Love: Passion is Magnificent Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and its okay to be emotional for one day. The theme for this month is passion. Many artists, models, and rappers are enriched with this quality, and the GHM is here to support their goals. Love is in the air, and for some people that means spending extra money to show your partner that you care. I had the pleasure of interviewing a woman that has passion and an unconditional love toward her kids and soon to be husband. I am honored and privileged to introduce to Oklahoma a woman who is a make up artist, model, and a full time mother. Stefanie Davila is a rising star that can do anything she puts her mind to. GHM has made an influential impact in 2013 and that is because the magazine is evolving into a universally accepted magazine. The magazine’s success can be contributed to all the hard working people that are willing to run the extra mile to create a stellar issue each month. Customer service and feedback is something that GHM takes seriously, so if you haven’t already done it; please spread the word by checking us out on Facebook at (http://www.facebook.com/#!/glasshatmag?fref=ts) and tell your friends to visit our website at (www. glasshatmag.com). The cold weather is about to disappear, so this month, put some pep in your step and break out of your comfort zone and don’t be afraid of failing. The most important thing is to make a decision and to put forth effort to accomplish your deepest desires. I recently was blessed to get a fortune cookie that stated “Expect a change for the better in a job or status in the future.” I am optimistic about the future, and you better believe I saved this fortune and keep in my wallet. For those that are curious, my lucky numbers are 38, 16, 44, 54, 48, and 41. Nathaniel Goodwin CEO/President

The Golden Apple of Discord A stoy adapted from Greek Mythology

“I am not invited to the wedding,” the woman at the reception door screamed. The woman handed the attendant an item wrapped in beautiful black and white damask paper. “You may tell the king he must decide to give this gift to the fairest goddess of them all.” The uninvited guest then left without hesitation. After the wedding, the king could not choose between his wife and two daughters. Each one of them is known for their unearthly gifts, heavenly bodies, and sensuality. He promised he would never decide the fairest of them all. If only Eris had been invited to one simple wedding, but she always bring discord. As the king, he never knew that this one gift of the golden apple would bring a feud that would fuel passion, lust, adultery, love, and spark a war. Consequently, one cold early spring morning while wondering the woods, a very muscular, 5 foot 10 inch, olive skinned man encountered a site that he believed is a dream. Three very beautiful women stood around a fire. From a distance, he watched them. None of the women appeared to look older than 30. Each immaculately dressed to perfection. The most sophisticated women in his land could never compare to the women he observed. They all were so beautiful he had not realized he was holding his breath.

As he approached, the maiden with the cinnamon hair stopped mid-sentence. Her skin was fair, kissed with freckles, and her lips soft corral. Her eyes sparked blue like the sea. She wore a dress that swept the forest floor and sparkled like stars in the sky. The two other beauties turned at the sight of him. Before he could speak, the maiden with hair as dark as a raven’s feathers, eyes like emeralds, and skin the color of cocoa, began to speak to him. She wore a simple floral button up blouse, skinny jeans, and kitten flats. The cocoa-skinned maiden told him that they had a dilemma. They needed someone to decide who was the most beautiful of them all. She circled him in delight. She immediately decided that he would conclude their dilemma. He turned his attention to the last woman. She did not speak. Her eyes were brown with flecks of golden citrine. Her strawberry blonde hair tied back in a

