Exclusive Interview with International Jewelry Designer Adelya

I was invited to meet Adelya , an international jewelry designer and inspirational woman. She flew in from Dubai to meet and greet the L.A. Socialites and tastemakers. The event took place at TZURI in Beverly Hills; Adelya curated a limited edition collection for L.A. It was elegant and sexy; for sure several “must haves” We indulged in champagne and Caviar from Seven Seas Gourmet while admiring and shopping the collection. This was followed by an intimate seven-course dinner at Il Pastaio. I had a great time and was able to get to know a little more of Adelya so please enjoy the exclusive interview.

Q&A

When did you start designing jewelry?

My jewelry journey began as a hobby in 2012, I was always fascinated with precious stones, their individual qualities and what each and every one represents. I began with designing for myself, and friends, then I was invited to be the jeweler for royal equestrian association in Abu Dhabi for the female racers, and this is how it began. The brand was born.

Besides jewelry do you design anything else?

My background is in interiors. I graduated from the Chelsea College of Arts and Design, in spatial construction and design, so for a few years I was designing interiors, working for architectural firm Claudio Silvestrin where we worked closely with the Armani group. I have also worked with Anouska Hempel and designed the interior soft furnishings for the Grosvenor house apartments in London.

How do you start your design process?

The design process in my case always begins with the stones. Their beauty and the process of their creation over millions of years tells its own story, I think color stones are the most beautiful. Our brand focuses a lot of comfort of the pieces for our clients; we try to take into consideration all the aspects such as the weight of the pieces, making earrings for instance light and comfortable to wear. My philosophy for my jewelry is that it has to fuse with the body in the most comfortable way and compliment the attributes of the wearer.

What is your favorite stone and why?

The favorite of the stones for me would be a paraiba tourmaline, for obvious reasons for its incredible and completely mesmerizing color. Its rarity also adds so much value to the stone and the vibrant shades of paraiba are so uplifting, I believe that paraibas suit absolutely every complexion and create an unforgettable image.

What is your “Must Have” accessory?

My must have piece from Adelya jewelry is the zodiac key pendant on chain. We have developed this collection with a lot of thought and meaning. The key is a protector symbol of the soul; we have 24 different variations, 2 for every zodiac sign, to provide choice. The stones used in this collection correlate with the zodiac signs. We have additionally set the diamonds on the back plate of the pendant in a constellation of the zodiac, this gives the piece even more personality. The chains are hand set with different stones; these are carefully selected to match the pendants. The piece is rather unique and is a statement piece that dresses up any day or night outfit and has become our staple of the brand.

What is a day in the life of Adelya?

My days are always a little different because I tend to travel a lot, and every country has a different schedule for me. But my favorite city to be

is Dubai. I usually start my day with a workout, after which I would grab a coffee and head to meetings. The meetings are so varied, that my day is always filled with interesting new information. After lunch I would visit the workshop to check on the production stages and process and to make sure everything is running smoothly. In the evenings I would normally have meetings, either dinners with clients or with friends. I travel to a lot of new and interesting destinations, so I always mix my work schedule with cultural activities, museums - where I get a lot of ideas from, exhibitions, historic sites and religious sites and monuments.

These give me a different kind of energy boost and help with the creativity process I feel. There are so many beautiful and favorite cities for me, each has the qualities I love and need in different ways. I love Paris for its fashion weeks and the shopping scene, for its palaces and exhibitions. I love Moscow for it’s convenience in everything and its great restaurant and food scene, the beauty industry is the best in Moscow with the most innovative skin and hair care solutions, I love going there for my beauty related appointments. London has always had a special place in my heart after having lived there for six years, so the whole city always feels like home, just like Dubai where I grew up. Dubai is a city with immeasurable capabilities. I love the growth and expansion it went through and is still going through. I have a lot of respect for this place.

Who is your role model?

My first role model would be my mother. She always inspires me in many ways and her wisdom helped me achieve a lot of what I have achieved with my brand. I also have a few role models within my close circle of friends. The kind of friends whom I really respect and whom I look up to adelyajewellery.com

Space buns

If your hair is thin, add some clip in hair extensions on the sides or in the back, depending on your preferences.

Step 1.

- make sure your hair is parted in the middle equally from the front to the back

- clip the pink highlight in the front, below some of your hair to hide the clips

- put each side up in a ponytail and secure with an elastic band

Step 2.

- for the space buns you need 2 ponytail extensions

- wrap the clip in pony on each pigtail created in step 1 and secure with ties

- take a small piece of hair and wrap it around the base of the pony to cover the textile band

Step 3.

- twist each pony into a loose bun and secure the hair with bobby pins

- repeat on the other side

Braided ponytails

STEP 1.

