THE LAST HELLO AND THE FINAL GOODBYE Some of you might have been here since the very beginning, others came along the way, and for a few, this might be your first Genki ever. One thing is the same for all of your reading this though: Come Sunday, this will all be over. The culmination of hundreds of people’s efforts over 10 years creating a convention that you’ve all come to love and enjoy. Our staff will go up on stage during the Ending Ceremony and say our goodbyes to you, our wonderful guests, but this time, there won’t be a “hope to see you next year!” Many of you may feel sad that Genki is ending; perhaps even frustrated or angry. Please don’t be. What made Genki great wasn’t the events, venues, or absolutely amazingly witty posts on social media; it was the connections you made with one another. So please don’t spend the last Genki feeling sad that it’s ending, but instead use it as an opportunity to make strong, lasting connections with friends disguised as strangers you just have yet to meet and to strengthen the connections you’ve already made. I was hoping my last introduction would be a bit longer, but since I seem to be at a loss for words, I’ll leave you with some words from Queen’s We are the Champions: I’ve taken my bows And my curtain calls You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it I thank you all

Sleep Hall Sleep Halls is only accessible to people with proper wristband. The cyan wristband provides access to the sleep Hall and convention area, whereas the magenta wristband only provides access to the convention area.

There will be marked areas where you can sleep; as we must have clear pathways for escape routes in case of fire, and also to make it easier for people to get around. Respect these markings. Leaving items in the Sleep Hall is at your own risk, so make sure to bring valuables with you when you leave. On Sunday, the last day of Genki, everyone must have vacated the Sleep Hall no later than 11:30! Not abiding by the Sleep Hall rules puts you at risk of losing your wristband, which will nullify your access to the convention. Sleeping halls are open: Friday 12:00 - Saturday 13:30 Saturday 16:00 - 17:00 Saturday 19:00 - Sunday 11:30 7

Health and Safety Greeting from the Security and Medic team. We are the teams of medics and security, who work tirelessly to ensure that you have an amazing convention in a secure environment. We can be found around the convention from Friday to Sunday, and are easily recognisable by the white staff shirts. Your eyes and ears are of great importance to us. If you ever find yourself - or witness someone - in a situation where you believe our assistance is needed, then never hesitate to contact us. Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. Therefore, there are some things that we would like you to help us with: • if you SEE something, SAY something. • If you need us but can’t find us? Then we are no more than a radio call away. You canalways get in touch with us through the Info desk. • Respect the given rules at the convention. • Remember food and stay hydrated. • Help each other. • Stay hydrated. We cannot stress this enough: guests often fall ill due to lack of hydration or proper nutrition. So please remember to drink plenty of water and eat regularly every day. And remember: We are here for your sake. We hope that you will have a fantastic Genki.

(Based on the ”Pokémon Theme” (also known as ”Gotta Catch ’Em All”); a song written by John Siegler and John Loeffler and performed by Jason Paige.)

Convention rules Everyone is welcome at Genki. We want people to get along and have a nice experience at the convention. To achieve this, please act according to the following rules: All rules must be followed when applicable, i.e. photo rules, press rules, rules for the expo hall, weapon rules, and “Free hugs” rules. Instructions and guidelines stated, either visually or vocally by staff and security, must be followed at all times. While on convention grounds, consuming or being affected by any intoxicating drugs/substances is prohibited.. Exceptions may be applicable to certain events when stated with visible information upon entering the particular event. The exception is only valid during that particular event. Smoking is permitted, but only in designated areas. General noise levels should be kept within reasonable limits. When queues form at the entrances of events, keep order and be considerate to your fellow guests. Do not, in any way, block corridors, pathways, or any other place where movement is crucial. In addition to the Rules stated above all attendees at Genki must abide by the Danish National laws. Breaking any of these rules will, depending on severity, result in a warning or in a ban from the rest of the convention. Several warnings can also trigger a ban, as well as being reported to the police, if laws have been broken. Wristbands Guests without a valid wristband will only have access to the designated free areas. Make sure to always wear your wristband and show it when asked by staff. A fee will be charged when replacing a lost or damaged wristband. Replacement wristbands can only be issued in the Check-in area and you must present a valid ID and ticket. Photography By attending Genki, the participants give implicit consent for Genki and The Reactor ApS - the company behind Genki - to use any and all photo and video footage taken of the participants, by official Genki photographers, for any sort of commercial and/or non-commercial purposes. Example of such purposes are: • Advertisements • Website galleries • Online material • Presentations If a person does not wish for their likeness to be used, they can either tell the photographer, whom must delete the photo immediately, or contact Genki directly. See more detailed rules at Genki.dk

9

Rules of conduct We take pride in Genki being a safe and fun place, where everybody is welcome and anyone can be free to express themselves without harassment of any kind.

