Art & Education Center.
South Philadelphia Location:
Year:
Type: 2024 Community Center
The site is adjacent to a community garden and sits on a very narrow, oneway street. The design plays with the restrictions of neighboring rowhomes to allow for more sun in the garden and minimize shading. Extending the element of nature into the architecture. Create a space for education and culture through visual and performing arts. Emphasizing the contrast in spaces with the use of materials and acoustics
Site Analysis
This area of South Philadelphia consists of many minority groups living in a large food desert. Therefore, the neighborhood relies heavily on the community garden on the site.
Furthermore, the garden is focused on growing herbs and vegetables that ethnic groups wouldn’t be able to find in the rare grocery stores.
This element became a driver to the idea to represent and celebrate minority groups’ cultures.
Keeping the garden safe and creating architecture that can focus on preserving the community garden was important in the gentrifying neighborhood.
PERFORMANCE
ART STUDIO GALLERY
Space & Form
Matching Facades on the North and South sides of the Community Center becomes valuable to integrate the architecture into the intimate community.
3 main floors are created to seperate privacy but also function.
The first floor focuses on display. Hence hosting the Gallery and Performance Area as a way of inviting the individual.
The second floor contains of classrooms for the education of children and an art studio functiong as the main creative space for the gallery.
The third floor is a residential floor hosting artists who are creating for the gallery. This floor functions mainly as temporary housing.
The form for the architecture stays rectilinear to follow the context of the neighboring rowhomes. However, the roof above the performance space breaks the box and creates an accent of attention and mimizing shading on the garden.

North Philadelphia Location: Year: Type: 2024 Community Center
As Glendinning Rock Garden is adjacent to two growing neighborhoods, it associates with the characteristics of the community. Since the community is going through major changes, there is a need of a space for group congregation to be given the ability to share culture and traditions.
Finding Program & Form
(Left Page)
The community center is created as a compound, divided into 4 specific spaces. All pieces contribute to the holistic design of Cultural Identity.
The 4 spaces represent different traditions/elements that create a Cultural Identity:
1. Congregation
2. Education
3. Visual Arts
4. Performance Arts

Manipulating the landscape allows to raise the architecture from the side of the road and slow down the pedestrian to the center of the compound.

In my Architectural career, hand drawing has always been the strongest skill I portray. I have been trained in Fine Arts and Academic Drawing and continue to hone these skills. Most of my abilities to put concepts on paper, stems from my confidence when holding the pencil. This collection is a combination of academic drawings and sketches found in my sketchbook throughout the years.
I believe that hand drawing is the most efficient method of communicating and visualising concepts from your mind to another individual. My history with a pencil becomes my strongest aspect as a designer thus far.

Through my travels around the world, I have always been fascinated at details of ornimentation and sculpture. The composition of the photograph becomes crucial to frame a detail into attention.
The following is a small collection of photographs from European countries I visited, focused on composition and detail.