- part your hair down the middle, in two equal parts

- clip in your pink highlights at the front, close to the parting

- start braiding your hair including the pink clip-in, making sure that the highlight is on top of your braid for the effect

- after you finish braiding, secure the ends with an elastic band

- repeat it on the other side of your hair exactly the same

STEP 2.

- take 2 ponytail extensions - like Irresistible Me’s new curly ponies

- attach the ponytail around the end of each braid, securing it with the textile bands

- select a strand of hair and wrap it around the base of each pony to cover the fabric base

Half up with bubble braids

STEP 1.

- create more volume by curling the hair in a nice beach wave or loose curl

- put the top part of your hair up in a ponytail and clip in a volumizing weft on the bottom half to get more hair for the half up, half down style

STEP 2.

- clip in the pink highlights at the front of your head, leaving some of your own hair on top to cover the clips

- start making the bubble braid by taking a medium amount of hair and tying it with an elastic band every 2-3 inches

- after putting in all the elastic ties, pull your hair above each band to create a bubble effect

STEP 3.

- add a clip in ponytail to the one you created at step 1 and cover the textile band with a strand of hair

- after the ponytail is added, braid it and twist the hair in a bun to create a top knot, and secure it in place with bobby pins

TELL US ABOUT THE AUDREY ROSE INSTITUTE. Well, I have always had a passion for education and training. I noticed that there was a gap in the market for practical, hands-on training in my field, so I decided to start my own training institute. I did a lot of research and planning before starting the institute, including identifying the target audience, creating course content, and finding experienced trainers to lead each course. I also invested in developing a user-friendly website and implementing a targeted marketing strategy to reach potential students. It was a lot of hard work, but seeing my vision come to life and helping individuals achieve their career goals through our training programs has been incredibly rewarding.

Jamaican born and raised ! Migrated to the United States when I was 15. I started in the ICU, got burned out and then fell in love with aesthetics medicine! When I was younger I wanted to be: a doctor and a cosmetologist and I’m not surprised I fell in love with aesthetic medicine.

MY FIRST JOB:

Was in a jewelry store in which I got fired, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me! This changed the trajectory of my entire life.

THE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS:

My husband, mother and children! They allow me to reset from a long day and get back out there to accomplish more.

MY DEFINITION OF SUCCESS IS:

Success to me is reaching a personal goal that I have set for myself. It could be anything from finishing a project, improving my skills, or achieving something that I once thought was impossible. Being successful isn’t always about reaching the end goal but also the journey and accomplishments I make along the way.

Jenny bought her first camera at the age of 41. With no photography experience, she began taking pictures of anything and everything in order to learn how to create the images she envisioned and bring them to life. When she was 47, she took a leap of faith and opened her photography business. Initially capturing natural light images, she began to incorporate on & off camera lighting. Jenny transformed her garage into a photography studio and that’s when she found her niche: portrait photography. Jenny has had her work published locally in her home state of West Virginia, as well as several national publications, including Gladys and First for Women Magazine. WHEN DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANTED TO BE AN ACTOR?

When I realized I could create my own alternate reality with my imagination, to escape the one I was served. I found out that as my alter ego, the character I played, I didn’t need to be afraid or shy. In fact I discovered my courage and self-confidence through Art and performance. We grew up together, Art and me, my best childhood friend!

Then later I found I would get paid to do what I loved doing. And could give back on a grand scale by entertaining people around the world right into their living room on the small screen.

For example CSI:Miami on which I was for 7 years was and still is seen literally all over the world and in the years we were filming , consistently ranked among the top 3 TV shows. My first series regular role was on CAFE AMERICAN a NBC sit com directed and co produced by comedy genius and multi Emmy winning director James Burrows from there on I was on a roll, I went from one show to another for a long time, which is why I never returned to Italy and became also a U.S. citizen some years ago.

WHAT MAKES YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT ACTING?

I love creating and love every Art form, from movies, to photography, music, painting, Fashion, food and of course performing on a set. It’s definitely one of my happy places. I love what I do! I love the opportunity to entertain and inspire through my performance and the story we’re telling.

I love creating with a group of like-minded people on a common beautiful goal. Bringing a story to life. During the pandemic when we were all pretty much homebound, it became very apparent, how incredibly important movies, TV shows and music was to keep us all company! I was so grateful to every artist myself for every movie and music that kept me company. I truly got to experience the importance and massive responsibility Art and artists have in this world. I am deeply honored to have the privilege to be part of it.

HOW DO YOU GIVE LIFE TO A CHARACTER?

After I read the script, understand it’s message and the purpose of my character, I let my imagination run. I do break it down, do any necessary research, study it and through empathy and affinity, I find and ultimately become the character. So I can experience the characters journey authentically in present time and go after goals that fuel the character and me between “action and cut”.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST CHERISHED ROLE?

