligning on higher but shared prices, the Caribbean is taking a bold approach to attract high-quality investors who genuinely care about the growth and development of the countries whose citizenship they seek. This marks a fundamental shift in operation, signaling to investors that these programs are built on a foundation of integrity.
The timing of these changes could not have been more critical. As the world’s political landscape becomes increasingly unstable, the need for a second citizenship – and therefore, a robust plan B – is becoming more and more important.
The Caribbean has finally taken control of the narrative – citizenship is not a commodity; it is a privilege. A privilege to enjoy the freedom to choose, a privilege to traverse the globe freely and a privilege to access greater opportunity.

THREE GOLDEN VISAS. THREE HOUSING CRISES. THREE DIFFERENT OUTCOMES.
Europe’s Evolving Residency by Investment Landscape
By Bilal Aqeel
Since the end of 2022, Europe’s Residency by Investment landscape has been in a state of flux, marked by volatility, uncertainty, and significant change. Greece, Portugal, and Spain, each grappling with housing crises, have pointed to their Golden Visa programs as contributing to soaring real estate prices and diminishing affordability for citizens. Their response? Three distinct approaches, ranging from price hikes to complete program elimination.
The shake-up began in December 2022, when Greece – home to Europe’s most popular and affordable Golden Visa program – announced a twofold increase in its investment threshold, from €250,000 to €500,000. This move, driven by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, targeted regions where demand and prices were highest, with other areas retaining the original €250,000 threshold.
However, in early 2024, yet another price increase was proposed, leading to a two-tiered structure with an €800,000 threshold in the capital region, nearby areas, and islands, and a €400,000 threshold elsewhere. These sharp escalations – 220% in the prime locations and 60% in others – aimed to curb skyrocketing property values.
Portugal took a different approach. Prime Minister Antonio Costa’s “More Housing” bill in early 2023 initially proposed a complete termination of the Golden Visa program, provoking intense controversy. The government’s uncertain stance on cut-off dates, the residence status of existing Golden Visa holders, and renewal processes sparked significant backlash, prompting concessions to accommodate investors. While the matter persisted throughout the year, the final version of the bill surprisingly retained the program, restructuring it to exclude real estate and focus instead on higher education and job creation.
MAY/JUNE 2024 84 ARTICLE
In Spain, however, the response was abrupt, swift and decisive, contrasting with the measured approaches of Greece and Portugal. Just days after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a review of the program due to its impact on housing prices and local residents, the government declared an end to its Golden Visa program.
Despite these divergent outcomes, one fact stands out: the economic benefits of Golden Visas often outweigh the perceived risks. These programs attract significant foreign direct investment, stimulating economic growth and fostering financial stability. For instance, Portugal’s Golden Visa program, with over 90% of visas issued through real estate investments, has drawn more than €6 billion in FDI.
Greece, with over 30,000 Golden Visas issued largely through its real estate route, has generated more than €2.6 billion for its economy. Spain as well, with close to 15,000 permits issued, has attracted billions in investment. It is, therefore, ironic that Spain, the country that developed its Golden Visa to address the eurozone crisis, which devastated its real estate market, opted to end its program.
These changes, therefore, raise questions about the true impact of Golden Visas on housing markets and whether they are indeed the root cause of housing crises, as governments have claimed. Ultimately, the landscape of Residency by Investment programs is evolving, but there is no doubt that the Golden Visas of Greece, Portugal, and Spain have been instrumental in economic growth.
Three Golden Visas, three housing crises; one raises prices, one restructures, one to end entirely. Whether these responses represent detrimental self-infliction or justified measures to address genuine internal challenges remains to be seen. One thing is clear: Residency by Investment programs are here to stay, even if they continue to change. Nations will continue to find ways to foster economic growth and individuals will continue to seek opportunity – that will always remain a fact.