simple bun. He had never seen any eyes like hers. Her lips dripped with merlot. The amount of rouge in her completion and curve of her body was enticing. She appeared to be wearing a very simple Robin egg blue slip dress that met mid-knee. Her simple attractiveness made him stop in his steps. Her eyes spoke to him. He could hear her through the silence. The cinnamon haired woman spoke, asked the young man his name. He responded, “Paris.” She then said that she and her daughters’ names were not of importance to him, however, he had to decide which one was the most beautiful of all three. Paris was confused as to how to decide between them. He did not know them. The cinnamon haired maiden decided that she and her daughters be judged individually, by their physical attractiveness and offers. The cinnamon haired woman insisted she go first. Paris and she went to a secluded enclosure. The cinnamon haired woman slinked past him in her star-laced dress. As he observed her, she spoke to him. She appealed to him, and offered him elevation of power. She said that she could give him power unlike any other man. Before he could speak, her turquoise eyes pierced deep into his soul. She told him “I will make you king of two continents.” He shook loose of her hand, and asked to see the next maiden. The woman with the emerald eyes and raven hair came to stand near Paris. His gaze did not shake her eyes. He felt the blood rushing to his heart. He could hear the loud thuds against his chest. She decided to be more direct with her appeal. “Paris, I will offer you what men desire most: power, skill, and mastery of war. You can then have whatever you want.” Her fingers grazed his muscles. He stepped away from her, and asked for the last of the three. The last woman came slowly into the enclosure. She stood in her pale blue dress. She whispered into Paris’ ear. Her breath was light and warm against his skin. She put her hand on his chest. “I cannot promise you what my sister or mother promised you, but I can give you your heart’s desire. You must choose me, not them, to get it. I need to own that golden apple,” she said, as she walked back into the clearing where her mother and sister were.

Paris returned to the women around the fire. Each one of them appealed to him in different ways. He knew that one offer was really what he wanted. Paris stood looking at each one of them. He boldly announced that after he told the women his answer, he must know their names. Each woman nodded in agreement that the winner of the golden apple would give all of their names. Paris cleared his throat. “Each one of you ladies is clearly enticing, heavenly, and any man’s dream, but one appeal sparked my heart. I choose the woman with the golden eyes. Your promise is the one I desire.” The citrine-eyed beauty stepped forward. She pointed in the direction of the cinnamon haired woman. “Paris, you would have chosen well if you had chosen her. She is the goddess Hera. She is the queen of gods, and protector of women and marriage. She also has the power to give you anything you want, especially power over mankind. “ Hera screamed, and disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

The citrine-eyed woman continued to speak. “This is my sister. Her beauty is known to bring men to their knees. She is the virgin warrior. She is very noble, wise, and civil. Men pray to her to for power, knowledge, and strength. We call her Athena.” With the raising of her arms, Athena disappeared. Paris now stands within feet of the citrine-eyed beauty. “Before we entered the enclosure, I spoke to your soul. I knew your heart’s desire. I know all men’s heart’s desire. I cannot give you me, because I am immortal, but I will give you what you desire.” Her citrine eyes glowed brighter as the golden apple glistened in her hands. She began to disappear. As she dissolved away, Paris heard, in the same whispered breath as in the clearing, “I am Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty and procreation.“ Later, the golden apple lived up to its’ divine origin. Eris, the goddess of discord, knew that the apple would cause suffering, jealousy, and issues among men and the gods. Eris was

so mad that the other Gods did not invite her to the wedding, because she was known for the discord she brought. After awarding the golden apple, Paris received his promised favor from Aphrodite. He received the undying love and affection of Helena of Troy. Helena was known as the most beautiful woman on the Earth. Helena and Paris fell madly in love. Unfortunately for the poor Paris, he was deceived. The most beautiful woman in the world, his heart’s desire, was a married woman. Under the spell of love from Aphrodite, Helena ran away with Paris. This decision sparked one of the most told battles of love in man’s history. Although Aphrodite’s golden apple, did not bare the fruit of happiness for all in the story, her son Eros (Cupid) continues to be the bringer of love to couples in heaven and on Earth. Now men and women pray that Aphrodite’s son shoot his arrow to unite their heart and souls in true, unselfish, faithful, and long-lasting love.

Quick Tips for Face Painting

Everyone loves to have their faces painted, especially kids! It is the perfect thing to learn how to do if you have young kids or you’re planning to have a birthday party for your children. If you are painting a design that is going to cover a large area, it is a good idea to use a sponge instead of a brush. Using a sponge will apply the paint evenly and help it dry quickly. It’s a good idea to have a few sponges set aside for each color to save time and energy.