Roles that challenged me and made me grow as a woman and as an actress. And Roles that created a greater impact worldwide. I’m grateful that I could be part of TV shows like CSI:Miami as detective Yelina Salas, or The Sopranos as Neapolitan lady boss Annalisa Zucca, The Border, its homeland security special agent Bianca La Garda ,Friends, Curb your enthusiasm, Caroline in the city and so on, or movies that remain in history forever, as cult shows and a religious watch still for many now and in years to come probably.

IS THERE A ROLE THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO PLAY?

Sofia Loren’s role in “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” though her version is iconic and untouchable, I would cherish the opportunity to do my own take on it, just because I love it so much! A modern version and yet another remake of Lina Wertmullers “Swept Away”. Or turn the stage play Filumena into a movie; it was done over 60 years ago called “Divorce Italian Style”. Oriana Fallaci’s book “A MAN” would also make a wonderful movie and I would love to play that part. These are some wonderful strong powerful female roles. I love classic romantic comedies and inspiring dramatic roles with some humor the most. But truly there are many I can think of.

HOW IS A DAY IN SOFIA’S LIFE?

That depends if I’m shooting on a series, film or not. When I’m not waking up at 5 or 6am to go on set for 10-18 hours I definitely love to wake up later, starting with a gratitude meditation, or prayer and often refreshing my vows to my goals. Then after making my bed, and drinking about a liter of water, I like to workout. Whether it be Power yoga, Pilates or toning exercises, or some weight lifting and trampoline or a brisk walk on the beach or in my area. Whatever i have time for or is available, as long as I exercise. I love how it makes me feel. Everyday I spend time with my mom in Rome with some Face Time to keep her a little company, far away but always close and then always a healthy lunch as my first meal. I mayhave meetings, Business calls or do Self tapes or read scripts, interviews, photo shoots, time permitting I read from a book or, listen to interesting podcasts that I can learn from, study or do a seminar etc.

On a busy day I may not stop until it’s time to eat dinner or way past it until I go to sleep. Unless I go to a fabulous Italian dinner with my friends, or perhaps go to a red carpet event or movies with friends. Walking on the beach in good company is probably my favorite thing to do when I’m not filming.

IS ONE ADVICE FOR ANYONE PURSUING AN ACTING CAREER?

WHAT

If you’re in it for the wrong reasons, like fame or significance, you won’t last through all the ups and downs. But If you love being an actor for the right reason: Don’t give up, believe in Yourself, persist with integrity and faith, know your qualities that make you unique, study , perfect them , know your casting. You can’t be ignored for ever, be diligent, be a professional, perform anywhere that you can , until you succeed. The only failure is to give up.

WHAT ARE TWO RULES TO LIVE BY ACCORDING TO SOFIA MILOS?

1) Aim for your goal; don’t make obstacles your destination.

I Love Hortus NYC in the Spring Time

Being that the name of this restaurant is Hortus NYC which is Latin for garden; the atmosphere beckons all things freshness as the theme of a beautiful garden runs throughout the interior. Enter this treasure of a dining spot located in the NoMad section of New York City, and walk down the entry ramp, allowing the fragrance of the foods and the strains of jazzy music to guide and beckon you.

Divided into four separate spaces, the first floor hosts bar style dining, complete with an open kitchen and a Chef’s Table to emphasize the experience. Ascend to the second floor which has an adjoining outdoor dining room; a hidden garden space with propane heat lamps and glowing lights hanging from the ceiling, exuding a warm and intimate vibe. The main dining room features a full wall of windows allowing perfect glimpses of the city that never sleeps, as vibrant by night as it is by day.

And oh the cuisine---

Hortus NYC is a Michelin-recognized contemporary Asian restaurant where managing partner Suhum Jang (of Per Se, Daniel and Jungsik fame) and Executive Chef SangMin “Lenny” Moon (of Jungsik, Barn Joo and Pado fame) have collaborated on this creative menu, culminating into a true reflection of Chef Moon’s signature style.

Highlighting the distinct flavors of Japan, Korea, China and Southeast Asia, each dish is both delicious and esthetically pleasing, the cuisine at Hortus blending in a perfect fusion, flavors which makes for fresh modern Asian fare. Executive Chef Lenny clearly accentuates unique spices from the Pacific Islands, China and some Italian influence and accents, also making sure to include vegan and vegetarian options.

The appetizers at Hortus NYC are so palate pleasing that the challenge becomes saving room for the main courses—also the delectable deserts. The Papaya Salad for example, served with a bounty of succulent shrimp, persimmon and a lemongrass dressing, is perfect for this season; any season actually. If seafood is your favorite, an addition to the raw bar is the Royal Platter: a perfectly chilled lobster tail, salmon crudo, shrimp

cocktail with an option to include a dozen oysters, all presented in royal fashion thus living up to its name, complete with a hibiscus blossom atop, a vibrant nod to the season. The King Crab Noodle with onion jalapeno pesto, tomato, lemon oil and mala sauce is a no fail hit, an exotic spin on comfort food. The Crispy Rice dish topped with spicy tuna, quinoa, and sriracha truffles has become a signature dish for good reason; its flavors and textures merge to tantalize the senses.

