Re: “he is having an Affair” (July/Aug)

Dear Reader,

It’s my pleasure writing to you once again. I’ve received quite a number of complaints and disturbing comments about my counsel to the distressed wife who wrote in our July/August edition about her unfaithful husband. Unfortunately, all the reports came in verbally and as such none could be printed. The counsel given was based on my spiritual understanding and personal convictions as no man is solely a fountain of wisdom. Besides, the good book (The Bible) teaches that there is safety in a multitude of counsel; I therefore invite our readers, especially those who called in with alternative counsels, to please write in, so everybody could benefit from their wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience. Let’s share the gems!

Hope to read from you soonest. Till then, remain dovetailed with His Spirit.

I Feel Miserable

Aunty KK, I feel like everyone is passing me by. My career is nothing to write home about. My marriage is just okay, yet, I don’t feel like going on. I know what the Bible says, but I still feel miserable.

My dear sister,

Life is in Phases, and we all go through dark seasons of it. I’m sure that many people can empathize with you in this situation because they’ve also been through it, at one time or another. So, you are not alone; many are in the same shoes with you, even right now. I would like to share the gem I gleaned the last time I went down that road. The Lord told me that those are the seasons of my life when he always has the opportunity to truly have His way! Can you beat that? “Those seasons of apathy; the periods I go on routinely like an automated robot? It’s impossible!” I argued with the Lord. Then He, in His usual gentle manner, reminded me that those low and dark seasons of life are the times He has no struggles with the affairs of my life because they are the seasons I consciously let go and let Him. I was thrilled when I realized that those are the seasons He always truly carries me. This, we can liken to the popular ‘footprints’ story of the weary traveler who after complaining of being rejected by God in his trying periods, soon realised that the only set of footprints on his dark path of life were God’s, who was busy carrying him. whenever those low seasons come, I reexamine myself to check for past sins, and confirm if I’m still in the faith. Then I encourage myself in the Lord.

There is no controversy. The entrance of His words gives light and understanding to the simple. Subsequently, whenever those low seasons come, I re-examine myself to check for past sins, and confirm if I’m still in the faith. Then I encourage myself in the Lord, and muster enough energy to give myself a treat at the salon- to look good- even if I do not feel great. For His intimacy with us in our trying periods, this great God is worth celebrating always, especially this season.

These have worked for me. However, peradventure the problem is more than I envisaged, do seek help from another counselor. I wish you the best in life. Aunty KK

self-medication. Self-medication is a form of drug abuse! Street drugs are particularly hazardous to health, as they are mind-altering.

The truth of the matter is that our health destiny is a joint venture between God and us. We obviously have our parts to play in the health equation. To think that everything solely depends on God would be presumptuous on our part. God made it abundantly clear to Adam and Eve right from the word go that it is important to be disciplined and to avoid certain foods if they truly wanted to live long on God’s earth. There was a particular tree in the Garden of Eden whose fruits Adam and Eve were not supposed to touch. They ate the fruit thereof to their own detriment. It is imperative for us too to know that there are things we must abstain from (not for gaining spirituality, but for the sake of our health).

Our food choices should not be based primarily on TASTE, but on NUTRITIONAL VALUE and PURITY. Taste is important if we must enjoy our meals and drinks, but still, taste is not the primary consideration when longterm health is our goal. The inability to abstain from what is obviously injurious to health is a mark of indiscipline and lack of self-control.

Let us narrow down to food choices during this Christmas season. Christmas, we all know, is all about Jesus Christ and the redemption He brought to humanity. One way or another, many have lost sight of the true meaning of Christmas and have reduced it to a time of merry making - eating, drinking, and dancing. Of course, what Jesus did for us on the cross of Calvary calls for celebration. We however, need to be moderate and balanced as we go about our celebrations. Gluttony is the first thing we must watch out for. Over-eating is not only injurious to our health, from a Biblical point of view also a sin. Too much of even a good thing can make it harmful. So, let’s take it easy during this season.

I am aware that NOT everyone would agree with my submissions. Personally, I am always guided by one principle in life: I’d rather err on the side of safety. I would rather avoid any item that has a controversy raging on it. I believe that if a person is able to avoid the things that are destroying his health then, he has solved his health problems by more than 50%.

May God grant you grace to stop consuming things that may be contributing to your health challenges. May you begin to love the foods that

Our food choices should not be based primarily on taste, but on nutritional value and purity.

Freedom of expression continued from page 67

western media use repetitive emotive language and images to create affinity to a notion that is otherwise regarded as dark, ugly and sinister. The image of harmless looking, attractive teenagers as witches/ wizards glamorises, trivialises and even debunks the evil nature of witchcraft and occultism. It has also drawn a huge interest from young teenagers who see occultism as a sort of teenage fad.

The concept of freedom of expression is a good way to broaden our horizons, increase our knowledge and learn new things. It also leaves us in no doubt of its importance in the preservation of democracy and the rule of law both of which are essential to healthy government. We must however not get too caught up the concept of freedom of

speech, or thought in the social arena, otherwise known as the market place of ideas. We are a developing nation and a large percentage of our population; particularly the youth are vulnerable because their critical reasoning skills are at its formative stages. These segments of our society definitely need to be chaperoned through the wade of cleverly edited materials that are being thrown at them.

We must also remember that freedom is really the bondage of mankind. It is a dangerously slippery slope and one must always have a harness to keep the balance between freedom and respect for others; freewill and submission to a higher order.
