MARQUIS HILL M NEW GOSPEL REVISITED
arquis Hill is a stunningly gifted trumpeter, composer and bandleader with a soulful, highly textured tone. His sound is somehow both deeply distinctive and a tour through jazz trumpet history. Performing alongside him will be Damion Reid, drummer; Junius Paul, bassist; Joel Ross, vibraphonist; and Jahari Stampley, pianist. Since winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trumpet Competition in 2014, Hill has garnered glowing coverage in outlets like The New Yorker, The New York Times, JazzTimes, NPR Music and DownBeat. The internationally renowned musician has guest performed with a who’s who list of jazz musicians — Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Boney James and more. On acclaimed albums like his latest, “Modern Flows Vol. II,” and his 2016 breakout project, “The Way We Play,” Hill and his working band, the Blacktet, use their next-level musicianship and deeply interactive dynamic to break down the barriers separating bop, hip-hop, R&B and electronic music.