Hortus NYC’s main courses satisfy all palates and include Confit Duck Leg with a smooth coconut puree and soy, Sea Urchin Donabe made of nori puree, cured egg yolk, ikura and black truffles and other choices. For the diehard carnivore, the Spicy Braised Short Rib is tender and flavorful. Cocktails here are inventive and fresh such as the Oolong High with oolong tea, soju, lemon and cane sugar; and 5th Ave with Jinro 24, Hwayo 23, tonic, mint, and lime. Hortus NYC’s wine program offers select bottles of fine sparkling wines and champagne, red and white wines from France, Italy, New Zealand and the U.S. Japanese craft beer such as Pale Ale Kanazawa, Junmai ginjo and Junmai sake by the glass, unfiltered rice wine and other choice drinks offer perfect pairings.

Desserts include Monaka Ice Cream; an ice cream sandwich with chocolate mochi and choices of black sesame, matcha or vanilla ice cream or for a fruity and creamy treat, the Yuzu Panna Cotta with raspberry and a butter crumble satisfies.

WHEN DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANTED TO BE A DESIGNER?

As a child, I discovered my love for design through my passion for creating new outfits and clothes for my dolls. Even at a young age, I enjoyed experimenting with different combinations of colors, patterns, and details to create unique and personalized pieces.

As I grew older, my passion for design continued to blossom, and I started to explore new avenues for my creativity. I remember the first time I altered a shirt my mother had bought, transforming it into a more stylish and creative piece. From that moment on, I knew that design was my true calling.

Today, as a professional designer, I take great pride in creating custom dresses and ready-to-wear looks that are as unique and special as the individuals who wear them. With every design, I strive to capture my client’s personality and style, infusing it with my own creativity and vision.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CREATING A CUSTOM DESIGN?

For me, fashion is not just about following trends or adhering to certain styles; it’s about creating something that is truly one-of-a-kind. When my clients wear a custom dress from Anahit Fashiondrug, they are not just wearing a piece of clothing - they are making a statement. They are showing the world that they are unique and iconic, and that they are not afraid to stand out from the crowd. TELL US ABOUT YOU AND HOW WAS THE CREATION OF DE MARQUET HANDBAGS? The Night & Day handbag was my first and actually the one I designed to solve a problem I was often coming across. I was managing a communication agency and therefore travelling a lot for short business meetings with clients. I always travelled with hand luggage in order to be quick, but there was no way I could fit 2-3 bags in my small suitcase, and yet, I needed to because I had to go from a business meeting to a dinner or a cocktail event. That’s when I thought that if I could switch the covers of my bag I would have more bags out of one and solve my styling problem. So I designed the Night & Day bag with its minimalistic base design and the interchangeable covers which transform my bag according to my needs and occasions. A practical yet beautiful solution which is so unique that I was able to put it under worldwide design protection.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN DESIGNING? The idea that everyone is looking for the special thing that makes them stand out and shine. With the Night & Day bags every combination is one’s own and enhances one’s outfit.

WHERE DOES THE NAME DE MARQUET COME FROM? It’s the name of my great-grandmother who was a noble Viennese. The name has French origins, because the Viennese nobility also had roots in France. De Marquet is a name that is very dear to me and I believe it represents values like tradition, style, longevity.

WHO IS THE DE MARQUET WOMAN? A modern woman whose day is full to the brim with activities: getting from work to a school talk with her child’s teacher, from a social project’s meeting to a cocktail with friends. And all that in 24 hours.

WHO ARE YOUR FASHION ICONS? To me, fashion is not only what you can see from outside but it’s an attitude. I am very inspired by sisterhood, and by the idea that women should empower each other. There are of course plenty of women in fashion who have this wonderful attitude, but just to name a few I would say Jennifer Aniston, Zendaya, Cher, Miley Cyrus, Zoe Saldana. NOW THAT YOU LAUNCHED IN THE US DO YOU SEE ANY DIFFERENCE FROM THE EUROPEAN MARKET? We just started in the US so it’s difficult to say, but what I love about American women is the positive attitude they have towards women who dare to launch something new, the enthusiasm when something is not only beautiful but also practical, and last but not least their great love about everything colorful and Italian.

WHAT

ARE YOUR TIPS FOR PACKING WHEN TRAVELING?

Funny enough, I always start with the shoes. What shoes will I be wearing considering the activities that are planned and the weather forecast? And based on those choices, I build upwards on basics that can be mixed and matched together and layered as well. A few multifunctional items like the blazer that can be worn as a dress are sometimes lifesaving. Finally, the icing on the cake are great accessories which give every outfit the extra twist.

