WHAT IS HOMICIDE Homicide occurs when one human being causes the death of another. Homicides can be divided into many overlapping types depending on the circumstances of the death that includes: ● ● ● ● ● ●

WHAT IS SEXUAL BATTERY OFFENSE Sexual battery is a criminal offense involving the unlawful physical acting upon a threat, distinct from assault which is the act of creating apprehension of such contact. Sexual battery include: ● ● ● ● ●

Patting a person’s buttocks Grabbing or fondling a woman’s breast Touching the victim’s genital area Forcing the victim to touch an intimate part of the offender’s body Even forcing a kiss on the mouth


CHILD MOLESTATION OFFENSE Child molestation or Child sexual abuse is a form of child abuse in which an adult or older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation. Forms of child sexual abuse include: ● ● ● ●

Engaging in sexual activities with a child Indecent exposure Child grooming Using a child to produce child pornography


ARMED AND STRONG-ARM ROBBERY Strong arm robbery is a violent crime in which one individual robs another by force or intimidation or stealing something from a person using force or threats but without using a weapon. Use of any weapon when committing a robbery, even if only used to threaten, is considered armed robbery. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Using any physical force against the victim, such as striking or kicking Snatching the property away Threatening or coercing the victim Placing the victim in fear of serious and immediate bodily injury Robberies committed inside residences or home invasion robberies Carjackings Robberies committed against certain classes of people Robberies committed using deadly weapons, such as guns or knives


RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL BURGLARY OFFENSE Residential burglary and commercial burglary are two separate offenses. Residential burglary, the most common type, occurs when someone enters a home with the intent to steal. Commercial burglary is often charged when one enters a store with some item indicating an intent to steal something inside the store.


WHAT IS GANG RELATED VIOLENCE While any level of violence can harm children emotionally, gang-related violence is especially harmful because it may mean death or disability. Gang members engage in a higher level of serious and violent crime than their non-gang-involved peers.


WHAT IS KIDNAPPING OFFENSE Kidnapping is the abduction or unlawful transportation of a person, usually to hold the person against his or her will. This may be done for ransom or in furtherance of another crime, or in connection with a child custody dispute. Most kidnapping cases are prosecuted on the state level. Federal authorities will typically get involved and file federal charges if the kidnapping crosses state lines. ● ● ● ● ●