Always let the first color dry before you start painting on a second. If you don’t wait for it to dry, they colors will mix and you’re going to have to start over. Make sure you know what you want the finished face to look. Don’t make it up as you go along. Ask the person receiving the face paint to think about what they want before it is their turn.

stencil. You can get stencils of stars, hearts, flowers, and all sorts of things. These are perfect for stenciling onto a cheek. You’ll need stencils of different sizes to accommodate different face sizes. Remember to have a mirror with you so you can show the person what you have painted, and to make sure they’re happy with your work.

If you’re not good at painting freehand, don’t be afraid to use a

I am a professional makeup artist, stylist, and, at times my own model, but most

importantly, I am a mother. When I think of all the talent in me, I know I can’t waste it away by doing nothing with it. I have so much to offer, and I know my work will speak for itself.

Stefanie Davila is my given

name, and I hold it proudly. I am 22, and I have already begun a family of my own and a career from hard work, determination, and the help of many amazing supporters. I am building my own up-and-coming makeup artistry business.

I wanted a way to express my ideas, my dreams and originality, to others; from coloring outside the lines to being given the chance to assist coordinating and sketching for my school’s fashion shows. I dream to be an inspiration through my words and my talent.

Having to start somewhere, I was

working myself to the bone here and there, looking for those open opportunities. I pushed through the struggles and trials, and enjoying the accomplishments that I encountered. Through the good and the bad, I wouldn’t trade it for all the world. I was honored to be given the chance to meet all kinds of wonderful people, true dreamers, that came my way. I hope they can say I left that ohso-important impression that I was somebody. From a young age, I always knew that I wanted to be an inspiration and a role model. I loved to help others, and I always wanted to help build confidence in people. Creating lasting memories with everyone I met was something I strove for. I remember catching myself drawing ideas of crazy artistic fantasies, clothing and accessories for stick figures, and mismatching outfits and cutting the hair on my Barbies to give them their own unique look. The older I got, the stronger my passion for my vision grew. Making my own mistakes and learning from them had a huge impact on the direction I took. I think, from all the doors that closed, or even walking into the wrong ones, I gained Continue pg.29

Higher Level Modeling Agency’s Make-up Artist

Interview: Stefanie Davila By Nathaniel Goodwin

O

ne word comes to my mind when I think of this successful Oklahoma make-up artist, and that is ‘commitment’. She is a renaissance woman that continues to work hard to gain exposure. I felt blessed to conduct this interview, because I

personally met this make-up artist two years ago at a network shoot. I have witnessed her blossom as model, make-up artist, mother, and friend. The funny thing about this interview is that I found out that she works for a man that you will get to know in the next issue of the magazine. I am proud to introduce to the world, the talented make-up artist, Stefanie Davila. Tell me about yourself. I am 22 years old, and a make-up artist and model. Make-up is my passion and my dream. I have an aspiration to get my company and name well known, so that many prospect clients can book me. I have my own website, and my web address is http://sdtouchofbeauty4ever. wix.com/professionalmua#!home/ mainPage. I encourage everyone to support me and check it out. I was born in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and now live in Oklahoma, and have converted into an Okie.

Can you describe a situation in your life that prevented you from reaching a goal? I have not yet reached my goals because I am still growing as an individual. I have taken a slow path because I don’t want to be famous or greedy. I have gotten a chance to meet many people along the way. My goal is to work hard and make sure that I raise my kids, and continue to have a successful legacy for them. When they grow older, I can’t wait to share it with them because I am happy that I am a make-up artist. How long have you been a make-up artist? I started doing make-up in junior high school and, as of today, I have done make-up for ten years. I have professionally been a make-up artist for four years. I am licensed and I enjoy getting my work published. Why did you decide to become a make-up artist? I originally wanted to be a designer.