FIRST JOB:

My first job was Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story. I played Patricia Parkinson - the bully who inspired Pansy Parkinson in the Harry Potter series. I got to talk in a British accent and pretend to understand fractions, which was very fun. It sort of feels like an omen of where my career would take me; I started out telling the story behind one of the most famous fantasy series in the world, and now I’m releasing my own debut fantasy novel.

CURRENTLY WORKING ON:

I’m currently working on my debut novel, Stars & Swashbucklers, which was just released! It’s set in a futuristic fantasy world where earth has shattered into thousands of islands, and people sail the stars like they used to sail the sea. Our heroine, Anya Marcox, is desperate to be a privateer . . . and she’ll risk just about anything to make that dream come true. I’m also filming the second Monster High live action movie; it’s so fun to turn into a zombie again!

THE PERSON I AM DYING TO WORK WITH IS…

I cannot not mention Audrey Hepburn. She is one of my biggest sources of inspiration. She moved through both her movies and the world at large with incredible grace and kindness. But I realize this is probably pertaining to the land of the living, so in that case it’s Viola Davis. Every scene she’s in carries nuance and depth, regardless of how small it seems on the surface. Just watching her on screen feels like a master class - I can’t even imagine how much I would learn from being her scene partner.

IF I HAD TO LIVE IN A WORLD FROM A MOVIE OR TV SHOW, I WOULD CHOOSE… I would choose Spiderwick. I’m enchanted by the world Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi created in Spiderwick; it’s a faerie land with teeth.

THE PERSON I’VE BEEN MOST STARSTRUCK BY IS… Bob Odenkirk. I got to work on his new show Lucky Hank, which felt surreal.

3 THINGS OR PEOPLE I LOVE ARE:

1. My dog, The Little Prince. He’s the sweetest little yorkie you’ll ever meet.

2. Sailing. I learned to sail because my book is about privateers, so I needed at least some basic knowledge about how boats worked.

IF I WEREN’T AN ACTRESS, I’D BE…

I’d be a full-time writer. I always knew I wanted to write books, but I sort of just planned to do it when I was older. Then I had the dream that inspired Stars & Swashbucklers, and kept having so many stories in that world unfold in my mind, that I realized I had to start now or I would never finish

3. Ballet. I started dance because I worked with Wim Wenders. I wanted to prepare before working with such an esteemed filmmaker, so I watched his film Pina, about the legendary choreographer Pina Bausch. Immediately, I knew I wanted to be a dancer.

Hawa is currently streaming on Amazon Prime in addition, I am also working on projects with AppleTV, Disney Jr., and Netflix.

FIRST PROFESSIONAL ACTING JOB:

My first professional acting job was a series of AT&T ‘It’s Not Complicated’ National Commercials which earned me my SAG Card within 30 days of signing with my first agent. Then came along my first short film ‘Bristol Place’ which dealt with domestic violence followed by my first feature film ‘A Happening of Monumental Proportions’ . It was such a pleasure working alongside Common, Storm Reid, Keanu Reeves, Allison Janney and the entire cast and crew. My first television role was a small part in the pilot Good Girls and my first major voice-over role was a small part in the Oscar Winning Animated Film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

IF I WEREN’T AN ACTRESS I WOULD BE: I have volunteered and worked with children younger than me since around the age of 9 and I truly enjoy it. Therefore, if I weren’t an actress I’d probably be doing the same thing as I’m doing today: multiple things working with children. But instead of volunteering 100% of the time I would have my own business that caters to children.

THE ACTORS I WOULD LOVE TO WORK WITH IS: I’m always dreaming of working with Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds.

IF I HAD TO LIVE IN A WORLD FROM A MOVIE OR TV SHOW, I WOULD CHOOSE: My favorite tv world would be the Umbrella Academy and my favorite movie world would be the MCU.

THE PERSON I’VE BEEN MOST STARSTRUCK BY IS: John Stamos. As you may or may not know, I decided to become an actress after watching an episode of Full House when I was around 6 years old. This last December when I walked out of the booth from finishing up a voice over job, John Stamos was standing there, I ran the opposite direction and started crying with excitement. Once I gained my composer I went back and spoke with him. He was the nicest person ever. The most exciting part of meeting him was taking selfies around the studio with him.

Derek Hough! Every day, I train very hard for world championships in Ballroom and Latin. One day at the studio, he showed up, and I was just at a loss for words! I grew up watching Dancing with the Stars, so I was surprised. I was stressing out, but he was very welcoming! I won’t forget that rare moment!