To emphasize this, we have revised our convention policies. Furthermore, we have made it easier to report instances of harassing or similar behavior.

If you are being harassed or are in any way endangered, it is very important that you report it immediately. We simply cannot address situation we are not made aware of.

When reporting unlawful or unacceptable behaviour, we need any details that can be provided such as names, appearances or other descriptive information.

To clarify, the following behaviors are not allowed at Genki: •

Disruptive or unsafe behavior that disturbs attendees, volunteers, guests, or exhibitors.

Sleeping in the main convention areas.

Physical or verbal harassment of volunteers, guests, exhibitors, or other attendees.

Destruction or defacement of the Convention Center.

Sexual misconduct such as indecent exposure, offensive touching, or sexual harassment.

Unwanted touching without permission such as glomping, hugging, etc.

Remember: Cosplay is not consent. Keep your hands to yourself. If you would like to take a picture with or of another Genki Attendee, ask first and respect that person’s right to say no. When attending Genki, be respectful, be nice, be cool and be kind to each other.

These rules apply to all, regardless of them being volunteers, guests, performers, exhibitors, staff and other attendees.

General Info In Case of Emergency In case of a fire or other emergencies, please remain calm and move towards the nearest exit. Follow the instructions given by our staff, and assemble next to the baseball court. Stay off the road because it the way emergency vehicles will arrive. Top 4 things to remember: Behave towards others as you want others to behave towards you. You are not as invincible as the character you may be cosplaying. Drink plenty of liquids. Don’t forget to get some (real) food. Lost and Found Have you lost something during Genki? Contact the Info Desk. Remember to describe the lost item’s appearance and contents. Likewise, if you find a lost item, please hand it in at the Info Desk. If the convention has concluded and/or you have left the convention grounds, you can Direct your requests to lost@genki.dk. Due to the closure of Genki, the last possible inquiry is on 18/08/2019. Event schedule The full schedule is available at tiny.cc/Genkievents

Pool Time There’s free access for Genki’s guests, who have purchased Friday or weekend tickets. The Aquatic Centre’s own changing rooms & showers are used for gentlemen and ladies. A private changing room & shower for transgenders has been made available by CityFys Wellness - the entrance for this is still through the Aquatic Centre’s ”kiosk”, but then immediately up the stairs to the right (signage will be present). One of the pools (Gryden) is suitable for people with disabilities to swim in. The Aquatic Centre is split into to sections, each with a set of pools; photoshoots are only permitted in one of the two sections. Photoshoots are permitted from 18:00-20:00; BOTH sections will be photo-free af these hours. To avoid water- and humidity damages, we suggest using a waterproof camera, e.g. GoPro Hero 5 or later, or that you ensure that your camera is classified as ”Weather Proof/Sealed.” After Pool Time shuts down, there will be an additional 30 minutes to shower and get dressed (22:00-22:30). For Photographers • Photographic equipment may not pass through the dressing rooms, so all photographers must enter through a separate entrance. • Taking photos in the photo-free area is strictly forbidden and will result in all photos being deleted and immediate expulsion. • In the photo-permitted area, photographers must follow our general rules for photography følges. • Any and all photo equipment brought into the pool area is on your own responsibility - Genki is not responsible for equipment that breaks as a result of water damage, humidity, or any other reason.

CHARGER SERVICE At the Info Desk you can charge your mobile phones, digital cameras and other electronic devices (up to 15 W ) for a 5 DKK fee. Please note that we only have basic USB chargers, so if you device uses a special charger, supply that as well. We know the importance of a charged phone at a convention (like saving important digits from new friends, getting a selfie with all the Deadpools and calling your family to tell that you love them), which is why we are offering this service. Devices left for charging and not claimed by Sunday at 18:00 will be handed over to Lost & Found.

