Last weeks T20 Team
T20 Cricket REDBACKS VS HORNRIDGE Cricket came to town for the second consecutive week, with the Woomera Redbacks hosting Hornridge in round two of the Roxby traders twenty 20 shield. There was a buzz amongst the Woomera side with a couple of handy inclusions to the team, with that buzz only growing as Woomera had Hornridge 8 for 82 at the conclusion of their innings. This was due in large part to some very tidy bowling and 3 wickets each to Tye Mcivor and Matt Gulin. Unfortunately, the buzz dissipated with Woomera suffering a mini-collapse thanks to some smart bowling and excellent fielding from Hornridge. A short cameo innings from Ben Richardson wasn’t enough to propel the home side to victory, falling 38 runs short to be bowled out for 44.
COME JOIN US AT SPORTIES ON SATURDAY FOR WOOMERA’S FINAL HOME GAME FOR THE SEASON This weekend the Redbacks attention turns to East Roxby on Saturday night at 7 pm in what should be a close encounter. This weekend will be Woomera’s final home game for the season, and on Wednesday the 24th of October Woomera travel to Roxby Downs to face Roxby Districts Miners in the last game for the year. See details of the game inside on page 4.

This year we want to celebrate our local artist in Woomera and surrounds. We ask artists around the area to share their work by sending a picture along with a short description to gibber.gabber@bigpond.com. The deadline for submissions is the Wednesday 24th October, midday.
Art has been an important part of the human experience for time out of mind, the first records of the world are not written in books, but are captured in paintings, sculptures, and music that helps to paint a picture of world lost to the past. Whether it’s revealing a style of dress worn in a period by the clothing worn in the painting, or the slight heresy’s hidden in some of the worlds most religious works, art can reveal a hidden or lost side of us to the present. International Artists Day honors those creative souls that will leave a record of today for the future that can’t be captured in history books. The anguish and joy of the human soul is portrayed through the haunting tones of a melody, the violence and fury caught in a photograph, or the serene gaze of a statue staring off into eternity.
History of International Artist Day International Artist Day was founded by Chris MacClure, a Canadian artist who specializes in the style known as ‘Romantic Realism’. His paintings were a way to bring out his own “Romantic Realist” views on life, and have served to make him one of Canada’s most important artists. He created this day to bring recognition to the world of art, and to celebrate all the ways that artists bring their own special view to life.
How to Celebrate International Artist Day The best way to celebrate International Artist Day is to support and celebrate your local artists. Most communities have a local art community that encompass the unique personality of both the community they live in, and the personality of that artist. If you’ve been looking for something to spruce up your living room or bedroom, then head out and find a unique piece that will bring life and personality to your home. International Artist Day is a great time to celebrate existing artists, and the artist that exists within all of us.

Defence Fire-fighters visit the school At the end of last term Defence kindly agreed to showcase one of their new fire-fighting vehicles to our school students. The students were able to get up close to the vehicles and learnt about what it takes to be a fire fighter for Defence. As an added bonus the secondary students were provided with valuable information about a career option they would not otherwise have access to. Thank you Squadron Leader Darren Prior for your support in the school.

WOOMERA THRIFT STORE The Woomera Thrift Store is once again looking for donations.
We would love to have more of the following: games, puzzles, kitchen items (pots and pans and bakeware etc), manchester, DVD’s, audio books The team would like to thank the Woomera community for their contributions as they are greatly appreciated though please remember that all goods should be received in a clean and usable state. We are also looking for more volunteers. If you could give a few hours on a Saturday morning here and there, we would love to hear from you.
Valentine’s Day cards for the troops Combat Cards is a project run by volunteers in each state. These lovely people collect donations of handmade cards and send them out to Australian armed forces serving overseas, where they generally don’t have access to cards for their family and friends back home. We’ve missed the Christmas card cut-off but they’ve asked if we could make Valentine’s Day cards instead. I have some paper and materials that I’m happy to donate, but if you have things that you want to bring that would be appreciated as well. Please bring your Trimmers and adhesives with you, if you have them. You can use any style of embellishments and techniques with one exception... NO GLITTER of any kind. Little flakes of glitter easily get left on clothes and skin and apparently they show up very brightly with night-vision goggles. We don’t want our cards to make targets of our people overseas!