3 THINGS OR PEOPLE I LOVE ARE:

When I’m at the studio, sometimes I have to leave early to go to another set for another project. But sometimes, I find the time to stay on set and enjoy the moment! I was in a skit with Mr. Rami Malek, and I remember I loved watching him perform. It’s just an amazing way to learn from other actors!

My favorite person is my dance coach Ms. Shirley Ballas, the Queen of Latin! I love both dancing and acting, but every time I’m practicing with her, I feel like she’s teaching me to love dancing all over again. She’s my inspiration and I love her so much!

My parents! I had a lot of fun at the MovieGuide Awards ceremony this year, and I felt very blessed to present the Best Family TV award. That got me thinking about my family. They take care of me at all of my auditions and dance world championships. I just love them!

FIRST JOB:

I wasn’t allowed to work in high school! My parents would always tell us our job was to be kids, get good grades, and get a scholarship in our sports that we were passionate about. Other than little family house chores, the first time I did a paid gig it was for a friend from highschool who was a professional photographer that used to take pictures with me for fun all the time, but actually got me a modeling part in this company’s skin care brand. That was my freshman year of college!!

IF I WEREN’T AN ACTRESS I WOULD BE:

Before I had the courage to go for my dreams, I had the safety net plan of going to a four-year college in Cali, majorING in kinesiology, study sports medicine, then go in to join the Navy like my parents and become a physical therapist in the Navy or open my own practice. I was super into sports but I’ve had a lot of injuries. So, I thought this would be a cool way to stay in the space since I enjoyed it in high school. I can’t even imagine doing that now though lol. That was the safe route while I pursued what I wanted to, and as soon as I had the chance to break away and completely focus on my desires, I did not waste a second and I jumped. It was also right after I turned 18, so it was like a “my parents technically can’t be mad about this because I’m an adult” moment but we all know, haha.

THE ACTORS I WOULD LOVE TO WORK WITH IS:

I dream of doing a project with a bunch of my acting friends one day!! As for actors in the space now: Zendaya, Marsai Martin, Gabrielle Union, Angela Bassett, Taraji P Henson, and Will Smith.

IF I HAD TO LIVE IN A WORLD FROM A MOVIE OR TV SHOW, I WOULD CHOOSE:

Avatar, or the Avatar the Last Airbender, or the MCU universe in the ShangChi movie because of the forest and water environments they created in the film. I would choose a world of enchantment. Maybe a little bit of Harry Potter. Truthfully any world that has magic that is more evident on a daily basis. It would be so cool to experience. Mermaids and spells and flying!

THE PERSON I’VE BEEN MOST STARSTRUCK BY IS:

I don’t think I have met anyone that I would be weak in the knees starstruck for haha. Some people I know that I would freak out about though is Rihanna, Beyonce, Naomi Campbell, Taraji, Nicki Minaj, Ciara, and Christina Milan

3 THINGS I LOVE ARE:

Being in the sun. I could literally be standing in one random area for 15 minutes just to feel the sun for a bit. I have this perfect spot in my house that gets direct sunlight from my balcony every day for two hours and it makes life worth it.

The sky at night! I see shooting stars all the time and I love to look for the constellations and honestly just zone out into the moon. When I’m on my rooftop or on a cruise I find the moon and just sit there and look up for a while and it just puts things into perspective a bit.

Ooooo smoothies I loooooove smoothies. I can drink them all day. I love making them myself —I think I make them best. But I don’t always have the time or energy, so I buy them a lot too! I had to create a monthly smoothie budget because I was doing too much.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES:

I start with an immense amount of coffee to survive. I’m big on journaling, so I try to carve out time for that in the morning. I used to love to sleep in, but as I’ve gotten older I really started to appreciate the calmness of the morning. Working out is an important part of my day, even if it’s a walk! Then, depending on the day or what’s going on in the news, I will work on an impression or a character. And for the last year it’s been all about working on my show! Lots of writing with my director, Lauren Burns, and tons of rehearsing. I break up the day with a walk to get another coffee so I can keep surviving. I have two dogs that treat me like their boss, so I spend a good chunk of the day tending to their needs. Before bed I always meditate, so I can get a grip on all of my millennial anxiety!

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I WANTED TO BE:

I’ve always wanted to be an actor. For as long as I can remember I’ve loved performing. As a kid I’d put on the most extravagant costumes and have my mom film me singing or playing different characters. The funny thing to me is that I still do the same thing, I just don’t have my mom film me!

MY FIRST JOB WAS: My first job was in retail at Abercrombie at the Florida Mall. I worked there with all of my friends. We made no money and spent all the money we did make on clothes from Abercrombie...and Auntie Anne’s pretzels.

THE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS:

It’s so hard to single out one specific person! There are so many. I’m surrounded by people that have really motivated me to take big swings and try different things. My parents taught me that if you want it, you have to go for it and you can’t give up. It’s also motivating to collaborate with your peers in comedy. There is so much talent out there, and to watch others work hard makes you want to work hard!