23

I was very creative in school and art fascinated me. The more I started getting involved with photo-shoots, art, and make-up, the more I realized that becoming a make-up artist is a career that I wanted to pursue. I got recognition from clients at the shop, and they gave me the support that I needed. Why did you decide to join Higher Level Modeling agency? As a model, I have worked with Jimmy since I was 18 years old, and he is someone that I started out with. Jimmy has helped me grow as a person, and I want to work with him. All his goals and dreams are identical to mine, and I know that I don’t have to worry about anything when I am a make-up artist or model for his Higher Level Modeling agency.

The passion will give a person strength to wake up a 5:00 am to prepare for a 7:00 am photo-shoot with a model. As a make-up artist, you need to make sure that you network with the right people and continue to strive to get better each day. Don’t be afraid to take critiquing from other make-up artists, and always do what you love to do. Is it hard finding work as a make-up artist in Oklahoma? I went a different route that was not the traditional way of finding work as an artist. I did not work at a salon; I spent most of my time doing TF

(trade for print) work and built up my reputation. I have done commercials, and people from the commercials believed in me and would submit my work to other clients. I had to give a little to get a little. I have been fortunate and I have been getting booked frequently. My rates start at 50 dollars and extend to 300 dollars. I am not greedy, and slowly in time, everything will work out. Do you have any other hobbies or interests that are not related to being a make-up artist that you would like to share with us? I pretend to be Martha Stewart

What do you plan to do once you are featured in the Glass Hat Magazine? I hope to share the Glass Hat Magazine with all my friends and connections. I have kept up with the magazine, and I love new beginnings because I get excited when I follow a person and see where they go. I am hoping that the magazine will help me get where I need to go in the future and people will respect what I have done. How do you find the time to balance modeling, being a mother, getting married, and being a make-up artist? I take things one day at a time. Before, I would get flustered because I felt that I needed to get out there and it ended up consuming most of my time. I have recently taken a lot of breaks and life has happened. I only work on ideas that I know as a make-up artist and model are going to get me where I need to go. I also only help out individuals that are genuine and are going to be there for me. I want to make sure that I keep my personal life and my business life separate, so that I can be successful. Together, they are a unity, and that is who I am. God has some influence in the choices I make, and I have learned to be patient. What are some qualities that you think make a great make-up artist? Passion is a quality that I think makes a great make-up artist. The drive is what separates the good make-up artists from the great make-up artists.

24

sometimes. I find myself creating things and, behind the scenes, I will grab trash sometimes and I can make bows or ribbons for my little girls. I like to sew, so sometimes I will find myself cutting up clothes and making different ones. I recently redecorated my house with leaves and vines to make my house look striking. I have too much time on my hands and I spent most of my times focusing on new arts and craft projects. What is your personal motto that describes your outlook on life? If something happens, it happens for a reason. Touch and beauty is in the hands of the beholder (website quote). If you can dream it, then you can live it, that is also a personal motto I believe in.

Who is your favorite role model that gives you inspiration? Tim Burton is my favorite role model. I watch his movies sometimes, and I think to myself that I could have done that. He is an artistic person and I can compare myself to him. I try to recreate my work in a not so scary way. Many teachers at my school are my role models because they kept me going and let me express myself. I give teachers so much credit because they are the future of tomorrow. I

recommend watching or participating in America’s Next Top model because they teach models how to be successful. What is your dream job? I want to work for Paul Mitchell (Hair Dresser). I want to have my own brand, and I want people to wear my name and know who I am. I don’t mind if its clothing or make-up, I would love to be a coordinator and make it happen one day for Paul Mitchell.

What is your advice to aspiring makeup artists that want to get started in the industry? Do not hold back and make sure that you have your ideas right in front of you. Make sure that you take your time and that you do not rush your ideas, because when you rush your ideas you will forget many important steps. Practice makes perfect, and the only way that you are going to get better is to experiment and to have fun. What is your biggest achievement that you have accomplished as a make-up artist? I have many things that I am holding back on and I think it was an honor to do the commercial for Norman Regional Hospital. I have coached other make-up artists that are in the industry and I will never give up.