Q&A With Genki staff Genki has for many years been a special place for a lot of people, and among them also its volunteers. On the occasion of Genki unfortunately closing as a convention, Genki asked the team leaders, who make each year run as smoothly as possible, a series of questions and here are a selection of their responses. You can find them and more on our website in both Danish and English. Q: What has a highlight for you been in your time as a volunteer for Genki? Jill, Part of Genki’s management/leadership since the beginning: “One year at Pizza time I received a round of applause from the other volunteers. It meant so much to me, and I had some difficulty with all the attention. Recognition from the others was a highlight for me, and I hope I managed to give some praise along with recognition back to the other volunteers’ work for their effort at Genki.” Mads, Team leader for Genki’s Check-In for many years: “The highlight for me as a volunteer during my time with Genki is the joy of seeing how happy our guests are whenever they come and get their wrist tickets, along with meeting friends from near and far with whom they might only see at conventions. It is contagious, and drives me to keep on being a volunteer. Aside from that I have had the pleasure of working with some volunteers for several years, who have later gone and become friends that I will have for many years to come.” Q: What will you remember Genki best for? Andreas, Team leader for Gameroom for several years: “That is hard. Genki haha. If I really have to pinpoint a time, then it would be the setup, where we blast bad music, dance and enjoy ourselves while we prepare for a storm of a weekend!” Mads: “I will remember Genki for the cozy tone that exists between the volunteers and our guests, along with the cozy atmosphere that we create for our guests.” Jill: “The unity and the feeling of the world that we create from we open the doors until we close. The friendships I have made with some fantastic people.” We also had the chance to ask Head Organiser Victor about the future of Genki: “The convention itself is going to be closing down, which everyone is probably familiar with by now. However, I have decided that the brand should live on, and that it will place greater emphasis on the community section, which is why there will still be activity on our social media and on our website. How much of it, however, that can be realised, and in what form, I really do not know - Focus here and now is on completing Genki 2019, and then we’ll take things as it comes. Orders pizza and eat together after finishing the clean-up on Sunday” *) Pizza hour: When Genki Staff orders pizzas and eats together after finishing the cleanup Sunday Written by Sebastian Larsen Prehn

Internet explorer ep. 7 by Merryweater

Merryweather I’m Merryweather, and I’ve been writing webcomics for 7 years. Currently I am the writer of 8 weekly comics for WEBTOON in collaboration with 8 different artists. My stories are mainly built to be easily shareable online. My style would be a hybrid of GARFIELD type sunday newspaper comics, Manga, and Korean Manhwa which are built for smartphones. I normally live in Japan, but I decided to take a year in Denmark to be with family, which allowed me to visit Genki! Where can people follow your work/you? I’m on Twitter @Merryweatherey and Instagram @merryweather.comics. Other than that I can be found on WEBTOON under Merryweatherey. How did you start writing scripts for webcomics? I always wanted to write novels, but nobody wants to read novels. At least not rookie level novels, since most of the time people see it as a bother or a favor to read something you write, rather than genuinely enjoying it. So instead I decided I wanted to write comics, because people do seem to enjoy reading comics. I actually decided to write comics one day during Genki many years ago. Must have been 2013. What inspires you to write your stories? I get inspiration from pretty much anywhere. I like to take inspiration from movies, TV shows, novels, comics, and generally artwork. There’s already so many things out there, it’s easy to take familiar concepts and combine them in new ways. What is your favourite genre to write? Probably comedy. I like writing short comics that are just a few panels long, which tend to lend itself best to comedy. I also think that is the sort of comic that is most popular these days. Short comics that can be shared on social media easily. How is to work in the webcomic industry? It’s pretty liberating, I would say. There’s a big demand for easy to consume, free comics that can be read on a smartphone, so it’s really just a matter of putting out things with decent quality. My situation is a little different of course, since I’m not an artist myself, and more of a writer/producer, working with lots of different artists. What is a typical work day for you? A typical work day mainly consists of managing artist schedules, upload dates, and promoting comics. I really only write about once or twice a month, and the session usually lasts anywhere from a few hours to about 8-10 hours, but by the end of that I have a lot of scripts to last for a whil What is some advice you would pass on to others? Start small. Try to make short stories that start and end in the same script. You learn far more from that, than long, drawn-out stories that take several chapters to conclude. You have to learn how to end a story before you can learn how to make a story good. You work with a lot of different artists, how do you meet/start working with them? Nowadays they’re all people I’ve known for years through networking and mutual contacts, but the way I met artists originally was just by writing to as many as I could until someone would hear me out. These days there’s plenty of money, and I know plenty of artists, so searching for new ones isn’t really something I have to worry about anymore. I used to meet a lot of them on DeviantArt and Facebook. What can we expect from you in the future? I’ve started promoting myself a lot heavier through social media, and trying to build my online presence as much as I can, through short comics about popular memes. And on the other hand, I’m also putting a lot more effort into creating longer, more narrative based comics, such as ’Everywhere & Nowhere’ which is my new featured comic on WEBTOON. What can Genki guests look forward to from you at Genki this year? I’m doing two panels about webcomics! One is a comprehensive guide on how to get started on webcomics, and the other is a brief history of webcomics. I’ll also be selling a few of my comics at the Artist Alley.