MY DEFINITION OF SUCCESS IS: Getting the opportunity to do what you love. I don’t have that TV series yet, but I write my own content, put on wigs, and get to make people laugh! In this industry, I feel like we are all reaching for that end goal, but we should really be celebrating all of the wins along the way. Putting yourself out there and creating your own path IS success!

YOUR LATEST PROJECT IS: My one woman show “Doing Alright” - Bad with money, great with a spray gun. I take you on a journey of how my rock bottom led me to take a job as a spray tanner...and it became the very thing that saved my life. I not only take the audience on a journey through my compulsive shopping, divorce and debt, but I also do impressions and characters of some of the eccentric clients I’ve met. It’s a wild ride through the world of spray tanning and my life. I opened for a sold out show at The Groundlings in January, and another one on February 20th, with more dates in May.

YOUR DREAM PROJECT IS: To take this show to other cities and turn it into a TV series!!

My mom, as an immigrant who fled to the United States during the civil war in El Salvador, is a reminder of what it means to never quit in the face of adversity. MY DEFINITION OF SUCCESS IS: Finding inner peace no matter where you’re at in career… also being able to pay them bills though.

I block time to focus on auditions as they come in, two acting lessons a week and try to never miss a workout. You can usually find me at the gym in the evenings playing pickleball and end each day with a cold plunge.

MY FIRST JOB WAS: TThe Broadway Tour for “School of Rock,” I worked on this show for a year, touring the U.S. and Canada in 2018-19.

THE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS: I am so fortunate to have a very tight group of actor friends who motivate, inspire and support me through the ups and downs. YOUR LATEST PROJECT IS: I am currently in the final stages of securing funding to shoot my Feature Film The ListeningThe Listening is a feature film horror script I completed during quarantine here in Los Angeles. Among other recognition, “TheListening” script has been selected as a semi-finalist at both New York Cinematography Awards (NYCA) and the Fantastic Indie Festival of Los Angeles. I won a Young Entertainer Award for Best Young Writer. As this was my first try at writing a script, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the positive reception I’ve received. In the past few months we were able to shoot the trailer with a phenomenal cast Kash Hovey (On Air with Ka$h), Emmy Award Winner Kira Reed Lorsch (The Bay Series), Samantha Bailey (The Young and the Restless), Lance Alexander (Netflix’s Family Reunion), Gloria Garayua (How to Get Away with Murder), and myself bringing a small piece of the story to life. Gary Robinson directed the trailer that we screened at the Kash Hovey And Friends block At Film Fest LA At LA Live. It was an honor to win Best Trailer for a project I feel so passionate about bringing to the screen.

YOUR BIGGEST ASPIRATION: My dream project would be to star in a Transformers film. The original live action film is one of my favorite movies. It’s the first movie I remember seeing in the movie theater and watching that larger than life story unfold on-screen is something I would love to be a part of.

Waking up at the crack of noon and stumbling over to my coffee maker where, along the way, I crash into several pieces of furniture. Then I spend a few hours writing and that evening, during the lucky months, also performing. Finally, at midnight, I watch an entire movie before reluctantly going to sleep.

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I WANTED TO BE:

A magician and world-renowned soprano.

MY FIRST JOB WAS: A commercial for Halls cough drops that was protested for being too sexually explicit. That’s a true story!

THE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS: My writing partner Wesley Taylor and my producing partner Cody Lassen. Also, my collection of scented candles.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES... I have to start the day with a quick meditation. It keeps me grounded and calm in a hectic schedule. Then I find myself a great big green juice with plant protein. I love talking to my friends and family from home in Brooklyn via Marco Polo. I work on my play and then catch up on my favorite shows. Right now, I’m finally finishing The Walking Dead featuring my fellow Howard University Bison, Michael James Shaw!

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I WANTED TO BE: An actor. It has been my dream since I was seven years old. I have moments of disbelief and gratitude all the time that I actually made it happen!

MY FIRST JOB WAS: It was probably babysitting the cute little girl down the block. I’ve always loved children.

THE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS: My mother, Michele Walker. What she has been able to build and create, mostly on her own, is very inspiring to me and I’m constantly trying to rise to beat it.

MY DEFINITION OF SUCCESS IS: Success to me means forward movement. Things will always change, obstacles will always arise but evolving through them is my only goal. Meeting each challenge better than you handled the last feels like success.

YOUR LATEST PROJECT IS: I’m currently playing Tina Turner in the first national tour of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. You can also see me in the Netflix film Murder Mystery 2 alongside Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, and Jodie Turner-Smith.

YOUR DREAM PROJECT IS: To be part of a completely collaborative project that highlights the truth and joy of the human and black female experience.

