7 Keys To a More Prayerful Life in 2021

Ronke Adeoti

Prayer is an essential part of our lives as Christians; hence, we need to know how to watch and pray especially because of the happenings in the world now, we ought to pray for guidance and seek God’s help and presence to go with us on this journey. I love an adage which says “he that asks for direction will not lose his way.” We need God’s help and support if we want this year to be a year with a difference for us. So, what are some of the keys to a more prayerful life in 2021?

1. Pray the word: God’s words to us are His promises; but you can’t lay claim or possess what you don’t know or have access to. To be more prayerful this year, take time to know the one to whom you are praying to – through His word. Praying helps us birth the word or promises of God to us; To experience a new dimension of prayer power this year, look out for scriptures you can lay hold on to bring as strong reasons before the throne of mercy Isa 41:21. God honors his word not quotes or poems; the bible says’’ bring forth your strong reasons…” you reason with God through his words. Do you want to know God’s will about that matter? His will is in his words; so, search his will out and place it before him in the place of prayer. There’s no situation in life that you will not find in his word.

2. Praying in the Spirit: what a treasure we have in the Holy Spirit, some Christians don’t seem to know the benefit of praying in tongues.

Praying in tongues is a sure way of praying the perfect will of God because the Holy Spirit is giving you utterance. Acts 2:3-4. Praying in the Spirit enables you to pray for the unknown and also pray for the wisdom of God. When a believer is baptized in the Holy Spirit, one of the evidences of the baptism is the gift of praying in tongues.

Praying in tongues can be likened to a hot meal, flies and insects would not dare come close but when the meal is lukewarm, all manner of flies and insects would be seen around it. So, I dare you to set yourself on fire in the Holy Spirit and people will watch you burn.

3. Speak faith filled words: Your mouth is your weapon of victory Pro.12:6,14:3,18:21 and deliverance. Whatever you have said in the

place of prayer, don’t cancel them by your utterances. Words are powerful weapons which are potent not just in the realm of the spirit, but also in the physical realm. In 1sam.17:23 Goliath was instilling fear into the heart of God’s army; but David would not take that from the uncircumcised philistine. In this story, I see a battle of words. Before the real fight, David had killed him with the words of his mouth, that is, before he cut off his head physically. I challenge you to “Never keep quiet” this year. Job 22:28 begin to decree things on your knees child of God; speak out your desires; decree faith-filled words, don’t allow the devil silence you.

How to speak faith-filled words? z Speak the word of God not the word of man: Heb. 4:12, God’s words changes your world, situation, circumstances z Use your words to speak about solutions, i.e. life not death or problems. z Speak your desire not what you are going through; speak revelation or insight not doubt. z Speak according to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. z Speak in his name. Phil. 2:9-11. Your words are essential in every spiritual warfare. z Speak against every contrary thoughts and imaginations. Every challenge has a name and they all have ears, speak to them. Zech. 4:7

4.Recognize that He lives in you:

Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world 1Jn 4:4; do you know you have God in you, with you, on you and all over you? When we come to this realization, then the devil will not or will stop messing around with us. Dan. 11:32- “they that know their God shall be strong.” Do you know God? I am not talking about knowing about him, but do you know him for yourself? Do you know what he is capable of doing? Are you even aware of what or who is on your inside? Declare to yourself – I AM TOO LOADED (to fail, to be subdued, to be oppressed, to be conquered etc). Do you know God has equipped you with everything you need in this life? Eph. 6:10-18. What you carry is sophisticated 2cor.

One thing that you cannot do without this year is not having God in your boat.

10:4- the bible says what you carry is mighty through God; you are armed and dangerous. 1sam.17:34-49; Acts 27:24-25. David knew who he was and whose he was. Jesus lives in you. Therefore, you should not live like someone that has no hope; his name is a force that registers in three (3) worlds Phil. 2:4-8; 1sam 17:45-49; Ps.82:5. I once had an encounter with the spirit of infirmity about twenty five years back while taking care of my mum in an hospital; all I could mutter was Jesus and it disappeared. That name registers in heaven, on earth, and underneath the earth. We all have access to that name, let us use it to our advantage as we go into this new year.

5. Develop a living relationship with

God and walk in the reality of his presence: Amos 3:3 says “can two walk together except they be agreed? One thing that you cannot do without this year is not having

God in your boat.