REDEFINING OUTDOOR LUXURY
GENERATION Z TRANSFORMS OUTDOOR ATTIRE INTO HIGH-FASHION, BLENDING STYLE WITH ADVENTURE.
In the vibrant evolution of style, the intersection of fashion and nature has birthed a new era, particularly resonant with Generation Z. This demographic has embraced the outdoors not merely as a recreational activity but as a core element of their lifestyle and self-expression. With an eye towards the future, we delve into how this generational shift is influencing the fashion industry and transforming outdoor apparel into symbols of luxury and creativity.
From Utility to High Fashion: The Rise of Gorpcore
The fusion of outdoor aesthetics with urban chic has its roots in the 1990s when hip-hop icons like Mase and Notorious B.I.G. began incorporating elements like windbreakers and cargo trousers into their wardrobes. This laid the groundwork for what would eventually be known as “gorpcore”, a term blending the mundanity of “normcore” with the ruggedness symbolised by “good ol’ raisins and peanuts”, a favourite trail snack. By 2017, the trend was firmly established, with Gorpcore celebrating the utilitarian as fashionable. This concept gained further traction during the COVID19- pandemic, with a reported %24 increase in outdoor product sales in 2022 compared to pre-pandemic levels. The pandemic underscored the value of comfort and functionality, propelling gorpcore from a niche trend to a mainstay in wardrobes worldwide.
A New Vision of Luxury
The transformation of outdoor gear into luxurious fashion items is perhaps most vividly illustrated by the overhaul of traditional outdoor brand stores. The Arc›teryx flagship store in Beijing, for instance, mirrors a high-fashion boutique or contemporary museum, offering an elevated shopping experience traditionally reserved for luxury fashion labels. This trend is not isolated. High-profile collaborations between brands like Gucci and The North Face have further cemented the luxury status of outdoor attire. From Rihanna sporting colourful Salomons to Prada and Balenciaga featuring outdoor lines, functional fabrics like GoreTex are now synonymous with high fashion.
Inclusive and Creative: Outdoor for All
Today›s outdoor scene is marked by an inclusivity that allows for personal expression without the pressure of performance. Gen Z, a generation defined by its digital fluency and social media savviness, views the outdoors as a refuge from the competitive pressures of online existence. This mindset is reflected in the popularity of “Soft Hiking”, a trend advocating gentle, low-demand nature walks that emphasise enjoyment over exertion. Moreover, the landscape of outdoor fashion now features an array of unconventional items like outdoor loafers and cargo skirts, showcasing a creativity that extends beyond traditional boundaries. This reflects a broader, more inclusive view of what it means to engage with the outdoors—one that accommodates various expressions of style and activity.
The Future of Outdoor Fashion
As the definition of outdoor apparel expands, brands face the dual challenge of catering to diverse consumer bases while maintaining their identity. The engagement of Gen Z consumers, in particular, offers brands a unique opportunity to build lasting relationships with a generation that values authenticity and innovation. The burgeoning fusion of outdoor functionality with urban fashion not only enriches our wardrobe choices but also redefines luxury and leisure, illustrating a trend that respects both heritage and innovation. In embracing the outdoor spirit, Generation Z has set the stage for a dynamic evolution in how we dress for the world outside—blending the lines between performance gear and high fashion, and in doing so, crafting a new narrative for the luxury lifestyle.

FLORAL FRUITY ELEGANCE INNOVATING STRIDES: NIKE’S BLUEPRINT FOR VICTORY
NIKE REVOLUTIONISES ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR WITH THE BLUEPRINT PACK, EMPLOYING ADVANCED AI TO SET NEW BENCHMARKS IN PERFORMANCE AND DESIGN AHEAD OF THE PARIS OLYMPICS.
In a move that marries tradition with groundbreaking technology, Nike has unveiled its latest collection, the Blueprint Pack, which showcases the pinnacle of athletic footwear innovation. As athletes worldwide gear up for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, Nike›s new lineup promises to elevate their performance with cutting-edge designs and revolutionary technology.
At the heart of this collection are four standout models: the Nike GT Hustle 3 for basketball, the 2024 Nike Mercurial for football, and the Nike Victory 2 and Nike Maxfly 2 spikes for track running. Each shoe is engineered to meet the specific demands of its sport, offering athletes unparalleled support, stability, and speed.
The Nike GT Hustle 3 basketball shoe introduces a dual-layer of Nike Air pockets. This innovation provides exceptional energy return, a critical factor in sports where vertical and lateral movements are frequent. Nike’s Chief Design Officer, Martin Lotti, asserts that these enhancements in the Nike Air technology could be a game-changer in this year›s Olympic competitions, giving athletes the edge they need to perform at their best.
Football players can look forward to the 2024 Nike Mercurial, which features a refined four-millimetre Nike Air layer, specifically designed to improve agility. This tweak allows for quicker stops and explosive starts, crucial for the dynamic pace of modern football.
For track athletes, the Nike Victory 2 and Nike Maxfly 2 introduce a flatter, more stable ground-facing profile. This adjustment ensures greater stability at high speeds, a vital enhancement for sports that hinge on splitsecond timing and precision.