CaptainGhostly Cosplay Age: 24 Country: Belgium Cosplay Experience: Cosplayer for 5 years, guested at 30+ conventions around Europe, Judged the CWM international contest final in 2019. What’s your favorite cosplay you have ever made, and what discipline of cosplay (wigs, craft, sewing, bodypaint etc.) is your favorite? Ornstein (Dark Souls) by far! That costume was quite the challenge, but it taught me so much. Without it, I wouldn’t be where I am now. My favorite discipline of cosplay is crafting with a big range of different techniques and materials such as EVA foam, molding & casting, 3D printing, etc. I am trying my hardest to improve in other disciplines though! What’s do you focus on as a judge? That depends a bit on the contest, convention rules and costumes of course. But in general I focus on a loooot of things. Most commonly there are 2 big aspects: 1) Costume * How clean is the costume? * Is the costume the correct proportion? (A lot of people forget this part!) * What techniques are used? * How much does the cosplay resemble the reference? 2) Act / Performance * How unique is the act? * How is the stage presence? * If there is any mistake, how did they react? * How smooth does everything go? What’s your best experience in cosplay? When I give a workshop or explain something online to people and then a long time later they message me and show their awesome cosplay they made with the information I gave them!! That’s the best feeling in the world, to help and motivate people. What do you look forward to experience in Denmark and at Genki 2019? The people and community actually! I want to meet, hang out and talk to as many as possible. I want to see how cosplay is in Denmark and what the cosplayers create. I want to hear their stories and feel how they created their costumes. I am also exited for quite a few unique things that I heard Genki has (like a swimming pool!!!). I am sure the contest will be a blast as well!

I joined the German Cosplay Championship (DCM) in 2015 and 2018 and was few times a Judge since 2013. First ECG was 2014 and I want to join next year again in the Category SOLO. What’s your favorite cosplay you have ever made, and what discipline of cosplay (wigs, craft, sewing, bodypaint etc.) is your favorite? A single Cosplay isn’t easy to pick just now. There are few of them. Thanks to my big love to Critical Role I’m in love with my two new costumes. But also one of my Favorites are Regina from Once Upon a Time, Snowwhite from a Sakizo Artbook, Absinthfairy, Captain Hook and Cardcaptor Sakura. The most of them show the one and only true Thing, which send me every single time in Heaven and Hell, when I do it: Embroidery. I’m still in Love with it, no matter if its per machine or by hand. I never can get over detailed work. What’s do you focus on as a judge? I have a system during the judge (since Germany is taking care on craft and detail): Does the costume result match the person and their experience? How wellmade and clean is it or is there a highlight? Does costume fit with the performance? What feelings do I have when I see the complete work? What’s your best experience in cosplay? Of course, every scene has its downsides and black sheep, but I’m still surprised today how easy it is to meet new people. I am with my arms and legs into different scenes and so far there are only 3 who receive and accept someone. The cosplay scene especially shows me in competitive situations that it is fun and not a life-and-death game (or do I only see it that way?). That people helps or supports each other. What do you look forward to experience in Denmark and at Genki 2019? I love traveling and getting to know new cultures. For years I would like to travel to Denmark and this adventure gives me the chance to explore not only the country, but especially the cosplay scene. I’m happy to make new friends, but also to see old friends again.

