FESTIVAL HEADLINER GEORGE
The Reno Jazz Festival is thrilled to announce GEORGE as the 2024 headliner. The group features four individual “earthworkers,” as the derivation of the moniker implies, who excavate and create intense and intriguing music, the sound of which defies categories and labels.
The visionary behind the quartet, John Hollenbeck, is an award-winning, genrecrossing composer-percussionist, renowned in the jazz and new music worlds. Anna Webber, the 2021 Berlin Prize Fellow, is a flutist, saxophonist and composer whose interests and work lie between avant garde Wjazz and new classical music. Aurora Nealand is most recognized for her performance on saxophones, clarinet and vocals and has been at the forefront of the revival of traditional jazz in New Orleans with her band, The Royal Roses. Canada-based Chiquita Magic specializes in futuristic electro pop, achieved with microtonal synths, drum machines and her voice.

These stellar musical artists joined forces during COVID, and “the result is a wholeness or cohesion which is undeniable, despite the variety of backgrounds,” wrote Platinummind.net. GEORGE first recorded a proof of concept of the same name in 2021 and followed with "Letters to George," released in January 2023.