These advancements are part of what Nike describes as a «super cycle» of innovation fuelled by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced digital modelling. This technology allows Nike›s designers to simulate countless iterations of footwear designs without the need to produce physical prototypes, significantly speeding up the development process and reducing material waste.
Moreover, the integration of AI has enabled Nike to tailor its designs with a precision previously unattainable. By analysing vast amounts of data collected from athletes wearing its shoes in real-world conditions, Nike can fine-tune each model to enhance performance where it counts most.
Aside from the athletic models, the Blueprint Pack also includes consumer-focused innovations like the Nike Pegasus Premium and Nike Pegasus 41. These models benefit from the same technological advancements as their athletic counterparts but are designed for everyday wear. The Nike Pegasus Premium introduces a «sculpted, visible Air Zoom unit,» providing superior energy return, while the Nike Pegasus 41 features an improved ReactX foam midsole that enhances energy conservation and reduces the shoe’s carbon footprint.
The Blueprint Pack, distinguished by a vibrant white, orange, and blue colour scheme inspired by the sketchbooks of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, is more than a line of shoes. It represents a leap into the future of sportswear, where technology, data, and design converge to create footwear that could redefine the boundaries of athletic performance.
As Nike continues to push the limits of what is possible in sportswear, the Blueprint Pack stands as a testament to the brand›s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the pursuit of excellence. With its latest offerings, Nike not only outfits the world›s best athletes but also inspires them to reach new heights at the Paris Olympics and beyond.

BEYOND THE ICE: SARAH LINDSAY
From Olympic glory to revolutionising personal fitness
Sarah Lindsay has seamlessly transitioned from being an Olympic speed skater to becoming one of London’s most recognised personal trainers. Her illustrious career on the ice, decorated with a European gold medal and 10 British Championships, has profoundly influenced her innovative approach to fitness and personal training at her gym, ROAR.
At ROAR, Sarah has introduced a pioneering team-based approach to personal training, which is reflective of the comprehensive support she received as an athlete. “In most personal training establishments, the trainer is expected to manage everything. But as an athlete, I had around 15 people looking after me. We’ve adopted this team approach at ROAR where your journey is supported by a movement specialist, a nutrition coach, and a trainer,” Sarah explains.
This method ensures that each aspect of a client’s fitness journey is handled by specialists, ensuring superior results and service. Transitioning from athlete to coach brought its own challenges, primarily shifting from a self-centred to a client-centred mindset. Sarah describes this transition as one of the most significant yet rewarding changes she has faced. “As an athlete, you have to be selfish, focusing on your own performance. But coaching is all about the clients, their needs, and their achievements. It’s incredibly rewarding to see them transform,” she reflects.
Sarah’s expertise isn’t limited to training everyday clients; she has also worked with celebrities like Ellie Goulding and Mel B, customising fitness programs that cater to their demanding lifestyles and specific goals. “It doesn’t matter who you are; everyone has their challenges. The key is to customise the approach to fit individual lifestyles and goals,” she asserts. Her experience and success with Team GB’s figure skaters in the Vancouver Winter Olympics further attest to her capability to prepare athletes for high-stakes environments.
“I brought to the table not only strength and conditioning but also my own Olympic experiences to help them mentally prepare for the competition,” Sarah recounts.
Nutrition is another critical component of her training philosophy. Sarah emphasises the importance of tailored nutritional plans to enhance performance and recovery. “There is no one-size-fits-all diet plan. It’s about understanding individual needs and how they respond to different foods,” she states. This personalised approach helps clients optimise their health and fitness outcomes.
What sets Sarah apart in a competitive city like London is her genuine commitment to her clients. “We listen and adapt to our clients’ needs, helping them set and achieve their goals.
This commitment is what makes ROAR unique,” she proudly says. Her client-centred philosophy has led to numerous transformative stories, which, while not always publicly shared, have significantly impacted many lives.
As she continues to adapt her training methods in line with the latest research, Sarah remains focused on the fundamentals of making her clients strong and capable. Looking ahead, she is excited about expanding ROAR internationally, with plans to open a new site in Dubai and potentially in Singapore.
Sarah Lindsay’s journey from the ice rinks of international championships to the gym floors of London is a narrative of passion, innovation, and dedication.
Her work at ROAR is not just about training bodies but is a testament to her commitment to transforming lives through health and fitness.