What’s your favorite cosplay you have ever made, and what discipline of cosplay (wigs, craft, sewing, bodypaint etc.) is your favorite? I have so many costumes that are my favourites! But if i had to pick then it would be either my Brunhilde from Zangeki no Reginliev or Mercy from Overwatch. Both costumes were huge technical challenges and they gave me so much joy when Ive finished them. My favourite type of costume consists of armor, props and wings! EVA foam is definietly my most used type of material as its cheap and so easy to transform into anything. I am also fascinated by wig styling and try to improve my skills in this field! What’s do you focus on as a judge? I usually concetrate at technical side of costumes and love to know all the techniques and materials that contestans use while making the outfit. I was also told that Im good at making contestants calmer during the jury round so my focus is also nice chat with you guys! :) What’s your best experience in cosplay? As much as I enjoy making huge costumes and taking part in contests, I also love meeting new people! International convetions are my favourite part of being a cosplayer as I can talk with so many talented people from all over the world. It broadens my view at cosplay and i keep learning new things from you all. Best expierences always come from interactions with other cosplayers. What do you look forward to experience in Denmark and at Genki 2019? Definietly cosplay contest and time at my artist booth! I think that cosplayers from Denmark have such an amazing level of costumes so contest should be just so fun to watch. I also love my time at the booth since i can chat with you all! Please come visit me, i would love to meet everyone :)

18+ Lounge Have you ever thought to yourself after a long day of being at the convention: ”Man... I could really go for an ice cold beer with a couple of my mates right about now”? Or possibly even ”A silky smooth cider and some card games would be the perfect way to end today”? Then come on up to the 3rd floor as Genki by Night transforms the maid café into an 18+ Lounge. At the 18+ Lounge, we screen for ID - underaged drinking is bad, m’kay? - so be sure to bring your driver’s license or passport. Once inside, you can enjoy ciders sweeter than nectar* and beers colder than your ex’s heart* all while participating in fun activities with a more adu... matur... with a crowd old enough to legally drink. * Heavily exaggerated, but they are fairly cold and sweet

Rules The 18+ Lounge will be serving cold refreshments with or without alcohol. One must be of legal drinking age (18+) to enter. You must provide a valid ID with picture, e.g. driver’s license. We ask our guests not to take alcoholic drinks with them outside the 18+ Lounge area, and due to regulations, only one alcoholic/energy drink can be had at a time. Staff will refuse serving customers if we believe they have had more than they can handle. Purchasing an alcoholic beverage for a minor is a crime, and you risk losing both wristband and future access to the convention. We trust our guests to treat the 18+ Lounge privilege with respect, but if anyone should fail to do so, contact the Security staff.

Thank you all! This year is Genki’s Jubilee and the 11th time we host the event. From around 211 guest and 30 volunteers in our early years, all the way to our 2000+ guests and 200+ volunteers. It has been a fantastic adventure. But none of this would have succeded without all of you! Together, we have created Genki what it is. The spirit of Genki and that special mood that rises every year is a magical thing we all create together. And this will not disappear even though Genki is no longer held. We have truely become a community and our love for the culture exists beyond the limits of Genki. This is just a chapter ending, it can be a start shot for new adventures for all of us. A large applause for all the super volunteers who have helped bring Genki to its fullest every year. It has been an honour to stand shoulder to shoulder with everyone in Genki. It has been it amazing, and miracles have truely been pulled off. It has been absolutely inspiring to see the dedication and courage that the volunteers bring to the table. Genki would never have happened year after year without you and your work. THANK YOU! Xoxo Jill Editor and Genki organizer

Alas, the Genki Convention has reached the end of the road. But the dream is to continue to post and share the great things, events, eateries and enthusiasts who are around this community. Genki will continue in digital form and our desire is that the community can continue. Keep an eye on post from Genki in the future. We may be looking to help with a post, share a story or a competition to participate in.

Expo Hall This year the Artist Alley and Dealer Hall are separate and on different floors, but you will still be able to find your heart’s desire, whether it be Japanese snacks, manga, anime, merchandise or commissioned art of your favourite characters. Dealer Hall is located on the ground level in the DGI-byen. Which is possible to get to by going up to 1 floor in DGI conference and through the doors into DGI-byen. Artist Alley is in the basement level you can get to by going down the stairs, opposite Main Stage on the ground floor of DGI-byen, and after going to the right, and right around the corner. Then Artist Alley comes on the left side. Follow the signs showing the way. See the map on page 5-6, for more guidance on how to get there. Our Dealer hall and Artist Alley will be exclusive for Genki guests Friday. It means our guests will have first choice of all the goods found in the Dealer Hall and Artist Alley. Because on Saturday and Sunday, Genki’s Dealer hall and Artist Alley will be open the public. Be aware there is a limit to how many guests may be in the locations and it may happen that times are queued to enter. We apologize for the inconvenience but because it is to follow safety requirements. We ask that you armed yourselves with patience and perhaps plan your trip in low periods.

Borgere i Genki!
