INTRODUCTION

Welcome

We are delighted to be supporting your Babcock Apprentice Development Programme. Throughout 2024/25 we will be running a series of high energy interactive face to face and online Boost Masterclasses that will support your wider development. Our goal is to support you to stay healthy, happy and be able to perform to a high level both in and outside of the workplace. The performance and wellbeing tools and techniques that we will teach you will equip you to take on challenges ahead of you, both during your programme and beyond.

We will be providing you with content and development that we feel is most relevant at each stage of your Early Careers journey.

OUR EXPERT DELIVERY TEAM

Dean Coulson

Alex La Via

Dean is a leading authority on wellbeing and performance having written the book “Thrive” and run his own health business Phoenix Performance Training. He is a recognised speaker and coach.

Sam Bishop

Sam Bishop is one of the Uk’s leading performance psychologists. Sam works with elite sports men and women as well as top businessmen and women to help them achieve peak performance in their roles.

George Anderson

Mike has worked for nearly two decades in early careers at Barclays and more latterly through his Gen Healthy Minds business working with businesses to deliver wellbeing and performance programmes that support business growth.

George is an international wellbeing speaker, coach and author who has worked with individuals and corporates for over 20 years. He has designed and delivered wellbeing courses, bootcamps and written books on the topic

Below is an overview of your Boost Programme designed to support you to flourish and perform at your best. As you can see, the programme will run throughout 2024/25 with more details of times of each session later in this brochure. Masterclasses will be delivered either face to face (shown in blue) or online (shown in yellow) and presented by wellbeing and performance experts George Anderson and Sam Bishop.

October 2024 face to face event

Our “Boost your mental and physical wellbeing” masterclass will help participants boost their mental wellbeing every day

• Learn about positive psychology and positive psychology techniques and how these can boost wellbeing every day

• Gain practical skills and tools to boost wellbeing including practicing gratitude, check ins and mindfulness to help you to Flourish at work

• Gain practical skills to improve diet, activity levels, sleep and hydration

• Understand the links between physical and mental health

• Explore how to manage your energy levels and plan your days so you can perform at your best

November 2024 Online Masterclass

Our “Boost your strengths and personal impact” masterclass will use the ‘viacharacter strengths finder’ questionnaire to explore participants strengths and how to use them to become more effective at work and in their personal lives

• Learn why playing to your strengths is more important than improving your weaknesses.

• Take the online test and learn your top 5 signature strengths

• Create an action plan for how you can use these strengths more frequently

March 2025 Online Masterclass

Our “Boost your performance – confidence and motivation” masterclass looks at how we can overcome mental barriers that stop us performing at our best such as low motivation and low confidence.

• Explore the different barriers to performance and why they occur

• Umderstand where motivation and confidence come from and why they are so fluid.

• Learn tools and techniques to boost confidence and motivation every day

February 2025 face to face event

Our “Boost your performance – create and deliver high performance goals ” masterclass will help participants to understand how to achieve peak performance on a day to day basis

• Learn about how to set powerful goals and put in place plans to achieve them

• Build the mindset and behaviours to achieve your goals

• Put in place daily practices and routines to track your performance

• Look at how to effectively manage our thoughts and emotions to lead to higher performance

• Learn how to manage stress and use it to elevate your performance

• Explore how to become a more resilient version of yourself

May 2025 online event

Our “Boost your communication skills” masterclass helps participants to build the confidence to present their ideas in a powerful high impact way.

• How to build a “story arc” to get your ideas across.

• Key strategies for delivering with impact.

• How to overcome nerves and deliver with passion

• This session will allow participants to deliver in a safe environment and gain feedback from George and each other

July 2025 Online Masterclass

Our “Boost your performance – you are not a machine” masterclass will introduce participants to performance psychology and how it can be used in their daily lives.

• We will share interesting case studies of top class athletes and business leaders to bring concepts to life in an interesting and engaging way.

• Explore the “human performance curve”

• Look at how to effectively manage our thoughts and emotions can lead to higher performance

Residential Week – August 2025

An exciting part of your programme will be a week-long residential event when you will join other apprentices from across Babcock to explore the Babcock Purpose and Principles in a fun and hands-on way.

The week will take place at the magnificent Skern Lodge Activity Centre and will involve a range of challenging but fun activities designed to help you grow and develop as an individual and boost your team working skills.

You will benefit from a superb learning environment and facilities that are second to none. Along with great accommodation, the centre has plenty of meeting rooms, classrooms and social areas.

Drying rooms are provided for each accommodation area and there is plenty of outdoor space to relax or walk around within. Wi-Fi is available within most areas of the site.Added to all this, a heated outdoor swimming pool completes the complex.

SKERN LODGE

You will love our modern facilities set in stunning surroundings where you will be inspired to learn and develop yourself.

SKERN LODGE is located on the North Devon coast, near Appledore on the shores of the Taw and Torridge estuary. Situated on the site of the old Watertown Farm, the buildings have been developed and added to, incorporating the original 1705 stonework into the purpose-built residential facilities.

MEASURING YOUR SUCCESS

The PERMAH wellbeing survey is a recognised tool to assess your wellbeing and engagement and will look at how it can be improved during your apprentice journey. The survey (which we recommend is completed at the start and end of the programme) shows how you score against the 6 areas of wellbeing within the PERMAH model namely;

1. Positive emotions – how happy you are

2. Engagement with the organisation

3. Relationships at work

4. Meaning – how meaningful you find their work

5. Accomplishment - how much they feel you work is valued

6. Health – how well you manage their physical health

Your workplace report will allow you to look at what is working well, where you are struggling and what you are learning throughout your journey and help you to be the best you can be and succeed.

WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?

•We are all individuals and think and act in different ways so each person going through this programme will take different things from it. The key is that you make it work for you and find the tools and knowledge you can take forward into your career:

•We therefore ask that you :

• Are open-minded to new concepts and ideas

• Are willing to give things a go and stick with them (after all it takes 21 days to form a habit!)

• Use the tools we provide you with – we know they work!

• Record your journey– we will be providing you with a journal. Please make sure you bring this to each session

• Actively participate, be inquisitive and make the most of the experts while you can

• Please ensure you are visibly on camera during online sessions

• The more you participate the more you will gain from each session
