It’s Coming Up Fast... The Woomera 70th Reunion is fast approaching, and the organising committee is seeking help from the local community in preparing for and coordinating the event. Logo design: Russell Squire.
Today marks officially 4 weeks until the Woomera 70th Reunion, being held this Easter long weekend, and we need your help... With over 400 registrations received from the reunion website, the weekend promises to be a big one, with some attendees returning from as far abroad as the US and even Mexico. This of course means that activities need to be arranged to occupy those coming back to town for the long weekend. All events that have been arranged for the long weekend so far are open to current residents to attend and participate in as well as the returnees, in order to facilitate opening up a dialogue between the Woomera of old
and the Woomera of today. With the event looming, help is needed to prepare photo displays around the village, as well as for people to man the reunion’s Reception Centre, located within the Theatre, for brief 2 hour shifts over the weekend. All required assistance will be provided to ensure that your ‘shift ’ runs smoothly. Anyone who is ready, willing and able to assist with preparations for the event, or to assist in coordinating the weekend, is urged to contact Brad at woomeraboard@bigpond.com ASAP. Any and all assistance given will be greatly appreciated, with a thank-you activity to be arranged for those that volunteer their time and services.

Warm summer conditions greeted the players for last Sunday’s golfing, with the preferred event being an 11-hole stableford event playing the front nine and holes 11 & 18. Winner of the day was Justin Allchurch with 23 points, runner-up accolades went to Greg Budden with 22 points and Claude Walter took out third spot with 20 points, defeating Dave Cranston who also finished with 20 points. The NAGA award this week went to Greg Hill with a well-compiled 13 points. Novelty award for long drive on hole three went to Greg Budden and nearest-to-pin on hole five wasn’t
won. Hole nine was drawn from the birdie’s nest and with no birds on this hole, the nest will prosper once again. The Golf Club bar is open from 10.30am on Sundays, serving ice-cold refreshments and the best pastries in town -- the Golfie’s the place to be! Golf this Sunday will be an eleven hole event, with the format to be decided on the day. Tee-off time is 8am, all are welcome and clubs are available free of charge, if required. Well, that’s all the jibber for this week, so until next week I’ll see you in the bunker or the 19th and remember: winners are grinners!
WOOMERA DARTS LEAGUE Congratulations to Kieran Budden and Joe Blatchford, winners of the Mystery Doubles Darts Competition last Wednesday night. Last year’s Men’s champion and Women’s champion were teamed up for the warm-up tournament and showed the rest of the field how they earned those titles, beating the runner-up team of Aidan Harris and Kris Strawbridge. Next week will see the return of the darts scoresheet to 17 March 2017
the Gibber Gabber, so keep watching for that. Best of luck to all teams and players in this year’s league.