Exclusive Interview with Narine Mezhlumyan from Seven Seas Gourmet

I love Caviar! Any time, any day, anywhere! It’s something that gives warmth to my heart and makes me feel happy and alive. I feel it’s so magical! So when I met Narine the owner of Seven Seas Gourmet, I was captivated by her elegance, fashion style and her personality. I had so many questions, all at once and I just wanted to know everything and share all of this knowledge through this exclusive interview. Please Enjoy!

WHAT IS SEVEN SEAS GOURMET?

Seven Seas Gourmet Foods are boutiques where you can find exquisite products from all over the world: a variety of cheeses, exclusive meats, Jamon from Spain, truffle products, teas from England, pastas from Dolce & Gabbana etc. One of the distinctive products, which makes us especially proud of is the smoked fish from our Smokehouse located in North Hollywood. But our main and star product is of course the Seven Seas caviar! Despite all the pomp and fanciness of boutiques, we have tried to create a very pleasant and friendly environment where the customer feels comfortable and the prices have been made affordable, where every customer can find a product affordable for their budget.

HOW DID IT START?

Seven Seas Smokehouse was established in 2000. It was a very successful project. Our products quickly gained the trust and love of our customers, as we do not use any preservatives in our production. Seven Seas products could be found in many Russian and Armenian markets and in John’s supermarkets.

In 2016, the first Seven Seas Gourmet Foods store opened in Glendale. It quickly began to gain popularity as Seven Seas, was already famous for its quality and affordable price and then we started to sell caviar. We tried the caviar of different local companies, but eventually decided that we would only sell caviar of our brand. We were considering different suppliers for a long time and only after making sure of the highest quality of the product; the Seven Seas Caviar brand was born. We cooperate with the largest aqua farms from around the world. We are one of the few on the market who offers complimentary sampling.

The customer can try different types of caviar absolutely free of charge before buying. In 2021 we opened our second location in Studio City. It is a very nice store with a large space. So we are working on a brunch menu and planing to add a small tasting menu for our customers. One of the main and distinctive features of Seven Seas is the highest quality and affordable price.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CAVIARS?

There are six main types of caviar, each with their own color, flavor, and sometimes even texture and size.

BELUGA CAVIAR - Beluga caviar is the rarest and most sought-after type of caviar. Beluga caviar comes from the Beluga sturgeon, which swims in the unpolluted waters. Extraordinarily priced for quality, Beluga Sturgeon caviar will take your dining experience to new pleasurable heights.

KALUGA CAVIAR - You don’t need to be a caviar expert to realize that Kaluga is big, bold, and most of all: rich. It does have some unique hues that you won’t find elsewhere. Its main color is a glossy grey, but you will find flecks of dark brown and even olive green. And when it comes to the flavor, expect a very buttery and earthy taste with just a hint of salt.

SIBERIAN STURGEON CAVIAR - Siberian sturgeon caviar is prized for its glossy dark caviar, earthy with hints of sweetness and a fabulous buttery texture.

RUSSIAN STURGEON CAVIAR - Russian Sturgeon also known as Russian Osetra comes from Caspian Sea population. Russian Sturgeon caviar is one of the rarest and most expensive sturgeon caviars available on the USA market. Its color may also vary from light green to dark green and to blackish to ashy color. Russian Sturgeon has rich buttery nutty taste.

WHITE STURGEON CAVIAR- White sturgeon caviar’s striking dark-hued, large grains have gained recognition worldwide. The attractive glossy grains and their innate transparency are only surpassed by the caviar’s superior flavors of smoked nuts with a lingering finish.

As a mom of 2 stores and 3 kids it’s very busy. I start my day at 6:00 am, I swim every morning then I take the kids to school and go to work. I am trying to visit one location a day. I have the best staff that helps me control every thing on the phone even if I am not there. But it wasn’t always like that. I used to work every day with no days off. It helped me to improve the management, customer service, inventory, and staff knowledge and product quality. And now that the kids are teenagers and the stores are doing well, I am spending more time with my family. During the holidays when it is the busiest my kids are involved too. They go to the warehouse with my husband every morning from 6 am to 6 pm and work there. And of course they get paid:)

PADDLEFISH ROE - Paddlefish roe is a type of roe that is harvested from North American paddlefish. Paddlefish is a popular type of roe because it bears a very close resemblance to the prized Sevruga caviar but at an incomparable fraction of the cost. Salmon roe are the eggs found in a salmon fish. The nutrient-rich oceans where salmon grow reflect in the healthy, enormous size of their eggs, resulting in salmon roe’s firm outer lining and velvety interior that easily bursts under pressure.

WHICH ONE IS YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF CAVIAR AND WHY? My favorite caviar is the Imperial Russian sturgeon caviar. This is perfection! Butter and brine are perfectly balanced in this caviar with a mild creamy finish. One of our best caviars and for a good reason.
